Dear Elijah,
There must have been some moments in your undead life when you let your hair down (so to speak, but I know you must have had some great flowing locks) and just had some good old fashion fun, right?
-Amy from Ithaca, NY
Dear Amy
This seems to be a bit of personal question, but if you must know, yes there have been a few rare moments throughout my existence where I have, as you put it, let my hair down. What you have to understand is that as the eldest of my siblings I had and still have a responsibility to ensure that my brothers, Klaus and Kol in particular were/are behaving. A job which I can assure you is not an easy one, and in order to accomplish this I cannot be indulging in distractions. Each time I have tried to focus on my own happiness it ends apocalyptic.
Does that satisfy your curiosity?

any of the vampires in Mystic Falls,
Because you live . . . well, forever, I'm going to make the assumption that you have seen times change, styles change, music tastes change, etc. Is it hard to adjust to the new styles of each era or is it more of a gradual change? And I know that there are some things that you must miss from different times, like the music and the books. Do you go and attempt to find the music pieces or the books or anything that you once enjoyed and is hard to find now? Or do you just relive it through memories?
On a somewhat completely different note, how does it feel to have so many memories in your head? Is it overwhelming or are you happy with it? I would think it would be amazing to be able to have so many memories to think of, but I guess it would depend on what they are memories of. So, please, if you would, tell me how you feel about them.
Thank you,

This is a good question and I suppose in short, the answer would be no, it's not an easy adjustment, but it can get easier. What makes it difficult is when you become especially fond a specific fad, which then inevitably ends and gets forgotten. It's for this reason that I keep my room as a constant reminder of past memories. I suppose having the memories in your head is no different to what it feels like to humans. You can't think about all of them at once, we just have more memories to be triggered and reflected upon, does that make sense, or am I speaking gibberish?

Personally I absolutely hate memories, they give nothing but nostalgia and longing for world that could never be yours. I have spent half my life keeping myself occupied with little projects to keep my mind focused so I don't have to waste time reflecting on what was. Life is for the future, not the past you'll do well to remember that Sweetheart.
