The boys walked up the stairs and into Kurt's bedroom. Kurt was a little nervous to show Blaine his room. His room was like a portal into Kurt's mind. It was a very personal and sacred area. The room was painted a light, soft blue. On the walls there were a variety of posters that were framed and any one could tell that they were meticulously arranged. One was a poster of Wicked. This was the first and last Broadway show Kurt had ever seen. His mom and dad took him on a mini vacation to New York City before the accident. They went to see all the sights they could in a weekend and that included a Broadway show. Kurt can still imagine all the sounds of the city in his head and the voices of Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel singing. New York City held a special place in Kurt's heart. After that little vacation, Kurt's dream was to be the one on the Broadway stage singing with Kristin Chenoweth. However, Kurt knew now that there was no way he would make it to Broadway now. He hadn't even heard his voice in several years.

There were other posters around the room, some of New York City, a Breakfast at Tiffany's poster, and piano posters. On his large corkboard Kurt had many sketches he had done in the past year. Nearby the corkboard there was a sewing machine, fabric, and many other sewing necessities. There was also a mannequin with a suit that was almost halfway finished. Kurt enjoyed making his own clothes. His dad had told him that maybe his new dream should be fashion; however, Kurt couldn't see himself making clothes for other people and actually enjoying it. He would also need to be able to communicate with clients. Although it could work, he thought that he would no longer find joy in fashion and clothes if he went into fashion as a career.

Blaine was looking around Kurt's room in silence, taking in the posters, the sketches, and his work station. When Kurt made eye contact with Blaine again, Blaine had a look of amazement in his eyes. Kurt felt very exposed. His room was his safe place and the place he could really be himself. He was giving Blaine an inside look into his mind and soul. Most people would think this to be stupid. A room is just a room, a place to sleep, but it wasn't to Kurt. No one besides his dad has seen his room. Not like Kurt has ever had a friend before anyway.

Blaine finally sent Kurt a gentle smile and motioned with his head in the direction of the bed since Kurt didn't have any other furnisher to sit on.

They both say down and Blaine took out his notebook and pen from his book bag that he took up to Kurt's room. He began to write:

"You're room is amazing Kurt. I didn't know you could make your own clothes. Your sketches look amazing."

"Thanks. It's something I like to do. I've always enjoyed fashion and I like making my own clothes. It's just a hobby of mine." Kurt responded.

"Is that what you're going to pursue as a career?"

"No, I never wanted to be a fashion designer. I think it would make fashion less fun. It's a very intense and stressful career path. I don't want to lose myself in that world. I want to always love fashion and making clothes."

"But you could be famous and make tons of money."

"I don't want fame and money, Blaine."

Blaine scrunched his eyebrows and looked at Kurt confused. He took the pen from Kurt to respond.

"Why not? Isn't that what everyone wants?"

Kurt took a second to figure out a way to explain to Blaine what he really wanted. Honestly, Kurt didn't really know himself.

"When I was a kid I wanted to be a famous Broadway star. Obviously I can't do that anymore. After I lost my hearing, I kind of lost myself. I can tell you about it another time. I'm just not ready yet to share that part of me, but years later, I think I know who I am. I'm still working on a dream for myself. Whatever career I choose though, I just want to be me. I want to just be happy. I don't want to lose myself ever again. I don't want to change; I just want to be me."

Kurt looked at Blaine as he reads his message. He honestly doesn't know if Blaine will understand. Not many people would. Wasn't that the point of life these days? Dream big, make tons of money, live an extravagant life. After all Kurt has been through, maybe this would be a good life to dream of, however, he knows that life is too short, precious, and temporary to get lost in some dream. There are no guarantees that money and fame would bring him happiness. In Kurt's short life, he knows that happiness isn't found in material things, but in his passions, fashion and his biggest passion of all, music.

Blaine finished reading Kurt's note, and his thoughts were swirling. How could Kurt only wish for happiness? Isn't that too simple? Kurt hadn't always been deaf? It also made Blaine worry about Kurt. He picked the pen up again and responded to Kurt.

"Are you not already happy?"

Kurt gave Blaine a small smile, and responded.

"I have my moments of happiness like when I sit here alone working on a design or when I play music on the piano. I find some happiness in my solitude. I don't find happiness at school though where no one understands me. But I know that that's just life. I'm not always going to be happy and I've always just understood that's the way it's going to be. I'll find my own happiness someday, just not right now. I have to keep going though, like I always have."

Blaine was taken aback by Kurt's words. He really wasn't happy. He became a little sad at that and curious of Kurt's life. Most importantly, Blaine wanted to give happiness to Kurt. He just didn't know how. Blaine took the notebook and pen out of Kurt's hands and held onto them and gave a little, reassuring squeeze. Blaine then released Kurt's hands and lifted his own. Blaine had been doing a little studying this week for Kurt.

After their first real talk, Blaine had developed feelings for Kurt. He wasn't even sure how it happened. Their conversations couldn't flow well due to the writing, but in a way it didn't feel like a hardship. Although their conversations didn't go into too much depth due to limited amounts of time to write, Blaine had felt a connection to Kurt. He had learned to sign a phrase hoping he would have the courage to show Kurt, and not scare him off. He didn't even know Kurt well and thought Kurt was maybe one of the strongest and bravest people he knew. Blaine signed to Kurt, "You're beautiful."

