Pokѐmon Journey I: Violet's Trial
Chapter 17: Master of the Power Plant
Violet's Point of View:
It'd been a bit sketchy over the last few days as I rested up in the Saffron City pokemon center. I'd first been taken to a doctor after I'd passed out from exhaustion from facing Koga and then Team Rocket and their two most powerful people in one day. My left arm was properly casted and I was given instructions on how to take care of it as I continued on with my journey. Luckily, I was told it wasn't supposed to be on for long, just a week or two before it could be wrapped up in a bandage.
Vince and Alex weren't able to apprehend Giovanni or find Rose after he'd left. They'd disappeared from sight after Giovanni did, and any other Rocket member that was still in the building. None were left behind, even the scientist I'd tied up before I'd faced Rose.
But it was still a victory in our favor since Team Rocket didn't get what they wanted. The master ball was still safely in my possession and so was all the work that went with it. Everyone from the building was safe and I was checked up on periodically by my pokemon, family and friends (the only family really being Vince and my pokemon). Apparently my Mom had been notified about what had taken place and was trying to get into the city to see me (more like take me home) but with all the chaos being done about the damage that Team Rocket had done, it's been hard for her and anyone to get into the city (the police have been nice and kept her out.)
I spent the past few days resting up and recovering my energy after being cursed again by Rose's pokemon. It left me feeling drained and tired for the longest time, I couldn't even get out of bed the first time I'd woken up and need to use the bathroom (trust me, that wasn't fun). Thankfully for me, Nurse Joy and her sister Joey, the woman that I'd rescued from inside the Silph Co. building had been taking care of me none stop and making sure I had everything I needed and wanted while I rested. It was peaceful, it was quiet…
It was time for me to get out of there.
While I did enjoy the peace and quiet for the past few days, I needed to get back on the road and get going on my special training for the last couple gyms, that is… if I win my battle today at the psychic type gym here in Saffron. I had a strong belief that I would, but doubt still hung in the back of my mind since I wasn't at one-hundred percent yet, but I couldn't afford to stick around with my Mom just on the boarder of the city.
I sighed and raised my body up from the bed I was staying in, seeing the other two beds next to me in the room we already neatly folded and taken care of. Alex had left already for his training and Vince had head back to Fuchsia City to get his fifth badge from Koga. I'd seen them off yesterday. It was good for the two of to be separated for a little while now that all that drama with Team Rocket suddenly taking over the city was over.
I felt much more energetic now that I'd rested for a few days. Even Amethyst had a livelier streak to herself then she normally did, of course, she still had her naps in her pokeball and next to the bed from time to time. All my pokemon were raring to go after three days of rest in the pokemon center, but they didn't complain so I'd rest.
I put on all my clothes, now that they'd been washed and what not, and I slipped them on before I grabbed my pokeballs and my pokemon that were sleeping around the room. The only one awake at the time was Zircon, Chalcedony and Amber, Ruby and Amethyst were both napping and resting until our battle with the gym leader here, Sabrina Sibyl. I carried Zircon in my arms and Chalcedony on my shoulder while Amber rubbed her eyes and walked at my feet. With the larger pokemon withdrew into their pokeballs, I slipped quietly out of the room and closed the door behind me and headed down the stairs. It was still an early morning, so not many people were up; it was only about seven thirty in the morning, but Sabrina's gym opened at seven, so she should have been awaiting challengers.
I hurried down the stairs and was greeted by a cry from the chancey that worked here with Nurse Joy and Joey. The two of them turned around to face me once I'd gotten down the stairs and both of them sighed.
"I guess there's no way to ask you stay here at all, is there?" Joey questioned sadly.
"Sorry, no." I told her. "I gotta get out of here. My Mom can only be held back so long before she gets into the city and starts looking for me."
"I actually heard that she left to head home a short while ago." Nurse Joy said. "Apparently her health hadn't been doing well and when she wasn't allowed access into the city, she took refuge over in Celadon City where some doctors could help her be more comfortable before they sent her home. At least, that's what I heard yesterday."
"She's sick?" I questioned worriedly. While I didn't want to be trapped by my mother into staying home for the rest of my life, I didn't want her to be ill.
"I don't think it's serious, but she apparently looked bad enough that police escorted her to the hospital. I was notified that she got home a while back and that Professor Oak and his granddaughter Daisy are looking after her presently."
I sighed in relief. It's good to hear that Daisy was back and looking out for my Mom. That makes me feel like I can breathe a little easier.
"Alright, well I'll be heading over to the gym now. I won't be getting that sixth badge if I stick around here."
"Oh!" Nurse Joy ran around the counter to stop me. "Hold on Violet, there's someone here to see you first before you head off."
I blinked a few times before Nurse Joy grabbed my hand and led me out to the other door that led to an outside patio during lunch and other meals for humans and their pokemon. She pushed open the door and pushed me out there and I turned to yell at her when something dark gray caught my eye. My jaw nearly dropped as I watched the ex pokemon of Giovanni, the rhyhorn I'd freed, sit there and look across the patio at me. It smiled at me, but I could see the faint sting that Giovanni had left in this pokemon's heart.
"What are you doing here little rhyhorn?" I questioned as I walked up to it. "Don't you have a family to go back to?"
The pokemon shook its head and slowly walked up to me, lowering its head at the glares my pokemon gave them. I hushed at them not to do so and the pokemon looked up hopefully. It rubbed its head against the side of my body softly, worried it would hurt me.
"This pokemon's been waiting out here for the few days that you've been resting here. We think he might want to join your team." Joey said as she joined her sister and I out on the patio.
"You mean you actually want to fight after all the Giovanni has put you through?" I questioned the pokemon with high doubt and it quickly replied with a shaking of the head no. "But you do want to be on my team?" He shrugged at that.
"What exactly do you want, little rhyhorn?" Nurse Joy questioned. The pokemon whined at me before it cried out its reply.
"You want to replay me for helping you?" The pokemon finally smiled widely and nodded at me with its heavy rocky head. "Hmm… I can't think of anything right now that you could do to make it up to me, and its not like you have to, I was just doing that because you needed the help and were suffering." The pokemon looked down at the ground sadly. "But I do know of a place you can stay at for the time being until anything comes up." The pokemon blinked at me curiously. "I have another pokemon of mine that hates to battle after I took her in once I rescued her from Team Rocket like I did yourself. Her name's Lovey and she's a zubat. She's still recovering from some internal and external wounds that Team Rocket gave her and I was hopping once she was better and I fixed the ties with my mother that I could send her back to help her out and keep her sane. I bet you could do that too once I fix those ties, but until then, you can stay with Bill up in Cerulean Cove."
I saw the pokemon smile with its pale white teeth grinning at me. My pokemon seemed to relax around the rhyhorn now and began crawling all over it, acquainting themselves with the rhyhorn. I pulled out my pokedex quickly so that it would tell me the gender of the pokemon and what I could work with for names for it. It told me the rhyhorn was a male, typical of a person like Giovanni.
"Alright Rhyhorn, now let's come up with a name for you to call you own and then I'll send you up on your way to Bill's and let him know your coming so he'll be waiting for you." I breathed out and thought deeply to the names of gems that would fit the color scheme to this rhyhorn. I thought along the lines of gray and black, finally coming up with one I thought would be suitable. "Okay, I think I got one."
"What's the name Violet?" Nurse Joy questioned.
"Well, there aren't many black gems out there that have a name of their own like Chalcedony's does, and I can't remember any gray stones for some reason, so I went with a black. The name is Black Spinal, but we can always call you Spinal for short. Does that name sound alright?"
The small rock pokemon didn't seem too uncomfortable with the name and he simply nodded to me, I could tell this pokemon would be hard one to get answers out of for a while or more. He did take a bit after his pervious trainer (more like abuser) after all with his secretive nature. It was scared into him.
