Chapter 19: No Going Back - Part 1
Sabrina's P.O.V.
"And here we go." Dad says, helping me stand up from the wheelchair. I was confided to that thing for two and a half weeks. I cautiously take a few steps, using Dad as support.
"Let me try alone Dad." I playfully suggest after a minute.
"Alright, but if you fall, don't expect me to help you." He snarks back in a just as playful tone.
"Kk Daddy." I say in a very girly voice. I take one step, then focus on my balance. I take three more steps, then almost fall. I know I sound like a child, but you try not walking for two and a half weeks, and then you see how easy it is to walk. The elevator opens at that moment.
"Hey babe." Chase calls, then Adam yells, "CANNONBALL!" and barrels into the living room. I fall over in surprise and Dad immediately runs over.
"I thought you weren't going to help me." I retort, getting to my feet.
"It's different with Adam attacks." He explains, "Adam!"
"What?" Adam asks, now lying on the couch.
"You- Never mind, just go to school." He declares and I head toward the door, "Not you."
"Aw come on!" I complain, plopping down in the chair.
Chase walks over. He gives me a kiss and a hug. "Don't worry. I'll see you later?" He says questioningly.
"Yeah." I sigh. He kisses the top of my head and walks out the door.
"Wait for me Chase! Don't abandon me like Bree did!" He shouts, running out the door after Chase.
.
Later...
I'm sitting on a stool in the kitchen, while Dad is at his work desk in the main room. He's on his laptop. I've finally convince him to let me change out of my sweatpants and sweatshirt. I'm now wearing yoga pants and a pink tank top, along with blue flats. I'm playing 'Angry Birds' on my tablet when Leo comes down the stairs holding a box of tissues.
"What are you doing here?" Dad asks, completely unaware of the fact that Leo is sick.
"I live here. I'm the one you didn't cobble together in the basement." Leo says in an 'I'm always right' tone.
"Hey!" I protest.
"Well, actually-" He starts.
"Ew. Dad. No." I quickly say.
"Anyway, I mean why aren't you at school?" He questions, and I don't want to hear Leo's explanation again.
"I have a head cold-" I don't hear the rest. My head spins violently and I get another vision.
"CHASE! ADAM! BREE!" I scream hysterically into the open air. Ocean spirals out at least 500 feet below and the ocean air makes my body shudder.
"Sabrina. It's not going to help." I hear Leo say. He gently pulls me back and I obey. I sit down and begin to sob. The door latches shut with a click.
When I can see again, Leo is standing over me.
"Are you alright?" He questions, but soon forgets about me when Tasha walks in.
"Donald, I think there's something wrong with your credit card." Tasha says. Leo and I both become worried at that moment. Leo helps me up. "When I went to buy groceries, it was declined." Leo and I speed across the room and settle next to Tasha.
"Declined. How could that be?" Dad asks. I bite my lip. This isn't going in a good place.
Of course, Eddy finds this a good time to make a joke. "Let me spell it out for you. She spent all your money!" He declares.
"Eddy!" I say, aggravated.
"I did not spend all his money!" Tasha snaps.
"What? Saving some for a facelift?" Eddy snarks. Leo and I have to grab Tasha's arms to keep her from killing Eddy's screen.
Dad doesn't take notice and instead types something into the computer. "This card is completely maxed out with purchases I didn't make." Dad says, his voice growing in confusion, "A plane ticket, a speedboat, a $1000 Shopping Spree- Sabrina?"
"It was Bree's idea!" I call and use Leo as a shield.
"A thousand dollars worth of hair gel and color contact lenses?" He continues, now with panic. We all stare at him, because he has made that purchase before.
"This time it was not me!" He states, putting his hands up in surrender.
"So what now?" Leo asks, rubbing the back of his head.
"Now," Dad says, "We track these IP addresses in the lab." He runs towards the elevator and gestures for us to follow. I grab my IPad and we follow him.
.
Later...
Dad is at the cyberdesk, while Leo and I at at our desks on our laptops. My desk only has my laptop, cell phone, notebook and tablet on it.
"Any luck tracing those hackers?" Dad asks, becoming fed up with tracing through the cyberdesk.
"No." Leo reports.
"All dead ends, Daddy." I report, ready to throw my laptop through the wall.
"These people really covered their tracks." Leo complains.
"I know." I answer, then Eddy appears.
"I don't have any fingerprints or evidence, but I drawn a police sketch of what I think the suspect looks like." He says, then displays a picture of Tasha with her mouth open and grimacing on his screen.
Dad ignores him and continues to go through the cyberdesk, but to no avail. "I can't access anything! All the contents of my cyberdesk have been wiped clean." Dad freaks. Then, the klaxon goes off. Dad picks up his IPad and shuts it off.
"This is worse than I thought. Every one of my facilities worldwide has been hacked! Every database!" Dad exclaims, throwing down the IPad onto my desk, "The entire infrastructure of Davenport Industries is gone!" The earth shattering news sinks in, "This is not some run of the mill computer hacker. This is obviously someone who hates me and wants to ruin my life."
"Well that could be anyone." Leo jokes. I glare at him, but I can't help but give a little chuckle.
"Alright." Dad says sternly.
"Back to the point." I say, "What are we going to do?"
"I'm gonna call my friend at the FBI." Dad says, pulling out his phone. I stand up, and pick up all the items on my desk.
"Wait you have a friend at the FBI?" Leo interjects, "Wow, that is so cool!"
"He's Dad's yoga buddy." I say.
"Suddenly not so cool." Leo states. I walk out of the lab yelling, "Yep."
