Chapter 12 Soccer
Toshiro got up Monday morning feeling sore from the weekends' actives. He had gotten the highest score because no one could beat him at chess. Uryu and Chad were tied for second until Kisuke decided to give Uryu extra points for an hour chess game against Toshiro. Ichigo's score was so bad it was in the negatives.
Toshiro got ready for the day. He looked at the soccer paper. "It would be better to have something else to do."
When he walked into school, Ajin smiled and said, "Hi, did you have a good weekend?"
"Yes, I did," replied Toshiro. "I also did a lot of thinking."
"Did that hurt?" asked Karin.
"No," said Toshiro giving her a glare. "I decided to give soccer a try."
"Yes!" cried Ajin. "I knew you would come around."
"You hit your head on something didn't you," said Karin.
"No," said Toshiro.
Samoa came running in, "I'm sorry. I'm late. What did I miss?"
"He's going to do it!" shouted Ajin.
"Oh, really," said Samoa. "Well, soccer try outs are this Friday. So when can you practice?"
"Tomorrow and Thursday I can practice right after school."
"What about today?" asked Samoa.
"Today I have some things to do after school."
"How about we meet today at 5 o'clock," said Ajin. "We need to practice every day if we are going to make the team."
"That sounds good," said Toshiro.
The bell rang and classes started. At lunch time Toshiro joined Ajin and Samoa.
"What is Soccer?" asked Toshiro.
"It's a game!" said Ajin.
"There are two teams," said Samoa. "Both teams try to get the ball into a goal without using their hands."
"There are different positions too," said Ajin.
"Winger, Midfielders, and defender," said Samoa.
"Samoa is a defender," said Ajin, "He defends the goal so the enemy team can't score. I'm a winger which means I play on the sides of the field. You're a midfielder."
"How do you know that?" asked Toshiro.
"I know things," said Ajin.
The bell rang and they went back to class.
After school Toshiro went to Orihime's apartment.
"I'm here," said Toshiro putting his bag down at the door.
"Would you like a snack? I just finished making a new cookie recipe."
"I'll pass."
"Ok, let me get your file out, and we'll get started."
They settled down at the table.
"Can we skip or set Friday's session to a different time."
"Why?"
"It will help me stay in shape if I join a sport at school, so I am going to soccer try outs on Friday."
"That's great! We can skip Friday's session. Now let's get started."
"You made it," said Ajin. "Karin isn't coming today."
"After you pestered her I'm surprised she didn't punch you in the face," said Samoa.
"Is there any special equipment I need for this training?" asked Toshiro.
"You need this," said Ajin giving Toshiro a shoe box.
"They're cleats," said Samoa, "They help give you better traction on the field."
"How did you know my shoe size," asked Toshiro.
"I looked at the shoes in your gym bag," said Ajin.
"You could have asked me," said Toshiro putting on the shoes.
"It's rude to ask someone their shoe size," said Ajin.
"It's important to have good footing in soccer," said Samoa trying to prevent an argument. "If you don't have good footing then it is easier for someone to steal the ball from you and for you to fall and get hurt. So that's what we will work on today."
"Ok," said Toshiro.
Ajin and Samoa demonstrated moving the ball with their feet and passing it. It didn't take long for Toshiro to master it. Ajin and Samoa showed him more moves. Toshiro soon learned them all.
"You're a fast learner," said Samoa after they had practiced for two hours and were having a water break before going home.
"I'm a prodigy," said Toshiro.
"The power of water!" cried Ajin. Toshiro and Samoa liked at him. "Do you want to see my sketch book?" he asked.
"Sure," said Toshiro.
Ajin handed Toshiro his sketch book. Toshiro opened the book. The first sketch was the face of a Hollow with the word danger under it.
"This is a hollow," said Toshiro, "Can you see them?"
"No," said Ajin, "Only in my visions or dreams."
"I can see them," said Samoa. "Can you?"
"Yes," replied Toshiro. He turned to the next page. It was a sketch of Yoruichi's cat face with the word transform under it. "Have you ever met her?"
"No, not yet," said Ajin. "Don't forget I can see the future, but I only see faces.
"So you sketch them so you don't forget them," said Toshiro.
"That's right," said Ajin.
"He also has a notebook where he writes down any of his 'prophecies'," said Samoa.
"One day soon we are all going to be superheroes and have powers!" Ajin said excitedly.
"We can at least be friends," said Samoa. "And make the best soccer team ever!"
Toshiro thought about leaving when Samoa said friends, but he remembered his talk with Ichigo. "With my luck," began Toshiro, "Your dormant abilities will be awaken, Karin will choose to awaken her dormant Shinigami abilities, and we will have to fight together to destroy an enemy."
"That would be great!" cried Ajin.
"Does this mean you don't want to be friends?" asked Samoa.
"No, I do want to be friends," said Toshiro, "It would be nice to have friends my own age."
Samoa and Ajin's phones went off.
"It's my Mom," said Samoa looking at the text on his phone. "She says dinner is on the table."
"My Dad says the same thing," said Ajin looking at the text on his phone.
"Then I will see you both at school tomorrow," said Toshiro.
"Don't you have someone waiting for you?" asked Samoa.
