"You think you can take me any day huh? How about right now?" Percy snarled, his face inches away from Blair's, his eyes pulsing with that green light and giving an eerie light to the darkening pavilion. Silence followed as everyone held their breath, waiting for the son of Zeus to reply.
.
"You're on Jackson," Blair snarled out. Percy released the son of Zeus' shirt and stormed out of the pavilion, towards the arena.
There was a mad scramble as everyone rushed to the arena to see the son of Poseidon battle the son of Zeus. Percy stood waiting in the darkening light, no armor, just him and Riptide, which he held loosely by his side. Blair strode into the arena, his bronze chest plate, greaves, bracers and shield glinting dully in the meager light. All around the arena people lit torches and new light spilled over the fighters. Blair held his shield on his left arm and a celestial bronze sword slightly longer than Riptide in his right. In the uneven light Percy could barely make out the word etched into the blade.
"Katastroféas," Percy whispered to himself. "Destroyer".
"Attention!" Chiron yelled. "The fight shall be over only on a disarm! Both fighters have agreed to this and are allowed to use any and all means at their disposal!" The audience gasped, this was going to be an epic fight, two sons of the Big Three battling and all powers allowed. Money changed hands as last minute bets were placed.
"Ready for this Sea Spawn?" Blair jeered.
"Are you?" Percy glared back. The son of Zeus grinned cockily and charged, swinging his sword at Percy's neck, had it connected it would have take his head off. It didn't connect though; Percy simply wasn't there anymore. Blair looked around for his cousin when he felt an impact on the back of his knee. He stumbled forward and swung around to see Percy standing there calmly, his eyes giving a slight green light. Blair grinned; he loved a challenge. He stood and swung Destroyer in a deadly arc, as Percy raised Riptide to block however, Blair slammed his shield into the son of Poseidon and Percy was sent flying back, landing painfully on his right arm and Riptide fell from his grasp. Percy stood, ignoring the pain in his arm and charged at Blair, not even bothering to pick up his sword. Percy began swinging punches; the bronze crumpled beneath his blows and soon Blair's shield was dented beyond use. Percy wrenched it off the son of Zeus' arm and tossed it aside. Percy drew Riptide from his pocket and the two warriors circled each other for a while. The crowds were silent. Blair charged with a cry and attacked in a storm of forehands, backhands and thrusts. Percy was surprised; Blair was good, at least as good as Jason or even Percy himself. Percy was slightly desperate beneath the onslaught, Blair had trained constantly since he had arrived at camp and Percy hadn't touched a sword for over two year until his escape from Tartarus. Percy's lack of training soon became obvious as Blair knocked Riptide from Percy's grip and kicked the son of Poseidon in the chest. Percy landed back with a thump on the ground. Blair picked up Riptide and cockily strode towards his fallen cousin. As Blair drew closer he noticed something was off; Percy was laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" asked Blair in confused anger. "I beat you." He placed the tip of Percy's own blade against its owners back.
"You think you beat me?" cackled Percy as he stood up, Riptides point now at his throat as he glared at Blair. His eyes were pulsing with green light, making Blair tremble slightly "YOU THINK YOU CAN BEAT ME?!" Percy roared, he gripped Riptide in his bare fist, cutting into the skin and causing blood to run down his forearms. Percy ripped Riptide from his cousin's grasp and advanced on Blair.
"YOU THINK YOU CAN BEAT ME!?" he roared again. Percy gripped Blair's chest plate and the son of Zeus swung his sword as Percy, it bit into his shoulder but Percy's only reaction was to rip it from his shoulder and toss it aside.
"You will pay for your disrespect cousin." Percy snarled, using the word as though it were an insult. Percy grip on his chest plate tightened and the bronze crumpled under his power. Percy grunted and picked Blair up; the son of Poseidon threw his cousin into one of the walls around the arena, destroying the wooden structure. Blair groggily climbed to his feet and looked up to see Percy stalking towards him. He threw a clumsy punch which, to his surprise, connected with Percy's cheek; causing blood to pour from the corner of his eye. Percy shrugged of the punch and drew Riptide. Blair's eyes widened and he honestly thought he was going to die.
"So this is how my life ends," he thought to himself, "at the hands of my cousin." Percy punched Blair and his legs collapsed from underneath him. His head bowed as he waited for death.
"Percy! Stop!" Blair looked up and watched Percy lift Riptide in preparation for the final blow.
"Who would be mad enough to try and stop this guy?" Blair thought to himself as he heard footsteps, but he found himself unable to look to see who it was or even left an arm in a vain attempt to ward off the coming blow. He was paralyzed by the glowing green light emanating from his cousin's eyes. He felt powerless against it.
"Percy! Stop, please!" Percy however didn't seem to hear the desperate cries. Time seemed to slow for Blair as the deadly bronze blade began its downward descent.
Clang!
Blair dimly realised he was still alive, he looked around and saw what looked like an ivory blade in between his skull and Riptide's blade. Percy looked around wildly to see who would dare stop him. He froze when he saw a beautiful blonde haired, grey-eyed girl looking at him defiantly. As though she was daring him to strike her down. Part of Percy wanted to do just that, but the other part recognized her. He struggled for a minute; the trio stood frozen, standing exactly still while a part of Percy held him back and he desperately searched for that one word that would stop him. He found it. Annabeth. Percy's muscles relaxed and Riptide was lowered to his side. Both Annabeth and Blair let out sighs of relief, but Annabeth hid hers. She lowered her drakon bone blade and stepped towards Percy, the light fading from his eyes until they were the normal beautiful sea green that she loved so much.
