AN: I'm sorry it took me so long to update you guys! I started a new job and have had little to no time to write or update. Things should start to slow down soon though, and with 3B starting very soon, I can't wait to get back into this story full force! I was a little concerned though, there were no reviews on the last chapter, did you guys not like it? Let me know what you think so that I can make adjustments, I'm always open to suggestions!
Chapter 32
Scarlet and Derek met up with Stiles and the three of them headed over to the station. "Ok, now the key to every cell is in a password protected lockbox in my dad's office, now the problem is getting past the front desk," Stiles explained.
"I'll distract her," Derek said as he started to climb out of the car.
"Woah, woah, woah, you are not going in there," Stiles said as he grabbed Derek's arm.
"Wanted criminal remember," Scarlet asked.
Derek stared at Stiles and he slowly pulled his hand back. "I'm taking my hand off!"
"I was exonerated," Derek reminded them.
"You're still a person of interest," Stiles replied.
"An innocent person!"
"An- you? Yeah right," Stiles exclaimed.
"Oh my god," Scarlet groaned.
"Ok, fine, what's your plan," Stiles asked.
"To distract her," Derek replied.
"How? By punching her in the face," Stiles asked.
"By talking to her," Derek said.
"Ok, give me a sample. What are you going to open with?"
"Really Stiles? Just let him go, he's a lot more distracting than you will be," Scarlet muttered.
Derek didn't say anything and Stiles continued to stare at him. "Dead silence? That should work beautifully," Stiles commented. "Any other ideas?"
"I'm thinking about punching you in the face," Derek replied.
"Ok, no one is punching anyone in the face, so let's just get this show on the road," Scarlet said with a clap of her hands. Derek smirked at Stiles before kissing Scarlet on the cheek and climbing out of the car. "Be careful!"
"You be careful too," Derek said before heading toward the building.
They gave him a few second headstart before heading inside. Scarlet rolled eyes as she listened to Derek tell the lady at the desk how beautiful she was. Stiles yanked her down the hallway to their dad's office. Stiles opened the lockbox and groaned.
"They aren't here," he whispered.
"Where are they," Scarlet hissed back. Their eyes widened when they heard keys clinking together.
"Oh no," they said together and rushed out of the room. They made their ways through the hallway. Pausing when they ran into an officer.
"Whoa, um, we're just looking for um," Stiles started to say. He glanced down and saw the arrow in officer's leg. "Oh, sh.."
Stiles didn't get a chance to finish his statement, the officer grabbed him and put a hand over his mouth. Scarlet started to run away, but the man grabbed her arm. "I'll kill you and your brother, now come with me," he ordered.
Scarlet jerked away from him, but slowly trailed after him, hoping Derek would know that they were in trouble. As the man drug Stiles down the hallway, he began to struggle and managed to hit the fire alarm. The man dropped Stiles on the floor and Stiles scrambled away from him. He froze when he noticed that the cell door was missing from Isaac's cell.
Isaac came from out of nowhere and shoved the guy against the desk before throwing him against the opposite wall. Stiles scrambled behind the desk and Scarlet rushed over to him. Isaac made the man drop the syringe he was holding and slammed his head against the wall. Derek stepped on the syringe and broke it.
Scarlet slid out from behind the desk and started toward Derek. Isaac turned and stared at her, a bloodthirsty look in his eyes. He took one step toward her, and Scarlet froze in fear. Derek roared loudly at Isaac and he immediately came back to himself and huddled against the far wall. Isaac glanced back at them and his face had changed back to normal.
Scarlet stepped over the man and offered Isaac her hand. "Are you ok," she asked gently as she helped him to his feet.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know what I was doing," Isaac explained.
"How did you do that," Stiles asked.
"I'm the alpha," Derek said with a smirk.
"Guys, we have to go," Scarlet said before moving toward Derek.
"I'll stay," Stiles offered. "Take the jeep and get them out of here." He tossed her the keys and she smiled gratefully before following Derek and Isaac back out to the jeep. She quickly drove them back over to the subway station.
Isaac practically leapt out of the jeep and rushed inside. Derek sat there with Scarlet for a moment. "Are you ok," he asked.
"Yeah, I'm just worried about him. He's a nice guy, he doesn't deserve what he's been through," Scarlet said softly.
"He would have hurt you tonight."
"I know, but he doesn't have control yet. He'll get there, you'll help him."
"I'll see you later ok? I have to make sure he's ok," Derek replied.
"Ok," Scarlet said softly. She kissed Derek on the cheek and smiled at him. "I'll see you later."
...
Derek showed up later that night, tapping on her window. Scarlet smiled when she saw and quickly let him in. "What are you doing here? How's Isaac?"
"He's fine, I think what happened at the station shook him up, he's got it under control for now."
Scarlet sat down on her bed and drew her knees up to her chest. "Derek, are you going to keep changing people," she asked.
Derek sat down next to her and ran a hand through his hair. "I have to, I need a pack, but I'm only doing it if I'm asked. Why?"
"It just feels... I don't know, wrong. I mean how do you know that Isaac can handle this? How do you know anyone else can handle it?"
"I don't, which is why I am responsible for them. If they can't handle it, I take care of it."
"You kill them," Scarlet surmised.
"I created the problem, I would have to fix it."
"How did Jackson handle tonight," she asked.
"Don't know, as far as I know, he rejected the bite," Derek explained. "Is that a painting of me?"
"Huh, oh yeah, it was... I did it when we had that fight a few weeks ago and I kicked you out," Scarlet explained. She rose from the bed and flipped it over. "I probably shouldn't have it sitting around, if my dad sees it I will never hear the end of it."
Derek smiled at her as she sat down on the bed again. She rested her head on his shoulder and let out a soft sigh. Derek shifted on the bed and leaned against the headboard. Scarlet settled against him, curling into his side.
"Why can't things always be like this," she whispered. "This is what I'm talking about when I say normal."
"I'm sorry, about what I said about Scott not knowing what love is, I... I didn't mean you didn't know. Scott has no idea what he's getting into with an Argent. You and Scott aren't the same people."
"So you don't think I'm too young for you?"
"Scarlet," Derek said as he laced his fingers with hers. "We are meant to be together, our age has no bearing on this. We are mates, that goes above everything else."
