Hail all and welcome to another thrilling installment of my fanfiction! Now before we begin I wish to continue a discussion we were having before. As I noted with not making any story elements without having good reason to or that relate to the story, so too would I like to mention each characters, well character.

You see, Naruto at it's core is a Shonen, meaning it's aimed at a younger to teen audience and generally focuses more on action and (not always the case, but thankfully in Naruto it is) a message to tell, such as believing in your friends and learning how to love and not hate. Or how to want to become the Hokage in under two seconds after months of hating Konoha and wanting to burn the bitch to the ground.

I'm looking at you Sasuke. Fucking Kishi, handle your shit bro.

But, besides my constant complaints about the real main character of the show and, if I were a betting man, the one going to become Hokage, and again knowing our favorite manga author the eventual husband of a certain pale eyed kunoichi we all know and love.

No, not Hinabi you sick fucks. Ew. That's just wrong. She's like . . . 12 or something. Hinata. Jeez.

All joking aside, my point being that realistic characters, both in concept and development are never quite on the list of important things for a Shonen. While Naruto hasn't been completely bad in this, I personally feel that most the side characters lack any real substance (again haven't seen the filler where I know they like to fiddle with some) and that's where I come in.

With Hiashi I'm trying to keep him at the core of what he is in the show, an overly strict father who wants his daughters to succeed but has found fault with Hinata, enough so to where he removed her from being the clan successor. Not to mention he's a man who is rooted in tradition and concepts born way before he himself. So I'm basically building off that idea and really trying to flesh him out, and give him his own room to grow and change. I can also relate to a degree with Hinata and the way her father treats her, due to facets of my own upbringing.

So don't think I'm just making him a bully to make him a bully. If I wanted to make him a horrible dad believe me when I say I could make him way, way worse. Like, Hiashi-got-a-lolita-complex-and-really-misses-his-wife-which-Hinata-is-the-spitting-image-of, kind of worse.

Will this tale of father and daughter end up happy or sad? Only time will answer that question my friends.

Now, with that out of the way. . .

(Takes a deep breath)

CHUNIN FINALS TIME! What's going to happen?! What shall transpire here on the field of destiny today?! Let us see how history shall unfold and who shall survive!

(Grabs mic hanging from the ceiling) Ohhhhh LET'S GET READY TO RUUUUUMMMBBLEEEEE!

XXXX

One month had passed since the end of the preliminaries and Konoha was bustling with traffic as dignitaries came from all over the Elemental Nations to behold the tournament to be held. More than just a trial for ninja to overcome, it was also had the benefit of being a type of weapons show for potential buyers. It was well known that countries that had well preforming ninja would be given preference on important missions, so in a way the exams are free advertising.

While regular shop owners and businessmen who resided in Konoha were rolling out the red carpets and jacking up the prices on their wares, dreaming of raking in a huge payday, ninja were on red alert. While it was generally considered to be neutral ground, that didn't mean tensions didn't run high or the occasional fight broke out between foreign and hometown ninja.

Case in point when the Chunin Exams were held a few years back in Iwa, the tournament was delayed by a day after a failed assassination attempt by one of the Iwa ninja against a Konoha ninja. The Iwa ninja had mistaken the Konoha ninja for someone he'd fought and lost a teammate to in the Third Shinobi World War.

The gate guards could arguably have the most stressful job of the day. They had to make sure each person going through had the proper identification to pass, not to mention having to keep an eye out for any spies who would try and use the confusion to slip in unnoticed.

Even with all this confusion going on making it impossible to spot anyone in the crowds, Hinata found herself leaning over the railing of a rooftop cafe, where Team Eight was supposed to gather at nine, before the tournament started at noon. Hinata had changed her choice of clothing from her usual jacket to a white vest with a large Hyuuga family crest sown into the back. She was also sporting a metal forearm and hand protectors called kote. Trying her best to scan through the crowds, she kept hoping she'd see the flash of blond spiky hair she was hoping to see.

"Hinata, come sit back down. Naruto will be here soon, I doubt he would be late for the tournament."

Shino spoke, leaning over the table where he had more than a few fruity sugary drinks, their now empty containers collecting on the table. Though it wasn't common knowledge, Aburame hives could be affected by their hosts diet. And sugar was an insect favorite, so some Aburame liked to 'treat' their hives by eating or drinking sugary foods or drinking sweet drinks to make their hives happy. Or, as happy as insects could be. It certainly displease the Aburame any either.