"Annabeth, I'm so sorry." Annabeth said nothing but just stabbed her sword into the ground and hugged him, a few seconds later she felt his arms go around her in return.
"It's alright Seaweed Brain." She tightened her hug briefly before stepping back and looking at Blair who was still kneeling on the ground. "I suggest you go back to your cabin." Blair nodded eagerly and ran away. Annabeth turned back to Percy to inspect his wounds, the one on his shoulder was particularly bad but he didn't seem to feel it. She touched it gingerly with the tip of her forefinger.
"Does that hurt?" she asked, looking up into Percy's face.
"No," he looked at the wound. "How bad is it?"
"Well, it's deep and it's going to scar. But, you should get one of the Apollo kids to look at it." She said as she inspected it.
"Alright," he nodded. "Thanks for stopping me, I don't know what happened." Annabeth paused, she had a vague idea of what it was but she pushed the thought from her mind. It was over now.
"Come on, let's get that cut looked at." She gripped his hand and started to lead him over to the Apollo campers when she noticed a green smoke coming from somewhere in the crowd. This green she recognized. The campers around the source cried out in shock and a few rushed forward to catch Rachel Dare as she collapsed. They sat her on a stool. She opened her eyes and mouth, more green smoke pouring out, along with a voice that didn't belong to the redhead:
The Terror that was a forgotten fear
Shall be known again to reappear
Skies overflow with Water's courage
To combine with strength, both shall flourish.
The surrounding campers began to mutter.
"Silence!" Chiron shouted out. "It's obvious that was a prophecy, but it is late. We will discuss it tomorrow, now to bed!" The campers muttered unhappily as they made their way to their cabins. Annabeth turned to Percy but he was frozen with his eyes locked on Rachel form, which was being carried back to her cave.
"Percy? You OK?" She asked with concern.
"Those… those words." He swallowed nervously. "I've heard them before, in- in Tartarus."
"You have?"
"Yeah, Kronos. He, he said those words to me. Mocking me, saying that one day they would haunt me."
"Percy, look at me." She gently placed her hand on his cheek and turned his head so he was looking at her. "It'll be alright, we'll deal with it when it happens. Together." She said earnestly.
"Together." Percy spoke the word quietly, like it was his lifeline. "Together." This time he said it with more conviction. Annabeth nodded and gripped his hand.
"Come on, let's get that cut looked at." She led him to the Apollo cabin. They walked in silence, holding hands until they reached the Apollo cabin just as the campers were filing inside.
"Will!" Annabeth called out, one of the blonde kids detached himself from the group and walked over.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Can you have a look at this cut?" Annabeth asked, getting straight to the point. "It's from the dual."
"Sure, can you roll his sleeve up?" Will said, following Annabeth's lead. Percy rolled it up to reveal the deep cut that was causing blood to pour down his arm. Will stepped in close to inspect it and after a minute he started talking. "Well, it's deep but nothing to worry about. It didn't sever an artery so that's good." He pulled out some ambrosia and nectar that he always kept in a pocket and handed the Ambrosia to Percy.
"Eat up," he said easily as he washed the cut with nectar. The cut started shrinking and as Percy munched on the Ambrosia the cut started closing faster. "It's not going to fully heal, so you'll have a scar."
"One of many I already have." Percy muttered.
"Alright, there. That's as much as I can do, it'll be healed by morning but yeah, it'll scar."
"Thanks, Will." Annabeth said gratefully.
"No problem," he looked at Percy. "I'm glad you're back Perce, it hasn't been the same around here."
"Trust me, I'm glad I'm back too." Will momentarily saw a broken light in Percy's eyes but it disappeared quickly leaving him unsure of whether he had actually seen it or not.
"Well, goodnight. I'll see you tomorrow." The couple replied and Will went back into his cabin.
"Come on, let's go to bed."
"Don't you have to go to your cabin?"
"Who's going to stop us?" Annabeth said with a gleam in her eyes. Percy said nothing and just kissed her instead, trying to convey his gratitude through the contact. Annabeth returned it gladly but pulled back.
"Come on Seaweed," she said, pulling him by the hand towards the Poseidon cabin that was still unoccupied.
"What about Ty?"
"Oh, he and Ella stay in their own place now."
"Ella? They're still together huh."
"Yep," Annabeth said, popping the 'p' slightly as she pushed open the door to the Poseidon cabin.
"Has someone been staying in here?" Percy asked as he looked around, taking in the recently slept in bed.
"Umm," Annabeth blushed. "Well, Poseidon and my mother both said it was alright." Percy's only response was a kiss.
"Let's sleep" He pulled his shirt off, revealing all the scars across his torso, and got changed into his pyjamas. Annabeth grinned at him and changed before climbing in beside him, he draped an arm across her stomach and soon sleep took over both of them.
Right, there it is. Lemme know what you think. Credits go to BloodTributes for the Prophecy, I'm hopeless at writing them so thanks to her for writing that for me.
