CHAPTER 7: WHAT WOULD YOU DO
Kairi groans as she shifts on the sofa in Mami's apartment. After a few seconds her eyes slowly open. After blinking several times, she sits upright and stretches out her arms, both hands closed. After loosening her muscles, she brings up her right hand in front of her. She opens up her hand, revealing the Dreamsphere. Kairi pushes off the sofa with her left hand in order to stand up. A second later, she places the Dreamsphere in her pocket.
"Good morning, Kairi," Mami greets her from behind.
Kairi turns around with a smile, "Good morning." Kairi notices something. She closes her eyes, and starts to sniff the air. Kairi opens her eyes with a smile, "Is breakfast ready, already?"
"Not yet," Mami replies with a smile, "Should be done in about five minutes."
"Okay," A thought then occurs to her, "Oh yeah, you don't have school today, right?" Mami nods her head in response. "So what are your plans for the day then?"
"Oh, I plan to catch up with my studies before going on a Witch hunt with Homura tonight."
"Makes sense. Got to keep up those good grades, right?"
Twenty minutes later, the girls finished their breakfasts. "Say Kairi," Mami starts to say, "I know it's not any of my business but I'm just curious, where are your friends?"
"My friends?" Kairi asks, eyes blinking several times.
"Yes, I mean you became a Magical Girl in exchange for being able to help them."
"Well…" Kairi trails off, before looking down. A small smile slips on her face, "They travel a lot. They go to places I can't even start to imagine. Sometimes, I just can't believe the things they've seen or what they did there."
"Do you miss them? I mean, you don't have to stay here, you can always leave just so you can see them again."
"That's true. But the truth is, I don't know where they are. Well I do know where one of my friends are at. But the other…" Kairi trails off, closing her eyes.
"Is this other friend someone special?"
Kairi smiles in response, "Yes, he is. After some things happened with another friend of ours, he decided to go and set things right. I wanted to come along, but I couldn't because I probably would have gotten in the way."
"Get in his way?" Mami asks.
"Well, it's true. The work he does, I would only hold him back. However, we made a promise that day. I gave him a lucky charm I made, and told him he has to give it back to me. That promise, is something I would never forget, nor the words I said to him."
"What did you say?" Mami asks softly, looking at her with curious eyes.
"Wherever you go, I'm always with you." Kairi looks back up to Mami. "After that, I waited. Both for him and our friend. It would have been a year later before we saw each other again. But each day that passed, I wanted to find him again." Kairi places a hand on her chest. "One day, I was able to leave home, in search of him. Though it didn't go how I wanted it to go, I was still able to see him and our friend. After that reunion… we all managed to find our way back home. And…just as we promised, he gave me back my lucky charm," Kairi says, looking up towards the ceiling. "Being home, together with my friends, was the happiest I've ever felt. But then they had to leave again. And I gave him the charm once again, to ensure that he'll come back home safe and sound. It was some time afterwards that I decided to help them." Nothing is said for a few seconds before Kairi looks back at Mami, "And so here I am, helping you guys with the Witches."
Mami smiles, "That is quite a story." Mami close her eyes, "I can see why you want to help them. I'm sure that you can truly make your wish come true."
Kairi nods. "Well, think I'll head out." Kairi stands up and walks to the door. Just as she reaches for knob, she stops, recalling what Namine had talked to her about last night. Mami and the others will soon go through another cycle of pain and suffering. Remembering about Homura's warning of telling the others about what the Soul Gems truly are; Kairi reasons that there is a connection with these two facts. "I have a question," Kairi says with a solemn voice after looking back at Mami. "If… you were to discover some horrible truth. Something you were better off not knowing…" Kairi closes her eyes for a few seconds before looking back at Mami, "What would you do?"
Mami is slightly taken back by Kairi's question, because she never thought of something like that before. "Well…" she says before trailing off, looking toward the floor. A second later, she looks back up, "I guess it depends how much it would affect me."
"I see."
"What made you ask that type of question?"