"Black Spinal it is then, welcome to the family." I got down on one of my knees and allowed my arms to wrap gently around the pokemon's neck where I hugged him. The pokemon easily settled into them before he pulled back and was raring to get on the road to wherever I wanted him to go.
"I can take him up to the Cerulean Cove, it's not far from here and I can make it back by nightfall." Joey said.
"Are you sure you'll be alright Joey? What about Silph Co.?" Her elder sister questioned.
"I'll be fine, and I'll have Black Spinal with me, so should we need to protect ourselves, we can, but otherwise then that, it should be a peaceful walk. And the company will be shut down for a few days to deal with all the damage that Team Rocket's done and help out with the city, we'll be getting back to work after that." Her younger sister replied and Black Spinal threw in his own cry of agreement.
"Well if you don't mind, I greatly appreciate it if you did Joey." My pokemon hurried back over to me and I rubbed the top of Black Spinal's head while my other pokemon took their places where they always were on me now. "And Black Spinal should be fine with Bill for a while; he's got plenty of room and space for him all over the place."
"I think that's it then." Nurse Joy said. "I'll be getting back to work and you'd better make that call soon before you head over to Sabrina's gym, she tends to close it earlier then other gym leaders so she can work with her pokemon and her psychic powers and keep them under control."
"I'll keep that in mind then and leave Black Spinal's journey to you Joey." Said young woman patted my rhyhorn herself and nodded to me.
"We'll be taking off then now; I'll be back by nightfall Sis!" Joey led Black Spinal away with her off the patio and down the street toward the north exit to the city. My pokemon cried out their good-byes to Black Spinal and he grinned back at the others when he looked back.
"I'd better go give that phone call to Bill; I'll leave you to your work now Nurse Joy." I waved to the nurse and her pokemon before I took my smaller battlers and we headed over to the phone and typed in Bill's number.
It was a few rings before I finally saw the older young man pick up. He rubbed his eyes tiredly and I saw Lovey was situated on his shoulder. "Hello…?" He grumbled in his half woken state. I was actually surprised to see him in only a set of sweats and no shirt. I'll never say it unless he needs to hear it, but he looks pretty good…
"Hey Bill! Rise and shine!" All my pokemon cheered out to him and Bill flipped out with a surprised face and leapt back into another area of the house. Lovey jumped off his shoulder and landed before the computer with a snicker hidden behind her wing.
"Morning Lovey, you been doing alright?" My little zubat grinned and nodded while she flapped around her wings that had a couple fewer bandages on her body and wings so that only the bases of them and part of the middle of them were bandaged now.
"I wasn't expecting you so soon Violet, I'd been dressed if I'd thought you'd call." Bill soon popped back up into the picture and he was dressed now in a shirt and jeans. "Leave it to you to call me at an unexpected time."
"Sorry about that, but I needed to give you a heads up or else you'd been getting an even worse surprise later today."
"Another surprise?" He groaned. "What happened this time?"
"I'm taking in the Team Rocket's boss' pokemon that I freed a few days ago during the time when they'd taken over Saffron City and Silph CO. It's a rhyhorn, and another emotionally scared pokemon at that." I played with the hem of my hat. "I still can't send him home to my family because of our arguments and what not, and he doesn't want to fight, but I thought if he stayed with you, he and Lovey could learn to heal and relax a bit and slowly start to heal there emotional scars."
"That's a bit of a tall order Vi." Bill scratched the back of his head.
I blinked. "Taking Black Spinal in?"
"No, expecting them to heal so quickly." Bill corrected. "I don't mind taking him in too, I'm worried you don't think it'll take long for them to get over their fears and fight in battle, that's not good for a trainer to act like that-"
"I wasn't acting like that at all and I don't expect them to heal over night!" I snapped and Bill jumped into the air with Lovey hurrying out of the picture. My nostrils flared and I felt Amethyst and Ruby's pokeballs' shaking in rage. "I'm sorry Bill, but how dare you accuse me of that?" I clenched my fists. "How dare you think I don't care about my pokemon?"
"I never said that Violet!" Bill tried to calm my fury, gesturing for me to sooth my rage. "I'm sorry for what I said, I was only concerned with the way you said it."
"I love my pokemon Bill, like a family that's always there for me." My breathing was shaken as I tried to explain. "I'm going to help them with ever bit of my power, no matter how long it takes. I know that Lovey and Black Spinal aren't going to heal over night, but I thought the two of them would get along together and may be able to help each other heal since they both had experiences with that man and his organization." I looked over at the clock in the corner of the machine and I sighed. "I'm gonna head out Bill, I need to clear my head before I battle the gym leader."
"Violet, I am sorry, I didn't mean to make you or your pokemon upset, really." Bill tried to apologize. "I'll be waiting here for Black Spinal and I'll make sure to take good care of him until you can send him home. Please don't let this argument between us affect our friendship or your gym battle."
I blinked a few times before I sighed and felt the anger slowly begin to flow out of me. "I won't let it Bill, but watch what you say next time about my team and me. Next time I might not be so forgiving."
"Alright, I'll let you go before I make another mistake; I'll let you say good-bye to Lovey."
"Kay." Bill left on the other side of the screen and I saw Lovey appear with a worried look on her face. "Don't worry about me Lovey, I just need some time to cool off, and a good battle and some time to breathe away from the guys should be just the thing I need." I gave her a soft smile. "Can you help out Black Spinal for me Lovey? He was in the same position as you were with Team Rocket and what not, and he's a bit quiet because of it." My tiny bat pokemon nodded and I blew her a kiss. "Thanks Lovey, I'll try and visit you when I get the chance after I train at the abandoned power plant. Bye!"
Lovey waved at me with one of her wings and I shut off the connection before anything else could happen. I sighed and turned back to my pokmeon that all looked at me worriedly. "Why don't we go for a quick walk before we head to Sabrina's gym?"
They all quietly nodded in approval as we set out silently past the stairs of many others in the city. I let Amber lead the way and choose where to go while I let myself drift into the depths of my mind.
HalloweenWitchHalloweenWitch
Our walk lasted for nearly half an hour and it gave us a chance to walk around the city at least once before we ended up before Sabrina's gym. After thinking long and hard about what had taken place today, my actions I saw were inexcusable. After Bill and I had some more time to cool down, I'd visit him and the others to apologize and check in after I'd gone to the abandoned power plant for training and making sure the pokemon there and Zapdos were alright and what not.
I saw before the large, round building that it was colored a light faded magenta color and that many smaller psychic pokemon were floating around the front. I even saw there wasn't a door to the building, which made me wonder how I was supposed to get in.
"Rai!" Amber shouted and I followed her pointed finger to where a man was sitting outside the gym. He was dressed like a monk and was meditating (or so it seemed) right before the front of the building where a door would be. I blinked a few times before I walked toward him and stopped before the man. I heard him softly humming a constant note and watched as he gently floated up off the ground and into the air. He cracked an eye open and looked at me with bored eyes.
"Are you on Mistress Sabrina's waiting list?" He questioned.
"Waiting list?" I asked softly. "What waiting list?"
"A mental list that Sabrina makes everyday of the possible challengers that she is willing to face. If you are on her list, then I will take you inside to face her, if not, come back another day." He replied in a bored like manner. "Now who are you?"
"Um… I'm Violet Vilmos." I watched as the man closed his eyes and I watched the outline of his body glow a bright green color. It was beautiful to see. So this is how it is for psychic people… I wonder what Sabrina will be like then?
