Hey y'all! Words will not even be able to express my apologies for not updating in so long. I've been really stressed with school and college applications and other stuff. I haven't even been able to read all of the other great stories I know are out there. Just so you all know, I will never quit writing this story. Thank you for such positive responses to the first two chapters! I do not own Criminal Minds or any of the beast characters that exist within the show.
After the lights had gone out, murmurs dispersed throughout the ballroom of FBI agents. The worry Morgan had been feeling when he couldn't find Reid only deepened.
"Everybody, remain calm!" the FBI director yelled, trying to prevent anyone from panicking.
"We need to get out of here, now!" Morgan whispered desperately to his teammates, "Reid suddenly disappears as the lights go out. This can't be a coincidence."
He barely saw the outline of whom he assumed was Hotch nod his head. The team held hands and tried to navigate through the crowd shrouded in darkness.
"Please, nobody move!" the FBI director yelled, wanting to maintain some form of order.
Annoyed, the team stood where they were. Morgan was worried sick about his little brother. Hotch and Rossi tried to remain calm, but uneasy feelings were growing inside them. Prentiss was tapping her foot impatiently, just waiting for the chance to run and find her teammate. Garcia was barely able to keep herself from panicking. JJ was the most worried of all of them, except maybe Morgan. Part of her thought that Reid could be fine, but the more realistic part of her told her that something had happened to the man she named her son's godfather.
"Where are you, Reid?" she whispered to herself, burying her face in her hands.
"Somewhere you will never find him," a horrifyingly familiar voice whispered in her ear.
"Kevin!" she shrieked.
A dark chuckle retreated back into the sea of confused FBI agents. JJ began hyperventilating and the team surrounded her to try and calm her down.
"JJ, what happened?" Hotch asked.
"Kevin," she gasped, "Kevin was standing right behind me."
"JJ, Kevin couldn't be here. He's dead," Prentiss reminded as softly as she could.
"No, Emily, he was here. He said that Reid was somewhere where we will never find him!"
The rest of the agents were obviously concerned with the team's odd behavior, not understanding the horror the team knew was unfolding. The high pitched ringing of a microphone resounded through the dark ballroom, causing the agents to cover their ears.
"Time's up," announced a demonic voice.
A bomb exploded from underneath the stage. Horrified screams filled the ballroom as the agents made a beeline for any exit they could find. Luckily, the team was near the entrance of the ballroom, so they were quickly able to escape into the foyer and out of the hotel. Several FBI agents followed their lead. They had just made it out when the Renaissance Hotel began to crumble before their eyes.
Reid began to regain consciousness in the back of the suburban. His eyes fluttered open and he met Ogden's concerned gaze. That's when he realized his head was resting in Ogden's lap. His eyes widened and he tried to push himself up, but he found that his hands had been cuffed behind his back. He was going to do anything to get away from the person who helped possibly kill his team. Ogden tried to hold him down to keep him still. He tried to protest at her touch, but a strip of duct tape over his mouth muffled his words. Ogden held a finger to her lips.
"Close your eyes," she mouthed at him.
Warily, Reid did as he was told.
"Is he awake, Ogden?" Strauss asked from the driver's seat, peering into the rearview mirror, "I thought I heard noises."
"No, he's still unconscious. My leg just fell asleep," Ogden said, praying Strauss would buy her lie.
"Very well, then. Just remember to knock him back out when he awakes."
Reid opened his eyes back up and stared at Ogden in confusion. Why would she lie to Strauss? He thought to himself. His thoughts began to wander back to his team. He had to remember that they might be alive, but there was the very same possibility that they could be dead. To keep his mind in his current situation, he looked around the vehicle. Strauss was in the driver's seat and Simmons in the passenger's seat. There was actually no backseat in the suburban, that's how he was able to lie down completely. He also noticed that Ogden kept a tool chest close by her side. He was brought out of his thoughts when a cell phone rang.
"What happened, Jones?" Simmons asked.
Reid concluded that Jones stayed behind to observe the chaos.
"Okay, call back if you hear anything else," Jones responded to an unknown comment from the other end of the conversation. He turned to Strauss. "Hotchner's team made it out alive."
Reid sighed deeply and closed his eyes in relief.
"How fortunate," Strauss said sarcastically, "Reid can't know they all made it out alive, he will never cooperate if they are all dead."
Reid realized the reason Ogden didn't want Strauss to know that he was awake yet, so he could find out what happened to his team. He opened his eyes again and looked at Ogden, trying to figure out why she would do that for him. Unfortunately, Strauss noticed him opening his eyes this time.
"He's awake, knock him out!" she ordered.
"Yes, ma'am," Ogden responded.
Reid could see the reluctance in her eyes as she reached into the tool chest and pulled out a cloth. Out of reflex, he tried to turn his head away, but to no avail. She held the cloth over his nose and gagged mouth until his eyes began to droop shut. The last thing he could feel was Ogden stroking his hair as consciousness faded away.
I really hope you liked that chapter! Reviews are much appreciated!
