Chapter 4: Taconaped

I awoke to Kuma sleeping on top of me… I would have died by suffocation, but I am already dead so it doesn't matter "Kuma, get off of me" I groaned, Arthur told us yesterday that we could take our pets to our rooms. 'I wonder how Liz will manage to fit all of her guinea pigs on her room'

Kuma just sat up (on my lungs, stomach, intestines and legs) "Who?" by this point I didn't feel the wings on my back, Kuma looked down to me and pawed my face "hungry"

"Move" I said with a strained voice, finally the bear rolled off and paced around the room "let me get ready and we'll leave"

After doing my morning ritual (and I only have been a day here), of taking a shower and putting a white robe, I noticed there was something different in my closet, besides the numerous white robes, there was a scarlet red hoodie with a white maple leaf on the center.

"Huh? I don´t remember it was here before" I touched the fabric and took it off the hook "I do remember having you…"

"Look what I brought you!" A french accented voice said, the figure was blurry

"Wow, thanks uncle! No offence, but why?" I saw myself but younger

"It´s because you made it to the finals of hockey" The blurry figure patted me

"Thank you! And thanks for everything you have done for me…"

I left my room (wearing the hoodie and taking Kuma) and took the bus/train, I finally got to the school and left Kuma on the garden, then I went to look for the Physics classroom, on the way there I quickly entered to the cafeteria and stole a maple muffin

"Where are you going?" Feliks voice sounded behind me, as I turned I felt being tugged at another direction "Sit and enjoy breakfast time"

"Aren´t we going to be late for Physics?" I said while taking a seat and chewing my muffin

"No, we have like, 5 min to get there" Feliks replied and kept eating something that I don´t know what it was

I felt my eyes widen and quickly stood up " we *munch* need to* munch* go!" I took Feliks hand and ran to the classroom

I saw the classroom´s door and Ludwig outside with a timer, a chronometer and a list, he turned and looked at us, he looked back at the list and wrote something in it "On time, get in"

Once inside the classroom, I let Feliks go and crumbled on my seat, the other people inside were, Lieng, Berwald, Lily and Emil. There was the sound of a pair of footsteps and Ivan came in carrying Raivis

"Good morning, Matvey and Feliks, little Raivis here, hasn´t learned how to fly well and almost crashed" Ivan putted down Raivis, who muttered apologies

"Class is about to begin!" Ludwig said in that potent voice of his "The only one who didn´t come is-" A loud crash was heard and everybody turned towards the window, Heracles had crashed against it, he looked at Ludwig with his sleepy face and then said "I am here"

After letting him in class began, but I don´t want to bore you with Physics details and the mechanic of flying- "Mathiew! Pay attention!" Ludwig snapped the stick he was using for pointing the wings parts

"Sorry…" I replied and began taking notes in a notebook that popped out of nowhere 'Heaven is weird'

The class was boring, or maybe is because I hate Physics… but when the bell finally sounded I was practically radiating joy… until I looked at my schedule… 'Flight'

I left with Ivan and Raivis "Don´t worry Matvey, you´ll get it this time" Ivan patted (slammed) my shoulder while Raivis looked at me smiling gently

The walk to the flight classroom/ceiling was shorter this time, or maybe my nerves were acting up and I am afraid to end up again in the ground

When we arrived the others were already there, except our teacher Tino...

"Today we are going to have free class, except Mathiew, Lily, Heracles and Mei…" The others cheered and left flying to somewhere 'Wait now that I think about it, wasn't Mei the Kind's teacher? Did she also fail like Tino?'

"All right" Tino turned and looked at us "You still need to practice" he spread his wings widely "Remember to always flap both wings at the same time, use the air currents so that you don't get too tired and instead of flapping through them, glide through them… and never fly on really strong currents, it may rip you feathers or break your wings"

I wonder how is this going to help us to fly right now… and as if Tino had read my mind "You need to practice throwing yourselves from here, first try gliding towards the ground… I shall give you a demonstration" He jumped of the ceiling extending his wings and descended making wide arcs "Like this!" he said once he was in the ground "next one!"

