Sorry for the delay.
I do not own Rookie Blue, but if I did…
6 Months Later
Andy heard her phone go off alerting her to a text message. She opened her phone and smiled. She put the dishtowel down and walked to the front door and opened it. She giggled as she saw Sam fighting with the Christmas tree coming up the stairs. "Do you need my help?"
Sam puffed out, "Nope, I got it all under control."
She stepped back, held the door and watched him struggle getting the tree into the apartment.
Shutting the door behind him Andy watched him carrying the tree over to where she had set up the stand. Seeing Sam struggle with the tree like this she couldn't help but giggle. He then stepped back and made sure that there were no bald spots showing in the front. He wanted everything to be perfect for the their first Christmas.
"Looks like you got a big tree there. I thought you were going for something small?"
"Nah, I saw this one and it was perfect." Sam looked around and smiled, "Where is little man?"
"Asleep. He should be getting back up in about an hour."
"That gives me time to put lights on the tree before he wants to help me."
She giggled again, "Yep, I have all the ornaments ready, the lights are tested and ready to go for you." She walked towards him and kissed him. "Do you think we are going to have to put the tree in the play pen to keep him out of it?"
"No, I think he will be just fine. I mean it a Christmas tree, nature and all. Just put the breakable ornaments up on the top half where he can't reach."
"If you say so, I am going to start fixing dinner."
She watched from the kitchen as Sam put the lights on the tree. Just as Sam finished she heard Grayson fuss over the baby monitor. Andy wiped her hands off onto the dishtowel and headed to get him.
Andy walked to Grayson room and opened the door to see him standing there in his crib with his arms up. "Hey little man, did you have a good nap?"
"Up, Up pease."
Once the little man was changed, Andy took him with her to the living room. Over the last few months she and Sam had developed a routine with her son, that made her almost forget that they weren't a real family yet.
Sam turned to greet them showing off the tree. He quickly turned on all the lights to show Grayson.
Grayson was so excited to see the tree all sparkly and bright. He clapped his hands and tried to push out of Andy's hands. She set him down and watched him walk over to Sam and the tree.
"Hey buddy, do you like the tree?"
Grayson giggled and tried to touch the tree. But once he had his chubby little hands wraped around a branch, he quickly pulled it back and gave Sam a face that said it all.
"Its ok, it's a Christmas tree."
Grayson continued to eye the tree.
"See, he doesn't like the needles. So I don't think he is going to touch it."
"Ok, but when he pulls it down on himself, I am calling you." The timer on the oven went off and Andy turned to look at the oven, " Dinner is ready."
Sam scooped him up, nodding towards Andy, "Mommy made dinner, let's eat."
Later that night, Sam and Andy sat on the sofa gazing at the tree in the dark; Grayson had long gone to down for the night. Andy took Sam's hand, "Thank you, Sam. Thank you for everything."
Sam leaned in and gave her a gentle kiss on her mouth. "My pleasure" he whispered in her ear.
Andy turned to face Sam, criss crossing her legs and putting her hands in her lap. ""Can we talk gifts? I would like your input. And you know, make sure you don't spend you whole pension on Grayson."
"Sure."
"I want to get Grayson a cozy coupé but I can't decided between a cop car or the truck? I know that Brad is getting him a fire truck and one of those fireman's hat. Traci is getting him more tools for his tool bench you got him for his birthday and the rest of the gang is getting him clothes or something to play outside with. What do you think?"
Sam frowned at her and all he could think of was, Grayson is not going to be a fireman.
"Sam, are you paying attention to me?"
"Yeah, I was just thinking he needs more cop stuff if Brad is going to bring the fireman stuff. Please, does he really think little man is going to even think about being a fireman?"
Andy playfully smacked him on the arm, "That is all you got out of that statement is that Brad is pushing the fireman stuff. He isn't even two; I doubt he understands Sesame Street much less what career field to go into. What if he wants to be a doctor, a singer or even a teacher? His options are unlimited."
"That's fine and dandy. I am still getting him a cop car, a badge and a hat though. That way he has at least the option to choose the right career." He teased her. But when he realized his joke hadn't taken, he added with a exaggerated sigh "Since you want something more neutral, how about a cozy coupé truck? You know how much he loves my truck."
"He loves your truck because he sits higher and can see everything." Andy smirked at him.
"Yeah, Yeah, don't bust my bubble. The little man loves my truck."