"Sado isn't going to text me and tell me it's time to come home because he knows I can take care of myself," replied Toshiro.
"See you," said Ajin running off. "You better hurry, Samoa. You know how your Mom worries about you."
"See you at school," said Samoa.
Toshiro went back to Sado's apartment, had dinner, did homework, and went to bed.
Toshiro enjoyed spending time and playing soccer with Ajin and Somao every day. It took his mind off the fact that he couldn't have contact with the Soul Society. He still missed Hyorinmaru and wished that he was with him.
"Today's the day!" shouted Ajin on Friday morning.
"I'm nervous," said Samoa.
"I think we'll make the team," said Toshiro.
"I hope so," said Samoa.
"The school will burn," said Ajin.
"Is that one of your prophecies?" asked Toshiro.
"Yep," said Ajin writing it down in his prophecy book.
"You have said that one before," said Samoa.
"The more I say it the sooner it will come true," said Ajin.
"All right everyone get to your seats. It's time to start," said Misato.
After school was over Ajin, Samoa, and Toshiro raced to the soccer field where the try outs were being held.
"Hi, Karin," said Ajin, "Ready to make the team!"
"Yeah," said Karin, "But I thought Bleach Boy didn't know how to play."
"It's Toshiro Hitsugaya," said Toshiro, "And I have been training all week for this."
"Training? Don't you mean practicing," said Karin.
"Alright," said the coach, "All of you who want to be part of the soccer team come up and draw a number from this bucket."
Everyone drew a number.
"I got one!" shouted Ajin.
That's my number too," said Samoa.
"Two," said Karin.
"One," said Toshiro.
"Now I want all of you to get with the group with the same number," said the couch. "This is your team today you have ten minutes to get ready for the game."
"Team One is going to lose," said Karin.
"We will see," said Toshiro.
"A tie!" cheered Ajin.
During the ten minutes each team decided who would play what position, developed a strategy and stretched their muscles.
"The score doesn't matter. I will be looking at how you play not how many points you can get. Let's begin." The coach blow the whistle and the game began.
Karin, Ajin, and Toshiro made points. Samoa was the defender and blocked the ball from making a goal every time it wasn't Karin kicking it in. Toshiro noticed that Ichigo, Yuzu, and Orhime showed up. The three of them sat on the side lines watching. Yuzu cheered for Karin. Ichigo just sat quietly. Orihime cheered for everyone. When the game was over the score was tied.
"All of you did well, but there are only four openings this year," said the coach. "And the ones who made the team are Karin Kurosaki, Ajin Daidarabotchi, Samoa Yammagushi, and Toshiro Hitsugaya."
"We did it!" shouted Ajin.
"Congratulations, Karin," said Yuzu.
"Great job everyone," cheered Orihime.
"I knew you would make the team, Karin," said Ichigo. "Why did you decide to do this, Toshiro?"
"I have to stay in shape. What better way to do that then join a sport at school? After all I need to just live my life," replied Toshiro.
"At least you're not moping around and feeling sorry for yourself," said Ichigo.
"Chad and Uryu wanted to come but they are busy at college," said Orihime.
"Since I made the team we are going to have to change the time for our session," said Toshiro.
"That won't be a problem," said Orihime.
"Let's have a sleep over at my house to celebrate," said Ajin with a smile and grabbing Toshiro and Karin's arms.
"No way," said Karin pulling away from Ajin. "I have better things to do."
"I wouldn't let her go," said Ichigo. "I don't know anything about you. For all I know you're a psycho."
"He is," muttered Karin.
"What about, Toshiro?" asked Ajin. He still had a hold of Toshiro's arm.
"He can do what he wants," said Ichigo.
"I think it is a wonderful idea," said Orhime.
"Don't we have plans this weekend?" asked Toshiro.
"You mean like last weekend?" asked Ichigo.
"Yes," said Toshiro.
"No," said Ichigo. "We are only doing that once a month."
"Then let's go," said Ajin starting to drag Toshiro.
"Wait," said Toshiro breaking free from Ajin's grasp. Ajin looked at him, a pitiful look on his face.
"I wouldn't argue about it with him," said Samoa. "So let's just go to my house and your house to get what we need then go to Ajin's house."
"What about your parents?" asked Toshiro.
"I knew if we made the team Ajin would want to have a sleep over, so I have already cleared it with my Mom," said Samoa. "Would Sado object?"
"He wouldn't mind," piped Orihime. "I have to go now. Have fun, Bye."
"We'll be going to," said Ichigo. "See you."
"I need to go to the store," said Yuzu, "To pick some stuff up for dinner."
"Bye," said Karin.
Ajin had puppy dog eyes as he looked at Toshiro. "Alright," said Toshiro.
"Hooray!" Ajin cried jumping in the air. "Let's go!" He grabbed Toshiro's arm and took off.
"We need to get our things first," Samoa said running after them.
Me: If you review I will give you some of my mama's fudge. If you don't review I will send Kurotsuchi after you.
Kurotsuchi: I want to experiment on that Ajin fellow.
Me: Why?
Kurotsuchi: I want to know how he tells the future and I want that ability myself.
Me: But you are strong enough already.
Kurotsuchi: But with that ability I can finish my experiments faster and be able to get better test subjects.
