Blood Is Thicker Than Darkness
Sibling Indiscretions
Chapter 8
(DISCLAIMER: I do not own TMI that is all Cassandra Clare; I only own Blaine and Haley.)
(Magnus's POV)
Here we go again; I swear these two can't go a single day without fighting each other. I mean like seriously not everything has to be solved with their fists, and a knife to someone's throat! But as we all head into the training room, I realize something isn't right. It feels like there's an undercurrent of power running through the room, it's so strong I can almost taste it. As Blaine and Haley make their way to the center of the room I realize this overwhelming surge of power is coming from them. "Guys maybe this isn't such a good idea?" Both the twins look over at me and glare but then Jace pipes in "Why Not? I wanna see what they can do." Which causes Blaine to chuckle under his breathe and Haley delivers her signature smirk. Yeah just what I thought, this definitely won't be good.
(Haley's POV)
"You ready to have your ass handed to you big bro?" I say to Blaine as we get ready to spar. "Yeah we'll see about that, I'm three for six this week, so I'm not about to make this easy for you." "Well I hope not, then you'd just be taking all the fun out of it", "Hah I wouldn't dream of it."
After we're through trash talking we both do a weapons check, my two katana swords, four electrum daggers especially made for my grip, and two seraph blades. Blaine's arsenal is very similar except for instead of dual swords my brother has a large scimitar blade, much like a curved broad sword. We both draw our weapons, it is so on.
(Clary's POV)
I don't know what I was expecting from these two, but this wasn't it. As my siblings started to fight each other it was like nothing I had ever seen before. All I could hear was grunting and the clashing of weapons, as they went after each other with brutal precision and accuracy and to be honest with you I couldn't even see what was happening!
It took all my concentration to actually to see what was going on, but once I was focused in I didn't know how I felt about it. Their moves were so fluid and accurate that it was kind of beautiful. But the intensity and the anger behind it all was terrifying, and I started to worry about their safety.
The twins matched each other blow for blow, at this point we must have been watching them for a good twenty minutes now and they showed no signs of letting up any time soon. But since they were both down to their last weapons I figured it was coming to an end, I can't tell you how wrong I was.
(Magnus's POV)
Yeah this is not good definitely not good, why does no one ever listen to me! I mean I am obviously the only one in this entire Institute with any common sense. But of course even if I wanted to stop it I couldn't, and the others would be no help because they were transfixed on the two Shadow Hunters going at each other with an almost feral elegance.
Alec and Isabelle stood staring as if in a trance; Jace looked like he wanted to get a closer look. If it wasn't for Clary holding his hand he probably would have, and Clary well she might have some common sense. Because even though she was as entranced as the others she looked terrified, and almost like she wanted to intervene. And Lilith knows that would be suicide, trust me I tried breaking up one of their grudge matches once and I almost lost my effing head! I can't believe after that I'm even contemplating stepping in on another one of their battles to the death, but just as I'm ready to try and step in the energy in the room changed.
This time I know it's not just me who feels it, almost like all of them got a physical slap to the face with the energy now swirling around the room. They all snap out of there trance and we all share a concerned look, but unfortunately we were too late. There was a rather loud clang and we all whipped our heads back around, and if I wasn't already concerned I sure as hell was now.
Haley was down on a knee both hands braced on her last katana sword, trying to deflect an overhead strike from Blaine's scimitar. They went back and forth for what felt like minutes but were actually only seconds until Haley gave one last shove and the tumbled backwards while Blaine was trying to catch his balance. But Haley came right back at him sweeping Blaine's legs out from under him, then she planted her sword in the floor and used it to vault over his prone body. As she landed behind him she wrapped her legs around his waist and took her blade hand and wrapped it around his throat in a rather deadly sleeper hold. But somehow Blaine got underneath her grip and shoved her weapon hand away and the blade went flying across the room, now that the twins are separated and both weaponless they started to circle.
So rationally I thought this was the time to step in, "Hey guys maybe you two should give it a rest for now? Maybe call it a draw or something?" which caused the others to nod their heads in agreement and encourage the twins to cool down for a while. But none of that mattered because it just seemed like it all went in one ear and out the other. The energy that previously consumed the room what back but three fold, and as they made another circle around the mat I noticed that Haley's eyes were glowing, and as Blaine came back into view I noticed his were the same, both sets of eyes glowed bright green.
Well that's a new one.
(Sigh) "Shit."
(Clary's POV)
HOLY CRAP! Their eyes are glowing, and upon closer inspection it looked kinda alive like something is inside them trying to get out. Trying to escape more like it, by The Angel what in the world is going on!? As they continued to circle each other we all started to hear these animalistic growls coming from the twins and the energy in the room continued to get thicker, almost like it was trying to take on a physical shape.
Out of nowhere a particularly loud snarl drew my attention from my thoughts, so I paid closer attention to my siblings. That's when I noticed (You know because this could not possibly get any stranger. Pfft. Yeah right this is my life we're talking about here!) that both of their hands had morphed into lethal looking claws. Yeah that's right you heard me I said effing claws!
