Chapter 33

The next morning at school Scarlet had just gotten out of class when she saw Jackson shouting at Lydia. "YOU RUINED EVERYTHING!"

Lydia remained frozen to that spot as Jackson walked away. He paused briefly and looked back at her before shaking his head and walking off. Scarlet darted over to Lydia and put a hand on her shoulder.

"Are you ok Lydia," she asked gently. "Can I do anything?"

"I... I'm...," Lydia mumbled as she stepped around Scarlet and darted into the bathroom. Scarlet sighed and shook her head before going to class. It was going to be a long day.

...

Scarlet arrived at lunch just as Erica made her entrance. Scarlet felt her mouth drop open as Erica strode past her and smirked. "Love your outfit," Erica said calmly.

"Yeah, you too," Scarlet said as she watched her walk away. Stiles and Scott came running up to her and grabbed her arms pulling her after them. The three of them came out the front door just as Erica was climbing into someone's car.

Scarlet gasped when she realized it was Derek's, what was he doing with Erica? Derek grinned at Scott and Stiles before gunning out of there.

"What the hell," Stiles cried as he stared after them. "Did you know about this?"

"How the hell was I supposed to know," Scarlet demanded.

"Maybe because Derek has slept in your room every night this week," Stiles shot back.

"How did you know that?"

"I have my ways."

"Enough, obviously he changed her. I have a feeling this is going to get ugly," Scott replied.

"What do you mean," Scarlet asked.

"Hot werewolf girl, hot werewolf guy, its only a matter of time," Stiles explained. At the look on Scarlet's face, Scott hit him in the arm. Stiles glanced at Scarlet and blanched. "I mean, if he weren't with you already, maybe she'll go for Isaac, he seems like he'd be more her type."

Scarlet glanced in the direction that Derek had driven off. "Yeah, Isaac is totally her type," she said lowly before heading back inside.

...

As soon as school let out, Scarlet went straight over to the subway station. She hurried down the stairs, coming face to face with Erica halfway down.

"What are you doing here? Your daddy send you to spy on us," Erica asked in an overly sweet voice.

"Move," Scarlet said lowly.

"Make me, oh wait you can't."

"Erica, get out of my way."

"Erica," Isaac called as he came into view. "Leave her alone, she's one of us."

"She's human Isaac, she's not one of us," Erica countered.

"I'm Derek's mate, he probably failed to mention that during your makeover," Scarlet snapped.

"Derek has a mate," Erica said lowly.

"Yeah, I do, now get out of her way," Derek snapped as he stepped out of the subway car. Erica glanced between the two of them before moving aside. Scarlet rushed down the stairs, and gave Derek an angry look.

"We need to talk, now," Scarlet said lowly.

"It will have to wait, we have somewhere to be," Derek replied.

"You can't be serious right now."

"Wait here, we'll talk when I get back."

"What am I supposed to do," Scarlet asked as he headed toward the stairs.

"We'll be back soon, don't worry," Derek called over his shoulder. Erica smirked at her as she followed him up the stairs. Scarlet flipped her off before letting out a scream of frustration. Stiles was right, this was bad.

Scarlet hated it, but she did what Derek asked and she waited. She sat inside the subway car on Derek's mattress doing her homework. She shrugged out of her sweater, and pulled her hair up on top of her head. She was so involved in what she was doing, she jumped when someone cleared their throat.

Derek grinned at her before sitting on the mattress with her. "I"m glad I found you and not Isaac or Boyd," he said as he glanced over her.

Scarlet glanced down and realized that her bra was visible through her shirt. She blushed and reached for her sweater. Derek tossed it out of her reach and shook his head at her.

"What did you want to talk about," he asked to distract her.

"Why her," Scarlet asked. "Why do you need a girl? I mean you could have picked anyone, why did it have to be her? I mean... she's... now that she's so...," Scarlet trailed off and glanced down at her hands.

"Hot," Derek filled in. Scarlet made an annoyed sound and glanced up at him. She slowly nodded her head. "Scarlet, I wanted it to be you, but you aren't ready. I understand that, but I have to have a pack, and this has helped Erica. She isn't epileptic anymore, she doesn't have to deal with the side affects from the medication. If I had it my way, it would be you, but Erica knew what she was getting into. You were right, I didn't tell her about you, but that's because it was none of her business."

"You told Isaac, why shouldn't Erica know? And you mentioned Boyd earlier, what does he have to do...," Scarlet trailed off when she realized what Derek meant. "You changed him too. What did you do?"

"It doesn't matter, everything is fine now."

Scarlet pressed both her hands to the sides of Derek's face and pressed her forehead to his. She immediately saw the fight he had with Scott, she watched all of it through Derek's eyes, even saw Scott fight with Isaac and Erica.

"Why can't you just leave him alone," Scarlet demanded as she pulled away from Derek. She began gathering up her things, jerking away from Derek when he grabbed her arm.

"I need him Scarlet."

"So you talk to him! You don't beat him up, Derek, this thing between the two of you is getting out of hand! I'm stuck in the middle whether you want me there or not, he's one of my best friends."

"Like Jackson," Derek shot back in annoyance.

"Jackson has nothing to do with this! While we're on it though, you need to talk to him, explain what has happened! You don't know how badly he wanted the bite Derek. He's getting crazy over not changing."

"Please, Jackson is a big boy, he can take care of himself."

