"This is it." Beetee whispered gripping Wiress' hand as the cameras showed Cato in his head to toe body armor walking toward the Cornucopia. Peeta and Katniss were slightly ahead of them also on their way to where they knew the Games would end.

"I know." Wiress whispered as she gulped watching Haymitch's screen as he muttered curses watching a pod indicator blink. "Oh no -"

"Always at the end." Beetee muttered. "Save the best for last." He muttered sarcastically knowing the Gamemakers saved their worst interventions for the end of the Games.

"WHAT THE SNOW!" Brutus screamed twenty-one dog-like muttations ran at his tribute. "SNOW-DAMMIT, RUN, BOY RUN!" Other mentors gasped and cried out as they got a closer look at the mutts. Haymitch joined the fray screaming for his tributes to run around a string of expletives and gulps of whisky.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Wiress screamed as she glimpsed two mutts with dark hair, large eyes, and the number three on their collars. "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Beetee swallowed around his nausea as he held his wife.

"GO KIDS, GO!" Haymitch yelled. "C'mon, girl, pull him! Dig your feet in, breadboy, she can't do it herself!" Half the mentors screamed as a mutt bit into Peeta's leg. Wiress and Beetee watched as the large-eyed mutts with 3's on their collars ran around the cornucopia as if they were investigating and analyzing the scene.

"Just like our kids - oh - Beetee -" Wiress sobbed. "What did they do to our children, Beetee - oh -" Putting her head in her hands, she sobbed as Beetee held her tight. Though he wanted to join her and cry with anger over what the Capitol had done to their children, he knew he had to stay strong for Haymitch and for Katniss and Peeta who were their hope for a revolution.

"YEAH! IT'S OVER, TWELVE!" Brutus yelled victoriously as Cato wrapped Peeta in a headlock.

"Except for one thing." Haymitch sneered seeing Peeta draw an X on Cato's hand. "My girl on fire still has her arrows."

"That's a girl!" Wiress cried as Katniss shot an arrow through Cato's hand.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Brutus wailed as Cato fell to the ground before the mutts descended on him. "CATO! NOOOOO! I promised you I'd bring you home -" He screamed in fury as he pounded the table before throwing his chair at the main screen before storming out of the room.

"It's not -" Wiress began watching Katniss and Peeta attempt to stay atop the cornucopia.

"Not over." Beetee gasped. "It's not over."

"WHAT THE HELL!" Haymitch yelled as his tablet flashed and stayed on the screen showing Katniss and Peeta's vital signs from their tracker. No matter how hard he tapped the screen or pushed the navigation buttons, the tablet didn't change. "NERDS!"

"They froze it." Beetee explained as the color drained from his face. "It's the kids versus the mutts. Until the end." As the hours went on, tears ran down their faces hearing Cato's pain-filled cries mixed with Katniss' pleading for Peeta to stay awake.

"If he falls asleep he could -" Wiress began worriedly as Katniss once again pleaded with Peeta to stay awake as the night wore on.

"Roll off, I know, hon." Beetee muttered. "We know." He blinked back tears as Cato's cries turned to pleading with Katniss to shoot him and pleading with the Gamemakers to end it. "I'd never wish this on any kid." He said sadly seeing the pain and fear in Cato's eyes as the cameras zoomed in on him. "Buddy, I know you're in pain." He whispered looking at Cato's bleeding body. "Brutus can't help. None of us can. I'm sorry."

"All mentors report to the Gamemaker Control room. Immediately!" At the sound of President Snow's voice, every single person in the Mentor room hurried to the Gamemaker Control Room trying to block questions from their minds, knowing they had to be strong.

"It's almost over." President Snow announced as Katniss loaded an arrow into her bow to end Cato's suffering. The room was silent as Cato's cannon fired.

"Free." Wiress whispered under her breath as her husband took her hand. The room was silent as Katniss and Peeta climbed down from the Cornucopia.

"Attention tributes, the previous rule change has been revoked. There may be only one victor of these Games." Cladius Templesmith announced as the two tributes gazed up at the sky for an awaiting hovercraft.

"I can't!" Katniss cried as Peeta begged for her to shoot him. "I can't kill you!"

"Well, I'll end it." Peeta replied as he began undoing his tourniquet on his leg.

"No!" Katniss cried before pulling the nightlock berries from her pocket and offering them to Peeta. "We'll both end it. Together!"

"CRANE! DO SOMETHING!" President Snow yelled as the two tributes stood tall, hand in hand, and defiantly held out the berries to taunt the Capitol. The gamemakers and mentors watched as Senca's hand hovered over his keyboard on the master computer. One keystroke would produce a deadly electrical shock from a tribute's tracker to instantly stop the heart. "SENECA CRANE, I'M ORDERING YOU!" Staring hard into the President's eyes, Seneca Crane withdrew his hand as the two tributes raised the berries to their lips.

"Stop!" Cladius Templesmith cried. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring you Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the victors of the Seventy-Fourth Hunger Games!" Wiress dared not to breathe as three Peackeepers stormed into the room and ran toward the Head Gamemaker's station. Seneca Crane knelt down and locked eyes with Wiress as one Peacekeeper unlatched the safety from his rifle. Beetee stared at the Gamemaker and knew he was sacrificing his own life for the tributes and for the future. Locking eyes with the Teslas, Seneca knew he was making the right choice. For your children. He mouthed before a bullet tore through his head.
