Well, I'm back. I have the time to made this, so I'll be updating it relatively early. Thank you for everyone who'd been sticking with me and following this story and bear with the mad plot my brain supplied me with. That being said, happy reading...
A buzzing noise shattered through the dead silence of the night. A group of 8 people sitting comfortably in a transport that will take them towards the cursed peninsula of Olive's Rock. Two of them in particular, sat next to each other, casually having a conversation, trying to keep the other from falling asleep as one of them is actually steering the unusual transport.
"This is nice."
"What is?
"Here we are, just the two of us, looking at... nothing." The man said as he stares to the darkness of the night, despite the lighting helping their navigation.
The other sighed, without uttering a single word.
"What's wrong Lee, you look awfully tired."
He sighed again. This time however, he answers. "I've been awake for the last 72 hours, I jumped 2 different worlds to get here. That's 6 different wormholes, with at least 5.623 km between each of them. No Flynn, I am not tired at all." He finishes with a sarcasm.
Flynn chuckled. "The life of a Legion, eh? I swear, this sort of thing will be the bane of us."
"Correction, the life of a Legion-Hunter. At least you and Seff get to stay at the same world. Speaking of Seff, How is that kid?"
"Now, I don't know. He said something went wrong in his recent ops. Can't blame him, he's been taking a lot of jobs recently. Anyway, I told HIM about the mission update and the next thing you know, he sent you, a Hunter along with those blocks at the back to recover the package."
"He did say it was important."
"Or maybe he was guilty for sending Seff there in the first place."
"HIM? Being guilty?" the man chuckled, "I'd love to see that."
Both men paused for a second, before one of the man remembered something.
"That reminds me. I got a message from him." He said as he pulls out a small mail from his pocket and offered it to Flynn, the man sitting next to him. Flynn took a glance, the letter was small nevertheless formal, with a distinctive seal he recognized.
He then goes on by saying. "Who is it for? Me? Seff?"
"Neither." His colleague responds with a simple answer. "It was for a certain Queen of Arendelle named Elsa."
Hearing that was a surprised for Flynn, his eyes widened as a result. He then started to chuckle.
"You know her?" asked the Legion-Hunter, Lee.
"Yea, of course I do. Of all the people you asked for, she is probably the most well-known individual in this world after what she pulled last summer."
"Sending the whole kingdom into an eternal winter." He smirked, "Impressive if you asked me."
"Well, someone read her profile before coming here."
"Nope, I watched the movie."
"What? 'Frozen'?"
"That's the one."
"Well well, Lee a.k.a 'Pyro' the Hunter, one of the most lethal and deadly Legion-Hunter alive, watched an animated motion picture made for a healthy happy family. That's just... wow."
"Oh, shut up." He jokingly scolded his colleague.
Flynn, chuckled in response. "Okay, nevermind that. What does the Legion want with her anyway?"
"Not the Legion, It's HE who has an interest for her."
"Oh dear, that's even worse. What does he want? More female recruit?"
"He didn't handle recruitment, although I have confident that it has something to do with her 'specialty'."
"That's sounds like him alright."
"Anyway, here! You take it." as he pushes the letter to him.
"Are you kidding? I'm not touching that. I have no interest to be involved in any of his plan, and certainly did not want to be standing between him and the ice queen. Give that to Seff, he's a bit more familiar with the royals than I do."
Sensing his colleague refusal to forward the letter, the Hunter puts back the letter into his pocket.
A few minutes later, from the darkness, dozens of white particle started to make itself visible in front of them, as the light reflected from them like sunlight through glass.
"Snow?" Lee wondered.
"It means we're close. Buckle up, from here on out it's going to be a bit bumpy."
"Close, how close?"
"ETA 12 minutes, more or less. You might want to wake up your men back there."
"Good morning Elsa!" Anna yelled out on top of her lung as she invades Elsa's bed. "How was your night?"
"Anna, go away..." Responded Elsa lazily. She covers her ears with pillow as she tries to go back to sleep.
"You wouldn't sleep when it's snowing out there, right? Besides, you've got to tell me about last night."