"I see… you are on the list Miss Vilmos, and at the top I might add." The man opened his eyes and stood on his legs before me, standing nearly two feet over my head and I gapped as I looked up at him. "Sabrina has been looking forward to a battle with you and has had many predictions of the outcome that she has stopped relying on them for the winner of the match. She wants to see how the battle will turn out without the use of her powers and having an honest battle with you, thought that does not mean she won't mentally give her pokemon commands."
"That's fine, I came here for a battle and a badge, whether I can hear her orders or not, I'll adapt. Can you please let me in now for my battle?"
"Of course." The guy bowed his head and suddenly I saw the green glow appear over the two of us and my three presently out pokemon before a flash of white appeared before my eyes and I suddenly saw we were inside the gym. A large battle field stood before me on the enclosed walls that were lit up by massive torches hung by metal brackets.
"So you've arrived. I was waiting for this battle." I glanced across the battle field to see a young woman not much taller then myself, dressed in an outfit of dark blue and pale magenta waves and stiffly pulled back dark blue hair with a hint of gray, Sabrina closed in and stood within her box on her sided of the field. Her eyes at first were dark as they looked at me as an opponent, but then gave me a calmer look and a neutral smile appeared for a moment on her lips. "I'm very thankful for all you did for our city in our time of need when many were powerless to Team Rocket's wrath, but while I'm glad to call you a fellow trainer and heroin to many, you are still a changer here and I am the gym leader. To earn my respect you must beat me, and then I shall give you my trust and my badge."
"Your trust?" I questioned her.
"To save the many others from Team Rocket's diabolical deeds. To stop them once and for all… to be there should you need help on the battle field when you face them again."
"I see…" I never thought I'd need help of the other gym leaders to help me, but they are the only other suitable trainers that would measure up and beyond the level of the Team Rocket members and their higher ups.
"I see you are itching to start our battle… as am I." She had a glowing magenta-purple hue to her outline of her body and a pokeball with the same colored outline appeared beside her. "Are you prepared?"
"I wouldn't be here if I wasn't ready to face you Sabrina." The three pokmeon I had out looked at me questioningly, wondering who I'd use in the battle. After all the drama with Team Rocket, I knew Amber didn't want to battle and Zircon had yet to receive much training, so the two of them were out. Amethyst was still puzzled by the strange new attack that she had performed that night against Giovanni's kangaskhan so that she was thinking to much and was distracted at the time too much for a battle. My only choices for the ones I'd first send out were Chalcedony and Ruby, who were always itching for a fight (not like Amber and Amethyst haven't been, but other things like new powers and mothers have been on their minds). The two of them I thought would be more then enough for this battle with their advantages over psychic types and their speed to avoid the attacks.
"Ee!" Chalcedony cried out. "Ee eevee ee!"
"You wanna go first Chalcedony?" I questioned. "I don't see why not, but you better leave some left for Ruby, she's dying for a strong opponent, apparently Rose and Giovanni weren't filling enough for her, but were too emotional." My normal type pokemon nodded and jumped out of my trainer box before me and bared his teeth, ready to chomp down on the enemy.
"I won't allow you to take my badge so easily Violet!" Sabrina snapped. "Go Slowpoke!" From the pokeball the floated next to her, a beam of white light released itself from the contraption and landed on the field. I heard a yawn from the other corner and saw that the pokemon was a slowpoke, one of the slowest and laziest pokemon know in the region, besides a snorlax. It was small bodied that was flat out and laid on the ground, it was bright pink in color with its belly, paws and lower half of his face, chin and neck were all a pale skin color. Its ears were round and its face adorable with a goofy looking relaxed nature to it. It swished around its white tipped tail and relaxed on the field, falling into a quiet slumber.
I blinked a few times and I saw Chalcedony get mad at it. My poor normal type pokmeon didn't like being ignored, especially in battle. I blinked wildly as my pokemon made multiple shadow balls at once that emerged from his mouth and spin around him before he ran at the slowpoke.
"Wait Chalcedony!" My pokemon didn't heel my call during its fit of rage and dashed right at the lazy pokemon.
I didn't hear a word from Sabrina as she glared down at my pokemon while it raced across the field. The slowpoke suddenly awakened from its short lived slumber and looked lazily at Chalcedony barreling toward it. Its eyes glowed and I saw a sudden flash race by both of us and I dared to turn and look at what had passed me. A horizontal slice was imprinted into the wall that had only missed me by a few inches.
My eyes raced to my normal type pokemon. He'd somehow avoid the attack and jumped to the other side of the field. He then fired all the shadow balls that flew around him at the slowpoke and with the slowpoke now close enough and it too slow to turn its head in time, it was thrown off the ground and rolled to the other part of Sabrina's side of the field with the other few shadow balls all following after it.
I couldn't let Chalcedony do all the work around here. "Chalcedony! Follow up with iron tail!" I finally saw a grin on that pokemon's face and my normal type threw its tiny body forward toward the slowpoke. With its slow reaction time, the enemy pokemon didn't have enough time to turn around and see the attack coming before the rest of the shadow balls hit it and Chalcedony swung his body around so that his tail landed first as the two bodies crashed into one another.
I blinked a few times as I saw the dust rise from the ground upon impact and Chalcedony easily walked out of it without a mark on him. As for the slowpoke, we didn't see it emerge from the dust cloud that covered the field. Sabrina sighed and her pokeball flew forward into the dust and it suddenly cleared and we saw the first pokemon out on the ground. She withdrew it back into its pokeball and the ball suddenly vanished in a hazy white light. I had to shield my eyes as I watched another pokeball come forth and she looked at me questioningly.
"I hope you don't think that by beating my slowpoke that you've set your victory in stone just yet. Slowpoke was a recently captured pokemon and this was his first gym battle."
I sighed and fell to my knees. I'm glad its not going to be a weak battle, but that was a little reckless with a new pokemon.
"It was not reckless, it was her choice to try and face you." I jumped when she replied. Sabrina smiled evilly. "And yes, I can hear you thoughts clear as day, when I focus enough."
Damn, my thoughts are no longer safe…a least most of the time. I looked out to my pokemon on the field; he was waiting impatiently for the next pokemon to come out.
"Now face my real team Violet!" The pokeball flew forward and out popped a clown look-alike pokemon that was pale white and magenta in color with an almost black blue colored hair that was pulled off to either side of its head into thin zig zag like tails. Its hands were massive with swirls on the tips of its fingers that had gloves over them. A circle was placed on the center of its chest and black jester like shoes were its feet. "Go Mr. Mime!"
A Mr. Mine huh? Never faced a pokemon like that before. The strange new pokemon smiled over at me and Chalcedony before I saw it start to dance around with its eyes glowing lavender-pink.
I suddenly saw the outlines of almost a web that turned into invisible walls shape itself around Chalcedony, but he sprinted out of it. As he rounded around to face the pokemon, I heard a loud smack before I saw him thrown back. From the effort of Chalcedony's attack, I saw the outline of an invisible wall before its presence faded again.
Chalcedony didn't like the fact of being trapped and ran out in every direction he could to get out and get to the Mr. Mime, but all attempts ended in futile. Multiple times he ended up head first into a wall before he was thrown back into another. Chalcedony was loosing his energy fast and I saw his body giving out.
I needed information on this pokemon fast if I was gonna help my pokemon. I pulled out my pokedex and pointed it at the strange pokemon. Mr. Mine, the barrier pokemon. Mr. Mimes are masters of pantomime. It can convince others that something un-seeable actually exists. Once believed, the imaginary object does become real. If interrupted while it is miming, it will suddenly double slap the offender with its broad hands. There are no known Mr. Mime nests in the Kanto region.
Shit! No wonder Chalcedony's trapped! I gotta get him out of there… but how? I hissed in anger as I watched my poor normal type trying to force his way through the many invisible walls that Mr. Mime had created. Chalcedony would find his way out of one area, but then up into another wall or two, ricocheting off them to the point he couldn't remember where he was in the maze.