Shino himself had a change himself, deciding to forego his jacket entirely, now only wearing a loose black tank top, allowing for his hive to move unhindered through the shirt. He found that he rather enjoyed the feeling of the breeze on his skin.

"It's been almost two hours, what if something's happened to him? He said he was going out to that mountain range, what if he hurt himself and -"

"Hinata, relax." Kurenai laughed from her own seat next to Shino in her usual dress. "I'm sure he just woke up late, you know him." Kurenai added, then looking over to Shino who returned the look to convey that he was thinking the same thing. The lovestruck girl would do anything but relax.

Kurenai watched her students with a smile on her face, proud of how far they had come in only a month. Both had pushed themselves as hard as they could, obviously taking to heart the challenge Naruto had presented to them before he left for his own 'special' training.

Hinata had done nothing but train day and night until she collapsed. She was more proud of herself than she ever had been before and could now fight Neji as an equal. She found that she loved sparring with him. She also couldn't help respecting how utterly devoted he was to his form and execution of the Jyuken. She knew that his drive to perfect the Hyuuga art spawned not from the arrogance and pride that the Main House was so often to display, but rather from his own discipline and refusal to accept anything less that perfection from himself, which drove her to work just as hard, so that she could keep up with him.

Shino too had spent his month training hard to improve himself. After successfully integrating the new colony into his hive he spent the remaining time pushing himself physically as well as honing his mastery over using his new companions.

Hinata grumbled, fidgeting where she stood, not being able to stop worrying as she kept scanning the horizon. She hadn't seen Naruto in so long, she missed him terribly. If she hadn't been training, or openly defying her father, she thought about her love.

Then, as Hinata started to consider trying to go find him, she was startled to hear a loud, familiar voice coming from above.

"Look out! Incoming!"

Hinata turned, a large smile in her face, until she saw the blond bombshell plummeting from the sky. Shino and Kurenai barely managed to jump aside before the human cannonball slammed into the table completely obliterating it and, with a loud curse, skid across the cafe floor and slammed into the metal railing.

"Naruto?!" All three exclaimed, running up to check on the dazed youth.

Naruto felt as though the entire world was spinning, and swore he saw six people standing over him. "Whuzzat? Nah, I'ms okaya." Naruto managed to mutter, his world still spinning.

"Naruto, are you okay?! What happened?" Hinata asked panicking, pulling out a small cloth from her pocket to dab at the blood that had started to bleed from a small wound on Naruto's head.

Managing to turn his head towards Hinata he gave her a large smile, "Heys, two Hinatas. Twice the funz yeah. Kekeke."

"Wh-wh-wh-wha?!" Hinata shouted, holding her cheeks, as she turned bright red and her brain decided now was a perfect time to fill her pubescent mind with indecent thoughts. It didn't help any that Naruto had ruined his gi at some point of his training and only had the leather strap that held his sword covering his chest and his pants, along with the white bandages that covered his right arm and feet. His month of intense physical training had paid off with good results, as he had not only gained a bit more muscle but he now had good tone, his skin tight around his developing muscles. Not to mention the cherry on top, that being he was lightly tanned from the sun. Her brain made certain to etch his body into her memory permanently.

Shino snickered, as he came to squat down next to Naruto. "Come on now Naruto. We need to get headed out to the arena already. You're two hours late."

Naruto shook his head, clearing the dizziness he had received from his fall and looked at both his teammates, one currently hiding her face with her hands and muttering incoherent things to herself with a small giggle here and there and the other looking like he was trying his best not to laugh.

Naruto broke out the biggest grin he had and lunged forward grabbing both teammates around the neck and pulled them into a big hug. "You have no idea how bad I missed you guys!"

Hinata's mind both shut down and exploded at the same time, as she could now feel with her body his own that she had been admiring earlier. His unexpected hug caused her hand to land on his developing abs, and that had been all she could take.

"Naruto! Can't, breathe!" Shino was able to say, with Naruto's right arm choking the air out of him.