We looked at each other to see who was next "I am really afraid…" Lily said quietly and hid inside her wings, Heracles was looking around sleepily (his face always looks like that), "Fine, I'll do it" Mei said boldly and spreading her wings she jumped, she didn't do it as smoothly like Tino and flapped a few times… but she arrived safely (conscious) on the floor. Tino smiled at her and looked up "Next"

I looked at Heracles and Lily "Who is going next?" Lily had been looking when Mei glided and she said confidently "I'll go" She spread her wings shyly and jumped, at first she panicked and flapped desperately but halfway by Mei's screams she relaxed and glided towards her, effectively knocking her out of balance. Tino smiled and looked up "Next"

'Now, I am ashamed, the girls are braver than I am' Heracles now was distracted with a cat, that only the lord knows how long has it been there "Heracles, I'll be going next" I told him and stood on the edge, I looked down and felt a little sick 'I doesn't matter, I am already dead… but it would hurt like hell' thanks brain for the motivation…

Gathering my courage I jumped… as I was falling I tried to spread my wings but the wind kept me from it 'it looked so easy when they did it', I was already halfway when I began flapping unconsciously 'Keep them spread!' at the last moment I finally could spread them which softened a little my fall, clue word 'a little', I still crashed and hurt like hell but I only got a few scrapes, which is nice…

"Good save" Tino smiled at me "But the next time, before jumping spread your wings" "Next!"

[Third person POV]

Tino kept looking up and shouting 'next' but Heracles didn't come down "I'll go look for him" He flew to the roof, on the roof an army of cats had been made and they were surrounding Heracles

"This is really heaven" Heracles smiled and closed his eyes

"Sorry to interrupt but you're still on class" Tino took a cat and threw it from the ceiling, Heracles stood up and raced for the cat, he caught it while it was falling and managed to glide to the ground, Tino following closely behind

"Why did you do that?!" Heracles asked angrily at Tino

"To test your flight, besides cats have nine lives" Tino said calmly

"That's a lie… they die and never come back" Heracles said hugging the cat closely

"They do have nine lives; just in different dimensions" Tino said and looked at the watch on his wrist "It's time for your next classes"

[Back to Mathiew's POV]

I was surprised when I saw a cat was falling down the ceiling, and more when I saw Heracles behind it, after listening to the Tino's explication, I still felt that it was mean to throw the cat.. but whatever floats on his boat, I left toward the creatures classroom that thanks to the lord was on the first floor and that I was close, on the way there I saw Ivan on the floor, the Hispanic trio where surrounding him and they were dressed like super heroes 'Señor Taco Trio' was written on their capes along with the image of a smiling taco with mustache and a monocle

"Our first victim!" Diana said loudly while Daniel and Liz held Ivan down

"What are you doing?" Arthur's voice sounded from the other extreme of the hall, Ivan was looking around confused at his position of damsel in distress, he tried to get up but Liz and Daniel kept him pinned down, Diana took out something wrapped in foil paper and made Ivan eat it

Ivan at first eyed it hesitantly but after the first bite he ate it happily, Liz and Daniel let go of him and Arthur was halfway of reaching them

"When I get my hands on you trio…" Arthur muttered you could practically see the stam coming out from his ears

Liz let out a loud whistle and a sled being pulled by guinea pigs and two dogs appeared outside the window, Daniel opened the window and took the reins "Vamonos, antes de que nos alcanze el amargado de Arturo (Lets go, before the bitter Arthur reaches us)", Diana hopped in next and Liz turned towards Arthur "Nunca atraparas nuestras almas! (you shall never catch our souls)" she hopped in just as Arthurs fingers grazed against her collar and the trio left.

Arthur turned at me and said angrily "Get to class!" before he stormed off, I helped Ivan on his feet and we kept walking toward 'creatures'

"Are you okay?" I asked Ivan who looked mildly dazed "What did they feed you?"

"I'm fine Matvey, they gave me a taco which tasted different from those that I have tried" We got inside the classroom, the only ones missing where Daniel and Leon.

Leon arrived shortly after them dripping wet and trying to dry off with a towel "Leon what happened?" I asked him

"Had training class and got attacked by the Hispanic trio" He gave up on drying himself and just placed his towel on the chair.

Vlad came in carrying a cage and Daniel following behind him on normal robes, Daniel sat near Leon and threw him a note.

"Mathiew, will you please sit down" Vlad said behind me, I squeaked (in a manly way) and sat 'the second day of school and I'm already spacing out'.

Vlad took out of the cage a creature the body size of a palm; it possessed a long snout and a thin head that ended on two white horns, a thin body and long frontal legs, the back legs where shorter, it also possessed the wings of a dragonfly just bigger to support its size and a long tail that was wrapped around Vlad's wrist. Its color was a ghastly white with emerald eyes, and from time to time it made mewling noises.

