Title: Christmas Baby; Chapter Nine (The Arrest)
Summary: It is Christmas Eve and a baby gets dropped off at Station fifty-one. How do Matt and Kelly handle it? How do the rest feel. Who falls in love with the baby? Does the little baby find a home?

A/N: So glad you're still with me. I'm so sorry for the long wait but I needed to think about what happened next in my story and I've been sick and I couldn't focus on writing until now. The telephone on Nathan Raines desk rings. His dark blue eyes narrow, as he just looks at it. Finally he picks it up and answers . "Hello?" Nathan speaks into the phone. "Let your hostage go. If you don't you will have a whole lot of trouble rain down on you." Antonio speaks into his cell phone. "I've been thinking Detective Dawson. I want to see Julia Reynolds and my daughter Mattea Kellie. I want to just talk to her. If and when I see them both I will hand over Gabriela Dawson your sister and I will surrender. Only under those conditions will I surrender. I have nothing planned. I know you don't trust me but it has to start somewhere. All bets are off if someone tries to rescue Ms. Dawson." Nathan's eyes brighten at what Antonio says to him.
"All right I'll see what I can do. I'll call back when things are set up and ready. Julia has to agree also or no deal. She has to feel safe." Antonio replied. "I'll only give up if I see Julia and Mattea. Nothing else." Nathan answers. "Okay. I'll call you back. " Antonio says hanging up.

Meanwhile at the hospital, Kelly Severide's cell phone rings. "Warn anyone who has and idea in saving my sister Gabriela to back off. There is something in the works and I don't want a grandstanding hero to mess it up." Antonio spit out, with a few other choice words that were a threat of bodily harm to anyone who interfered that made Kelly rise his eyebrows and hold the phone away from his ear.
"Okay I'll spread the word." Kelly told Antonio. "I need someone to bring Mattea to the scene." Antonio tells Severide. "We won't do anything but for Mattea to be down there we're all coming. No ifs ands or buts. The whole house will be there." Kelly says hanging up.
"What is going on?" Leslie Shay asks her roommate. "Call as many people as you can and get them to come down to the scene. They want Mattea and we all are her backup." Kelly is all business. Leslie starts calling everyone she can as does Kelly. As all the calls are finished, Matt, Katie , and Jeff are staring down Kelly. In unison they all said: "We're coming too." Kelly holds up his hands and says; "Yeah you're coming also but Leslie Shay will keep and eye on Matt and he is coming back here afterward."
Kelly goes to get the doctor and explain what is going on. The doctor reluctantly agrees in releasing his three patients but only if all three come back later to be checked out to see how they are doing. Kelly rushes back to the hospital room to tell the three the good news. Otis and Cruz are waiting in the room also, holding Mattea and talking to her.

Julia Reynolds, is being taken to the scene to see Nathan one last time. To close the last chapter of her life, so she could move on. To also help free the sister of Detective Dawson. She prayed that Nathan had nothing horrible planned and that he meant what he said. He didn't give anybody reason to trust him but he was asking for it.
The driver of the police car she was in, pulled up beside all the others parked at the scene. Julia saw Antonio coming toward the car and opened her door. She got out of the police car and followed him. Julia saw a huge group of men and some women. She realized she recognized some of the people of the group. Julia smiled as her baby Mattea is placed in her arms. Tears are running down her face. She never intended to give up her baby ever but to keep her safe at all costs she would lay down her life for her child.
Mattea seems to smile up at her mother. Mother and daughter are together for the first time since Christmas Eve night. This is a gift in itself. The two being reunited. Julia felt that her heart is whole and that nothing is missing. Being away from her child was and unbearable pain that never went away.
Julia is smiling down at her daughter and Mattea seems to be smiling up at her mother. There is a flash of light and the moment is captured forever in a picture on Matt Casey's cell phone. Matt smiles sheepishly just glad that mother and daughter are together. Julia and her child are surrounded by the firefighters of firehouse fifty-one. Nathan had better think again if he has a plan up his sleeve.

