After Goku landed back at his home, he took a quick shower, getting out just in time to answer the knock at the front door.

"Hey Goku!" It was Krillin. Goku grinned and stepped aside to let his old friend inside. "Man, yesterday was crazy!" Krillin laughed and took a seat at the table. "How's it feel to be home?"

"It feels great to be back…" Goku's tone wasn't as cheerful as Krillin had been expecting.

"Are you okay?" He asked, concerned for his best friend. Goku stared at the table top for some time, debating whether or not to be honest. He knew that he could count on Krillin, no matter what. they'd been friends since they were kids. No one knew him better than Krillin. Goku decided that he had to tell someone, who better than his closest friend?

"Krillin, I… I don't think I can get married…" Krillin stared at him, flabbergasted, so he continued, "I don't think I can marry ChiChi…" Goku kept his eyes locked on Krillin's face, waiting for a reaction.

""Wh… What do you mean, Goku? You've been planning to marry her since we were kids!" Krillin had both palms laid out on the table, and was facing Goku.

"I know! But.. I don't know Krillin. I feel different now. I don't want to be with ChiChi." Goku ran his hands through his hair and then rested his face in them, elbows on the table holding him up.

Krillin gathered his expression and thought for a few passing seconds. He would always support Goku. It was the least he could do. "Well, you gotta tell ChiChi. You can't go through with the wedding, you'll both have a miserable life together." Krillin was right.

"But how?" Goku pleaded.

Krillin stood and placed a hand on Goku's slumped shoulder. "Just be honest." he smiled kindly, always understanding, before turning away. "Listen Goku. You reach out to ChiChi. I'll talk to you later." With a nod, Krillin left Goku alone.

"Just be honest... " Goku thought aloud. He's right… He slammed his fist down on the table, and stood abruptly, deciding to meet ChiChi for lunch. To break the news. He couldn't be completely honest about the circumstances, or he'd crush her. She didn't do anything to deserve that. But he could at least tell her how he was feeling, and that he couldn't commit to the marriage anymore. Even though the task ahead of him was dreadful, he did feel a little bit better about his situation as a whole. He wouldn't make ChiChi or himself unhappy by going through with the marriage. She would be able to find someone who could love her the way he used to. And, he could be with Bulma. Through his guilt, a slight grin played on his lips.

After a hearty breakfast and a little bit of training, Goku washed up and flew to ChiChi's home, where she lived with her father. He knocked on the door three times, and waited.

It was Ox King.

"Oh, uh.. Hi. Is ChiChi home?" Goku asked awkwardly, kicking his toes into the ground nervously. He forgot that it wasn't only ChiChi who would be affected by his decision.

"Goku! It's good to see you!" He was greeted cheerfully with a heavy slap to his shoulder before pulled into the home. "ChiChi, Goku is here for you!" Ox King led Goku inside to wait for ChiChi.

When ChiChi came into the front room, she smiled at Goku warmly and stepped toward him. "Hi." She said, her cheeks beginning to redden. She couldn't believe that only a couple days from now, she'd be marrying this man, who she'd loved her entire life.

"Hi ChiChi." Goku couldn't help a little discomfort in his voice, and became increasingly more nervous as he noticed Ox King. ChiChi's father was standing in the room with them, grinning and watching their exchange. "Um.. Wanna go somewhere?" Goku asked, looking for an excuse to get away from Ox King.

"Sure!" She answered brightly, meeting Goku at the doorway. They turned and walked outside. Goku kept walking with her for several minutes in silence. ChiChi stared at the grass ahead of each step, and Goku looked up at the blue sky. She was happy to be spending some one on one time with Goku, the silence comfortable for her. She didn't know how horribly uncomfortable it was for him.

I have to say it… he thought, glancing down at her. With a deep sigh, he started. "Listen ChiChi, there's something I have to tell you." She stopped walking and stared at him, worry starting to show in her expression.

"What is it Goku?" She asked, clasping her hands together in front of her torso. "Is something wrong?"

"Um.. Yeah, I.." He paused. The words were so much harder to get out than they were to think. " I don't know…" His face was pained with the effort it took to lead such a heavy conversation. He was startled when he felt her small hand on his shoulder.

"It's ok Goku. What is it?" She did not smile to comfort him, but wore a concerned expression.

One more deep sigh, "I don't want to get married anymore." He blurted it out quickly, and they stood for some time in silence, her hand dropping from his shoulder down to her own side.

She drew her eyebrows into a straight line. "What do you mean? Did I… Do something?" Goku's face contorted in his heartache.

"No ChiChi. You're amazing. I just.. I can't do it. I don't.. I can't feel the way you deserve me to feel." Nothing that he could say seemed good enough.

"But you did… You did love me." ChiChi was hot headed at times, but in this moment, all she could think about was not having Goku anymore. Their relationship had never been incredibly romantic or passionate. She thought they were just waiting until after they got married. She had waited her whole life for that bond with him, and now she didn't know if she'd ever have it.

"Of course I did! I still do! Just not like you need me to." He placed both hands on her shoulders and turned her to face him. "I'm not good… For you."

Not good? she thought, furious hurt building in her stomach. Not good?! No one is more good than Goku, how could anyone possibly be better?!" She twisted her body out of Goku's grip and covered her face with her hands. "Wait…" Could it be? Looking up at him, her tears started to flow. "I trusted you… It's her isn't it?" His lips parted, surprised at her question. The expression on her face was torture to him, knowing that he caused it.

"Bulma!" She gasped, taking several steps away from him. She knew how Bulma felt. But she trusted Goku. Goku's body went rigid at the sound of Bulma's name, and he couldn't move to console ChiChi as she fell to her knees on the grass and sobbed. "Leave me!" She cried out, thrusting her arm away from her sending him away. He lingered for a moment longer, before flying off.

I feel so sick. This guilt… Goku thought, the wind whistling in his ears as he flew as fast as he could.
