Chapter 22

"Hey Tony, what's goin' on?" Rhodey answered quickly and casually, "One sec, other line."

"Rhodey- WAIT!-" Tony tried to cut in before Rhodey switched lines, since he knew it'd be Bruce, after trying to call Tony in the suit and finding the ID blocked, Rhodey would no doubt be his second option.

About half a minute passed and Rhodey came back onto Tony's line.

"Tony, you still here?" Rhodey asked, a lot more alert than he'd sounded moments earlier.

"Was that Banner." Tony said, a question not at all necessary.

"What's going on." Rhodey answered in the same unquestioning tone.

"Long story."

"I've got time."

"I don't."

"Talk."

"Some sort of metal got into the tower undetected, and it looks like the same metal I used for a new War Machine attachment, you have the suit around?" Tony explained, hoping Rhodey hadn't completely demolished his suit since the last time they met.

"It's fine, I've taken care of it. Why are you blowing off your tower buddies?" Rhodey tried far too hard to sound casual, Tony thought to himself.

"This has nothing to do with them, we can deal with it," Tony replied simply, hoping to leave it at that.

"I don't doubt we could deal with it, but Bruce sounded really...- Angry," Rhodey replied uneasily.

"He won't hulk out just cause I missed a dinner date, relax," Tony told him seriously, their old joking ways making a reappearance.

"Fine, then you wanna meet at the tower?" Rhodey said, an annoying tone coming to his voice.

"Rhodey. No. We can just examine the metal at-..." Quick, Tony thought, think of another place with an electro pulse counter that works at the same time as a metallic substance scanner. He came up with nothing, considering his old one was broken and at the bottom of the ocean after his house was blown up, "Never mind, that scanner was drowned."

"So the tower?" Rhodey finally said after a long awkward pause.

"I guess," Tony relented, turning his repulsers around and back towards Avenger's Tower.

Okay, I know, short chapter. But I have lots of things to do! Sorry :(!
