Opportunity
No.4- Mary Kozakura
"The world is surprisingly simple, but it's me who's bizzare."
That night, that girl had the same dream again. "Ahh, God, why? I'm sick of this already!" The white-haired girl cried out. Long thin arms grasped the boy by his neck and lifted him up. The girl watched in horror as the boy struggled. "No! Stop!" The girl screamed. She reached her hand out for the boy, but it was useless. The boy slumped to the ground, eyes wide open. He was dead. The girl let out a scream.
Mary Kozakura awoke. There was no boy in front of her. She was at home,in her bed, all alone. "That dream…again…? How many times has it been now?" She sat up slowly. Sunlight shone through the window. She could hear birds chirping in a distance. She climbed out of the bed and began her morning routine. "Who's that boy? He looks so familiar but…I have always been alone here." Mary pushed her thoughts about the dream to the back of her mind. "Being alone is sad." She thought. Occasionally she would she people in a distance. They never approached the house. "How does it feel like to be surrounded by people who acknowledge you? I wonder." She remembered a time when she wasn't alone, wasn't lonely. But it was a long time ago. Whenever she saw people, even from afar, she would get this strange feeling in her chest. Part of her was scared to approach the people. They would call her a "monster" and would beat her up. But at the same time, Mary didn't wish to be lonely. She wanted to be surrounded by people that she could call her "friends". But that was impossible, and she herself knew it. With a hardened heart, she resigned to loneliness, and spent her time living among "things".
Suddenly, she heard footsteps. "Huh? Where am I?" A voice?! That can't be! Humans had never come so near to the house before! A nervous thumping began in her chest. Then there was a knock on the door. "What should I do…?!" Mary said to herself in panic. This was an opportunity. An opportunity to not be alone anymore. Mary moved towards the door slowly. Everything around her seemed to slow down, as if the world was out of joint. It was so quiet she could hear the leaves rustling. One step towards the door. Mary blinked, and in the darkness she saw a silhouette of a small boy. Another step. She saw the silhouette of a taller boy. Another step. The boy was lying on the floor. Another step. The boy disintegrated like he was made of ashes and disappeared. Last step. Mary walked forward and placed her hand on the doorknob. Many thoughts raced through her mind in a fraction of a second. Opportunity? Loneliness? Friends? Death? Mary could hear the birds chirping as she turned the doorknob.
The sunlight was bright. In front of her stood a young boy, much shorter than she was. He wore a white hoodie. He looked up at her, and from beneath his hood, for a moment, Mary thought she saw a glint of red. "Ah, um. I'm sorry to disturb you, but I'm lost." The boy said politely, along with a shy laugh. Mary smiled at the boy. She knew it was an opportunity.
Author's note:
Hah aim sorry for not updating. I was lazy and I had no inspiration for Mary's story, so it became this thing. Its not very good I know lol. ,Mary isn't one of those characters I can "connect" with. School just started so I got the idea of loneliness from there. Sorry for the very random and boring plotline. If you have any ideas for the next chapter, Momo's chapter, please review or message me at my tumblr (Kirisako!) No one reads this orz. *Runs into the sunset*
