"Who would this man be, if I may ask?" Elphaba questioned suspiciously.
"Well… you're not going to like it…" hesitated Edward. He stepped aside to reveal Elphaba's worst adversary: the Wizard of Oz. Though he was a short, kind-looking old man, everyone in the group, especially Elphaba, knew the truth.
The green skinned girl darted in front of Bella and the Cullens. "If it's me you want, leave the others out of this!" she growled.
"Relax," the Wizard calmed. "I just came to return your baseball."
"Yeah, right!"
"No, seriously I did! Well… there is something I want to talk to you about. It's about… about your mother."
Elphaba's very blood seemed to freeze. Did she heard right? The man whom she swore on her life to defeat wanted to talk to her about her mother? "My mom died twenty years ago," Elphaba remembered out loud. "I was just a toddler. What could you possibly know?"
"All I know is that the love of my life died twenty years ago, also," explained the Wizard. "And… she was your mother. Elphaba, you have a bottle of green elixir that she drank from, correct?"
"Yes."
"It looks like this, doesn't it?"
From his jacket sleeve, he pulled out a small bottle that was filled with a green liquid. This majorly freaked Elphaba out, because hers looked exactly like it, except less full. What did this mean? "Elphaba…" the Wizard began tentatively. "I think… I think you're my daughter…"
Everyone froze. Edward seemed to recover from the shock the quickest and began to sniff the air. "What are you doing?" Bella hissed at him, also recovered.
"I'm trying to smell Elphaba's and the Wizard's blood," he explained, as if she was supposed to know that. "That way, I can tell if they're really related." But as he started to smell, Edward suddenly was overcome with a desire for this blood, for human blood, the way it was with Bella. Luckily, he controlled himself and broke the news to the quarreling Ozians.
"You two… you are related," Edward said. "It's very faint, Elphaba, but I can smell a part of his blood inside you… it's true, I guess… he is your father…"
Pure shock and anger swept over the witch. She wasn't quite sure if she was angry at the Wizard, herself, or both. As she began to tremble, Alice stepped forward and grasped her hand.
"All my life… I looked up to you…!" Elphaba began, tears flowing down her cheeks. "I thought… you really were the great and powerful Wizard of Oz…! But… it was all a lie… it was just smoke… and m-m-mirrors… you have no real power! And when I swore to defy you until my death, I knew… I was leaving… my father… and my s-s-sister… when all along… my real father… was you! You lied to me… plus everyone in Oz! You didn't know… you were d-deceiving your own d-daughter, did you?! And you… were never there… f-for me or… or even l-loved me! Didn't you ever… ever l-love m-me?! DID YOU?!"
Crying even harder, Elphaba collapsed onto the ground. Alice backed away after giving her friend a few pats on the back, because the Wizard had knelt down in front of her and attempted to comfort her. Bella started to move forward, but Edward and Alice held her back. As for the other Cullens, Carlisle and Esme both felt sympathetic, Emmett and Jasper were trying to trying to find words of comfort to say to her, and Rosalie felt like destroying something because to her, the more humans lingering around like this, the more danger the family was in.
"Elphaba… Elphaba, of course I loved you," the Wizard consoled his daughter. "I still love you quite dearly… but like you, I never knew you were my daughter. I couldn't be with you, especially because the Ozians were counting on me to leave them. When Melena… that's your mother's name… when she died, I was devastated. I thought there was nothing left of our love. Even when I found out she had two daughters, I knew I couldn't walk up to your 'father' and tell him you might be my daughter."
"Well, you should have!" Elphaba sobbed. "It's not f-f-fair! I never, n-n-never got to spend any time with y-you… and when I did, it was all… all a w-waste!" She buried her face deep into her father's chest and continued weeping. "It's alright now, Elphaba…" soothed the Wizard. "It'll be okay… I'm here now… your father…" Tears fell from the Wizard's eyes as he put his arms around Elphaba's shaking shoulders and hugged her.
Being ostracized by her fake father, Elphaba never really knew what paternal love felt like. Now, here in the Wizard's arms, she felt a warm happiness… she felt, for the first time, a parent's love. For the first time, she felt a surge of affection and protectiveness between herself and this man… her father. Her family…
Suddenly, Alice grew rigid. "Elphaba, Wizard, get behind me!" she commanded. Knowing that Alice was probably sensing something dangerous in the very near future (like, very, very near) , Elphaba abruptly got out of the Wizard's grip and stood up. The Wizard, sensing something was wrong, also rose and joined his daughter behind Alice.
Three intimidating teenagers were approaching them. One had dark skin and long, black hair. The girl to his right had blonde hair, light skin, and a couple of freckles here and there. The male all the way to the left had ghost pale skin and short, blonde hair. They all had the same deep, amber eyes. Vampires, Elphaba knew immediately. She squeezed the Wizard's hand. There was no way in Oz she was going to lose the father that actually loved her.
"Hello," greeted Carlisle, stepping forward to handle this.
"We saw a human around these parts," explained the dark-skinned one. "We just wanted to make sure it didn't get to you."
"Oh, it didn't. Thank you for your consideration."
"You're welcome," grinned the girl vampire, and the sickly sweet voice she used made Elphaba very uneasy. The trio of weirdos were actually going to leave, but the blonde male stayed behind, glaring at everyone.
"Come on, James," said the other male, whose name was Laurent. But James didn't budge. He and Edward seemed to be in an intense staring contest, but Edward was really reading James' mind. The Cullen teen let out a low growl suddenly, and his enemy joined his friends, who faded away into the misty forest.