Kairi smiles, shaking her head, "Nothing important. I guess I'm just curious that's all." Nothing is said for a few seconds, "Well, see you around." Kairi says before opening the door, leaving the building.
The sun shines brightly over Mitakahira City. Kyoko walks down a main street in the city. Kyoko is merely staring slightly at the ground, more focused on the thoughts in her head. Kyubey has no idea who that guy is, huh? She keeps on walking down a street passing an older couple heading the opposite direction. She takes out a red box from her pocket. After opening the box, revealing the contents of a bunch of pocky sticks. She takes one out places it in her mouth, with the stick pointing out. It's only a matter of time…
Flashback (Four Days ago)
Kyoko was walking in a small alley on her turf, her ruby-colored soul gem giving a bright red glow. Kyoko smiles as the gem glows brighter. She approaches another alleyway to her right. Before she even reaches it, the gem suddenly stops glowing. Kyoko looks at her Soul Gem, mouth wide opened. "You've got to be kidding me! This is the third time you decided to go out on me tonight!" Before she could think of anything else, she hears a pair of footsteps approaching. She looks up, on at that moment a boy walks from the intersecting alley.
The boy has silver hair, appears about two to three years older than her. He wears a white sleeveless, unzipped vest with yellow trimmings at the hems of the collar and the bottom, over a black zipped, sleeveless shirt. He sports blue long jeans, with a black belt around the waist and white and gray shoes. The boy's eyes are closed; face looking down towards the ground. After completely leaving the other alley, he stops. He lifted his head towards Kyoko, opening his eyes, revealed to be blue. Nothing is said for a few seconds. "You're a Magical Girl, aren't you?"
Kyoko is taken back. "W-What are talking about?" she said with a nervous smile. Hoping that this boy is just playing around and does not know a thing about Magical Girls.
The boy shifted his gaze towards the item in Kyoko's hand, "That's a Soul Gem, right?"
Kyoko stiffened. She regained her composure after a second; showing off a serious face, "How'd you know about that?"
"I have my sources," the boy said with closed eyes as he puts a hand in his pocket, shuffling for something. After a second, he took something out, hidden in his fist. "Here, catch," the boy says while he tossed something towards her.
Kyoko caught it with her free hand. She opened her hand, palm facing up, and is astonished what he gave her; a Grief Seed. "Where did you get this?!"
The boy shrugs, "Just now. That Witch wasn't even a challenge."
Kyoko is taken back. She glared as him, grinding her teeth, "Is this the only Witch you hunted tonight?"
"Let's see…" the boy said, crossing his arms. "I already taken out a bunch of them earlier in the day. For the past few hours, three, including the one I just beat.
Kyoko's eyes flashed open dangerously. Her glare gained more power. "So, you're the one…" she says before her Soul Gem activates, transforming her to her Magical Girl form. She summoned her spear, twirled it before going into her battle stance, "You're the one that's been taking all my kills!"
"Your kills?"
"That's right! This is my territory! And I'll take all of the Grief Seeds you have!"
The boy is hardly impressed. Nothing is said for a few seconds. "Sorry, I don't feel like fighting you." He said before turning around, walking away.
"You're not getting away!" she says as she charges at him. The boy stops, looking over his shoulder. Kyoko moves in for a thrust, aiming straight at the boy's head. Just as the spear is about to pierce his skull, the boy nimbly moves his head out of the way, eyes closed. This aggravated her even more. She swung at him several times, the boy dodged each strike effortlessly. Kyoko went for a horizontal strike, but the boy backflipped out of harm's way. Kyoko cried out, thrusted the spear towards the boy's chest. Just at the moment it would impale him, the boy disappeared in a blur. Kyoko's simply stared in that space. Her eyes widened as she realized where the boy was; behind her, his back facing against hers. She turned around for a sweeping blow. Her spear knocked out a pipe segment on the wall, sent it soaring into the air. The boy jumped, dodging her attack. The boy twisted in the air and landed a few yards away from her, next to the pipe that landed before he did, facing towards her direction. "Stop trying to run away!" she yelled out, swinging her spear.