"Break through it Chalcedony! Shadow Ball!" I tried anyway I could to help him break through. Those walls couldn't be that powerful, they shouldn't be able to handle attacks right?
My pokemon cried out and threw a larger version of its shadow ball attack toward the wall right before it. The wall I could hear crack and crumble before the might of a shadow ball (being the type advantage most likely) and sped forward through to the Mr. Mime on the other side.
"Hurry Chalcedony! After it before the walls come back! Follow the path of your attack and use iron tail on the Mr. Mime!" My pokemon used some of the last of its energy to race after the shadow ball it'd just created. It leapt through the hole and I saw his tail turn metallic as he followed up on his attack. The Mr. Mime freaked out when it saw the shadow ball and couldn't dodge it in time as it hit it square in the face and Chalcedony followed up behind it with his iron tail. He swung the tail right across the face like a metal slap in the same area where his shadow ball had hit.
I saw Sabrina hiss on the other side of the field as her pokemon took more damage then she probably was gunning for. She shook her head and then her eyes glowed the same color as the Mr. Mime's and I watched as the two of them nearly moved in sync. While the Mr. Mime was still flying in the air, Chalcedony was lifted off the ground and thrown into the walls around him. He cried out as he took on so much damage before I saw him go limp. My eyes widened and my breathing hitched.
The Mr. Mime shook his head as he floated out of the air to the ground and gently lifted the maze that was on the field and lowered my worn out pokemon in my arms. Zircon moved out of the way and curled his body around Amber as the two of them looked worriedly at Chalcedony. It was the first time any of my pokemon had lost in a long time, not since Viridian Forest when the guys almost captured me and right after I'd gotten Amber added to my team.
Chalcedony was so far out of it, swirls were over his eyes and his breathing was almost non existence. I patted his head and his eyes returned to their onyx state as they looked up at me nervously.
"Don't worry about it Chalcedony, you did great. We'll train and get better for next time, Ruby will avenge you." He nodded and curled into my arms and I pulled out his pokeball and I returned him inside. I hoped his wounds would heal.
I'd risen to my feet and looked at the Mr. Mime across the field. It was still moving about its hands and dancing with its eyes glowing, waiting on my next move and listing in on its trainer's thoughts. This must be what that monk guy was talking about with her telling her pokemon to do things in their heads. Is this the real power of a trainer that has psychic abilities?
"I await your next pokemon Violet." Sabrina was seriously into the battle and didn't like my hesitation. I breathed out slowly and pulled out Ruby's pokeball.
"Let's avenge Chalcedony, go Ruby!" My bug and flying type pokemon quickly was out of its pokeball and before Sabrina's Mr. Mime. I saw its eyes narrowed at the same time as Sabrina's. They knew that Ruby had the type advantage over it.
Ruby's raging eyes glanced over the field and over at the psychic type that she was to face. I saw her eyes racing to different parts of the field while her wings flapped about lightly, I could feel the light breeze from them. Did she find a way to know where the walls are?
I saw Sabrina still looking over at her pokemon and talking to it, giving it directions and what not probably. I didn't think she figured out yet that Ruby knew how to find those walls. This could be helpful to us.
I saw Sabrina look up in an instant after my recent thoughts ran through my head. She must've been partly listing to me while she talked with her pokemon. I smiled at her and refused to think about Ruby while I brought up past memories and ran through my entire journey from start to finish while my pokemon waited on me distracting Sabrina.
"Now Ruby! Go!" Ruby took off in the split second that I stopped my memories to give her the order before I returned to the same sequence again. Sabrina was holding the side of her head in pain from the film of memories she was watching in my head while trying to stay linked to the battle and see what Ruby was doing. Without an order from its trainer, the Mr. Mime didn't know what to do, plus it cringed when Sabrina did, which meant the two of them were still linked up mentally. I grinned and allowed my memories to halt long enough for Sabrina to catch her bearings and look at the field around her.
Sabrina blinked a few times and as she looked out onto the field, she gasped. My sycther was standing right before her Mr. Mime, who only then realized it itself. It looked up to my pokemon in fear and Ruby grinned at it while she raised her blades.
"Silver wind Ruby!" The rapid beating of her wings reached my ears while she was inside the maze and I watched them glow in a silvery way. The glittered currents of air passed through all the tunnels on the field that made out the maze and hit the Mr. Mime head on and threw him into one of his own walls. When it next looked up as well as Sabrina when the attack was calmed down, the Mr. Mime nearly fell over in fright. The entire field's maze was covered in the glittery silver powder from the attack and made the invisible walls not so invisible any longer.
"No way…" Sabrina breathed shakily. "No one's ever rendered my invisible wall useless before…"
"I guess I'm the first then. Now, where were we? Oh right!" I pointed my first finger at the Mr. Mime. "Finish it off with fury cutter Ruby!" My pokemon's eyes glowed red with its anticipation and sharpened its scythes on each other before she raised it over her head to start hacking away.
I blinked a few times as my pokemon stopped and looked at the pokemon before her. The Mr. Mime was flat on the ground, white in fear, and fainted on us. Ruby didn't even get to finish it off. My sycther huffed and crossed her bladed arms while Sabrina called back her pokemon and sighed. When the pokemon was off the field, the invisible maze that was covered in my pokemon's silver wind was slowly disappearing until it faded from sight.
"Never did I think my pokemon would be so terrified that it'd faint before an attack." Sabrina looked over at me with a sly smile. "But that's not the scariest pokemon on your team, is it?"
"Nope." I grinned. "So who's next? Ruby didn't get all her exercise in for the morning yet." My bug type grinned and threw her blades to make that air slicing sound before crossing them before her.
"My final and most powerful pokemon, lets go Alakazam!"
Alakazam? That's the same pokemon Alex said had just evolved on his team. I watched the light of Sabrina's last pokeball reveal a taller and thinner version of the kadabra I'd seen before on Alex's team. Two long ends of a mustache were on its face and two spoons were in its hands. Its tail was gone and its body looked slim and quick. It was still the same coloring as before.
I pulled out my pokedex to see what this one was about. Alakazam, the psi pokemon. While it has strong psychic abilities and high intelligence, an alakazam's muscles are very weak. It uses psychic power to move its body. Its brain can out perform a super computer. Its IQ is said to be around five thousand. There are no known alakazam nests in the region.
That's a pretty smart pokemon… but smarts aren't all it takes to be strong. "Let's finish this up Ruby! Fury cutter!" My bug pokemon leapt forward and with her blades slicing through eh wind and her wings carrying her all the way, red eyes stared the opponent down before a quick movement of the blade slashed at the final enemy. I heard a clang and a crack and I hissed as I watched my pokemon's blade arm get stuck in the invisible wall created by the alakazam on short notice.
"While you may have speed on your side Violet, my alakazam's intelligence can predict your every move and protect itself before you can attack." Sabrina gloated toward me.
I rolled my eyes. "Don't be so cocky missy, brain isn't all you need, haven't you ever heard that it takes more then just a brain or a brawn?"
"I think you're confused, I think you mean brain over brawn."
"Oh you are so going down!" I looked at my pokemon that watched its opponent carefully. "Let's go Ruby! Silver wind! As strong as you can make it!" The entire battle field was quickly submerged in a sea of glittery silver and I heard Sabrina cry out, but I couldn't see her through the gusts. As it slowly cleared, I watched as an outline to an entire safe wall of protect was covered in the silvery glitter around the alakazam, other then the small hole from Ruby's earlier attack.
The wall shattered to pieces in the next moment and I watched as the Alakazam staggered on its feet. Its chest was completely covered in the silver wind's remains. My eyes widened as a thought dawned on me. That's right! Alakazam are powerful only in the mind and with their metal attacks! Their not physically strong and can't stand high powered attacks, especially if they're the type advantage over them.
