It's been a while, SORRY! :(
Chapter 27
"Thanks." Clint's voice was the first thing he was aware of, as the dark black transformed into bright white and then faded again to the light wall coloring of a Shield medical room.
"No problem, bird brain." Tony rubbed his hand over his face as he sat up, looking around the room to find nobody but the archer.
There were burn marks on his arms, but no proof of them anywhere else. Jarvis probably locked the rest of the suit down before the repulser could do permanent damage. See? He is good for something. Tony thought to himself.
"They went to get food." Clint said in explanation, leaning back in an uncomfortable looking hospital chair.
"Pepper?" Tony asked, knowing Natasha, being the annoying fake assistant she was, would have called Pepper first.
"Airport someplace in Colorado, couldn't get a flight until tomorrow." Clint told him with a shrug.
"How much did Romanoff say?" Tony asked, leaning back against the frame of the bed.
"Enough for her to take a flight that wasn't first class." Clint chuckled.
"She must be going crazy!" Tony laughed too, "When'll she be back?"
"Few hours, I guess." Clint said unsure.
"Obidiah." Tony finally asked the only question he currently cared about.
"In custody." Clint told him defensively.
"You didn't kill him?" Tony asked, completely stunned.
"Don't you want to know how he's still alive? How he built that suit? Where he got an arc reactor?" Clint listed the endless things they could gather from Obidiah's knowledge.
"He can't keep getting second chances." Tony said seriously, glaring over at the archer.
"He is in a cell, and will be for the rest of his life. Tony, he's not escaping from this one." Clint said assuringly, putting a hand on the genius' shoulder in an attempt to settle him down.
"Son of a bitch deserves a heck of a lot worse than a cell." Tony said sternly, then noticed someone he would recognize anywhere looking in from the hallway's window.
Clint followed his gaze and waved Rhodey in.
"Go ahead, say it." Tony looked pleased with himself.
"Say what?" Rhodey asked with an eye roll.
"My suits are indestructible." Tony said in satisfaction, Clint shook his head with a smirk on his face.
"I'm not gonna argue that one." Rhodey said with a smile, then said, "Escaped the ten rings, survived space, and now you can say that you've been fried." Rhodey said with a laugh.
Tony flinched at the mention of surviving space, but it went unnoticed by the others in the room, who were too busy giggling like schoolgirls.
Back at the tower...
"I'm waiting for you back at the tower." Tony had a cellphone pressed against his ear as he walked into the main room where everyone had cracked opened fast-food containers and plastic cups. "Yes, I remembered to copy the paperwork for you... No I didn't break the printer!... Of course I did, and if I didn't, Jarvis will." Tony grabbed a beer off of the bar and then finished his phone call, "I'll see you soon. Love you too. Bye."
When he'd hung up, Natasha called over to him from where she was sitting eating from a Chinese carton with her legs crossed on Clint's lap. "Pepper?"
"Yeah." Tony answered, grabbing his own container and sitting down next to the archer and assassin.
"She's on her way?"
"Five hours down the road."
After everyone finished eating besides Natasha and Tony, who were watching some tv show with their 3/4 drained beer bottles in their hands.
"Thanks Stark." She said after the automated laughs from whatever show they were watching subsided.
He nodded, but didn't feel the need to reply.
Some things are best left unspoken.
SOOO... Ironwidow ending... Sort of?
Idk whether I ship them as a couple, but as friends they're adorable.