The boy put a fist on his waist, "Hmph. Looks like you won't take 'no' for an answer." Kyoko glared in response. The boy sighs, "Fine. How about a deal?"
Kyoko slightly released her tension, "A deal?"
The boy nodded, "If you can hit me once, I'll tell anything you want to know? But if I hit you first, you leave me alone, deal?"
Kyoko continued to glare. Just who does he think he's messing with… Kyoko thought to herself. She grudgingly nodded, accepting the terms.
"Alright then." The boy said. He looked down at the pipe segment on the ground. He bent down, picked up the pipe, and stood ready with the pipe in front of his face, horizontally. "Come get me."
Kyoko has had it. She questions herself that he really thought that would be enough to protect him. She charged in, crying out for a powerful strike. She raised the spear above her head and brings it down on the boy. Instead of the boy disappearing or the feeling of cutting through him, there was a sound of two metals clanging against one another. Kyoko's eyes are wide open. The pipe the boy held is now covered by a dark aura, in a shape of a sword. The boy smirked before he repelled the spear away, pushing her off balance. The next instant, he was right in front of her. A dark aura surrounded his hand. Swiftly, but gently, placed the hand on her stomach. A moment later, Kyoko is pushed into the air for a few yards by a pulse of dark energy. She tumbles into the ground for a few more yards.
As Kyoko attempts to push herself up, the boy tosses the pipe towards Kyoko. The pipe clangs on the pavement several times before rolling to a wall. "Now you know I have no interest in fighting you," he says. The boy turns around, "Stay out of trouble, you hear me?" He started to walk away just as Kyoko finally gets up on her knees. She glares at him. What aggravated her is that she has been doing this job for more than a year, and then this boy appears, and managed to wipe out more Witches within such a short timeframe.
Kyoko grasped her spear, which was lying on the ground, before she sprinted towards her defenseless target. "Where do you think you're going?!" She cries out just before she swings at him. The boy doesn't seem to be paying any attention. Just as her attack is about to hit her mark, the boy disappeared in a blur again. Kyoko's eyes stare at the space with wide eyes. Her eyes widen even more when she felt a sharp tinge on the back of her neck. The boy is behind her again, and this time he has an actual weapon, touching the nape of her neck.
"Word of advice. If someone says they don't want to fight, chances are they are completely above your level. Don't know about you? But I've been playing this type of game far longer than you can imagine." Kyoko does not respond, she just stands there. "If I were you, I suggest you head to a place called Mitakahira City."
Mitakahira… Kyoko thought, Isn't that Mami's territory. A bead of sweat started to move down her face
"There are no more Witches here for you to hunt here." The boys said, leaving the girl speechless.
"Wh-What do you mean?" she asked nervously after a few seconds. Nervous of what the boy said could possibly be true.
"I do not sense any more Witches or Familiars in this city. Since there is nothing left here, I'll take my cue and leave. I doubt we'll meet again but if we do…" The girl stiffened, waiting for what the boy has to say, "I hope you will clean up your act a bit." And with that Kyoko no longer felt anything on her neck. She swiftly turned around, only to see that the boy can no longer be seen.
Present day
"Just who is he?" Kyoko mutters to herself. When she looks up she spots Kairi on the other side of the street. Kyoko just catches her walking into an alley. Kyoko stands there, eyeing the alley suspiciously, "Now what is she up to?" she asks herself. After crossing the street, she goes into that same alley. Ten minutes later, she is navigating her way through the alleys, trying to find Kairi. She is about to give up when she heard something.
"Command Cards?"
Kyoko recognizes the voice as Kairi's. It came from the alley up ahead. She walks in front of the alley before quickly darting back, hiding behind the wall. She peeks her head outside, and finds Kairi standing around. Kyoko could hardly hear what is going on, but she can tell that Kairi is talking to someone on the right, but she couldn't see who she is talking to. A minute later, Kairi stops talking all of a sudden, Kyoko quickly retreats her head back behind the wall, fearing that she got noticed. After she hears Kairi talking again she peeks her head out again. She sees Kairi taking some money out of a wallet and extends the cash-filled hand towards the wall. She turns back towards Kyoko's direction, prompting the girl to hide again. A minute later she can hear footsteps. Lucky for Kyoko, the sound was getting farther away, meaning Kairi is not walking in her direction. After she doesn't hear them anymore, she peeks once more, this time Kairi is not in sight.