Naruto quickly let go of Shino, looking sheepish. "Oops! Sorry Shino, I don't know my own strength I guess!" He chuckled. He then looked down towards Hinata and almost had a heart attack seeing she was completely passed out with blood pouring out of her nose, with the largest smile he'd ever seen on her face. "Oh crap! Hinata! Wake up! Oh shit, did I hurt her?! Why is she bleeding?! Sensei - help!" Naruto yelled out panicking, looking over to Kurenai who didn't know if she was amused or annoyed.

With a gentle smile she sighed, walking over to calm the idiot blond down. I really did miss you. Idiot.

XXXX

"So now, why exactly were you flying through the air again?" Kurenai asked.

After apologizing multiple times to the cafe owner about the damages and giving him a place to send the bill to, Team Eight had began hurrying off to the arena.

"Like I said, I used a new technique I learned to try and get to the cafe faster and I overshot it!" Naruto answered for the third time, wishing that she'd drop it already. The truth was that he had overslept. He had intended on waking up before the sun came up, only to wake up to the sun shining brightly. He hadn't even bothered packing up his supplies and tent, instead only grabbing his sword and hitting the ground running as soon as he realized what had happened.

He didn't bother with climbing back down the mountain and instead opted to run down it as fast as he could and then instantly transfer to tree running, pushing himself as fast as he could to get back in time. All in all, he made the trip in a third of the time he had when he first came out.

As soon as he saw Konoha's walls in sight, he had decided to forego checking in with the front gate, he didn't have time. As soon as he leapt up to the wall -with a quick explanation to the wall guard who recognized him - he decided it was a good time as any to test out his theory that he could use the demon chakra to power up his muscles; much like like he'd heard that masters of chakra control could to do to preform superhuman feats.

He'd done everything right, taking just enough of the Kyuubi's chakra and applying it to his legs as he prepared to jump as far as he could, and let himself go planning to only clear a few buildings at a time.

Sadly, master of chakra control Naruto was not. What he thought was just enough turned out to be way too much and launched himself way higher than he had intended, becoming nothing more than a fading scream into the wild blue yonder.

Overshooting it had been an understatement, though none could argue with his accuracy.

Kurenai knew the boy wasn't telling her the whole truth, but decided to let it drop. The arena was coming into sight, and she could feel the excitement in the air like electricity.

Hinata still hadn't fully recovered from her previous experience, still beet red and trying everything she could to erase from her mind the feeling of Naruto's firm, hard, hot body and the scent of the wilderness that clung to him. She had to throw her hand up to her nose, making sure she wasn't bleeding again as they arrived at the arena.

Naruto looked up at the arena with a confident smile, punching his fist into his open palm.

Shino walked up besides him with the same air of confidence. "I sincerely hope you didn't waste any time with your training Naruto. I'd hate to show you up." Shino taunted.

"No way in hell. Just you wait, you're gonna see a whole new Naruto Uzumaki!"

Walking up besides her teammates, Hinata tightened her kote. "Naruto-kun, I'll show you how much I've improved too!" Hinata stated staring ahead.

With a grin, Naruto skipped ahead and did a quick turn thrusting out a fist. "Let's promise here and now! All of us are becoming Chunin no matter what today!"

Shino and Hinata both nodded and hit their fists against Naruto's forming a triangle shape. All three shared a look and exclaimed, "Believe it!"

After getting registered, Kurenai wished her team luck, promising to be the loudest one rooting for them all in the stands.

Maneuvering through the arena, they found their way to the waiting area for the final combatants, which was a simple rectangular room with four benches running lengthwise, with the walls ending at the other end of the room allowing for a view overlooking the arena, a sturdy metal handrail being the only barrier. Their entrance drew the looks of most of the participants, all of whom seemed on edge and anxious.

Looking around, Naruto took count of all the finalists. Starting from his left, he saw the weird mummy from Oto, his name was Dosu, if Naruto remember correctly. Lee on the floor warming up with gusto, preforming rapid push ups to the point where Naruto wondered if would be closer to a workout?

Then, he noticed Sasuke seated on a bench giving him a menacing look, as if trying to intimidate him. Naruto shuddered, not from fear but being creeped out seeing how exactly the Uchiha was looking at him. Not as an opponent but something more akin to a hated enemy.

Quickly shifting his attention away from him, he almost laughed seeing Shikamaru lazily sleeping under the bit of sunlight that shined in from the opening. Neji wasn't far from Shikamaru, leaning against the railing and currently offering a friendly wave and smile to Hinata. Naruto was glad that the two of them were getting along.