Elsa didn't respond to that. Instead, she hides her face with a pillow, signaling Anna that her sister is in fact embarrassed about something.
Now, she made it her mission this morning to get her sister out of bed. Fortunately for the young princess, and unfortunately for her sister the queen, she has a plan in mind.
"Oh, Hi Seff. It's nice of you to check on my sister like this. Unfortunately, Elsa is-"
Anna was cut off by her own plan working. Elsa immediately sprung up, all with her bad hair from her sleep, all the while she yelled out.
"Seff?!"
Elsa, feeling dumbfounded, stared blankly to the entrance to her little quarter to find that... no one was standing there. A brief moment, before Anna started to laugh and Elsa realized that she's been played.
"Anna! You..."
"Hey, at least you're awake now. Now come on, Seff said we're about to make port." She said as she leaves Elsa's bed. Unfortunately, Elsa didn't move, instead she implemented quite an unamused gaze towards her little sister.
"What?" Anna said. "It's for real this time. Come on." She finishes, offering her hand.
Elsa didn't smile, at first. But then she stretches her lip muscles and took her sister's hand. The two then exit the small confined room of that ship. Outside, it was definitely morning, with all the fresh cool air of the morning, all without the sunlight.
"Fog?"
"Fog and snow, it's been like this all morning."
Elsa looked at the front end of the ship. All the crew filled the front section. She turned around, only to see a few of the crews with the captain, officers, Kristoff, Prince Blenheim, and of course Seff right behind the wheel.
The two sister soon joined them.
Elsa walked to where she stopped and stood next to Seff. Wiping her sleepiness away, the young queen tried to greet him cheerfully.
"Good morning."
"Morning, milady." He retorts back.
Elsa looked around her. Everyone stood still, staring ahead to the fog. Even Prince Blenheim that usually talk at this moment only stood in silence.
The silence is gritting to Elsa.
"So, what's going on?" she asked Seff.
"We're here." He said, before someone from the spotter's nest up in the sail yelled out. "I SAW SOMETHING."
As the ship slowly crawling ahead, a silhouette made itself visible from the thick fog. It wasn't a ship, more like something from a large structure.
"Go portside!" yelled Seff.
The first mate turned the wheel, shifting the ship's direction to its immediate portside.
"What is it?" Blen asked.
"It's an abandoned fort."
"Abandoned fort?"
"It's where they made camp. We can't port there, there's a little fishing village, abandoned, a place where we can made port."
They went deeper and deeper into the fog, as they did, the shadow of that large structure slowly fade away.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the fishing village. They deploy the longboat and started to bring everyone to the shore. Primarily, it's Seff, Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, Sven, Blen, along with his guards and Elsa's own guards. The rest of the crew stayed with the ship.
The village itself was rundown, abandoned. A few structure left standing, the rest were buried in deep snow. There's a few ship in its harbor, but nothing sea worthy.
"Well, this is... cheerful." Anna jokingly said, trying to bring up the mood.
"What happened here?" Elsa.
"It's abandoned, what do you expect?" Blen retorts.
Elsa walked to one of the structure, if you can call it that. What's left of the structure was a few wooden support column, it barely had any wall and no roof. What's pulled Elsa however, wasn't the fact that it's rundown.
"It looks like it's burned or something."
"Hey Elsa!" screamed Anna from a distance. "Do you want to build a snowman?"
"Don't wander off to far." Warned Seff.
"Relax, it's not like we're getting out of your sight."
Blen walked up to Seff, with his cape rubbing against the snow. "So, where to now?"
"We have a safe house here, it's up in the mountain. Well, it's not me it's-"
"Flynn's isn't it?" cuts Blen.
"More or less."
"Alright then, let's go."
"We got to move fast though. Not sure how long this weather going to keep up."
"What are you talking about?" Anna joined in. "It's not like this going to turn into a blizzard." She said casually, referring to the lightly falling snow.
A few hours later.
"Okay, I was wrong." Anna said, trying to hold her improvise winter coat with one hand and trying to cover her eyes with the other. "I can now understand why you hated this place."
