Don't fight with it, Tim! Live with it! Confront it!- Jason Todd (New Earth)
"Your help," Castiel said after a very long moment, ignoring the persistent buzzing sound coming from Jason's pocket, "would be very appreciative."
Jason snorted. "Aw, princess, you know how to make a man feel good."
"Zelda?" Stephanie asked, toying with the rim of her orange juice. "Aren't you going to answer your phone, Hoodie, darling?"
"Can it grapefruit," Jason retorted. He checked his phone, and chose to ignore it. "It's your ex. I'm not talking to him." He turned off the phone. "And no, he'd be Princess Daisy. Duh."
Stephanie gave him a weird look. "I'm not playing Mario Kart with you ever again."
"Can we get back on topic?" Sam demanded. Jason snorted and Stephanie snickered. "Great. Are you guys hunters?"
"You could say that," Stephanie said languidly. "We're not monsters, if that what you're asking. Monster-monsters, not human assholes-monsters. Jason's an asshole, so I understand if you want to break his black shriveled heart on principle."
"Bitch," Jason snapped.
"Sorry," Stephanie said. "Shit, sorry. Touchy subject."
Jason rubbed a hand over his face and didn't respond.
"Um," Sam said, watching the brief spat between the two, "What can you bring to the table?"
"We're badass," Stephanie said, when it became evident that Jason wasn't going to reply, "Jason more-so than I am. We're not new to the game, if that's what you're concerned about, and no matter what you say we're going to do this anyway."
"Then," Dean sneered, "How come I've never heard about you two before."
They gave him a flat look. "Christ, Winchester," Jason said, "I'm Jason Todd. She's Stephanie Brown. Do you two even keep up with the Gotham hunting community? No? Thought so." Jason sighed tiredly, "And here I thought we could share information, like where darling Meg is gonna be at next week."
"Jason," Castiel said again, "You've died."
Jason froze for a split second, before he was up on his feet and glaring. Stephanie mimicked him, hand in her pockets, holding her pepper spray. "I'd forgotten," Jason said lowly, "That an angel was lowering his fucking self into actually fucking helping for once. I've heard about you."
Castiel ignored this. Sam and Dean were getting nervous, and were preparing to stand to flank their angel.
The spat was also gathering attention. People were starting to look over.
"You weren't where you were supposed to be, when you died." Castiel said. "We were looking for you." Castiel remained seated, utterly calm.
Jason wasn't. Jason was ready to blow. Stephanie swallowed hard, gave a brief prayer for mercy, and yanked on Jason's jacket collar. It startled him and he took a step back. He started to say something, but Stephanie yanked on him harder, and pulled him out of the booth. He stumbled out, almost falling. "We're leaving." Stephanie said, and clasped a hand over Jason's mouth to prevent him from saying or starting anything. "We have Singer's number, we'll call him if we have something to share. Please die in a fire." She had to lead Jason out of the restaurant, as his face was set in a mask of calm, which could only mean he was about to brutally murder someone. "That went well," Stephanie said when they were standing by their motorcycles. "Let's leave the state."
"That's smart, Steph," Jason said, "I thought you weren't capable of thinking."
She shoved past him. "We can key their car."
Jason smiled a little. "Whatever you want grapefruit."
"Eggplant."
