Bulma stepped onto Master Roshi's small island and collapsed her vehicle back into its capsule, sliding the small cap into her jeans pocket. If Goku is here… She thought to herself threateningly. She hadn't heard from him in three days, and the frustration was beginning to get to her. Had he changed his mind? Run away? What was she supposed to think?!
Determined, she marched to the door of Kame House and wrenched it open. Her large blue eyes scanned over the faces that now stared in her direction. All of her determination drained though, when she crossed eyes with Yamcha.
"Oh, uh, hi everyone." She tried to smile, but she could tell that Krillin, Master Roshi and Tien were all a bit uncomfortable. "Krillin, can I speak to you for a minute?" Bulma quickly retreated back to the small beach and waited.
"Hey, what's up Bulma?" Krillin asked, after closing the door behind him. He had a feeling he knew what this was about. He had known Bulma for a long time, and knew from experience that this wasn't a casual visit.
"Have you seen Goku around?" She wasn't quite sure if Krillin knew anything about what had happened between her and Goku, and wasn't too eager to give anything away. "My dad finished a new… thing for him, and I haven't heard from him in a few days…" Her attempt to sound nonchalant was a failed one.
"Yeah.. Goku told me, Bulma." Krillin glanced nervously back to Kame House, and it was clear that his thoughts were on Yamcha.
"Oh. Well, have you seen him? I haven't heard from him in days."
"I haven't either. I tried to pay him a visit yesterday, but he wouldn't come to the door."
"Was he home?"
"I mean, I thought he was, but I guess I can't know for sure…" Krillin trailed off. He did know for sure.
I see… Bulma's thoughts raced away from her. He definitely changed his mind. "Thanks, Krillin." She smiled at him and waved, before opening her Capsule and flying away
"Man, this is messy." Krillin thought aloud before heading back into Kame House, rubbing his shiny head.
"Well…" Bulma spoke her way through to the thought that was clearest. "I have to speak to him myself.." With that determination, she flew straight toward Goku's house.
The flight seemed long, but to Bulma, it was much too short. She was dreading what she may learn during this visit, if anything at all. She stared at the door for a long time, contemplating whether to knock, or walk right in, or just fly away and pretend it never happened. She could just give him more time? There was no way that he would just stop talking to her? That's right, he would definitely speak to her again, when he was ready. With a deep sigh, she turned to leave.
"Bulma?" Bulma shrieked, and jumped into the air.
"GOKU!" She gasped and clutched her chest dramatically, doubling over before regaining her composure. "Where have you been!? I've been-We've all been worried about you!"
"Really?" he smiled at her kindly, and ran his hand through his spiky hair, seemingly embarrassed.
"Of course! I've been waiting…" She dropped her hands to her sides and looked toward the ground. "You know… I-"
"I know Bulma, and I'm sorry." He stepped toward her and placed one of his hands on her shoulder. "I just had to clear my head." Goku hugged her tightly before continuing. "I had to make things right with ChiChi." Bulma's face fell. She knew that Goku was honorable, and that he wasn't the type to go back on his word. He had already promised to marry ChiChi anyway.
"Not like that." He pushed her face upwards with a finger on her chin and smiled once more. "I trained for a couple of days. Then I apologized." Coming from him, it really sounded just that simple.
"You apologized?" She was a little confused. A combination of expecting the worst outcome, and hoping for the best had left her nerves a little frayed.
"Oh, that's right." He guided Bulma into his house, and sat near her at the dining table. "I called things off with ChiChi, a few days ago." Her eyes widened as she stared at his face. She could see that he was bothered by the circumstances, but he went on. "I felt really bad about it, Bulma." He glanced up at her, his coal-colored eyes meeting her blue ones. She immediately felt ashamed and broke the eye contact. She hadn't felt bad at all for what she had done to Yamcha. All she could think about was how excited she was to finally have a chance with Goku. "I couldn't just leave things like that. Ox King yelled a bit, and ChiChi got a few good hits in," he chuckled. "but then they talked about it…" He shrugged, looking at Bulma. He didn't know what to make of the conversation that ChiChi shared with her father, but he hoped she was as hopeful in the promise of a happy future as Goku was now.
"And that was all?" Bulma's voice was small, and she still couldn't look at Goku. Watching how bad she had made him feel was awful. He was the sweetest person she'd ever known, and she didn't want to put him in such a painful position.
"Ha, yeah, I guess so." Goku ended his answer with another shrug. "I'm starving though. Wanna eat?" he asked as his stomach roared loudly at them both.
"Sure Goku. Let's go somewhere." She stood.
"Okay!" Goku stood just inches from her and held her tightly, inhaling deeply. She's worth all of it. He thought as he buried his face in her curly ocean of hair. Stepping back, he added "I just gotta wash up."
Bulma stood in Goku's kitchen and watched him walk to the back of his house to shower and let out a long sigh. Thank goodness, she thought, as the sudden relief made her feel a little exhausted.