Finally, he made eye contact with the only person he had been nervous about seeing again. It was the female member of the Suna team, Temari. And judging by the terrible glare she was giving him, she was holding a grudge. No sooner than Naruto made eye contact with her, she marched up to him, causing Naruto's teammates to tense, but with a gentle arm motion stopping them both, Naruto walked forward.

Before any words were spoken, Temari lashed out, her hand finding it's mark across Naruto's face causing a large echo. Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing, falling silent. Lee had stopped mid-push up, and Shikamaru had woken up, though he didn't open his eyes.

Naruto hadn't moved, her blow not moving him physically, but he could feel the rage she put into the blow. "I -" he started.

"Don't you fucking dare." Temari growled, her glare boring into his eyes, Naruto made sure to not break eye contact with her. "You son of a bitch!" She yelled out, slapping him again.

Naruto kept his hands held up to his teammates, each who were ready to fight the Suna ninja off their teammate.

"I would do the same, if you had killed either of my teammates." Naruto spoke, trying his best to calm her, though he knew that for what he did, no consoling would work.

Temari's eyes flashed with dangerous rage, as she grit her teeth and struck Naruto as hard as she could across his jaw, this time with her fist. "You fucker, he was my brother!" She roared.

Naruto still didn't move, though his face showed his shock at the new information. This time, he truly could think of nothing to say. He broke his eye contact with her, looking away towards the floor, feeling regret hit him harder than it had before.

"He. . ." Temari started, choking back a sob. Naruto looked back up at the enraged kunoichi seeing her eyes starting to glisten with tears. "Gaara was a murderer. He killed people without remorse and enjoyed it. Every day Kankuro and I were scared for our lives, being near him was dangerous as he was. He made it clear to us that he had no problem killing either of us if he so much as willed it. The term family meant nothing to him."

Temari couldn't hold back her tears, as they began coursing along her cheeks. "But we . . . we knew that wasn't our real brother. It was the fucking demon they sealed inside him. He didn't have a choice in the matter, dammit! All we wanted, was to show him that we were there for him. . ." she sobbed, "and even . . . and even if he didn't want us, no matter how he threatened us and pushed us away we promised to never give up on our little brother!" Temari was doing her best to keep her voice and emotions under control, but she was beginning to break.

"And then you!" She roared punching him again, this time knocking him back a step. "You took our chance away!" She punched again. "You killed him!" She threw another punch. "Now we can never see our little brother smile again because of you! You goddamn monster!"

Temari could no longer restrain herself as she cried in earnest and started violently punching Naruto again and again, the sounds of her fists hitting his flesh echoing through the room. Hinata and Shino moved forward to stop her, but again Naruto forcibly held them back.

It took a minute, but Temari finally stopped, not able to continue her assault, and bent over, breathing heavily.

Naruto remained silent, his face battered and bruised, his nose broken and bleeding, along with the feeling of having a few loose teeth. But soon his welts and bruises began smoking ever so slightly, showing his natural healing taking effect to repair his face as quick as it could. Reaching up, his face unreadable, Naruto cracked his nose back into place without so much as a grunt of pain.

After a moment of catching her breath, Temari straightened back up, keeping her head down. "When we fight," she started, her voice low and dangerous. She rose her head back up to meet his eyes. "I am going. to. Kill. You." She spoke, making it perfectly clear she was dead serious. Not letting him answer her, she moved around Team Eight, exiting the room.

The room stayed silent until the first tournament announcement was given.

The arena stands were fully packed, every single last seat taken by spectators all eager for the fights to begin. The residents of Konoha were ecstatic to see that 90% of the finalists were all from Konoha, and they made sure to bring everything they could to represent the pride they had in their ninja and village. From shirts to banners, the citizens made certain to rub it into the faces of anyone not from Konoha that Leaf ninja were number one.

Then, in the center of the arena, Hayate Gekko appeared in flash of smoke, sporting his trademark cough, causing a brief spark of cheer as the spectators knew the fights would begin soon. Holding out one hand to signal the crowd to quiet down, Hayate gave himself a moment to clear a coughing spell before continuing.

"The match ups for the Chunin Finals have been decided! First match! Naruto Uzumaki vs. Shikamaru Nara!"