Two days later
Sam had just dropped off Grayson at daycare when he heard the call from dispatch in his take home car, asking for a supervisor. He grinned knowing Andy was the night shift supervisor and would be missing their morning breakfast hand off. Sam looked at the bag that was sitting in the passenger seat. Thinking about all the times it had been sitting there. It was one of these things. With Andy on nights and himself on days, he found it hard how little they saw each other. So he would make her breakfast and bring it in with him. He would make her a breakfast and bring it in. She would eat it at his desk as they talked over what had happened the night before and talked about Grayson. Sam turned the car towards the address that dispatch gave for a supervisor.
As Sam climbed out of his car, he scanned the scene in front of him looking for something he could do to help. He saw Epstein and Diaz with a sorry excuse for a man handcuffed between them. The three of them seemed to be listening to Andy.
As he approached the group, he heard the handcuffed guy screaming, "I have to go to pee."
"Sir, you need to do a field sobriety test first. You ran over two newsstands and took out three parked cars. You need to blow in this Breathalyzer, tell us what your name is or produce your wallet and then we can all be on are way."
The guy continued to scream, "I have to pee. I can just turn around here and I will be ok."
Dov saw people walking up to what used to be their unharmed car. He pulled his hands out of his pockets and informed his colleagues, "I am going to go give them the bad news."
Andy nodded and saw Sam approach, "Detective Swarek, what brings you out on the streets on this cold dark morning?" She smirked as he eyed the drunk guy Diaz was holding up.
"I thought since you were called out I would bring you your breakfast, just incase I miss you. I also was being a busy body on my way in and wanted to see what was up."
Unnoticed by the officers the drunk guy had managed to unzip his pants and began urinating right there in the middle of the street. Andy jumped to the side as Chris hollered,"There is a lady present dude."
Sam chuckled and moved his feet so the drunk guy would not water his shoes by accident.
The drunk guy sighed and zipped himself back up, "that is much better. My name is Juan Huleo."
Diaz shook his head, "Yeah Right! Come on Leaky, lets get you in the car. Andy, just meet us at the station."
Andy turned to Sam, "let me follow you to get my breakfast. I have one more stop before I catch up with Chris at the station."
Sam smiled, "No problem, see you at the station."
Two months later
Andy was running late again. She had promised everyone she would be at The Penny by 7, but Grayson and thrown a huge fit when she left him with Oliver's daughter Izzy. Now she was an hour late. She kept getting text messages from Tracy asking where she was and when she was coming. She was starting to get annoyed. Andy had had the last three days off and had been with Grayson the whole time. She just didn't understand why he was being so fussy and clingy. Or why Tracy was bugging her about when she was going to show up. Andy made sure if things went south that Oliver's daughter understood to call her and she would just end her night early. The more the messages came in the more she got frustrated.
Andy pulled into the parking lot of the Penny, found a parking spot in the packed parking lot and took a deep breath. It was the first quiet moment she had for herself in the last twelve hours or so. But she didn't let it last long, all too soon she grabbed for her purse. A quick glance in her mirror had convinced her that her hair and make up were as good as it was going to get and so she got out of the car. After checking her phone one more time, she sent out a message to calm Traci down, assuring her, that she would be there in just a minute.
When Andy finally opened the door, she found the bar quiet and no one but the bartender at the counter. With only the bar back lights on and twinkly lights on the ceiling above the bar top, the rest of the place was cast in darkness. Andy walked in confused and tried to adjust her eyes. "Liam what is going on?" She looked around, with the bar so dark it looked like no one was there.
Liam pointed to the end of the bar to where Sam stepped into the light of the bar top and Liam ducked out of view into the darkness.
Andy look confused at Sam, "Sam… what is going on."
She watched Sam take a deep breath and take her hand. "You know that Grayson and you are my whole world, right?"
Andy continued to look confused at him and quietly said, "Yeah?"
"I never thought I would ever, ever have this life until my whole world turned up side down when you tackled me. I learned so much about what I was missing and what I needed to add to my life. You complete me. Grayson completes me. I love you more than life itself and I want the two of you to be a permanent part of my life." Sam then kneeled on one knee and raised a small ring box open with a beautiful ring in it.
Andy gasped and put her hands covering her mouth, tears welling in her eyes.
"Andy, will you marry me?"
Andy got down on her knees in front of him and kissed him, quietly saying, "Yes, yes I will marry you."
Sam took the ring out of the box and put it on her finger. Neither of them noticed how the lights slowly came back on in the bar and how all their friends began clapping and hollering as Sam kissed her again. They both stood up and then Sam embraced Andy, picking her up off her feet, twirling her around. Sam beamed at everybody and hollered, "She is going to MARRY ME!"
Their friends all cheered for them.