Kyoko moves to stand before the alleyway. She walks ahead, keeping an eye out for whoever was talking to Kairi. Kyoko notices something on the ground ahead of her. Kyoko walks up to it. The item is a gold card facing down on the ground. Kyoko picks up the card, staring at it for a few seconds. When she turned the card over, she is surprised that the writing on the card is completely foreign to her. In the middle of the card is an engraving of a sword. Kyoko wonders if this is one of those 'Command Cards' Kairi mentioned. Out of curiosity, Kyoko puts some of her magic into it, and the card responds with a bright glow. Kyoko sees a vision of herself, lunging forward, thrusting into something, and stops a few feet behind it. However, she continues this five more times, with the last lunge being faster and more powerful. After the vision is over, she finds the card in her hand is no longer. However, Kyoko has a feeling what happened; the card gave her a new technique. Kyoko smirks dangerously at the possibilities she can do with it.
Ten minutes earlier…
Kairi makes a turn in a maze of alleys. However, this is hardly a maze, considering Kairi knows her way around. After walking for about five yards, she turns to her right. Kairi looks down, finding Mog's gem. After touching it, the gem flares up. After a couple of seconds, Mog's projection appears. "Welcome, what can I do for you today, kupo?" the Moogle asks.
Kairi smiles, "Well, what sort of potions do you have on you?"
"Let's see… I got normal potions, Hi-potions, a few Elixers around. What do you want, kupo?"
"Hmm… How about ten Hi-Potions right now?"
The Moogle tilts his head, "You don't know any healing magic, kupo?"
"Oh, I do. These are for my friends, when they need them most."
"Okay, No problem, kupo." After giving the Kairi the price, Kairi makes the appropriate payment. Afterwards, a small bag appears in front of her. "By the way, how's that staff working, kupo?"
"It's going great. If I didn't know better, I would think that my friend has been practicing magic for months."
"That's great, kupo," the Moogle responds with a nod. "By the way, are you interested in buying any more weapons, kupo?"
"No, not really."
"I see, kupo. Well, too bad, I guess you won't be interested in our super, secret project, kupo."
"Project?" Kairi asks with curious eyes.
"That's right. Since you're interested in magical weapons and items, I thought you would be interested in it, kupo. If not for you, then maybe for a friend, kupo."
"What are you talking?"
"Well, I won't go into any details… you know that staff is meant for beginners helps draw out their potential, right, kupo?" Kairi nods in response. "Well, what I'm working on doesn't only helps draw out that potential, even more than that staff, kupo. It can also multiply the power of the spells, kupo."
"Wow, that's amazing."
"You bet it is, kupo. However, like I said I'm still working on it, kupo." The projection crosses its small arms. "Say, have you heard of Command Cards, kupo?"
"Command Cards?" Kairi asks in a raised voice.
"There special cards that have been imbued with secret techniques and spells, kupo. All you have to do is focus on the card, and you will learn all sorts of powerful skills, kupo."
Kairi hums at this. Though it would cost money, it would be quite beneficial against the Witches and the future battles she would surely face after leaving this world.
"So, anything that I can learn?"
The Moogle nods, a second later a holographic pad appears between them, "Just put her hand there, and my system will determine which cards best suit you, kupo." Kairi puts her hand on the pad. The pad glows for a few seconds, and another holographic screen appears, listing the Command Cards available. Kairi carefully scrolls down the list. After a minute, she picked out four cards. Before she can say anything, Kairi has a feeling that someone is watching.