Nathan stands up and heads into the bathroom that is in his office. He finds the first aide kit and goes over to Gabriela. Gabby watches as Nathan comes over to her. He opens the first aide kit and cleans the cut on Gabby's head from the gun he used to pistol-whip her.
"I've been thinking about some things and I don't want to leave a bad legacy for my daughter. What I've been doing for most of my life is wrong. I've grown up knowing it but that doesn't make it right. There is no excuses for what I have been doing with my life. I've hurt and killed a lot of people. I have to deal with the consequences. I want my daughter to look at me with respect but first I have to earn it right? Well this is the first step." Nathan says, as he unties Gabby's feet from the chair legs, and removing her gag.
He goes over to his computer and makes a copy of all of his data of his gang and the higher up people involved in the drug dealings than him. To give to the police in District twenty-one. He Makes all the copies he needs to hand over to the police. He puts them all in his briefcase as the telephone on his desk rings. Nathan picks up the phone to answer it.
"Hey Nathan, Julia and your daughter are here. You may come down." Antonio says getting to the point. "Thank you. I'll be down." Nathan says hanging up the phone. He unties Gabriela from the chair and she stands up as he reties her hands. He doesn't quite trust her fully. Nathan grabs his briefcase and leads Gabby and himself out of his office to the elevators.

Nathan steps outside with Gabriela Dawson in front of him just so no one has itchy trigger fingers. He sees Julia holding their baby, surrounded by firehouse Fifty-one. He respects them for protecting Julia and his baby and adopting the two to the firehouse family. "Detective Dawson I have this for you." Nathan says holding up his briefcase and setting it down on the ground as Antonio goes up and gets the briefcase. He looks at his sister and Gabby nods her head giving him a message that she is okay.
Antonio goes back to where he was at. Nathan steps in front of Julia and Mattea. Everyone of Firehouse Fifty-one is staring him down. They are ready if anything happens. "Julia, I apologize for all I put you through. I've been thinking about a lot of things and I don't want my daughter to look at me with shame in her eyes when she is older. I want to leave her a better legacy than what I am right now. I know I'll be put into prison but I'll take a few of the higher ups with me. Please forgive me for what I've done." Nathan says looking at Julia.
Julia looks at Nathan, in his eyes. He seems to be telling her the truth. "I forgive you. I just want to move on with my life. I want to give, Mattea the best possible life I can. Maybe someday you can see her but now is not the time. I use to love you but when you starting abusing me you lost my love. I wish you well and I do forgive you if not for you for myself so I don't become bitter and angry." Julia replies.
Nathan nods his head. He turns to Gabby and unties her. She goes over to her brother. Nathan raises his hands, ready to surrender. Time seems to stands still and yet speed up as a red laser dot from a long range rifle is being pointed at Nathan to kill him. Jeff Clarke is the only one that notices it in that moment besides Nathan looking down with a horrified expression on his face. His Marine training kicking in. Jeff elbows Kelly in his side and points to Julia and Mattea. Severide gets the message and pulls Julia and the baby back and has everyone back away from the danger.
Jeff Clarke takes a running leap and knocks Nathan down as the first shot is fired. It misses but the next shot is fired by the police who are at the ready. The hit man escapes but the chase is on. Now they need to keep Nathan safe to protect his testimony to get the bigger bad guys of the drug operation.
The danger seems to have passed and Nathan stands up with the help of Jeff Clarke. "Thank you." Nathan says. "I did it so Mattea could have a father to be proud of." Jeff Clarke says. Nathan raises his arms as Antonio Dawson goes up to him and pats him down for weapons and handcuffs him.
Nathan is lead to a police car and the back door is opened and he sits down and the door is closed. The police car is driven away toward the police station. Julia watches as the police car drives away.
She can start a new chapter in her life now. Just in time for the New Year. Julia and her family can start rebuilding their lives together hopefully for the better. What Julia must face is that she will be kept safe as well. She needs to give her testimony as well. Everyone starts gathering evidence around the scene and the police gather witness statements and everyone is allowed to go. Julia cradles Mattea in her arms. Finally able to keep her daughter with her. Everyone else goes home and for some back to the hospital.

The next morning, Jeff Clarke, Katie Nolan, and Matt Casey are released finally from the hospital. Matt is taken with Kelly and Leslie back to their apartment. Kelly is keeping and eye on Matt.
The three head into the apartment and Matt glumly goes to sit on the couch. Memories swirl around Matt's mind of the time The Darren boys went back with their mother. He still misses them and now he misses Mattea. He isn't the only one who misses the wee baby. She made a place in everyone's hearts that is filled with love of her. Everyone is happy for Julia but they will miss the baby.
Kelly goes to the kitchen and grabs two bottles of beer and goes to sit beside Matt. Matt just looks at Kelly and doesn't say anything and takes the bottle of beer offered by Kelly. Matt leaves out a sad sigh and just slouches into the couch more and puts his feet up on the coffee table after he takes his shoes off. He crosses his arms still holding his beer as he stares off into space, thinking about a lot of things.
Kelly looks over at Matt and leaves out a sad sigh also. Kelly opens his bottle of beer and clinks the two bottles together and takes a swig of beer. Saying good-bye will be so hard but they all knew they could keep in touch with each other.
