Chapter 19
Natasha and Clint had stayed in their place for hours, Natasha going back and forth from Tony and Bruce and then back to Clint when it was obvious she was just in the way.
Bruce and Tony had hooked up the old model of the arc reactor to Tony for the time being, since the one that was once in use was now pulled apart on the workbench while Bruce worked swiftly but carefully while he plugged the explosive wire up.
Tony was watching every move Bruce made, which of course made Bruce nervous. But to not watch would make Tony nervous.
Natasha finally found a spot to stay put, on an empty workbench she sat next to where Tony was sitting watching Bruce.
She noticed the sheen of sweat clinging to the billionaire as he shook slightly.
"You okay?" she asked, trying to take his eyes off of Bruce's hands, get his mind off of it.
"Let's just say I made the new models for a reason," Tony said through clenched teeth.
Bruce glanced over out of concern until he noticed the glare from Tony that was directed at him.
"Sorry, I'm almost done," Bruce went back to the reactor.
Minutes turned into hours, and then the sun shone through the single window at the back of the room, alerting the the group in the workshop to the morning.
Natasha had tried to get Tony to go to sleep a few times, but when it was apparent he wouldn't even allow himself to move from his chair, she let him be.
Clint had started snoring around 3 in the morning, earning a smirk from Natasha, and an eye roll from Tony.
Bruce hadn't even considered sleep, working feverishly and carefully.
Tony had finally stopped watching Bruce's work and let his eyes wander to the computer screen, where he attempted to look busy.
"Wha- da- what?" Clint yelled around 6 am as he fell from the chair comically, "I need to stop falling to sleep on chairs that are above cement floors..." Clint rubbed his shoulder and gave a pouty face to Natasha.
Clint never has been a morning person, Natasha thought to herself.
Bruce's hand slipped and a wrench fell to the ground, crashing against the cement with a loud CLANG.
Tony spun around in his desk chair quickly, twisting the wire's in his chest around the chair and himself in the process. He was sure he'd turn to find his arc reactor broken, lying in pieces on the ground.
"What was that!" Tony questioned, his eyes zooming to the wrench on the floor.
"Don't ever do that again," Natasha sat back on the workbench, a sigh of relief emanated from her.
"Sorry," Bruce apologized, "I'm done."
Tony ran a hand through his hair, "Took you long enough," he joked sarcastically.
He grabbed the reactor from Bruce's outstretched hand and unattached the old model from himself. He spun around the new model one until he heard a click.
"It worked," Bruce seemed relieved, and if he could have, he'd have patted himself on the back.
LINE BREAK! DA DA DA DA DA DA LIINNNEEE BREAK! THE LINE BREAK SYMPHONY HAS ARRIVED FROM THE CITY OF LINE BREAKIA!
After the all nighter, Bruce and Natasha went to sleep.
"Aren't you going to bed?" Natasha called back into the main room, where Thor, Tony, Steve, and Clint sat talking and eating from cereal bowls.
"I will, maybe," Tony shrugged, then received a warning look from Clint, which clearly said, "Tony, I don't want to be the one to find you dead in the stairwell, if I were you, I'd listen to Mommy Tasha."
"I will," he revised his statement.
"Good," Natasha turned and went to her room to sleep.
"What are you telling Pepper?" Steve questioned finally, bringing all eyes to Tony's bright red face.
"I will... Make something believable up."
Will Pepper believe him? I don't think so!
Alright, so... I would love some requests for the last chapter.
I will make it rather long, of course.
I'm thinking a fight scene between the Avengers and some evil villain and then some shwarma? Not Thanos or Ultron, but someone cool for sure.
