Summary: Ferb seems a bit too cool, too collected, too knowing of what was going to happen before it does. What if Ferb had come from a future where things didn't turn out that well? Doesn't matter, Ferb is back to save the universe. Will he succeed? Or fail?
Disclaimer: I don't own Phineas and Ferb... I do own my memories of the series though! Hah!

Chapter 2:
He hasn't exactly thought about changing the things that happened before he became a Flynn-Fletcher. If he had, he probably still wouldn't have done anything.
But does that make him a bad son?
With newborn eyes, Ferb tried to watch the hospital until it faded into indiscernible blurriness against Lawrence's chest. The last place he might ever see his mother again.
Ferb barely remembers his father telling him what happened to her before the fabric of dimensions tore at the seams.
Anita Fletcher had a complication while giving birth. She hadn't complained of any pains- just that she was feeling weak. Her doctor waved Lawrence's concerns off- that they were the after effects of the pregnancy. But Anita didn't recover. Afterwards, her doctor supposed that she had overstressed herself and caused internal bleeding during one of the contractions.
It was something that Ferb had no chance to change, since he would have had no control over the event even if he had travelled to just before his birth.
His father settled him in a car booster seat with shaky hands. Fastening the belt, and closing the car door soon after.
Ferb fell asleep to the movement of the car.
His first goal was reliable motion. He needed that the most out of everything else, so he wriggled, squirmed and reached every chance he got, and put everything else off. The baby didn't even bother listening to the meaning of the words his father cooed at him.
Which had to come back and bite him on his lily-white ass.
He was plopped down in front of a pediatrician.
"So what's up with the little man?" A blond woman asked before she watched Ferb rock himself upright with surprise. "Oh."
Ferb was glad that he had grown out of being a motor mouth. Being a child with little to say was better than a child with an adult's vocabulary. He still wished his teeth would grow in soon. His lisp was terrible and there was only so much baby food he could eat before rebelling.
It was only when his teeth did start to grow in that he wanted to take it back. The pain was indescribable, and he was sure that he could live on mashed-up foods for the rest of his life if he didn't have to go through the rest of his teeth pushing past his gums.
Ferb was sure he sighed in relief when his father stuffed a chilled biting ring into his mouth. He gnawed on it.
That was so much better.
His second goal was an improvisation on his part. Diaper changes were degrading and had to go. Ferb stared up at the toilet. The rim of the toilet was higher than his head. He was going to get up there and pee somehow! He crawled away from the bathroom in search of building materials.
He ended up making a set of stairs out of books from the bottom of the bookshelf and an unattended ball of yarn.
Now all he had to do was sit on the edge to poop without falling in. That would be embarrassing if his father had to fish him out of the toilet bowl. Not to mention a bath afterward- which was his next objective to have self-reliance in.
He noticed his father was going out more often in the evenings. He was also coming back later. This led to interacting with the babysitter more, and while that was fine with him, Ferb knew it was only a matter of time before his father would find Linda.
Unfortunately, his current girlfriend was not going to last, and neither would the next one.
He never knew how much fun being an enabler was. He had been playing with Phineas for close to an hour and they had already managed to fix Candace's doll set that they had broken accidentally before. They had even been able to automate the dolls to wave and move a little. It was a great improvement from sticking the broken ends together with edible glue, like Phineas had done after Ferb stormed off in frustration.
He remembered there had been a car accident sometime during the time one of their neighbors had been moving in. A kid had died, and that was all he had really paid attention to. He didn't even remember the date. He had been holed up in his room at the time, refusing Linda as his mother because he never had one before, and didn't need one then. Phineas had been a little more upset since he had played with the kid before.
Well, he certainly hadn't been hiding in his room this time. In fact, he and Phineas were playing with little Isabella on their front lawn when the beach ball they had been throwing about had gotten caught by a strong gust of wind.
Isabella chased after it, not realizing that a car had just taken a hard turn onto their street. She was the only one to not notice how the car sped down the road. Phineas, for all his intelligence, wasn't as coordinated as he was, and tripped over his own feet in his haste to stop their new neighbor.
Luckily for both of them, he tackled her to the ground just short of the sidewalk, and their ball exploded under the pressure of the car driving by.
The car didn't stop. It rounded a corner and was out of sight a moment later.
Ferb rolled off Isabella to check on her. She wasn't shifting all that much, and he was worried that he had hurt her in his attempt to save her. Phineas was there, checking on the girl just as he was, and Isabella woke up. She looked around, probably spotting the popped ball the few feet away from where she was.
She lurched upwards and flung her arms around his brother thanking him over and over.
The brothers stared at each other over Isabella's shoulder, not sure what to do. Then their parents rushed outside.
She didn't let go of Phineas for a long time.

Also, I've got a poll on my profile of which story I should focus on updating next, so if you like this one, go on over and give COLLECTED a vote.