A loud wave of cheers echoed through the stadium and personal bets started being placed immediately. One such bet was being suggested to Kurenai by Asuma Sarutobi.

"Come again?" Kurenai asked, looking surprised at her fellow Jonin,

Asuma smiled at her, keeping his cigarette in place between his lips. "Like I said, make a bet with me. If Shikamaru wins, go out on a date with me."

Kurenai looked at the bearded Jonin like he had grown a second head. They had been friends for a long time, knowing each other since they were younger. But she could honestly say she hadn't ever really considered him in any capacity other than a comrade. Seeing his earnest smile though, she gave it a thought. But before anything further could be discussed about the proposal, a loud shout ricocheted through the arena.

"WHAT?!"

Kurenai immediately recognized it as Naruto. Leaning forward trying to get a better view into the waiting area for the competitors, she could hear another voice ring out as the stadium had fallen dead silent.

"You heard me! I give!"

Asuma's jaw went slack, as his cigarette dropped from his lips. With a growl he jumped up from his seat. "Dammit Shikamaru! Don't you dare forefit!" he yelled out, instantly recognizing the other voice as his lazy student.

"Forget that! It's way too much of a drag! Yo, ref! I give up!"

"You can't just give up! We need to fight!"

"Not all of us are meat heads that love getting the snot beat out of us! I'd rather not take a gigantic sword to my face!"

"The hell did you say to me?!"

"N-Naruto-kun, calm down. . ." Another voice could be just made out.

The entire stadium was dead quiet as they all tried to make sense of what exactly was transpiring.

Hayate coughed, and looked up towards the waiting room where he had a perfect view of Naruto currently trying to wrench Shikamaru free from where he had grabbed onto a railing like a lifeline.

"Uh . . . are you sure?" Hayate asked.

"Yes! I forfeit!"

"The hell he does! The fight is still going on!"

Asuma now was seated back down, holding his face in his palm, shaking his head slowly while Kurenai was trying her best not to laugh.

"Well. *cough* uh. . . Naruto Uzumaki advances to the next round by default!" Hayate announced, raising his hand.

Kurenai looked over at Asuma with a sympathetic smile. "Better luck next time?"

Up in the booth reserved for the Hokage and any of his guests, Sarutobi sat with the Kazekage, four ANBU guards behind them as entourages.

Sarutobi currently had a smile on his face, expecting nothing less from a male member of the Nara clan. Though they were rather lazy and were known to complain about work, they always came through in the end, especially when most needed. Though, he had to admit he would of liked to see how Naruto matched up against Shikamaru.

"Is this type of display quite normal for your village?" The Kazekage asked, listening in on the antics the two genin were displaying.

Sarutobi gave a faked nervous smile, "Oh no, not at all. Just two genin who are rather vocal is all." Sarutobi replied, feeding the Kazekage a complete and utter lie. Just the morning exuberance of Might Gai was enough to prove that.

The Kazekage nodded, replying "Is that so?" before leaning back into his chair..

Sarutobi sighed under his breath, not wanting to bring up next what he needed to for diplomacy. "Kazekage-sama, I wish to personally apologize about the death of your son in the preliminaries, and offer my condolences."

"Hm? Oh yes. It's quite alright." The Kazekage replied nonchalantly, seeming to focus on something down towards the stadium.

Sarutobi narrowed his eyes, as he closely studied the other Kage. Something felt wrong to him, but what he couldn't put his finger on. "I see."

XXXX

After giving a moment for the confusion and chatter to die down after the rather weird turn of events concerning the first match up, Hayate once again cleared his throat and raised his hand.

"Right then, the next match is: Hinata Hyuuga vs Sasuke Uchiha!"

The stadium exploded.

XXXX

Inside the competitors room, Hinata looked over towards Sasuke who met her look. He soon gave her a mocking scoff, and shook his head. "This will be over quick." He spoke, before jumping down into the arena.

"Screw you asshole!" Naruto called after Sasuke as he disappeared from sight.

Hinata touched Naruto's shoulder, giving him a confident smile. "It's okay Naruto-kun. I can take him."

Naruto spun towards Hinata, giving her his trademark smile. "Damn straight you can! Go out there and paint the walls Uchiha red!"

Hinata smiled with a light blush, feeling ecstatic hearing Naruto's confidence in her.