"Come on! Into the cave!" yelled a voice leading the group, fighting against the howling of the wind. Needless to say, it was Seff.
The blizzard was relentless. It's of course usual for that place, as Seff had previously experienced. This will last for a few hours, and usually leaves behind a massive pile of snow. They wouldn't last long in the middle of a blizzard like that. Fortunately, the fact that there's a cave there was a life saver.
That cave of course, wasn't an ordinary cave, as Seff also knew and the group about to find out."
"KYAA!" Anna let out a short squeal, responding to the sight in front of her.
What's in front of her of course, doesn't just surprised Anna, it surprised everyone.
"Ah, Seff..." called Elsa nervously, "where are we?"
"It's the safe house." He answered as he walked to the object that terrifies Anna. That object was, unusual, a head of a goat being jabbed on a spike, displayed on the entrance of a wooden structure inside the cave. There weren't just one head, there are precisely five. Not only that, there are various demonic pentagram on the walls and ceiling of the cave, seemingly drawn by blood. Needless to say, the whole thing made the group incredibly uncomfortable.
"Great, can we get out of here now?" asked Anna nervously.
"Relax, these are just... something to keep people away. These heads aren't real and that wasn't drawn by blood, rather, it was drawn by paint." He pulled one of the props from the pike. "But, I guess he went a bit too far."
"Phew, thank god. I thought this place was haunted or something." Kristoff said, relieved about the truth.
"That's the idea."
"Well, then open the door. We're freezing here." Complained Blen.
Seff grabbed the freezing handle of the door, and twist it. It was lock, which was something to be expected. He remembered something. Bizarrely enough he started saying things to the door.
"What are you doing?" Asked Kristoff, checking up on Seff.
"Ahh, nothing. It's just... I forgot the password."
"Password?"
"Let me just..." he closes his eyes, trying to remember. "It's, it's... Sabine Valkyrie."
CLICK. A clicking sound was heard after.
Seff twisted the door, and it magically opened.
"Wait, what did you do?" asked Kristoff confused. In his mind, he couldn't just said something and it somehow locked the door, could he? Unfortunately, he would never know, as Seff simply smiled and slide the door.
"Excellent, let's go in." Blen eagerly suggested.
"No, wait."
"Oh come on, what is it now."
Seff sighed. "Damn it, Flynn..." he let out angrily. He turned to Blen, "Blen, give me your knife."
"What is it?" he asked, lending his knife to Seff.
"See that?" Seff pointed to a piece of thin shiny string running across the small gap of the opened door.
"Yea."
"That idiot booby trapped the door."
"Wait, who booby trapped the what?!" Intrude Anna, after she overheard the conversation.
"Ah, you might want to step back."
However, Anna wasn't done yet. "Wait, is this the guy that fixed all of this heads here? Because, if he is, he has some issue."
"That, I can agree on." He smiled. "Now, please get back."
Elsa pulls her sister away and stepped back. Everyone did the same, everyone except Blen.
"You too, Blen."
"Yea? try harder." He smiled, taking the challange.
With the knife Blen gave him, he cuts through the string with relative ease. The string jolts back from the tension it had. After all that is finished, Seff pushes the door, slowly. As it slowly creeks open, and slowly reveal the booby trap next to the door frame.
A little plate, thick pale green color plate, plate that is slightly bended. It's a plate as much it is a block. What's certain is that thing is made out of metal. It's small, the size of your average clay brick.
"Damn it, Flynn." He sighed, "I swear, that guy is going to get me killed one day."
"What's that?" asked the curious Anna.
"Ah..." delay Seff, thinking of a words to say to the princess. "It's the... booby trap."
"Really? I wasn't expecting something so... small."
"Yea well, this thing is dangerous despite its size."
"There's something written on it." Anna mentioned. She's referring to the handwriting on the object in question. Three words, Anna reads it as
"Front Toward Enemy, what's that mean?" she asked with enthusiasm.
"It's the... instruction, yea, instruction on how to use this thing." Seff blatantly answered.