She looks to her right, only to see nothing. But after staring in that direction for a few seconds, she notices a small shadow in the intersection of alleys. Kairi questions who would be tailing her. She already called Madoka and Sayaka earlier today. Madoka plans on catching up with her homework and Sayaka was planning to visit the hospital again today. Knowing that Mami would be studying, she narrows it down to either Homura, Kyoko, or Kyubey. Considering the time of day it is, she can rule out its Kyubey's shadow. Kairi have thought about Homura, but reasons that Homura would walk up straight to her and demands an explanation.
Recalling that Kyoko stating that she will not get surprised the next time the meet, Kairi reasons that the person behind the building is Kyoko, spying on her to make sure of that. She turns back to Mog, "Say, can you show me a list of cards that would benefit someone using a spear?"
"A spear user, kupo?" Mog asks with a tilt. Kairi nods in response. A second later a second holographic screen pops up. One card caught her sight; the name is of a technique that Sora first learned on his first journey. She selects that one, before looking back at Mog, telling him she's done. "The total for this purchase is... Twenty thousand Munny, kupo!" Kairi nods, takes out the required amount in Yen. After the process is complete, five golden cards appear in front of her. After taking them, she says she is done shopping for the day. The Moogle replies "Have a good day, kupo!" The projection disappears. Kairi looks back in Kyoko's direction. Kairi smiles before walking in the opposite direction. Though she knows this is a big risk, she's hoping this could break the ice between her and Kyoko. Kairi stores four of her cards in her pocket, and having one other in her hand. She loosely drops it into the ground. Afterwards she makes a turn and navigates her way to the main streets.
The sun starts to set into the horizon. Kairi lays on the grassy bank near a river, eyes closed. After doing business with Mog, she decided to walk around a bit and take in the sights of Mitakahira City. After doing that for a couple hours, she decided to take a nap for a few hours. Kairi opens up her eyes. After stretching on the ground, she jumps back up on her feet. After getting back on the sidewalk on top of the bank, two girls are walking towards her, gossiping about something.
"Hey, I heard someone found another girl in an alley yesterday." A girl with short black hair said.
"Really," a girl wearing a school cap responds, "does it have to do with a strange person leading someone else to an alley or something?"
"Don't know? But I heard that someone saw a boy with a strange-looking sword hovering over her," Kairi heard that when the girls passed her by. One name immediately enters her head.
"A strange looking sword?"
"Yeah, though it's only a silhouette, the guy took a picture and it got published in today's newspaper."
Kairi got enough information and runs off to a nearby store, hoping they have a copy of today's issue. After securing an issue of the paper ten minutes later; she flips through the pages of the newspaper. Sure enough she found it. But like the girl describes, the figures in the picture are only silhouettes. The figure on the ground has to be the girl, directly above her is the unique weapon, which is pointing to the right. Though the silhouette on the standing figure on the left, holding the weapon, is hard to make out. She recognizes the sword's shape. The sword is no doubt a Keyblade. The exact shape of the Keyblade proves her hunch is right. "Riku…" she mutters softly. Kairi shakes her head, getting rid of the idea that Riku fell into the darkness again. She looks again at the picture, "Riku, what are you up to?" Kairi asks to herself softly.
Night has finally taken root; stars litter the dark-blue sky. Kairi walks on the main street. She is on her way back to Mami's place. "Kairi!" Madoka's voice reaches the said girl. Kairi turns around, seeing Madoka and in front of her is Kyubey. Kairi notices the look on Madoka's face.
"What's wrong?" Kairi asks worriedly as Madoka stops in front of her, putting her hands on her knees.
Have panting a few times, catching her breath, "It's, It's Sayaka. Sayaka is going to fight Kyoko!"
"What?" Kairi responds with a raised voice.
Kyubey looks up to Kairi, "If we are to stop them, we must hurry."
"Lead the way," Kairi said instinctively. Though she doesn't want to refer to Kyubey, she has no choice if she wants to stop the impending fight on time. Kyubey goes around Kairi. Kairi follows him, followed by Madoka. On the way, Kairi takes out her phone, dialing in a number and hope that she's available. After putting the phone to her ear, she hears the receiving phone ringing several times. Afterwards, Kairi hear's Mami's voice on the other end, "We got a problem, Mami."
