Matthew ran towards the meeting room, breathing heavy, hoping he hadn't missed anything. Why had Carlos chosen right before the meeting to think he was his brother?

Rounding the corner, he heard voices coming from further down the hall. He ran faster, ready to burst in, until he heard what was going on.

Muted behind the closed door, a speech could be heard being made. They had started the meeting without him…

Stopping in his tracks, the Canadian stared at the door. Oh… They had forgotten him. Again…

His eyebrows furrowed as he remembered that Alfred was supposed to be at the meeting. Slowly, he took out his phone and saw he had around five missed messages.

'I got here late again. I thought you were coming to the meeting?'

'You feeling okay?'

'Hello? Bro?'

'Dude, answer your phone.'

He paused and saw there was one more message left. It read, 'Maaaaaattttttt. It's boring without you here.'.

This made him smile slightly, however he was still late. And he supposed Carlos would…probably… realize later that it wasn't Alfred he had yelled at…

Shaking his head, Matthew opened the door and strode into the meeting hall. No one noticed he had entered, aside from his brother, who sent him a look from across the room. He saw him mouth, 'Where were you?'

Shrugging, Matthew went to his seat. He tried to listen to the speech being given, but found himself going off more and more. He was tired of being forgotten, tired of being ignored… He wanted Carlos to stop yelling and smacking him…

Sighing, realizing no one besides his brother would even know he was at the meeting, the Canadian took out his phone. He put the ear buds in their rightful place and paused, absently rubbing the place on his head the Cuban man had hit. He was sure he would have more bruises other than that…

His eyes narrowed and he picked the first song that came to mind. His foot automatically started tapping to the beat and he mouthed the words. He didn't care if he got caught and he knew no one would notice anyways.

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong

And no one understands you

He closed his eyes, listening as if the song were speaking to him. Then, the next time he opened them, he saw Carlos on his feet, yelling. He had no idea why. Really, it could have been a number of reasons, but the Cuban was looking at him and angrily at that.

He gave Carlos a blank look, not being able to hear a single word said. Then, he met Alfred's eyes and understood. Ah… mistaken again huh?

There was a tap on his shoulder and he turned his head, meeting Ludwig's eyes. Reluctantly, he took the earphones out and heard the German speak.

"Alfred this is the second time-"

He saw his brother raise his hand and say in a matter of fact tone, "I'm right here. That's Matthew."

For a moment Ludwig looked flustered, though he quickly recovered. "Oh. Well in that case… He still has to go."

Matthew nodded, not caring. He set his phone down, barely noticing the apologetic look from Carlos, and pressed play. Closing his eyes, he leaned back against his chair and sang,

"Do you ever want to run away?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming

He nodded his head with the music.

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels alright
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

His eyes opened for a split second and met his brothers. The other nodded in understanding. Ludwig would not expect this…

There was barely a pause in the music and when the words came, both of the North American brothers were singing.

"To be hurt, to feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around-"

Both heads nodded to the same beat and Alfred took great satisfaction in seeing Ludwig's face. It was comical.

"-To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you-"

Almost as if they had rehearsed it, Alfred dropped out and Matthew sang, "No you don't know what it's like-" The Canadian opened his eyes for a moment, looking at the other nations, and continued almost sarcastically. "Welcome to my life." There was a short gap and then he went on.

"Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more
Before your life is over?"

He met his brother's eyes again and the younger twin nodded, knowing it was his turn. After the pause he sang alone, not taking his eyes off Matthew. It was like the two were having a conversation.

"Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding"

Matthew joined in.

"No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels alright
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt, to feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around

To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life."

Now it really was like they were having a conversation because they switched back and forth with the next lines.

"No one ever lied straight to your face"

"And no one ever stabbed you in the back."

"You might think I'm happy"

They joined for the next line. "But I'm not gonna be okay." Then, they returned to switching.

"Everybody always gave you what you wanted"

"You never had to work it was always there"

"You don't know what it's like"

They joined again. "What it's like"

Now Alfred dropped out and it was just Matthew.

"To be hurt, to feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around"

They sang the chorus together. The other nations looked confused by this point with all of the changing back and forth.

"To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
Well, you don't know what it's like
What it's like"

The chorus repeated one more time and the song was over, leaving the meeting room in a stunned silence.

When everyone was dismissed from the meeting, Feliciano watched Ludwig leave. When he was sure that the German was far enough away, he called to the other nations. "Can everybody stay for a minute?" He smiled. "I have an idea."

The nations paused, looking at the Italian curiously.

Seeing he had their attention, Feli continued. First, he addressed Matthew and Alfred. "Ve, I liked your singing. Molto bene."

The twins nodded, Alfred smiling.

The Italian faced everyone else again. "I have an idea everyone. We have to sing songs we get caught with right?"

They nodded, confused.

Feli grinned, a twinkle in his eyes. "Why don't we get caught with songs we really like?"
