Kagome heard a loud squeal and a yell of "big brother" come from downstairs. She slowly sat up and walked to the door. Pulling it open she walked out into the hall and to the railing that oversaw the front door. She saw a little girl latched to Sesshomaru's leg grinning up at him. Sesshomaru reached down and patted the little girl on the head and the girl's grin grew wider. The little girl stared at him for a couple of moments longer before releasing his leg. She stepped back, placed her hands behind her back and started to rock on her toes. She glanced around the foyer area before her eyes landed on Kagome. Her smile fell and she stopped rocking. Inu Tashio followed her eyes and smiled.
"Rin that is Kagome-san" he said bending down to her level. Rin looked at him before looking back to Kagome. Sesshomaru caught Kagome's eye and motioned her down. She slowly moved down the steps, in front of Rin. Kagome smiled softly at Rin.
"Hi Rin-chan. I'm Kagome" she said softly. Rin stared at her, before giving her a shy smile.
"Hi Kagome-chan. You're really pretty" she said softly. Kagome chuckled before glancing at Sesshomaru, who was staring blankly at her. She couldn't help but feel like this was a test of some sort. She bent down towards Rin and smiled wider.
"Thank you Rin-chan. You're really pretty too! How old are you?" she asked. Rin took this moment to lock gazes with Kagome. Kagome realized that Rin was completely human. She had dark brown eyes that was so wise for a little girl. Rin held her eyes with such an intensely Kagome feared to move. After what seemed like forever, Rin smiled at her and threw her arms around her neck. Inu Tashio, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru seemed to release a silent breath of relief. Kagome chuckled before putting her arms around Rin and squeezing a little. Rin stepped back and looked at Inu Tashio.
"PaPa?" she asked.
"Yes?" he asked back. Rin walked to him and leaned to his ear, she put her hand up to his ear.
"I like her" she mock whispered in ear. He chuckled before taking her in his arms, and placing her on his hip.
"I'm glad" he said. Kagome smiled and looked at Sesshomaru. He had a soft look on his face, she felt her face heat up. Inuyasha thankfully saved her by suggesting to watch a movie. Rin cheered and called out "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and Inuyasha groaned. Kagome giggled before following everybody into the living room.

After the movie everybody piled into the kitchen while Kagome cooked. Rin was sitting in Sesshomaru's lap watching intently as he taught her how to write her name in English. Inuyasha was whispering into his phone and Inu Tashio was typing away on his. Kagome marveled in the soothing atmosphere they created. Her house was a sad time this year. No matter how hard her grandfather and mother tried to put on smiles for the family. She and Souta always saw there it. It wasn't as bad as they thought. They thought her and Souta couldn't handle this time of year when actually they were fine. They grieved, and moved on. They didn't forget their father or try to pretend nothing happened, but they were fine with everything. They were stronger than her mother and grandfather gave them credit for.
"Kagome?" Inuyasha asked. Kagome jumped and turned around. Inuyasha's eyebrows furrowed and he placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Are you okay?" he asked. Kagome ran her hand through her hair before glancing towards the table. Rin, Sesshomaru and Inu Tashio was staring at her. She looked back and Inuyasha and shrugged his hand off her shoulder.
"Yeah….yeah I'm fine" she said. Inuyasha let his hand fall to his side and nodded.
"You sure?" he asked. Kagome nodded before turned back towards the counter. She went to pick up the knife but it slipped out of her hand. She looked down and she saw the handle bloody. Her heart sped up and she stepped back. She raised her hand to her face and palms facing outwards. She didn't see any cuts, she took a shaky breath before turning them around and almost fainted.
"Whoa, whoa" Inuyasha said, balancing her. Her left palm, the hand she was cutting with, hand a deep gash in the middle of the palm. Her eyes widen and her vision blurred. She felt her world spinning and felt something rising inside of her. No, not right now. She was vaguely aware of Sesshomaru pressing a rag into her palm and calling her name. She closed her eyes as the feeling rising inside of her rose higher and higher. Her breath started to become short and fast. She heard Inu Tashio urging her to calm down. But she couldn't, she was highly aware of her hand throbbing with pain and it was all she could focus on. The feeling rising in her and the pain in her hand was all she could focus on. She squeezed her eyes and threw herself into her memories. Come on, come on dad. I need you.
Kagome. Breath.The world stopped. Inu Tashio voice faded, Sesshomaru pushing into her palm faded.
Kagome took a big calming breathe and focused. Guide it to your hand, focus on your cut. Remain calm. You don't want to harm anybody.Kagome nodded and threw herself into her body. She found a pink ball of glowing energy lashing out wildly in her. She grabbed a hold of it and soothed it out, led it to her palm and let it take over her hand. She didn't seewhat happened but she felt her hand closing back up with a sickening squish that had her gagging and running towards the sink. Luckily nothing happened and she just dry heaved. After she was done she let herself fall to the floor and breathed in deeply. The pain in her hand was gone and the energy in her was calm again. She jumped when she felt a hand on her back. She whipped her head around and came face to face with blue eyes. She blinked before she connected the face with the eyes. Rin. But Rin's eyes were brown in the foyer. Her eyes connected to 'Rin's' and she gasped.
"Dad" she breathed. Rin smiled and patted her head. Kagome closed her eyes and swore this was her dad.
"You did well Kaggie" 'Rin' murmured into her head. Kagome sighed and smiled.
"Thank you" she whispered. When she felt Rin move away from her she opened her eyes and Rin's eyes was back to their natural brown. Rin moved back to Inu Tashio. Kagome looked from each face and saw a looked of shock on each one.
"What-what happened?" she asked.
