Emily and the team accompanied by the HRT's move through the wilderness of the Parker hunting ground, finding the Cullen family home deep in the wilderness, it still was as much a place of evil to her like the Amityville home.
James found his way to a high ground where a tree was waiting for him. Slowly he pulled up his sniper rifle, opening the scope and pulling down the spiked feet before placing it on one of the branches to the tree. He then pulls out of his pocket an ear piece that he was given before he separated from the group and slides it into his ear.
Looking down the scope of his rifle at the Cullen home, his finger twitching to be doing work like this again for the first time in a long time, and then he hears the voice of Emily through his ear piece "Hey James, are you in position?" she asked.
James then replies "I got your back Raven, I've got you."
Then he hears the voice of agent Riley "Alright Greaves, we're preparing to go in. Now I need you to just provide sniper support and wait outside to keep an eye out while we search the house, once we are done I or one of your friends will call for you to come in."
"Got it." James said, not bothering to make small talk with the Agent like he would have with Prentiss or one of her team mates.
All variables of thoughts and feelings were rushing through his mind as he watched them go into the house, it felt good to be doing this again—not the position of having to kill someone mid you—but the feeling that someone was putting faith in him again to watch their back, he missed it.
Back on the ground Emily stood back with J.J. and the rest of the team as one of the HRT operatives hit the door with the battering ram and broke the door open, it took two swings of the ram to finally knock the door out and off its hinges before it fall hard to the ground.
"FBI!" Morgan shouted as he rushed inside the house ahead of the rest, leading charge into the house. Emily followed behind with J.J. next to her, searching room for room to see if the man in the wheel chair was on sight, but much to her dismay as searched the rooms he was gone and nowhere to be found.
J.J. was the one to find the lower room of the home; she could never have expected to find what she did. A pair of chains hanging from the ceiling with blood stains beneath them on the ground, the bloody knives used were nearby on a small table.
Slowly she starts to put her weapon away and yells for her friends "Guy's, in hear. I think you'll want to see this."
Rossi, Morgan and Hotchner accompanied Emily down the stairs, finding the chains and blood. Emily was horrified by the sight, not as much as the others but horrified still. She could still remember what he looked like after they brought him back up, but this was worse.
It was as they saw this that the team and Emily had a glimpse of what Greaves had gone through, it terrified to just imagine what it must have been like for him.
Riley eventually made his way down stairs as well and said upon seeing the sight "Jesus Christ, who's blood do you think that was?"
"It's James's." Emily said, backing away from the spot. Riley joined her in backing away saying "I'm surprised he could stand to even come back to this place. How does someone keep that calm about this, how does he keep it in?"
"He's a strong person." Emily said. She imagined it took a tole on James to go through this, to suffer that kind of pain and to not talk about it.
Meanwhile back outside where James was still providing sniper watch, he was looking at the house through his scope in the most interesting thing caught his a pair of tracks, they were leading away from the back of the house to a different location.
He had to guess based on his view of the tracks that if the man in the wheel chair had left it had just been recently.
"Hey Greaves you still there?" he heard Riley's voice coming from his ear piece. He then presses on his ear piece and says "Go ahead Riley."
"We searched most of the house, looks like its okay for you to come down now." He said.
Still looking at the tracks James says "Riley, I see a single pair of wheel tracks leaving from the back of the house, looks like the last bloody Minnesota bender left sometime before."
"Good work Greaves; I'll have some of my men check it out. For now I need you to get inside, we need to talk." Riley said.
There was something different in the way he was talking to him now, it was friendlier.
James quickly pulled the sniper rifle off the tree branch and starts to make his way down to the house.
Emily was walking back up the stairs as she heard Riley talking to James, soon after she heard him stop speaking with him she could hear Reid's voice saying "Hey guy's I found the one you called the man in the wheel chair. "
Emily was the first to find the room where Reid was calling out to them from. The body of the man in the wheel chair could be found sitting in front of a desk of the room with a nearby window, the head was bloody, killed by a single gunshot wound to the temple of the head.
The weapon that killed him was still in his hand, a snubbed nosed revolver with five bullets still in the cylinder, she imagined the sixth one was either still in his skull or either in the wall or stuck in one of the books on the shelf case to the man's left side.
The only thing to be found besides the gun with the body in the room was a small book that Reid finds out is actually a journal. Then Emily took notice to a box on the desks side with a small letter folded up with James's name on it, literally.
As Riley examines the body he hears one of his men say "Looks like this one saved us the trouble of a trial and a jail cell." It was then that he noticed how that there was no blood spatter on the gun or the hand that it was in neither was there any on the walls.
"This man did not kill himself, I cannot find any blood on the gun or hand, and look at the walls do you see any blood spatter any where?" Riley said as Reid began to read through the journal.
James eventually found his way into the room that the team was occupying. Emily had expected him to be disappointed, but the dead body of the man in the wheel chair was the least of his concerns or cares, he seemed to be more focused on the room itself.
While the others were looking at him with a sorry look in their eyes, not counting Reid who was reading the journal, remembering the scene of blood and chains, Emily could see the look of déjà vu in his eyes as he examined the room. James himself stared at the features of the room, recognizing it as an exact replica of his grandfather's study in the home he built years before after world war two ended.
James took a confused look to Reid, seeing how he was flying through the pages of the journal and was flabbergasted as he tried to think of the right words before finally asking "Are you really reading all that?"
Reid then replies "I speed read, I can read words at a more advanced pace than most people."
"That is somewhere between creepy and at the same time impressive." James said, feeling the combination of good and bad feelings towards the young genius's abilities, earning a few chuckles from the others.
It was then that he noticed the journal and asks "What's with the book?"
