Part 2: Initiation

Chapter 9: Potential

"The DA asked me to represent the State in your mother's trial," She still wouldn't look at his face.

"Wait," He didn't understand what she said, or more, he didn't want to understand what she had just said, "What?"

"I'm going to take the job," Laurel said looking at her shoes, "It's a good opportunity for me. It gets me an in with the DA Spencer. It's great for my career."

"Damn it, Laurel," It was barely a whisper, then he looked at her with disgust and shouted, "THAT'S MY MOTHER!"

"YES," Laurel fired back, "YOUR MOTHER WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HALF A THOUSAND DEATHS IN THE GLADES!"

"Get. Out," Oliver sneered, "GET OUT MY GOD DAMN HOUSE! NOW!"

She left the house still refusing to look at Oliver's glaring face.

"What was that about?" Thea walked in at that moment, only having heard the yelling, not what they were saying.

"We need to go talk to mom."

"Thea, Oliver," Moira said joyously and surprised, "I was unaware you were coming."

"Hi, mom," Oliver said, not returning his mother's joy, "I need to talk to you about something, and it's not good. Not at all."

"Well?" Moira asked, raising an eyebrow, "What is it?"

"The DA's office chose Laurel to represent the state in your trial," Oliver said rather quickly, probably trying to get it out as fast as possible, "I'm sorry."

"You left out the part where you yelled at her," Thea mentioned, earning a reproachful glance from Oliver.

"Oliver, you didn't," Moira pleaded, hoping it would change the past, "Please don't tell me you frightened that poor girl," He couldn't look at her, "No you shouldn't have done that."

"She deserved it," Oliver staunchly defended his actions, "She called you a murderer."

"To be fair," His mother sighed, "She may very well be right about that. And the DA is probably trying to just get under your skin, and from your reaction, it seems they've succeeded. Oliver, just know, that whatever happens here, I love you both dearly. And we will get through this I promise."

"Sorry I'm late," Oliver walked into the warehouse, trying to conceal his fuming, exactly thirty minutes after he was told to be there, "I had a few things this morning."

"You're actually right on time," Agent Parker said.

"I'm half an hour late," Oliver looked confused.

"Yeah," Justin said, "I assumed you would be about thirty minutes late, so I told you to be here thirty minutes early. And it seems I was right. Now contrary to what you might think, my entire job does not revolve around you, so let's get started."

Oliver sat down around a table with people he didn't recognize, for the most part.

"We have the Arrow, of Starling City," Justin began by giving an introduction to each hero, "Bronze Tiger, Katana, Nemesis, Wildcat, Onyx and last, Huntr-"

"No," Oliver said standing up, "She is crazy and a killer."

"So are you," The man Parker indicated as Bronze Tiger pointed out, "So are most of us," he gestured at Katana & Onyx.

"Oliver, I've done some things I'm not proud of," Helena said, "But A.R.G.U.S. has helped me become a better person, and move beyond my vendetta with my father. Oliver you don't have to forgive me, put you should try to work with me."

"Well…" Justin paused, "I could not have said that better myself. Now," He nodded at Oliver "Let's get to the boring part of personal skills. I already know them, so you should tell each other, and I have some other introductions to make. Felicity, if you would follow me," She nodded moving after him, "Thank you."

They walked for a few seconds in silence, until Justin decided to ask a question that had been on his mind for awhile.

"What's with you and Queen?" Justin asked continuing to walk through the rows of boxes and shelves.

"What do you mean?" Felicity asked nervously, and Justin raised his eyebrow, "You mean, no, we're not… no, why would you think that…"

"I'm just going to stop you right there," Justin said smiling, "I never thought you were sleeping together, I just wanted to see your reaction."

"Well," Felicity said indignantly, "That was not nice."

"Also, you need a reason of why you two spend a lot of time together outside of work," Justin said becoming immediately serious, "You are his cute blonde assistant who wears tight blouses and short skirts, and he is one of the richest people in the world, with a penchant for fucking those he's not supposed to. You need a good reason of why you spend so much time together outside of work. Specifically in the basement of his nightclub."

"You're saying that I need to come up with a lie," Felicity answered after a brief pause, "Or a boyfriend."

"Or both," Justin said, stopping at a door Felicity hadn't noticed, "I'll ask you again in a week, you need to work on it."

"Okay," Felicity said, "Thanks, I think."

"This is where you'll be working," Parker said, putting his hand on the door knob, "You can finally meet the man who got into the systems you designed."

"Oh god," Felicity whined, "I hate male nerds, they're either creepy or really scared of me, or both."

"Trust me," Parker laughed, "This is not like any nerd you'll see on TV, he'll change your perception of the word."

"Alright then," Felicity was now interested.

"Felicity," He opened the door, "Meet Victor Stone."

"Helena," Oliver made his way over to his former lover, "I'm sorry about what I said, I should've known that Parker would have had a good reason for bringing you on, I just, I…" He paused in thought, "Would you like to get something to eat?"

"Yeah I would," Helena said, pleasantly surprised. He held out his hand and she took it, happily.

NEXT: THE TEAM IS ON TARGET. BUT WHAT IS THE TARGET?

A/N: Ok so I did it, I got Helena & Oliver together, I'm pissed too, but it will help out the story later on, and it is very important to the dynamic of the team, both now and in later chapters. Also most of the other characters are incredibly low level, and therefore I only know what I read on wikipedia about Nemesis & Onyx. Another thing, Bronze Tiger, while similar will not be the same as the Bronze Tiger currently in Arrow. Brownie points for spotting the Justice League member in this chapter!

NOW SPOILERS FOR ARROW (EPISODE 214: TIME OF DEATH): SLADE IS BACK, and Oliver knows it now, I can't wait, this is going to be great, and the Flash is underway and that looks like it'll be amazing. Fox's Gotham has a major part of it's cast, and NBC's Constantine may have it's con man it Matt Ryan, who I know nothing about, but he looks the part! JESSE EISENBERG! LEX LUTHOR! I don't know how I feel about that, but you know what? I'm remaining optimistic! Guardians of the Galaxy has a trailer, and it's well… strange. But who knows I expect a strange movie for them.