"We have a saying in the Aburame Clan," Shino started, walking up beside Hinata, causing her to turn towards him. "Even the smallest insect has half a soul. It means that no matter how small your opponent, never underestimate them. His arrogance and small opinion of your ability will be his downfall."

"Shino. . ." Hinata started, feeling grateful she had teammates who cared for her so. With a nod she looked back at both her teammates and held out her fist.

Naruto and Shino both smiled and formed the same triangle with their hands they had earlier. "Believe it!"

Laughing, she broke form and nodded, full to the brim with confidence. Walking away, she saw Neji standing by the railing with Lee. "Good luck Hinata-sama. Remember to avoid looking directly into his eyes." Neji spoke.

It was common knowledge that the Hyuuga and Uchiha clans were constant rivals in terms of who had the better bloodline limit, as such they would each know the others weaknesses perfectly.

"I will Nii-san."

"You can do it Hinata-san! Anyone who can stand up to Neji can easily defeat Sasuke! Yosh!" Lee spoke, giving Hinata a thumbs up.

"Lee-san?" Hinata asked, surprised to hear his support.

"It is as Shino-san said! He is arrogant and looks down upon others he views as weak! This is un-youthful behavior that must be corrected by a proper demonstration by someone who's flames burn brightly!"

Hinata smiled and nodded, not quite understanding but getting the general message. "Thank you, Lee-san."

Not wasting anymore time, Hinata gave one final look back to her teammates, who both still smiling, before leaping into the arena.

XXXX

The stadium was going insane. This would be the fight of the century, an Uchiha versus a Hyuuga. Sharingan versus Byakugan. Two of the most powerful bloodline limits going toe to toe. The bets were flying and so far the odds were stacked in Sasuke's favor, due to the Uchiha being top of his class.

Hiashi sat with the clan elders and the rest of the Main House, Hanabi at his side. As soon as the match had been announced, the entire Main House became dead serious as they all would be watching this fight very close.

Hiashi, more than anyone, felt the pressure of the threat of consequences a defeat could bring if Hinata lost against the last Uchiha in Konoha. This was no longer a competition between two ninja, this now held the reputation of two clans at stake. And it made Hiashi nervous.

Though even he would have to admit his daughter had made progress, could it truly be enough to stand against the Sharingan?

"Father, what will happen if Onee-sama loses the fight?" Hanabi asked, looking towards her father.

"Failure is not an option in this Hanabi. For her to lose would be . . ." Hiashi trailed off, not wishing to speak of the shame such a thing would bring upon the House.

XXXX

Down in the arena, both genin were staring each other off, while Hayate stood between them.

Allowing a cough to pass, Hayate began to explain the rules. "Right then, you both should know this but the fight will continue until either one of you can no longer move, gets knocked out, or dies. But try not to kill each other."

Sasuke smirked as he cracked his neck. "I won't make any guarantees, can't say I'm too good at holding back my strength."

In the stands, Ino and Sakura were screaming Sasuke's name rooting for him, causing many other women to scream out his name and fawn over how cool he was.

Hinata gave him a cool smile and bowed to Sasuke in respect. "Don't worry, I'd hate to finish the job your brother started myself."

Sasuke's eyes widened and he grit his teeth, clenching his fists. "Bitch!"

"Ooooooh damn!" Naruto yelled out laughing, high fiving Shino who was doing his best to hold his in.

Hayate backed up a step and held his hand up to signal the two fighters to get ready.

Hinata moved into a perfect Jyuken stance, with Sasuke still glaring at her, going into an aggressive stance himself.

"Ready? Fight!"

I'M SO NOT SORRY ABOUT THAT LAST BIT. OOC OR NOT IT HAD TO HAPPEN. Made myself laugh so damn hard when I type that up.

Baby girl got TEETH.

Don't worry my loyal readers, the fight of the century will be upon us soon. Probably not tomorrow as I'll be extremely busy, but you can look forward to Sunday for sure.

Also want to say feel free to PM me for any little thing you can think of. I'm always checking my mail and I love talking to my readers.

Lot's of humor in this one I know, but believe me when I say it's the last chance I'm going to get to do it for a few chapters. Though, I like to think I have a good sense of humor. Then again I have been called arrogant as hell and full of shit before by my peers.

They may be onto something.

Until next time folks.