"A journal actually, the man you call the man in the wheel chair, his name is Joseph Cullen. It belongs to him." Reid replied. James instantly took an interest after hearing this and says "Really?"
He then asks "Is there anything in there about my grandfather?"
It was no surprise to Emily to hear him ask that question, she knew that it was something that James wanted, the truth, despite that he may try to put on an outlook of not giving a damn, deep he still wanted to know the truth about his grandfather.
Reid went back to one of the earlier journal entries and stops before saying "Yes, in the early entries Joseph makes a brief reference to his uncle a James Cullen."
"Was there something particular you wanted to know?" Reid then asks.
James then asks "Yeah, how did my grandmother get her from Romania?"
Reid then looks back to the journal and replies "That's the interesting part, by the way I'm reading this, and it would appear the Cullen family and the Comescu family was close friends with one another, they would hire them to do mercenary work overseas."
This was as good an explanation for James as any, but then he thought for what purpose was she brought here and asks "Does it say why she was brought to the states?"
"Just that she and her brother tried to kill their family when they learned they were working with Nazi's." Reid explained before James replied sarcastically "Well when your family decides to join the most evil thing on earth matricide and patricide and everything else that involves killing your family seems unimportant."
"Well, anyway after they failed your grandmother was given to the Cullen family like a hunting gift." Reid said and James asks "What about her brother?"
"He disappeared on the way to the united states." Reid said.
Satisfied, James did not bother to ask any more questions of Reid and the journal and he remained silent as he took notice to the box with the piece of paper that had his name on it. It was then that he took notice to how everyone was looking at him and asks "Why are you all looking at me like that?"
"We found the blood and the chains." Morgan said; the statement did not even faze James.
"So what? You're surprised?" James asked then follows up by saying "I mean Raven you saw me after they were done, did you really think they didn't have anything gruesome left over?"
"How does that not bother you?" Morgan asked, and then James replied "Who said it doesn't? I was tortured for information I didn't have then I was drugged, not much to talk about."
He then looks to Reid and asks "Hey in the journal did he ever say where they got those explosives from?"
"No, I did find something interesting though." Reid said, and then continued "You were right, someone did tell the Cullen family you were in Parker, but he's gone now. About a year ago they were approached by a man named Jacob Sylvane."
The expression that formed on James face after hearing the name implied that he knew the owner, but was perplexed as to who it is. This caused Emily to ask "Do you know who that is James?"
He then took a look at Emily as he was still trying to understand how the name sounded familiar to him, but it was still a mystery blank to him as he repeated the name a few times over in his head to try to remember where he heard the name, before finally saying "No, nothing."
"Does the journal say where this Sylvane guy is Reid?" Morgan asked, to which the young genius would reply "Just that he left about a week before the killings started for personal business, after that they started killing people in an attempt to lure you out."
"Why would they have thought it would lure me out?" He asked of Reid, still trying to make sense of the madness he was being told with Emily just as confused as he was. It then occurred to him to wonder what the last entry into the journal said and asks "What written on the last page?"
When Reid began to look through the journal Emily watched as James picks up the box with the paper that had his name on it, there were no words for him to read, just his name, and then he opens the box. What was more curious to him, the journal or the box, was a mystery.
Despite every bad feeling the team was getting, excluding Reid who was still surfing through the journal and Riley who was just as curious, no one tried to stop him from putting the box on the table or when he began to look for ways to open it.
Finally Reid located the last entry into Joseph Cullen's journal and says out loud "Here it is, the date is the same time as the day before you and Prentiss were kidnapped, Sylvane returned with a man named Billy Gunther, the two set up explosives and prepared a trap for when you came back. The last entry mentions the two having some kind of meeting, but that's it."
Finally James manages to open the box and says "Well that explains a lot." Causing Emily to ask "Explains what?"
"I'm guessing that Sylvane fellow put a bullet in Cullen's head when he realized he bit off more than he could chew after an army of FED's were started piling up in Parker." James said before starting to look through the contents of the box.
Soon they all could see a look of shock and confusion blanket his face and soon they see him pull out various pictures and then files for them to see, knowing they would ask to see them any way. The various files were from police records then Navy SEAL records on his different assignments as well as pictures of him at different ages.
"Okay, this is a little creepy." James said, examining the pictures and Emily asks "A little?"
"What is all this?" Rossi asks; picking up one of the youngest files containing an updated psychological report on Greaves state of mind, there was nothing new from what he read before, with the exception of it mentioning him having fear of abandonment and trust issues.
"Looks like a collection of pictures and information that Sylvane and the Cullen family collected on me over the years. Some of it goes back to when I was nineteen." James said, his attention coming to one picture in particular of him when he was a Navy Seal standing next to his best friend Oliver.
Emily could see how he was right; one photo of him could be seen around the time they were dating another of him in a cage fight with only his three wolves biting their tails into a circle tattoo on his chest and his birds of a feather on the front of his left shoulder.
There was enough for James to see how much the family knew about him, then he took a look at the dead Joseph in his wheel chair, the sadness was clear as day on his face, the last family member he had left in the world besides his brother Nolan and he was gone, there had never been a time before now that he felt so alone in the world.
Then he remembered how Caleb seemed to know so much about him and all he could think was how much he regretted letting him shoot himself in the chin.
Emily could see it, as he put the picture of him and Oliver down the loneliness in his eyes was clear as day, the feeling of an empty victory, he was finally rid of the last monster and skeleton in his family closet, but now the last person left in his family was gone. It looked like he was almost upset about it.
He then looks to Riley and asks "Do you need me for anything else?"
"No, given that the target is dead, you are free to resume your daily life for now. I will want to speak to you later." Riley said, causing James to ask "What for?"
"Nothing serious, but for now just disregard it." Riley reposts back at him before he looks to Emily and says "See you back in Parker." Then leaves.