"You are such an asshole sometimes, you can't just go around changing people because I said no! You also don't get to decide who can know about us and who can't! You should have told her, she's not going to understand this relationship! She's going to think that she can...," Scarlet trailed off and shook her head at him. "You know what, forget it. Obviously, your pack is your priority right now."

Scarlet grabbed her backpack and rushed out of the car. She knew Derek was right behind her, but she didn't stop. Scarlet brushed past Isaac who was standing at the bottom of the stairs and hurried up. She pushed open the door to the outside and hurried out. She walked quickly down the sidewalk, not looking where she was going.

It wasn't until she was blinded by headlights that she even slowed down. The car laid on its horn, but it was too close to stop. Scarlet screamed as she felt something collide with her body, she hit the ground hard gasping for breath.

The car didn't stop just kept going. Scarlet slowly opened her eyes and saw Isaac kneeling over her. She drew in a shaky breath and started to sit up.

"Woah, wait a second, are you sure you aren't hurt? I hit you pretty hard," Isaac said as he pushed her back down. Scarlet grunted softly and stared up at him.

"Are we laying in the street? I'd hate to get runover because you wouldn't let me get up," Scarlet replied.

Isaac rolled his eyes at her and stood up, offering her a hand to help her. Scarlet swayed slightly, when she got to her feet, falling forward into Isaac.

"I think you hit your head when you fell."

"You mean when you knocked me down," Scarlet asked.

"That car would have killed you and then Derek would have killed me, I'm still waiting for a thank you," Isaac said as he easily picked her up.

"Thank you," Scarlet mumbled. "What are you doing out here anyway?"

"Derek, he asked me to keep an eye on you. Good thing too."

"He's too busy with Boyd and Erica to take care of me himself."

"What's your deal with her anyway," Isaac asked curiously as he carried her down the street.

"I don't want to talk about it," Scarlet said as she glanced around. "Where are you taking me?"

"To your house."

"How do you know...," Scarlet trailed off when she remembered. "Never mind."

"It's ok, not everyone likes to hang out with the little kid they called their husband in elemantary school, once they get to high school," Isaac said with an easy grin.

"You were the best elemantary school husband I ever had if that makes you feel better."

"Its ok, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kind of glad we stopped hanging out. When... when your mom died, I had no idea what to say to you, I mean my mom left us, but yours didn't have a choice. Then by the time we hit high school, you were so...," Isaac glanced down at her for a moment. "You were so busy, I didn't want to bug you."

"You weren't going to say busy, were you," Scarlet asked.

"No, I was going to say beautiful, but I thought I probably shouldn't say that to you."

"Because of Derek."

"Because of Derek," Isaac agreed.

"You can put me down you know, I feel ok now," Scarlet pointed out. Isaac easily set her on her feet. She smiled at him for a moment before falling into step next to him. "So, do you like it? Being a werewolf I mean?"

"Yeah, aside from the whole fugitive thing, its great. Derek, has really helped me. I mean, he listens to us, and he tries to help us as best he can. I know it feels like he's putting us before you, but he's doing all of this for you, to protect you," Isaac explained.

Scarlet shook her head at him. "Isaac, you don't want to get in the middle of what is going on with Derek and I right now. The issue between him and Scott has always been a problem for us, and obviously Derek isn't ready to let that go. Tell him I'll come by in the morning and we'll talk then ok?"

"Hey, maybe I want to be in the middle, you ever think about that," Isaac asked with a grin.

Scarlet rolled her eyes at him. "Is there anything you need? Anything I can do for you? I mean you did save my life tonight."

"Real food and clean clothes would be greatly appreciated."

"I think I can handle that, I'll bring you some stuff in the morning. And thank you, for saving me."

"Anytime," Isaac said. They had just arrived at the end of her driveway and she could see that Stiles was home but the jeep wasn't there.

"I'll see you later, ok," Scarlet said as she started toward the house.

"Later Scar," Isaac called before walking away.

Scarlet rushed into the house and up the stairs. She burst into Stiles' room without knocking. "Is the jeep still at the shop?"

"No, the jeep has been impounded."

"Why the hell was it impounded," Scarlet cried.

"Because it is a piece of evidence in a murder case," Stiles explained.

"Oh my god, Stiles did you run over someone?!"

"No! That, that thing, the shape shifter thing, it used the jeep to crush the mechanic at the shop!"

"What shapeshifter thing?"

"Oh my god, the thing that came after Scott and Alison on the full moon? Did we not tell you about it," Stiles demanded.

"No, you haven't! Does Derek know about it?"

"I have no idea," Stiles cried before flopping back on the bed. "It paralyzed me, I don't know... there was this stuff on the door handle. I had to watch... I had to watch him die Scarlet."

"Stiles," Scarlet said sympathetically as she sat down next to him. "I'm so sorry, are you ok?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, but dad can not know about the reptile thing."

"How the hell would we explain that anyway?"

"My point exactly. Is Derek coming over tonight," Stiles asked.

"No, we uh, we had a fight."

"About what? Wait, let me guess, Erica."

"Ding, ding, ding, he also changed Boyd."

"Yeah we know," Stiles explained. "Hey, maybe its not as bad as you think. Maybe she won't even be attracted to Derek."

"Yeah, and maybe it will start raining lollipops," Scarlet said as she rose from the bed.

"Hey, you never know," Stiles called after her as she left the room.