Surprisingly, Anna just went with it and trusted him.
The group settled down. They took the liberty of lighting up the candles and making themselves comfortable. Everyone is inside, everyone, except Sven, he's waiting outside the safe house but not outside the cave. The guards were passive, mostly standing still without saying anything and not looking around, exploring. Unlike the princess. Kristoff was a bit calmer, nevertheless he followed Anna around exploring the place.
The room was primarily a living room being mixed together with a kitchen on the corner. It was pretty spacious. The door of the entrance to the safe house was not just a wood, as Kristoff previously thought. Attached behind the door was a sort of mechanical lock.
"Strange door." Kristoff commented.
Anna is having a look to as well, then asked. "What's with all the metal plate?" referring to the metal device supporting the door.
Seff was casually sitting, resting next to Elsa, answered her question. "It's a security measure, I think."
"Is the Legion always this paranoid?" Elsa asked.
"Hey, you can't never be too safe, right?"
"True." Said Elsa agreeing to Seff's statement.
"Hey Seff!" yelled out Blen, interrupting the eye contact between Seff and Elsa.
"What is it?"
"You have any winter boots? Or anything that will help us to not shiver to our death."
"I think there's a winter gear in the back."
"Right, got you."
"Hey, don't..." Blen walked away with a few of his men before Seff even finishes her sentence. "... Touch anything."
"I thought you haven't used this place in a long time?"
"Well, it's all getting back to me." He answered with a smile. "Oh, do you want something to eat?"
"Yeah, why not." Elsa retorts back. "Thank you."
"Let me just... you know, go get it. Wait here." He nervously stood up from the seat, stumbling while he reverse back. Elsa, simply giggled to his clumsiness.
"Anna, Kristoff! Would you like something to eat?" Seff offered the two who are still checking out the room.
"Yes, please." Both of them answered in unison.
Moments later, Seff came back with a few metal container. Needless to say, Kristoff, Anna, and Elsa was baffled. It was clear that the metal container has food in them, it would be totally fine, except that it was completely sealed.
"Ah, no offense, but how do we eat these?" asked Anna confused.
"We use this." Seff said, letting out another object. It was a device, it has a sharp part that meant for cutting. It was called, "A can opener."
"A what?"
"Those things are called cans, and you open them with the can opener." Seff presses the logic.
Seff then showed the three of them on how to open the canned food. It was unfamiliar thing, more like something new. When Kristoff asked about the reason behind putting food in a metal container. Seff gave out a straight forward answer.
"So that the food stays longer." With an exception, "That being said, the food won't have the best taste. Nevertheless, it's something to eat."
Anna and Kristoff proceed with opening their own canned food with the contraption Seff gave them.
"Beans?" Anna said. "What do you get Kristoff?"
"I got peaches."
"Elsa?" Anna asked her sister.
Elsa tried to read the label displayed on the can. Well, tried, she still can't make out what food is in her can. The label is clearly displayed and she's able to read with no problem. She just can't make out the unfamiliar word.
"Canned spaghetti?" she said confused.
"It's my favourite, as far as canned food at least." Seff smiled. For Elsa, that's enough to convince the queen that this "canned spaghetti" is a decend enough food.
Seff took the liberty of opening Elsa's canned food, which Anna finds it cute. The three began digging into their respective food, expecting a foul taste Seff described. They take a spoon of their canned food, ate it, and gulped it down.
It took a while to find out that the taste really isn't as bad as they previously thought.
"It's actually not that bad." Kristoff retort, before taking another spoonful of canned peaches.
"Well, it's not good. But it's not in any way bad." Anna seconds Kristoff opinion.
Seff chuckled. "I'm glad you liked it."
Elsa ate the string like food and sucked like a straw. She then gave her opinion about it, "It's quite different, but I like it." she smiled as thanks Seff for the food.
Elsa gulped down some more down her throat, before she realizes Seff wasn't eating anything.
"You're not eating?"
"No, I'm not hungry." He said as an excuse. "Just finish your food, you'll need all the energy you can get."