As traffic goes back and forth on a busy highway, a unique pedestrian overpass, consisting of several bridges for an aesthetic touch when looked from above, about twenty meters above the highway. On the center bridge, Kyoko transforms and prepares to fight. Sayaka, who is facing her, takes out her Soul Gem. Just as the Soul Gem glows, Madoka calls out to her. Sayaka gets surprised, the Soul Gem immediately dims out. She turns her head back, seeing Madoka and Kairi next to her. "Madoka, Kairi…" Getting over her surprise, she turns back to Kyoko. "Stay out of this. This doesn't even concern you two."
"But, this can't be right." Madoka pleads.
"You certainly know how to attract friends!" Kyoko taunts.
Kairi steps up, "This has gone far enough, Kyoko. Just what is it do you have against Sayaka?" she says, walking up to the direct center of the line between the two combatants.
"Simple, she used her once in a lifetime wish to help mister rich boy get better. Magic and wishes like that always end up going bad."
Kairi narrows her eyes, trying to understand the situation. She already knows who Kyoko was referring to. Kairi recalls her conversation with Kyoko yesterday. Kairi remembers how Kyoko okays Kairi's wish, but rebukes Sayaka's wish. Kairi plays that conversation in head. She remembers that after accusing Kyoko of making a selfish wish, Kyoko was taken back before muttering something. At that point Kairi started to get an inkling, Is she… Is she talking from experience? Kairi thought.
"Get out of my way," Sayaka states, as she passes Kairi.
"Wait," Kairi says in a concerned voice, "There's no need to…"
"Stay out of it!" Sayaka snaps. "There's no way I'll forgive her. Especially that she threatened to hurt Kyosuke." Kairi is taken back by this. Kairi wants to stop this battle, but Sayaka is dead set on ending this feud.
Kairi's eyes widen slightly. "I see," Kairi says. "Just know that I tried to stop you," Kairi said before taking a few steps back.
"Kairi…" Madoka looks at her with wide eyes.
"So, shall we get started then?" Kyoko sneers as she readies for battle.
"I prefer that this fight doesn't occur at all," another voice calls from behind Kyoko. Kyoko looks back, seeing Mami and Homura standing behind her. Mami stares at Kyoko, "That is, if you don't want to turn back; both of you," she states using a stern, disciplinary tone.
"What's with all of you?!" Sayaka cries out. "I have to do this! I have to put an end to her right now!"
"It seems reasoning with you is pointless," Homura states before walking past Kyoko. "Very well, I'll fight you instead," this statement shocks all the girls.
The tension around the entire situation continues to build. Madoka keeps moving her head, wearing an expression that she can't take this anymore. She turns to Kairi, hoping she can find a way to diffuse the situation. "Kairi, can't you do anything?"
Kairi just stands there, looking at all the girls except Madoka, "I'm sorry. But this is something I shouldn't get involved in."
"What?"
"They have to resolve this on their own. I can't interfere," Kairi states. Though she doesn't want anyone to fight, she is powerless. She can try to force the situation to stop, but then she would truly be interfering with the affairs of this world.
Sayaka has been glaring at Homura since she offers to be her opponent, "Fine, then. You asked for it!" Sayaka declares as her Soul Gem lights up.
Madoka's eyes go wide. She closes them tightly before opening them up. At that moment she rushes towards Sayaka. "I'm sorry!" she cries out, taking the Soul Gem from Sayaka's hand and heads for the side of the bridge. She raises her hands and throws it over to the side. Homura's eyes go wide before she disappears. Kairi is just shocked of what just occurred.
Sayaka glares at Madoka. She stomps towards her friend, "What was that for Madoka?"
Just as Madoka tries to answer, Sayaka's face suddenly goes pale before limping forward, Madoka catching her. "Sayaka?" she asks.
"You shouldn't have done that Madoka," Kyubey states after perching on the rail. "No matter how much you feel, you shouldn't have thrown away her friend."
"What?" is all Madoka can mutter.