And just when I thought that the energy in the room couldn't get any stronger and that we were all going to suffocate from the pressure it was gone, just snapped away like a giant rubber band. That's when the growling and snarling stopped and, Haley and Blaine leaped at each other teeth bared and claws outstretched. The way they were attacking each other was like they were out for blood, and in that moment I realized that this is what they meant when Blaine said that their angel and demon blood constantly battle each other for dominance. Yeah that must be it, and I'm just speculating here but I'm pretty sure the demon just won.
Oh Raziel!
This fight is unlike anything any of us have ever seen before, it's vicious and brutal but at the same time beautiful like a deathly ballet dance. Haley and Blaine were totally in sync with each other's moves as they tumbled, leaped and flipped around the room, and very rarely did either of them land a hit. Just as quickly as it started it stopped.
Haley and Blaine were facing off but before either could attack Haley flipped over him and landed facing the mirrors with Blaine to her back and as he spun around he made a vicious swipe at her back. His claws ripped through her gear and left five long gashes across her back that started bleeding profusely. But Haley just stood there staring at the mirror with her mouth agape not moving at all, that's when Blaine realized something was wrong and in a rather rough guttural voice he called her name "Haley?"
That's when my stomach dropped as she let out a scream of gut wrenching terror.
(Haley's POV)
For the first time in a long time we both let our demon win, and I could feel its urge to get out, to rip, to kill, and I embraced it. If only a little bit. Then it began our dance you may call it, because you see me and my brother know each other two well. No matter how hard we try we can barely ever get a hit on each other, so at this point it's just a an outlet for our demons to get out for a few minutes, and if nothing else were giving the others a pretty epic show if I do say so myself.
Then something very unusual happened as I flipped over Blaine and was getting ready to turn around I couldn't, well not exactly that I couldn't but I didn't. As I was standing there facing the mirrors I sensed that something was happening behind me, maybe Blaine finally got me? But who knows or cares because apparently this mirror is much more interesting for some reason. My entire being is locked in place as I look at the reflection of the room; everyone seems to be staring at me in horror while Magnus, Clary and Blaine look at me with concern.
What could I have possibly done this time!? Did I split my pants and they are waiting for me to have a severe psychological break from the embarrassment? Because although that is possible it is highly unlikely even for me, I'm a lot more stable than Jonathan people, I'm not gonna go on a killing spree just because I ripped my pants! At least I don't think I will. Then I catch Blaine's glowing green eyes and I vaguely hear him call my name in his rough demon voice but once again I'm distracted by the mirror.
What happens next I'm not too proud of so bear with me because even though I have nerves of steel and I'm tough as nails I get some leeway, because my very sadistic and crazy younger brother was in the mirror staring back at me. I guess what they say is true; speak of the devil and he shall appear.
That's when I screamed, and I'm not talking some girly scream I'm talking a full on blood curdling scream, because that's just the reaction Jonathan brings out in me.
Then I dropped to floor and everyone runs over to crowd around me and Magnus, Clary and Blaine all drop to their knees checking on me. Now I'm not sure if I said anything or if I was babbling but I know I was definitely shaking, because when you see Jonathan Morgenstern staring at you and you hear his voice in your head, you are allowed a free pass on acting tough because having a sadistic psychopath share your head will reduce you to being a pansy ass.
"Hello big sister did you miss me? Because I know I missed you." "Just get out of my head!" now I'm not exactly sure if I shouted it out loud or in my head but I hope I got my point across. Apparently not because he decided to keep talking, "I'm very disappointed in you. We were supposed to rule the world me you and Blaine, but instead you ran away to these people instead of embracing your destiny. Don't worry though you'll see the error of your ways and you Blaine and Clarissa will join me and bring the world to its full potential. Now this might hurt but you'll get over it, I have a message to give."
Then for the second time in five minutes I was screaming like my life depended on it, which it very well might since it felt like my head was being split open and ripped apart.
Then I stopped screaming and everything went black.
(Clary's POV)
After Haley stopped screaming she just dropped to the floor like a bag of bricks, after a moment of shock we all ran over me, Magnus, and Blaine dropping to our knees to make sure she's alright. But she was out of it just lying there staring at the mirror with her eyes wide in fright. But then she clamped her eyes shut and started shaking like a leaf and wouldn't stop, so I brought her head into my lap and started running my finger through her hair trying to calm her down while the others looked on in worry.
But out of nowhere she shouted with her eyes still firmly shut "Just get out of my head!" , what the hell is she talking about who's in her head? I look around at the others quizzically wondering if anyone has any ideas but we all came up empty. On the bright side she had finally stopped shaking, but I still continued to run my fingers through her hair in the hopes of waking her up. But I was sorely mistaken about that.
Because suddenly she let out another blood curdling scream.
And just as suddenly as the screaming began it stopped and Haley's eyes snapped open and stared directly into my face, but something was wrong with her eyes they were completely black and when she started talking it wasn't her voice. It was a voice even more bone chilling than her screams.
"I am coming for you Clarissa, Blaine and Haley too and once you are all at my side we will all watch the world burn."
When his final words left her mouth, her eyes went back to her normal green, but then they became dull and lifeless and she became limp in my arms.