"This is an Amulitz, a creature that possessed great healing abilities…" Vlad kept explaining its medical uses on angel illnesses and so on, I just sketched the creature and put some of the facts that I considered important but nothing else, Vlad passed us the creature so that we could look at it closely, when it was my turn I couldn't help but to feel amazed by the softness of it, it nuzzled my cheek and purred 'Like another Kuma', when Vlad passed the Amulitz to Daniel, it scratched him "I knew that only dogs liked me" Daniel gave it back to Vlad and kept writing on those hieroglyphs of his that nobody can understand (1), when the bell rang the first to leave was Daniel, who stood up and ran with a bag.

I stood up and left towards my cooking class, not without saying goodbye at Ivan, Raivis and Leon and that I will see them at lunch, as I walked on the third floor I got tackled by the Hispanic trio (wearing again their suits), Diana and Liz held me down while Daniel shoved a taco on my mouth, I almost choked but managed to eat it "Yay! Victima #4" Daniel smiled and Diana and Liz let me go.

'So that was what they were planning yesterday' I left as quickly as possible not wanting to attract their attention, it would be dangerous.

I was again in front of the cooking class and it looks like Francis hasn't arrived

"Open the window!" A voice slightly muffled said, and again without hesitation I opened it 'Daja vu'

Francis didn't come from the window, it was Liz (wearing her robes) and carrying a backpack, she crashed against the door and the force of the impact made it to break; Francis was just arriving with the keys in that moment.

"Well, I guess I won't need to open it" He said and went inside, I followed closely behind surprised that he hadn't reacted negatively towards her,

"Since we are near lunch time, why don't we make a dessert?" Francis said once Liz had stood up and placed the door on its rightful place "What would you like as a dessert?"

I was about to say that a cake or a mousse but Liz beat me when she shouted "FLAN!" (2)

And so we ended making a pastry that I didn't know about but it smelled nice, maybe on my second break I will come for some, 'it took basically all the class to make it, of course I will come!'

The bell rang signaling the end of this class, Francis let us go not without telling us dramatical stuff as if he weren't going to see us again.

I got to the cafeteria, and ordered some poutine, just as I was about to sit alone Feliks dragged me to a table filled with the people I sat with yesterday at break time.

"I was looking for you, I feared that you also got Taconaped by the Hispanic trio" Feliks said and looked around for the said trio

On the table the only ones missing were Berwald, Leon, Oliver and the Hispanic trio, I sat down on the table and looked at the ones that were eating "Has somebody else gotten taconaped?"

Ivan, Raivis, Emil and Tino raised their hands slightly and went back eating, at that time Berwald and Oliver came looking exhausted to our table.

"What happened?" I asked worriedly

"I had Training… and later got attacked by the trio" said Oliver somehow managing to give a sneer

Berwald just grunted in response and sat beside Tino, who practically cringed slightly and gave a nervous laugh.

Leon came to the cafeteria, ordered and went to the table, I knew something was wrong since he looked slightly angered "Leon, I don't mean to pry but… what happened to you?" I said and placed a hand on his shoulder; he cringed and stepped away from me.

"Sorry, I crashed on a tree and hurt my shoulder" He said emotionlessly

The Hispanic trio was nowhere to be seen on the lunch time; my best guess is that they were hiding from Arthur since I saw Arthur walking around the cafeteria and scanning the people.

"Hey, Raivis" I said "Could you tell me how to get to Spirits class? Or how does the teacher look like?"

Raivis looked at me and made a thinking pose "If I am not mistaken, it's on the third floor, and he is a man with short black hair, his name is Kiku Honda"

"Thanks" I walked out of the cafeteria and went to look for Spirits classroom, on my way I bumped into a short black haired man with brown inexpressive eyes

"I am sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going" I quickly said and did a small bow

"No problem, I was getting to my class" He replied quietly and kept walking

"Do you happen to be Kiku?" I quickly said before the man left

"Yes, I suppose you're new" He said "follow me"

And I followed him since I had no mapling idea where this class was, taking the stairs and a few turns on the third level; we arrived to a door that looked older than the others, it's shadow symbol seemed to be moving slightly but I dismissed it as a trick of the light, we got inside and he motioned me to sit down.

I didn't know anyone from this classroom; everybody looked different from each other

"Oh Mathiew-san, I suppose you don't know anyone from this classroom" Kiku turned to me "Don't worry, you have all eternity to get to know them, depending on your choices that is…"

I sat down for the beginning of my spirits class, when I looked back at the board I saw a blurry figure pass by it and since Kiku didn't paid it any mind I thought to myself 'What is it?'

(2)- Flan: a Mexican dessert which consists of eggs, milk, and sugar that takes a very specific way of preparation, the flavor may vary depends on what other ingredient you put on it (vanilla, chocolate, coffee, etc...) It's worth tasting it