Mami and Kyoko both run up to them. Mami having concerned face. Kyoko also has a concerned face, but hers has a more curious look. Kyoko grabs Sayaka from the neck before raising her. Her eyes narrow before going with wide, "What the heck? She's dead!" Madoka slowly gasps at the fact. Mami covers her mouth with her hands, also gasping with wide eyes. Kairi looks down to the floor. After Kyoko puts down Sayaka's body. Madoka kneels down to her, begging Sayaka to wake up. Kyoko's eyes have are filled with fury. She turns to Kyubey, "What is going on here?!" Kyoko demands.
"This is due to the range of controlling your bodies up to 100 meters.
"What the heck are saying?" Kyoko yells out.
Mami looks at Kyubey with wide eyes, "Kyubey…" is all she can say, trembling in fear.
"This is a rare event, because you always have it on you." Kyubey answers.
"What do you mean?" Madoka asks, ready to break into tears. "You have to save Sayaka!"
Kyubey looks down before looking at her. "That isn't Sayaka. It is just an empty shell."
"What?"
"Like I said earlier, you just threw away Sayaka." All the girls, minus Kairi look at Kyubey with wide eyes. Kyoko, starting to understand the truth of the situation, touches her Soul Gem, which is imbued on her chest. Kyubey goes on to his explanation of stating that the girls have no chance of defeating a Witch with their normal bodies. So to complete the transformation, Kyubey reveals, that he takes the girls' souls and turns them into their Soul Gems. Kyoko, furiously demands of what Kyubey has done to them as she picks him up. Kyubey then tells them the 'benefits' and how it's better for them. Madoka can't hold the tears back anymore. Mami can't believe the truth of it all. Kyubey goes on explaining how humans react like this towards the truth, and he is unable to understand why they are always react about the placement of their souls.
Mami's eyes widen before turning to Kairi, who hasn't moved from the other side, "You knew about this?" Kairi continues looking down, her left hand over her right arm. All she could do was nod.
At that moment Homura appears. She places Sayaka's Soul Gem in her hand. The girls take notice. After a couple of seconds, Sayaka's eyes regain their color before she takes in a breath. Madoka gives her room for her to get up on her knees. She looks around eyes filled with confusion, with a slight hint of fear, "What? What just happened?"
Kairi stays in her position. Is this it… Kairi wonders before looking up at the girls, Is this where the cycle starts again? Kairi clenches her right hand. No…This time…I'll set things right. Kairi looks up, eyes full of determination. I won't let them suffer anymore. I'll find a way to break this cycle.
Riku's Log 6
An interesting rumor has recently caught my attention. Apparently bodies of dead girls have been found in alleyways and areas where not many people tend to go. These are likely areas that a Witch would dwell in while casting weaves of deadly mischief. These girls may all have been possibly Magical Girls. Yet, there are two common items that need to be addressed. One item is that nearly all of them have been found after a witness follows a mysterious figure. The second item is the timing. From what I've heard, a girl found in this situation in one city is found in another city around the same time interval.
Either this is an organized effort or something else is in play. I do not have much information on this mysterious figure. Another thing is why Magical Girls, is there some force that is trying to eliminate them. If this is a Witch's work, then their bodies shouldn't be discovered at all. My only assumption for now is that this may be the work of another Magical Girl. Though this is what I'm currently assuming, I have a feeling this may not be the case.
Why does the figure lead people to discover the girls' dead bodies? Perhaps the figure wishes for them to be given a proper funeral? Or is there some other ploy to get even more people killed?
In any case, I cannot help but wonder about Kairi. So far, she is keeping her identity as a Keyblade Wielder a secret, and passing herself off as another Magical Girl. If the threat is indeed from this world then I shouldn't be concerned too much. Besides, from what I recall of Kairi's progress from Yen-Sid, she has made friends with Magical Girls stationed in Mitakahira City. I am certain that they can handle anything thrown at them.
Author's Note: Chapter 7 now operational. Now that I got this out, I can focus on studying for midterms.
I do not know when I'll be able to get the next chapter up and running.
Until then, let me know about what you think of this story.
Enjoy your day.