When he had learned the sign he was thinking of Kurt's physical beauty, however, in this moment, Kurt's beauty extended past the physical. Kurt was beautiful inside and out. Blaine wanted to get to know him and to protect him.

Kurt just stared into Blaine's hazel eyes trying to understand what Blaine meant. Surely he didn't really think Kurt was beautiful. To people in Kurt's world, he was damaged, not beautiful. Kurt just shook his head at Blaine and turned his eyes away, growing uncomfortable with the attention. Blaine gently touched Kurt's chin and signed again looking intently into Kurt's eyes,

"You're beautiful, Kurt."

Blaine was closer to Kurt than he was a second ago. Kurt's heart beat increased and his face began to turn red. He couldn't turn away from Blaine's gaze, and his proximity was making Kurt's brain short circuit. Blaine raised his hands again, ready to sign the other phrase he was hoping he would have the courage to sign,

"I like you. I like you a lot."

Blaine continued to inch closer to Kurt now looking at his lips. Kurt just sat there frozen into place, not believing what Blaine was saying to him. When Blaine's lips touched Kurt's, Kurt literally felt his breath was taken away as his eyes fluttered shut. Blaine applied more pressure into the kiss making Kurt respond by putting his hand on the side of Blaine's head ready to pull him closer. His lips began to open slightly as did Blaine's, and their lips moved together slowly and gently. Nothing had felt so perfect to Kurt. He never wanted this kiss to end.

Blaine slowly pulled away from Kurt, ending the kiss. He looked at Kurt who still had his eyes closed, breathing heavier than usual. After a moment his eyes fluttered open and a big smile graced his lips. Kurt lifted his hands and signed to Blaine.

"I like you too."

Blaine chuckled at Kurt. He was so happy and relieved that he now knew Kurt felt the same about him. He thought Kurt would only want a friendship from him seeing how closed off he was from everyone at McKinley. Blaine still didn't hesitate to sign up for sign language classes during his time online to learn phrases for Kurt. Taking a sign language class three times a week would still have been worth it for just having a friendship, but now learning Kurt's language seemed even more important. Blaine wanted to take things slow, but he also wanted to ask Kurt then and there to be his boyfriend. But they still had so many things to learn about each other, and he needed to ask Kurt properly. Not through texting or writing, but communicating Kurt's way, through sign.

Blaine's phone went off, pulling him away from his thoughts. It was his mother. He shot Kurt and apologetic look and answered his phone.

"Hello?"

"Blaine, where are you? School has been out for hours." Replied his mother.

"I'm at a friend's house Mother."

"Well, I need you to come back now please Blaine."

"But I have one more hour before curfew." Blaine said as he looked at Kurt's clock on his nightstand.

"I don't care Blaine. You're father and I want you home. We need to talk to you before we head out on business tomorrow morning." Replied Blaine's mother stiffly.

"Fine, I'm coming now. I'll be there in 20 minutes. Goodbye Mother."

Blaine ended the call after a formal good bye and looked back at Kurt. He grabbed the notebook and pen on the bed and started writing.

"Sorry, that was my mother. My parents requested I come home now, so I need to leave. Thank you for having me tonight. I had fun."

Kurt gave Blaine another smile and responded, "I had fun too Blaine. Thanks for coming."

Blaine wrote back to Kurt, "Would you like to go on a date with me next Friday after school? I promise I won't be late this time. Rachel can yell at me all she wants."

Kurt gave a silent chuckled and responded, "I would love to go on a date with you Blaine."

After Blaine read Kurt's note he stood up from the bed and offered his hand to Kurt. He took Blaine's hand and allowed him to assist him into standing. After they were both standing, Blaine didn't release Kurt's hand. Instead, Blaine began to walk out of Kurt's room taking Kurt with him.

As they walk done the hall, Kurt realized his dad's bedroom door was closed. He must have gone to bed early, which Kurt was thankful for. He didn't need his dad embarrassing him tomorrow for holding hands with Blaine.

They made it to the front door and Kurt opened the door for Blaine, stepping onto the porch with him.

"Goodnight Kurt." Blain signed. They didn't bring the notebook with them so their communication was now limited. Blaine hoped that soon communication would no longer be an issue for them.

Kurt signed goodnight to Blaine as well, and hugged Blaine to try to communicate how happy he was that he came over. Blaine accepted the hug and after a moment pulled back slightly and leaned in to kiss Kurt again. This kiss was chaste compared to the first one, but it still felt amazing to the boys. It was a perfect way to end the evening.

Both boys pulled away from each with identical smiles on their faces. Blaine stepped away from Kurt and began walking to his bike. Blaine turned around and gave a final wave to Kurt before hopping on his bike and pedaling down Kurt's street.

Kurt stepped back into the house, closing the door behind him, his smile never leaving his face. In the empty, dimly lit foyer, Kurt did a little happy dance that he hadn't done since before his mother's passing. At the top of the dark stairwell, Burt stood looking down at his son with a smile to match Kurt's and a tear coming down his face.