Kristoff then changes the topic. Whilst chewing his foor, which supposed to be a bad manner, he asked. "Have you seen Olaf?"
Everyone started to look around. Olaf was nowhere to be seen.
"He was here a minute ago." Seff mentioned, baffled.
"Hi guys." A familiar voice came. It was Olaf, apparently he went to the backside of the safe house with Blen and was just returning from his little exploration. The little curious snowman greeted the four people enjoying the canned. He wasn't waving, the snowman apparently brought a rather curious object.
That object was black and almost the length of Olaf himself. It's rather unusual shape is eye-catching, It's like a bulky stick, made out of metal, almost resembling a crossbow although it has a different front section. It has a grip and something that resembling a trigger, although not quite the same. Moreover, it has a little pipe coming out of the other end. That's why Olaf took it. He thought he'll show the strange metal pipe thing to the Anna or Elsa, and thus he brought with a smile on his face, oblivious to the fact that it caught Seff's attention.
"Olaf, slowly, don't move." Seff said slowly.
Olaf being Olaf, didn't listen, instead he discover on the strange metal thing. "What's this?" he asked himself, pulling the little metal sticking out on the side of the metal object, and it seems movable, to the backside at least.
A mechanical clicking sound was heard, twice. One when Olaf pulled the pullback, and one when he releases it after being startled by the sound.
Now the situation became serious to Seff.
The room turned silent, although Olaf is still smiling. Everyone remained calm, except for Seff, who for some reason alarmed about Olaf holding the strange object.
"Why? It's just a... what is that anyway?" Anna said.
"It's a weapon, now please give it to me."
"Okay." Olaf said, leading him pointing the pipe end towards Seff.
Seff reacted with, "Wait! Wait! Stop!" leading Olaf to freeze.
"Now, remove your left hand..." Seff instructed slowly.
"Like this." Olaf said, removing his stick hand from the object. Unfortunately, it was the wrong one
The weapon swung down, now with the pipe end pointing to the floor. Seff reacted again, "No! No! I meant your other left."
Olaf's hand switched places, following Seff's instructions. Seff walked closer, "now give it to me."
Olaf finally handed it over to Seff. As soon as Seff grabbed it on his hand, he exhaled all the air he held before as he was relieved.
He then mumbled to himself. "Right, safety on." He said whilst switching the lever on the side and pulling it all the way up. Then he mumbled again, "Magazine off." As he pulled off a part of the metal object loose. Lastly, he mumbled "clear the chamber." As he pulled the lever Olaf previously pulled. It slides back and from it jumped another object.
Anna picked the small object that jumped out from the big object. It have the shape of a long tube, although it goes really sharp and pointy at one end. It also has a distinctive bronze yellow-ish color to it.
After all that, Seff can breathe normally again.
"Did I do something wrong?" Olaf asked, feeling guilty.
"No, don't worry. No one got hurt." Seff smiled. "Where did you get this?"
"There's a cabinet full of those thing in the back." Olaf explained. Then, immediately afterward.
"Oh mate, you didn't say you have this thing in the back!" came an excited voice from the corridor leading to the backside of the safe house. It was Blen, holding another stick, this time it's different. Although it had the same metal pipe exit at one end, it is a bit longer than the one Olaf had, without the metal part Seff called "magazine".
"Blen, I swear, put that back, and didn't I tell not to touch anything?!" Seff frowned at his mischievous friend.
"Relax, I still remember how these things work. Hey, can I try it out?"
"No." Seff answered firmly to the request.
"Oh, come on. Just one shot." Pleaded Blen.
"No, put that back where you find it." Seff ordered.
Anna, being curious, joined in the argument. "Okay, I know it's a bad time, but how is a stick can be considered a weapon?"
Seff about to explained, but then the prince interrupts, "This thing, princess, is called a rifle. It's like a crossbow, but better. It sends one of those..." as Blen pointed at the object in Anna's hand. "... and sent it flying with a speed faster than your voice. Just imagine what that thing can do once it hits someone's body."
"Wew, okay." Now Anna started to look nervous.