"Go Ruby, again with fury cutter! Finish it off!"
"Counter it with fire punch Alakzam!"
"Ruby, look out!" It all happened so fast, I almost didn't register it all. Ruby had been going in for the final blow when all of a sudden Sabrina pulled a fast one on me with a physical move from the alakazam that had the type advantage over her. Ruby didn't hear me over the adrenaline from the battle and while her attack hit its mark, it was pushed off to the side slightly by the alakazam's attack and his fist bounced off her scythe arms and hit her wings. She cried out as I watched them catch fire and she rapidly beated them to turn out the fire. The fire was quickly out with the pace she beat her wings at, but the damage was done, her wings were burnt and still caused her pain. She wouldn't be able to fly until her wings were taken care of.
On the other hand, the Alakazam wasn't fairing much better. In only a few attacks, he'd taken quite a beating from my pokemon and was hardly able to stand. It was breathing heavily and Sabrina was noticing now that she had slim chances of winning. This was the last move for her pokemon, a make it or break it chance. She needed to take out Ruby and then hope she could survive for whoever else I put in next (which would have been Amethyst most likely since the other two I already told them they could sit the battle out.)
"It's the last move Ruby, we gotta make it count girl, can you do it?" My sycther nodded and stood up on her legs from the ground she was resting on. Her wings she kept back and folded out of the way to try and avoid getting hit there again.
"It's our last chance Alakazam, let's do our best!" The alakazam cried out and I was surprised that she wasn't mentally talking in her head to her pokemon anymore.
"Let's finish this!" Our voices carried out into the field at the same time and out pokemon took their stances, ready to leap forward and attack.
"Alakazam!"
"Ruby!"
"Fire punch!"
"Quick attack!"
The two bodies raced forward as soon as their attack was given to them. Their eyes were both glowing in determination as they approached each other down the field and were nearing the collision. A fist of fire and a thrusted out blade were to meet and so they did as a rush of power threw everyone back into the wall, all of us taking the hit from the power from our pokemon's attacks. Dust covered the battlefield as I rushed to my feet and back into my box from where I hit the wall and watched as the two shadows appeared.
One was standing, the other was not.
My eyes widened as I watched in anticipation which one of our two pokemon were still standing on the battlefield. Sabrina came into my sights before them, and even she was waiting for the victor. She'd totally abandoned her powers through the adrenaline that was pumping in our systems from the powerful battle, even if only so few moves had been used.
Our eyes trailed to the shadows that began to take shape. While the one on the ground was still had to notice since it almost looked like a blob, I focused on the standing pokemon. With Ruby's wings bent back, I didn't know if it was here or not without them standing out like they normally did. Suddenly the shadow took more shape and I saw the long scythe like blades hanging from the arms of the standing shadow and I grinned.
"Ruby won!" It was in that next second that I heard a buzzing sound and the dust flew back past us and I closed my eyes to keep the dirt out of them. When I slowly opened them next when the wind had died down, there Ruby stood before me with her burned wings outstretched and buzzing away the dust and allowing me to see her fallen opponent, Sabrina's alakazam, lying face first into the ground with its two spoons knocked clear out of its hands. Ruby breathed heavily and I helped her slowly lower her body to the ground so she could catch her breath easier. I gently patted and rubbed the top of her head and felt the hard outside shell to her body.
"Great job Ruby, thank you so much. I hope the battle made you feel better." With a laugh my pokemon only shrugged and I joined in the as I pulled out a burn heal for her wings. The singed look to them started to heal, but for her to feel at one-hundred percent again, she needed attention from Nurse Joy.
"I guess I have many things to still learn Violet." I looked up from where I was tending Ruby to see Sabrina walking over to me. Her alakazam apparently wasn't in too rough of shape since it was able to levitate over to us in a meditative pose. "That was one of the best battles I've had in my entire life. I'm grateful for having such a wonderful battle with you. And it was nice to feel… normal. Not using my powers during the match as much as I normally do."
"That means I get my badge right?" I questioned hesitantly while rubbing the back of my head.
"Of course, it'd be too rude for even me to make you leave without a badge." She gave me a real smile this time around and held out her hand. Within the palm of it was a circular gold badge with another gold circle in the center of the first, layer on top. "This badge of mine is called the marsh badge. I've extremely proud to give my badge to such a worthy and heroic trainer."
"Awe man, you're making me blush Sabrina." I tilted my head to the side to hide the red flush coming to my face from all the attention while I took her badge. I got over my embarrassment long enough to look at the badge and close it in my fist. "It's my sixth badge, only two more to go."
"If I may make a suggestion then to you Violet, your next gym battle will be with the gym leader Blaine Volcano." Sabrina said. "As his name suggests, he's someone who fancies fire types above all, so ground, rock or water would be your best bet to fight him, or something that can stand up to his pokemon." She pulled out a map for me and pointed to the island at the south-west most area in the Kanto region. "He's gym is on Cinnabar Island, you can get there from either the south-west route from Fuchsia City or the south route from Pallet Town. Either way it won't matter since I know you can use two of you pokemon to fly there. I'll let him know that you'll be heading his way next. He's been quite energetic for a battle with you."
"I'll keep that in mind then, but tell him to not to expect me over night or anything like that. I have a couple places I want to train at before I face him, plus Chalcedony will want more training after loosing to your Mr. Mime today and Zircon still needs some more battling experience, so I'm hoping to find some younger pokemon for him to face off against." I put my sixth badge in my badge case and the young woman nodded to me.
"I shall do that then." Sabrina smiled kindly at me and snorted a laugh. "Should you ever return to Saffron City, be sure to come by the gym some time, I'd love another battle with you once your pokemon are stronger."
I returned Ruby to her pokeball and called out Amethyst from hers and she yawned. "I'll do that then. Thanks for the badge Sabrina!" I climbed up onto Amethyst's shoulders and gripped her horns, the others were already grabbed onto my body, ready to take off when I then realized there was no door and I sighed in defeat. "Before we go, could you teleport us out so we can go?"
Sabrina laughed but all the same nodded and her eyes glowed magenta-purple as well as a thin outline of that color appeared around her. I saw the same white light that I had before and before I knew it, Sabrina was gone and so was the battlefield. I was out to the same spot I was at before with the monk like guy sitting out before the wall.
"A good battle you had." He nodded to me. "Come back anytime Miss Vilmos."
I grinned. "I will." Amethyst took that moment to take a few steps away from him before she spread her wings and leapt into the sky, the winds taking her higher and higher from the ground and where we once were. With another look at my badges, the count now at six, I felt a slight giddiness inside my heart as I realized I was getting closer and closer to my goal of being the strongest trainer.
I could feel Amethyst's grin from the way her skin moved under my hands that gripped her horns. She was happy for us for getting this far, and it was now time to slightly wind down as we headed to the abandoned power plant for training and meeting with Zapdos.
HalloweenWitchHalloweenWitch
I had Amethyst make a quick stop for all of us over at the pokemon center that was just north of the abandoned power plant. I wanted to stop there for a quick lunch for everyone and for Ruby and Chalcedony to get healed after our battle with Sabrina. Chalcedony was a bit unlike himself after the battle. I guess he took the loss harder then I originally had through, but he perked up after we told him that we'd won the battle and that we were going for more training after this. He was excited to be training and getting stronger so he wouldn't loose in the future or disappoint his team and trainer.
With lunch settled and out of the way, I kept everyone outside of their pokeballs and we flew down to the abandoned power plant just over a rough mountain side that blocked off the building that was only accessible by flight or by the river to the east. It was a very large building and I could still see the wires and cables that ran though here which I bet the electric pokemon used for their own convenience. I didn't look like it had a second floor however and it was starting to look a bit run down, but not enough to the point where it was over twenties years old or more.
