Chapter 19
They fell asleep, tangled togther in the sheets. Jax woke up first, sighing happily when he glanced down to find Haley asleep on his chest. He tugged the sheet up, making sure she was covered. She hummed softly in acknowledgement as his fingers skimmed up her back.
She shifted slightly, her fingers tracing circles on his chest. Jax pressed a kiss to the top of her head, wrapping his arms snuggly around her. She let out a soft sigh and she looked up at him.
"Good morning," she said softly.
"Afternoon, its almost 1."
"We should get up, they'll be wondering where we are."
"Everyone is too hungover to care," Jax replied as she sat up. She held the sheet to her chest as she stared down at him. Jax tucked a stray curl behind her ear, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "What do you want to do today?"
"Can we go for a ride? Maybe go to the cabin for a few days? I just want to get away," Haley replied.
Jax sat up and kissed her slowly. He pulled her closer, tugging at her until she was straddling his lap. She shook her head at him as she kissed him back. She giggled as Jax began kissing her neck. There was a knock on the door, just giving them a few seconds before the door opened.
Jax pulled Haley against him, grabbing the sheet to cover them both. She buried her face in his neck, closing her eyes tightly. "What," Jax demanded as Tig stumbled into the room.
"Brother, we've got church, Clay wants to talk about what happened last night. Also Opie wants to go a round in the ring, apparently the two of you woke him up this morning."
"Oh my god," Haley said as she flushed dark red. Her head was resting against Jax's shoulder as she groaned softly.
"We'll be down in a while," Jax snapped. "Get out of here!"
Tig grinned at them before shooting a wink at Haley and backing out the door. Haley groaned again as she pulled away from Jax. She kept the sheet wrapped around her body as she moved around the room. She began tugging on her clothes, keeping her back to Jax.
"Will you look at me," Jax asked.
Haley paused and glanced over her shoulder at him. "What?"
"You ok?"
"You going to fight with Opie?"
"Don't know if I'll be able to avoid it."
"Don't fight with my brother, I'll talk to him. I'm going to take a shower," Haley said as she went into the bathroom. She left the door ajar as she turned the water on. She peered back around the door as she slipped off his t-shirt. "You coming?"
Jax grinned at her and strode into the bathroom. He pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply before tugging her into the shower. She giggled as Jax pushed her under the water. She wrapped her arms around him and leaned into him. The day was looking up.
...
Haley came downstairs before Jax to keep Opie from coming at him. She glanced around as she checked out the other guys. It was obvious everyone was hungover. She drummed her fingers against the counter before pouring herself a cup of coffee. She jumped when someone clamped a hand on her shoulder.
"You want to tell me what that was about this morning," Opie demanded.
"Jesus Opie, last time I checked I'm an adult! I'm 22, I can make my own decisions. He didn't force me into anything, we are two consenting adults. Don't make a big deal out of this," Haley pleaded.
"Baby girl, I know him, I know what he's like. He hasn't been the same since Tara. He sleeps around, he doesn't commit to anything other than this club. I don't want you to get hurt, and he's my best friend, but he's going to hurt you, whether he means to or not," Opie warned.
"Opie, I know where you are coming from. You know him better than I do, but I'm not stupid, I'm not rushing into something with him. He's never going to be a flowers and chocolate guy. He cares about me, he's been there for me through all of this shit, I can't ask for more than that right now."
"So I don't have to kick his ass?"
"Do you want me to speak to you again," Haley asked.
"Fine, fine," Opie said as he threw his hands up. Jax came down the stairs at the moment and Opie grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. "Listen, she just talked you out of a beating, but you hurt her, and I will kick your ass! You understand me?"
"Yeah, I understand," Jax said seriously. Opie let him go and stepped back. Haley handed them both a cup of coffee and stepped between them.
"All right, enough testosterone, don't you have church," she asked.
"Yeah, let's go," Opie said quickly.
Jax lingered with her for a moment as he watched Opie walk into the chapel. "What happened? What did he say?"
"He was going to kick your ass, he thought... it doesn't matter what he thought. I told him what was going on, and he's good with it. You hurt me though, and I won't protect you from him. You understand Jackson Teller?"
"Yeah darlin, I understand," Jax said with a grin. "I'll ask them about us going to the cabin for a few days. They'll want to know where you're going since we're being paid to protect you."
"It doesn't make you feel like a whore? Being paid for this," Haley teased.
"Nah, unless you want to treat me like a whore, I'm all for that," he said into her ear.
"Go to church Teller, you need some Jesus in your life," Haley replied as she pushed him away. She grinned at him as he walked into the chapel. She had no idea what she had gotten into with him, but she'd be damned if she wasn't going to enjoy this while it lasted.