"Seriously though Seff, this thing is way better than crossbow. Heck! It's better than a musket, and that's new technology. I know these because I'm a war minister." Blen gave a wink to Anna. "It would be better if my men were given these instead."
Seff sighed. "Your men can't even operate one of those."
"Fine." Blen admits defeat. "I'll put it back." As he walked back to where he came from, looking disappointed nonetheless.
"I swear, that guy..." Seff mumbled. Then Elsa walked up to him.
"I never knew you keep something so dangerous in the back."
"Yea, well the back is where the armory is. My friend was supposed to lock it."
"Who? You mean your friend Flynn?"
"Yes, him. I guess he must've been here not too long ago and forgot to lock the weapon cabinet." Seff turned to Elsa. "I'm sorry, he's-"
"Don't worry, you don't have to apologize." She said, breaking out a smile. "Did I mention you have a interesting friend? I think I did." She complimented.
"Hey, I think the blizzard stop." Kristoff mentioned, looking out of the small window on the door.
"Hang on, let me just get the winter gear from the back." He said before letting Anna went outside.
Seff went to the back, and returned with Blen. Both of them carrying a stack of white outfit.
"Here, for you." Seff offered one of the white winter coat to Elsa.
Elsa responded with only a stare, until Seff realizes. "Wait, do you need these?"
The white blonde smiled, "For the cold, no. But I think I'll wear it anyway."
Elsa and Anna decided to went into one of the rooms and change their clothes into the winter coat Seff gave them. Five minutes later they stepped out with the same white winter coat. The boys were done putting on their winter gear as well.
"Just a quick question, why does all of them had to be white? I mean, are you planning to hide in the snow?"
"Pretty much, yea." Seff retorts calmly.
Personally, that answer satisfy her curiosity. Anna can't wait to explore what's outside. She grabbed Kristoff's hand and dragged him with her outside the cave entrance. Outside she saw something that immediately caught her eyes and get her excited.
"Elsa! You've got to look at this!" she yelled
"I'm coming." she giggled, running in the white winter coat. Seff, he followed not far behind.
Elsa stepped outside, and there are no more snow falling. However, her attention quickly shifted to the massive structure that is clearly visible from where they are.
A castle, surrounded by a beautiful white background of the snowy mountain. It's not far from the look of it, and it is big, really big. Its beauty and elegance matched the castle Anna and Elsa lived in all their life. They weren't aware of such massive structure as the blizzard was raging earlier.
"I forgot that thing was there." mentioned Seff next to Elsa.
She turned, and that's when her sister propose an idea. "Let's go check it out."
"Hey, wait. Anna." Elsa called worriedly.
"It's fine." Seff justifies.
"Really? What if they were down there?"
"They mostly stayed around the coast, near the fort. They rarely travel deep inside the peninsula, since you know, it's cursed."
"See," Anna let out, then she tries to convince Elsa to come with her. "Come on, it'll be fun."
"Alright, as long as... Seff willing to come with us." Elsa turned to Seff, looking him in the eye.
Seff sighed. "Alright, I'll come. Blen? You're coming?" he turned to the young prince, casually leaning against the cave's entrance.
"Nah, you kids have some fun, I think I'll explore your little safe house a bit more." He jokingly replied.
"Hey, don't touch anything!" presses Seff
"Sure mate." He walked back inside the cave.
"I'm coming too." Yelled the little white snowman, bringing along an equally excited reindeer with him.
"In that case, LET'S GO!" Anna excitedly yelled, as she ran off ahead of the other.
"Hey, slow down." As Kristoff went after her. Seff, Elsa, Olaf and Sven followed, not too far from the two couple, carefully descending the slope into the mysterious castle. Who knows what kind of a secret awaits them there.
Google image search this; "Front Toward Enemy" and find out what did Flynn use to booby trapped the door. For those already know, well... you know what will happen if Seff just opened the door without looking.
One more thing, I'll be providing translation to the Russian dialogue in Chapter 10. Just letting you know, if you're still wondering what they were saying. :)