I jumped down off Amethyst's shoulders and pushed open the door slightly to peak inside. I didn't see a single sign of life as I looked around. Not even a sound was made. I sighed and pushed the door open wider until there was enough space for all of my pokemon to look inside. When Amethyst she could smell a few pokemon here, I nodded and walked inside to see the soft patches of dead grass that was brought inside and in between walls and desks and piles of rubble that were turned into homes and shelter for the electric pokemon that lived here.
I finally heard a tiny bit of movement and turned my head just in time to see a flash of red. I blinked my eyes and walked over to that room while my pokemon continued to look around. I pushed open the door that was only slightly left open and gasped and jumped back at the large number of pokemon before me. Electrode and voltorb were all stacked up in layers with glowing red eyes of rage, nearly as red and Ruby's.
"Uh… hi?" I rubbed the back of my head nervously. "Sorry… wrong door, my apologies." I quietly shut the door and backed away from it slowly and rushed off to find my other pokemon before I ended up getting electrocuted.
I quickly found Zircon who was in the middle of a stare contest with a tiny magnemite, a small magnet shaped pokemon that was a little gray colored eye ball with two magnets on either side of its head blue and red tipped. As soon as it got a glimpse of me walking toward my pokemon, it turned white in fear and flew off into the depths of the area.
"What just happened?" The pokemon here were deathly afraid of me whenever I came near. Did they think I was a member of Team Rocket who hurt and kidnapped all the pokemon all over the region?
I looked down nervously to my pokemon. "I don't want to agitate these guys, maybe we should leave." Zircon whined and looked up with me with his large beady eyes.
"Rhu!" Amethyst called out and I looked over to where she was standing. She and the others all seemed to be talking together with some of the wild pokemon over in the corner. The pokemon seemed nervous of whatever they were talking about and the sheer size and power that my two strongest pokemon had. They seemed the least afraid of Amber as they talked, most likely because she was their size and a pokemon they probably see from time to time, not to mention she's an electric type and her pre-evolution stage of a pikachu reside here as a home.
I set Zircon on the floor and he looked up at me with his questioning eyes, almost like a soft flowing black river. "Go see what's going on Zircon, I'll give you guys some space so maybe the pokemon will come out and talk to you. I'll just look around and try not to get in any trouble." My pokemon looked at me worriedly but obeyed my request and slithered off toward the others, climbing up onto Ruby's body.
I sighed and turned to look down another hallway that led into the deeper area of the power plant. Papers and calculations I saw were still on them from whoever was here last and ran the building. Many containers of gas and oil lay to waste here, even some that had never been opened or used. They were probably still good, even after all these years if they were sealed tightly.
Generators of small sizes were places all over the places and around people's desks, I imagine for some strange reason there was one generator for each desk, a tiny one that probably ran on a whole bunch of power while trying to send that power to others around the cites and what not. But now with pokemon helping us with powering the nation, its not extremely necessary to use power plants, unless by some chance we need high powered buildings and pokemon power again in the future (and with the way technology's chancing every day, that might just happened). I hope it doesn't force these guys to loose their home. I'd hate for that to happen.
I kept walking down the many hallways and paths that were made out by the pokemon here until I saw some large wires that carried across the floor into another very large room. I slowly and quietly walked toward it and watched as the wires soon connected with a large generator that took up nearly half the room.
Wow, was this the extent that people used these things for in the past? That's huge! I bet with the right power source, it could power the entire nation from just this one spot. That's pretty amazing… I'm glad that the pokemon could use this powerful place to live, and I bet it keeps them safe from most of the elements.
I turned my head to look beyond the giant generator and my eyes widened as I became frozen in my step. There, in the center of the room was a large nest made of twigs, jagged black and yellow feathers and leaves. The large room had a large hole in the corner, large enough for whatever made this nest could slip in; water was dripping from the edge of that open whole in the roof that came onto the weeds that grew in the corner through the rotted floor.
There was only one pokemon who could fit this bill, only one pokemon I knew that would live in this area and have this kind of home, Zapdos the legendary bird of lightning. This must have been its home among the other electric pokemon that live here, and it must be their guardian.
I saw the nest shake suddenly and I jumped back behind the large generator. When I looked back around the corner to see the monstrous pokemon, I was shocked to see that it didn't look much more then a baby bird. It was smaller then even myself, it couldn't have been much taller then my chest, and I'm only thirteen! Its yellow and black layered feathers over its jagged wings flapped about while its wild feathers were sticking out in every direction on its head and short, but tall tail. Over its back was smoothed down feathers and its legs were bare with some down fluff of dull yellow sticking out around the bases of its legs on its hips. Its eyes were long horizontally and had a slash shaped pupil that was colored black. Its long orange beak was open and it cried out above to where the hole was. I looked around the corner even more and gasped when I saw a much larger version of the tiny legendary bird fly down through the hole in the ceiling that wasn't over the nest.
It was the real legendary bird of lightning, the adult Zapdos.
It landed on the ground and walked over to the nest where I saw it upchucking some food from its stomach whole for its kid. The little one eagerly started to eat what was fed to it in its parent's mouth. The small bird cheered happily with a full stomach when it had its fill and the parents re-swallowed the rest that its child hadn't eaten for itself.
Suddenly the bird's stance went stiff and it turned in my direction and I only had a second to react, turning on my feet and hiding entirely behind the generator. I looked through a small opening in the machine on both my side and theirs. Through the tiny cracks I watched the parent bird looking directly at the machine, seeing and hearing for anything out of place. I stayed entirely still and breathed as if quietly to the point where I didn't think I was breathing.
The larger bird pokemon soon deemed it safe and calmed its stance, turning back to its confused kid. The youngling blinked up at its parent in question and cried out to it softly, most likely asking what's wrong. I sighed stiffly when I realized I was off the hook and should leave them be and maybe meet Zapdos on better terms when it wasn't with its kid, or else things might get ugly.
I turned around to head back to my pokemon toward the entrance to this place when I saw something yellow. When I fully turned around, is saw the true terror that faced me, a small pikachu stood behind me with a pale completion from its fear as it stood before me.
I stiffed. Tauros shit…
The pikachu let out a frightful wail and I heard a screech from behind me. I turned and everything felt like it was in slow motion as I watched the angry bird dive at me. I let out a sudden surprised scream and took off into the power plant while the large bird crashed into the wall next to me where I had just been standing only a short few seconds ago. I didn't dare look back since I knew the peeved bird would be directly on my tail.
I had to get to the others or else… that bird would kill me!
I sprinted as hard as my legs would carry me while the screeching cries increased and became louder behind me, I suddenly saw my pokemon and they all looked to me in fright as the legendary bird trailed behind me at such a speed. I dared to look over my shoulder the next second and watched as the bird's beak was only a foot from the side my neck. I kept running, but my eyes closed, the instinctual thing that happens when you're scared. And I was, I was afraid that that bird was gonna tear me to shreds and feet me to its little kid for dinner.
Something raced by me, whatever it was, it had an angry glare to its eye. When I saw the large flash of purple-gray behind me, I slowed my pace and watched in worry as Amethyst had taken my place and stood protectively before me with her arms outstretched to reach the bird should it dive at me once more.
More flashes raced around me, all five of my pokemon stood protectively before me, ready to take a hit or defend should they need to. Ruby turned back to me for a moment and threw Zircon in my direction; I caught him with my one good arm and held him as Ruby motioned for us to go. The bird watched this situation unfold with its furious onyx eyes and hovered above as it waited for a perfect moment to strike.
"Scyther scy scythe scyther!" she shouted at me.
"I'm not about to leave you guys here alone to face Zapdos!" I snapped back at her. "We're a team! Remember?"
