Chapter 16: Learning About Mogwais And Gremlins

"Mogwais, nocturnal creatures from the Underworld." Thatch read. The weekend was over and Casper and Thatch have returned back to Scare School, taking the mogwai and the cat with them of course. They were surprised when the Headmasters said that they could keep the mogwai. And they were pleased when Ra accepted the cat with no hesitation at all.

They were now in the library, looking up the mogwais.

"The book says that mogwais are known for their transformation." Thatch continued. "They transform into crazy green creatures known as... Gremlins." "Gremlins?" Casper repeated.

"Yeah. It says to avoid the transformation, they must NOT be fed after midnight." Thatch read the book. "There are rules for these mogwais. Rule number 1, do not feed it after midnight, they turn into crazy gremlins if you do. Rule number 2, keep water off of it, failure for this rule and they multiply. And rule number 3, keep it away from bright light, it kills them."

"Huh, sounds easy enough." Casper commented.

"Yeah." Thatch nodded.

"Hey guys, what'cha doin'?" Ra and Mantha walked in.

"We're looking up mogwais so that we can learn more about Thasper." Casper explained.

"Thasper?" Mantha was confused.

"Yeah, that's the name we gave our mogwai." Thatch added. "A combination of my name and Casper's name."

"Creative, considering he's gray and white." Ra nodded.

"So what did you find?" Mantha asked.

"Not much, just that we're not allowed to feed it after midnight, we can't get it wet, and of course, we can't let any bright light shine on it." Casper explained.

"Why can't you feed it after midnight and get it wet?" Ra asked.

"We can't get them wet because they'll multiply." Thatch closed the book on mogwais. "And we can't feed them after midnight because they'll turn into crazy green creatures called gremlins." Thatch put the book away and looked around the library. He was looking for another book about gremlins. He looked up to see Fly-Boy looking.

"Hey Fly-Boy!" Thatch called up to him. "Did you happen to see a book about gremlins up there?"

"Yezzzzs I zzzdid. Would zzzzyou like me tozzzz get itzzzz for zzzyou?" Fly-Boy asked.

"Yes please." Thatch called. Fly-Boy grabbed a book and dropped it down to Thatch.

"All You Need To Know About Gremlins." Thatch read the title. "Thanks Fly-Boy."

"Zzzyour welcomezzzzz." Fly-Boy called back, going back to looking through the books.

Thatch sat the book on the desk and started looking through the pages. "Gremlins, Gremlins, Gremlins. Ah! Here we go." Thatch finally pointed to a page. "Definition of Gremlins. These crazy green monsters start out as cute and friendly creatures called Mogwais. The transformation starts out when a Mogwai is fed after midnight. After the midnight feeding, the Mogwais go into gooey, green cocoons and sleep till morning. And then, at morning, they break out of their cocoons as crazy green Gremlins." Thatch looked up from the book. "Weird."

"Look!" Casper pointed to a rip in the book. "This must be where the picture of the gremlin used to be."

"But now it's gone." Ra said sadly.

"How will we know if Thasper turned into a gremlin when we don't even know what a gremlin looks like?" Thatch asked worriedly.

"We'll just have to make sure that he doesn't eat after midnight." Casper turned to Thatch. "That's called being responsible."

"Casper, I'm hurt." Thatch had a look of hurt in his face. "You say that like I'm not responsible."

"Well, hate to break it to ya' Thatch." Mantha began. "But when you were still a jerk, you didn't ever do anything to help."

"I promise that I am a changed vampire, and I will be responsible from now on." Thatch promised. "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye."

The three friends stared at Thatch blankly. He laughed nervously and his face reddened with embarrassment.

"Sorry. My parents have been making me watch My Little Pony with my little sister lately." Thatch explained.

"Oh." The other three nodded in understanding.
