Part 2: Initiation

Chapter 10: Friction

"Welcome," A man spoke in a sing-song voice to small, crowded, and dark room, "To the Secret Society! My name is Anarky, and I'll be leading this little club! Now, any questions?"

There was silence.

"Feel free to ask," Anarky said, "I won't bite!"

"Could you, turn the lights on?" A man with a thick

German accent asked .

"Of course!" Anarky screamed happily, and bright lights suddenly blaired through the entire tiny room, "Any other questions?"

"Yeah," A man they all knew as Deadshot spoke up, "Why the hell is this room so small?"

"Technically it's not a room so much as an elevator," he explained, the sing-song voice was beginning to get annoying to the criminals, and he knew this, he had to make a play to assert his dominance.

"Then why isn't it moving?" A particularly disgruntled man with a burlap sack over his said asked.

Anarky looked over at a brown haired man.

"It appears as if the elevator has shut off due to an excess of mass on the container." The man known to most as the Calculator said.

"Well then," Anarky said, "Open the doors please," He said to Calculator and the information broker complied, "I guess we'll have to fix that," demonstrating his supremacy, he picked up a man in a purple jacket, and threw him out of the elevator, a shrill scream was heard while the man fell to his death, "I think that's taken care of, now let's go."

"Oliver are you… okay?" Helena asked, worried.

"Yeah, I'm fine," He said with a smile, "Why wouldn't I be?"

"I don't know," She said, raising an eyebrow, they were sitting in a small coffee shop just outside of the Glades, "You just seem kinda stressed. Are you really okay? You know I'm here if you want to talk to me? Right?"

"It's Laurel," He stated simply looking at her.

"What about her?" Helena pressed, "I apologize if I seem pushy, but I think that if you let this out, it might help you let off some steam. If I had something like this maybe I wouldn't have gone off the deep end."

"The DA's appointed her to represent the state in the case against my mother," Oliver said, "And she's going to do it because she said it's a good career move for her. And she's right, it's a slam dunk case for her and if she wins it, she'll have a spot as a DA. And I want the best for her, I really do, but… I just wish it didn't happen this way."

"I think you need to stop blaming yourself for what your mother didn't do," Helena said, "Yeah, she probably won't win the case, but you and I, and most of the city knows that this was Malcolm Merlyn's fault, not hers. He killed those people, she didn't."

"The city needs someone to pin it on," Oliver replied, "And she's the perfect recipient of that, she was involved, and I didn't kill her. Merlyn's dead, and you can't prosecute a dead man."

"No, no you can't," Helena smiled genuinely, "If only that were possible, it would make everything a lot easier."

"Thank you," Oliver whispered, taking a sip of his coffee.

"For what?" Helena asked.

"For helping me with this," Oliver explained, "It was really nice of you, and you didn't have to do this for me, after all I've done to you."

"Oliver," Helena nearly laughed, "You're the one I should be thanking. You tried to help, and I just wouldn't listen, I was so convinced I was in the right, that I wouldn't, I couldn't see anyone elses perspective. Anyway, if you should thank anyone, it's Dr. Parker."

"Dr. Parker?" Oliver asked.

"My government assigned therapist," Oliver raised an eyebrow, "I know how it sounds, and that's the attitude I went in with too, but she's really good at what she does."

"Justin's calling us," Oliver said, pulling his phone out of his pocket, "We should get back to the base."

"You two are late," Justin commented as Oliver and Helena were the last to walk into the meeting room, "I need you to be when I ask, next time," They quietly took seats at the back of the table, and Oliver avoided inquiring looks from Felicity & Diggle, "Now that we're finally all here, I have your first assignment. According to one of A.R.G.U.S.'s most trusted spies, the organization known as the Secret Society is preparing to make a first attack."

"You have got to be kidding!" Wildcat interrupted, and all eyes turned to him, "These guys seriously call themselves the Secret Society? That's just so corny."

"Corny name or not," Nemesis replied, "These guys are the real deal, Huntress and I have gone up against a few of these guys, they're very dangerous."

"Thank you, Nemesis," Agent Parker took back the conversation, "He's right Wildcat, but luckily we have a man on the inside. It's lead by a man who calls himself Anarky, as his name suggests he despises authority or any kind."

"Ironic," Felicity muttered.

"Very much so, Felicity," Parker smiled at her then continued, "We don't know his real name, or if he's working for anything. We don't even know what the entire organization looks like."

"Excuse me," Diggle interrupted, "But you kinda glossed over the fact that you have a double agent inside the Society. Who is that?"

"Not that I don't trust you, Johnny," He answered, "But until I'm satisfied that I can trust you all, his identity will remain between me, him and the A.R.G.U.S. board of directors. Now," He continued on, "Despite his hypocrisy, Anarky is very dangerous, as Katana and Nemesis can attest to."

"He is a skilled martial artist, and at various other forms of hand-to-hand combat, he is extremely intelligent and tends to stay one step ahead of his enemies," Katana explained, "He typically excels with his 'Grand Plans'. Not that I like to assume things, but I am almost certain that this is one them."

"While he's still probably the most dangerous," Justin said, "He definitely isn't the only threat, and before I send you in there I need to be confident you can take the entire Secret Society down."