"Rhuu!" Amethyst called back. "Rhu rhuu rhu!"
"I don't care if I get hurt again!" Even though they were telling me to run, to get out of the way to be safe, I couldn't do that, not to them… "You guys are my family! I'm not abandoning you or leaving you to be eaten by that thing!"
"Raichu rai! Chu!" Amber cried back, whipping her long tail in the air, sending a short but powerful brush of air in my face.
"Ee! Eeevee ee ee!" Chalcedony he kicked back some tiny rocks and dust at me, trying to push me back or force me to turn away, but I refused and pushed through the dust until I was up in the middle of them.
"I'm not going anywhere, and nothing you guys say is going to make me either." I told the lot of them as they're worried faces fill with tears looked at me. "We're a team to the bitter end, no matter what. And as a team, we'll face Zapdos and try to reason with it, but I'm not baling out on my family! Understand?"
My team finally gave up on trying to make me leave and turned back to the angered zapdos that flew overhead, watching us with an annoyed expression. It screeched at us and its body started to light up with electric pulses that crackled and snapped. I guess it wouldn't hurt to see if the pokedex has any information to help us out.
Zapdos, the electric pokemon. Zapdos is a legendary bird pokemon that has the ability to control electricity. It usually lives in thunderclouds. It gains power if it is stricken by lightning. While it is flying, it makes crackling and snapping noises from its electric abilities. There is only one of its kind known of and it's never been seen before by any researcher of any kind. Please wait, updating more data on the legendary pokemon to pokedex files…
It was then that I saw an image of the zapdos appear on screen from what my pokedex recovered. So no electric attacks should be used against it then, or else it'll just recover its power. That doesn't mean I can't defend with it, but I'll still have to be careful, Amber'll have a hard time with this match up, but if I have all my pokemon fighting together, I bet we'll have a chance!
The zapdos then chose that moment to strike and sent a bolt of lighting stronger then any I'd ever seen before coming right at my team. I gapped at the powerful attack, but quickly pulled myself to together. "Counter it you guys! All together! Fire blast, thunder, shadow ball, silver wind and dragon rage!"
A brilliant wave of power flew from our corner on the ground of red, yellow, silver, purple and black. The five attacks mixed together into a single large sphere of explosive power that was hit directly with the zapdos's lightning. Upon impact the six attacks turned white and exploded, sending items and bodies flying all around. Dust was whipped up into the air, making it impossible to see. I was thrown to the ground with my team and the zapdos was as well.
Regardless of that fact, I pushed through the remains of the blast as it was over in no more then a second, I was well enough to walk even after the landing I took. I could feel the strain and echo of pain in my broken left arm. Even though I didn't land on it, the pain was still there.
All my pokemon quickly rose to their feet; there was no way in hell that one blast would be enough to stop a legendary bird of Zapdos' caliber. That and it has a kid here. It's fearful for its child and wants to protect it as well as its friends and home, it thinks us to be enemies, it's fearful of humans. How much has Team Rocket really ruined all the lives of these pokemon?
The very pokemon that we were worried would attack us once more suddenly made an appearance and diving through the cloud of dust. Its body ran head first into Amethyst's awaiting arms that caught its wings and preventing it from escaping, other then its beak perhaps. It began to peck away at Amethyst, but when it saw she wasn't budging, I saw its beak almost take on a sort of drilling motion and then began to peck at my shiny charizard again. I pulled out my pokedex to see that the move was called 'drill peck', a move that was only learned by Zapdos' and very few other flying types.
"Chalcedony, Amber, both of you use iron tail on it!" Metallic tails flew in the air as my two smaller pokemon raced forward to leap over Amethyst and send their silverish tails smashing down on the enraged pokemon's back. It cried out and fell to the ground and out of Amethyst's reach, long enough for her to jump back and be positioned again for another fight should it come.
And I knew it was. The creature pushed itself off the ground and screeched at us before it raced off the ground and tried to penetrate our defenses again. This time, it went for Ruby. She drew her arms before herself to guard from the attack as its drill peck attack was aimed at her, and I knew that wasn't favorable match up, bug types and flying don't work out so well. The two sides met and a saw on metal sound reached my ears. Ruby wouldn't fair long against this match up…
"Zircon, Amethyst, dragon rage and fire blast!" The large blast of red, black and purple left the mouth of my tiny dragon while Amethyst's body for some strange reason received those strange glowing images on its skin and from her mouth came that bright white fire that absorbed Zircon's attack entirely, still enveloping its pure white color, and Ruby only had a moment to push back the zapdos and leap out of the way as the attack enveloped the legendary bird whole. The attack brought Amethyst down to her knees and she held her fist on the ground to stay up. A single eye was cracked open at the enemy as she was reduced in power from that attack. I still had yet to know what that move was that drained her of all her energy that seemed to come out every time we were in danger or had an extremely powerful battle on the line. But it was also a dangerous move that left Amethyst very venerable; I didn't want her to be hurt or vulnerable to an attack from the zapdos and no way to defend herself.
Amethyst managed to rise to her feet with the help of Ruby to lean on just as we watched the furious electric pokemon push the rubble off itself and glare at Amethyst. I saw it falter when it tried to move however and I noticed its wings were burned while its leg was at least sprained and it hopped around on the other leg before it pushed through the pain and rose into the air again. Its eyes were set on me behind all my pokemon and it dived at me with another screech that shattered the air that reached our ears.
With my ears held to hold off the loudly pulsing sounds that were trying to destroy my ear drums, Amethyst threw Ruby toward me, pushing both of us out of the way and she used her rage attack to give her power and that dark aura which she used again to hold the zapdos back. She was able to push the zapdos back, but it came right back at her using the momentum of Amethyst's throw to power its speed and crashed right into her, sending her flying back before us.
"Amethyst!" I tired to rush out to her, but I felt the side of Ruby's blade be trusted into my chest and she pulled me back against her, taking us further away from Amethyst. I struggled against my bug pokemon but her grip was stronger then I'd ever felt it before. Tear slipped down my face as Amethyst's body got smaller with the larger distance between us. Ruby's arm never gave way in strength, but it shook in fear and worry. I felt her tears fall down onto my back and shoulders.
Still I fought to get to her though, to get to my first precious gem. I froze when she looked back at me with a soft smile. "Rhu…" she told me. "Rhu rhuu…"
She was still begging me to leave, still asking me to save myself over her. I felt my breathing shake along with my body; I felt everything get hot, like I was in a molten lair.
Without warning my foot raced back behind me and hit the soft part of Ruby's ankle that wasn't protected by her strong green armor. She cried out in pain and her arm drew back, slicing the sling that kept my arm in place and cutting the top of the cast off my arm, effectively releasing my broken appendage from the device. My legs hit the floor and I heard several cries as I sped back toward Amethyst. Another screech caught my attention at the side and zapdos extended its undamaged talons at me and I dove out of the way before pushing myself back to my feet and landing next to my fallen pokemon. She looked up at me in surprise before I latched my arms around her neck and her head ended up in my lower chest.
"You idiots…" I sobbed, my tears fell on the back of her neck and she stilled while the shrilling zapdos flew around us in circles overhead. "Didn't I just tell you I wasn't leaving my family behind?"
Amethyst was silent as she listened to me, but regardless of that, she tried to move her head out of my grip, but my strong grip refused to allow her to do that. "I told you once already Amethyst, I'm not leaving you, now what part of that and that we're family until the bitter end do you not understand?"
My charizard stilled under my sobs and I felt her wings slowly wrap themselves around me. I released her enough so that she could look up at me. Her amethyst colored eyes glazed up to me in absolute admiration. "I love all of you guys, and if one of us doesn't make it out, then we all go back in and get them out, no matter who it is or what's happened, no matter what we try to tell them to do, even if it means they'll be safe. It doesn't matter if we not all together!" Amethyst lowered her head from my eyes and I hugged her head back to me again. "What part of that don't you guys understand?"
An angry cry suddenly alerted me to the problem we were still facing. The zapdos dove in closer to us and had its talons extended, ready to take a life, and it wasn't about to be my pokemon.
"Leave my family alone you stupid bird!" The zapdos halted in its tracks and its eyes widened when it heard my words. "We're sorry if we disturbed you and what not, but that doesn't give you the right to outright kill us!" It blinked at me and its chest heaved as it stared at me with clouded eyes. "I don't know what humans have done to you in the past, but we mean you no harm, so please stop hurting my family!"
The bird almost looked like it was going to for a second before something dawned on it and it screeched again, raising its burned wings to the ceiling and diving down at us in a plunge with its beak drilling again. I closed my eyes and covered my body over Amethyst as much as I could before I heard many cries, and a crash into the ground. I opened my eyes and through the quick haziness they gave me, I saw no red, no blood. I felt like nothing was hurting from the adrenaline pumping in my system, even my arm felt numb.
I breathed heavily as I lifted my head and turned around. My vision cleared and my eyes widened at the pokemon that stood before us with a thrown back zapdos standing up from its spot on the ground. It glared for a moment before it realized what was standing between us. Everyone, even the nervous little pokemon that stayed around the abandoned power plant crowded around the edges of the room and looked at the black and yellow pokemon that stood protectively before me.
"Electa electabuzz!" It shouted. "Elec electabuzz buzz!"
I remembered it, that was one of the pokemon that I saved from back at the Team Rocket base in Celadon City. I pulled out my pokedex and looked it up now that it was an okay time to do so. Electabuzz, the electric pokemon. It loves to feed on strong electricity. It occasionally appears around large power plants and so on. When a storm approaches, it competes with others to scale heights that are likely to be stricken by lightning. Electabuzz are rare in the region and have only been seen around the abandoned power plant on route ten.
"Electabuzz… your one of those pokemon that Team Rocket held prisoner and for slaves." The pokemon cringed at the memories, but he did look back at me and nodded with a grave face. It walked up to me and held out one of its hands to me, offering to help me up. I gladly took it and stood before I hurried back over to Amethyst and helped her stand as well. The electabuzz helped as well until Ruby came over and took over for it. "I'm glad to see you made it back. How are you feeling? Your injuries better now?"
"Elec!" it replied happily. "Electabuzz buzz elec."
"I'm glad." It was not only a relief to see that it'd made it back alright, but his wounds had healed and he had readjusted to his old life fairly quickly with minimal problems. The pokemon around us watched in awe as we were able to converse merrily. Even the great Zapdos had calmed itself enough and planted itself on the ground to watch us interact.
"Thanks for stepping in when you did Electabuzz, I thought we were gonna be Zapdos' next meal." I let out a big sigh and the electabuzz rubbed the back of its head.
"Electabuzz… elec." I laughed at its humbleness.
"Don't be so modest, I'm grateful, I actually never expected to see you again, not be saved by you. Buts it's extremely heart warming to see a familiar face."
"Electabuzz buzz elec?" It's questioned after a moment.
"Training," I replied quickly. "I just got my sixth badge in Saffron after I threw Team Rocket out of the city and I thought some training and some time away from the guys was in order, and this place was first on my list since I already knew the area around it. That and I also thought that maybe I could get a good fight in with Zapdos to see if our strength was comparable to that of a legendary pokemon." I rubbed the back of my head nervously. "But I think we came at the wrong time."
"Electa, elec electabuzz buzz elec," the pokemon replied to me. "Elec electabuzz electa elec buzz electa."
Its kid was almost taken by Team Rocket? No wonder it was so pissed when it saw me. Electabuzz then turned to the large legendary bird and began to speak with it, trying to convince it of our innocence and assistance to the pokemon world to ride it of Team Rocket. Zapdos listened intensely to the story that the electabuzz was telling it, how my brother, Alex and I helped it escape from Team Rocket's clutches and helped him heal before he was released to come back home. He'd even heard from other pokemon that I'd hurt Team Rocket many times, doing anything for all pokemons' safety.
While the two of them talked, I heard a high pitched cry to the side of me that was quite quiet. I turned to look and saw the baby zapdos looking up at me with its wide eyes. It must have been its first encounter with a human, other then Team Rocket who tried to capture it. It chirped happily at me, rubbing the side of it its face up against my body and hands, wanting to be petted. I sighed with a smiled and petted down its rough looking feathers, which in actuality were extremely soft and sleek. I gapped at them and looked at the small bird.
"Your feathers are softer then I thought they'd be, I can see a baby bird pokemon would want to curl into your parent's side." The baby chirped at me happily, quiet happy with the praising compliment. Its parent looked over at me worried as its kid seemed to enjoy itself and shoved me on the floor before sitting on top of me and taking my hat. "Hey!"
I chased the small electric bird around while it had a grin on its face and flew away from me and around me in circles. I caught a glimpse of its parent looking over at me worriedly before I saw it relax a bit more. I finally saw the bird coming back at me and I leapt into the air, grabbing onto the back of its wings. It suddenly spazed out since it couldn't fly and I turned over our bodies so that I took the hit on our backs. The bird quickly jumped up and begged me to play with it some more. Its parent's jaw was dropped and I took the moment to steal back my hat from the tiny bird pokemon. I blew it a raspberry and it blew me one back before it leapt back into the air and tired to take away my hat again and I held onto it like a vice grip. I pulled my hat out of its grip and the baby zapdos flew backwards from the sudden force, since it was pulling.
"Help her out you guys!" My smaller pokemon raced over and halted the zapdos' collision with the wall with their tails in the shape of a triangle to catch it. Even after being thrown back, the baby zapdos still bounced right back and wanted to play more.
Its parent called out and the bird suddenly lost its playful mood. It sulked and flew over to its parent's side while its parent looked at me.
It was then through many chirps and mildly high pitched cries that Zapdos explained to me that it was sorry for the way it had treated me. It explained in further detail that its child had been nearly taken while they were off on one of its first flight practices that it was captured and didn't feel comfortable with humans in the area, let alone with its kid. Though because I saved Electabuzz, I was an exception to this rule, and anyone that I trusted that Zapdos would also agree is trusting. It said that it would also allow me to stay here should I want to for training for however long I liked, and it meant more protection during that time for its kid should Team Rocket try looking here to find them. Though it suggested I go to a healer in my world first to get my appendage fixed.
When Zapdos said that, I was prone to look down at what he was looking at. My arm was doused if not entirely covered in blood that I hadn't noticed before until my adrenaline wore off and it began to sting. I hissed at the pain from not only my broken arm, but now more damage done to the top of the hand where the blood was coming from.
"I guess I wasn't exactly watching it when I got out of your blades Ruby." I nervously chuckled at that. "Sorry about that. You think you can take Amethyst and I to the pokemon center? I need Amethyst to be looked over real quick and healed up and I need a new cast and this wound looked at and sealed."
My bug pokemon easily nodded and I used my good arm to withdraw Amethyst inside before she fell over from exhaustion. Ruby picked me up with the dull side of her blades and I looked back at my smaller pokemon.
"You three be good while I'm gone and look after the baby zapdos and protect it and all the other pokemon here, okay? I should be back by nightfall at the latest, and hopefully they won't try to keep me there overnight." I pouted at that last part and my pokemon cheered before they all ran over and crawled over the baby zapdos, already playing with the energetic thing.
I sighed and looked up at Ruby. "Let's get this over with girl." She sighed too and took over into the sky through the hole that the parent zapdos used to get in and out of the power plant.
