Chapter One:
Enter the GHA Transfer Students – New Faces at the DWMA
The small group of cloaked figures made their way towards the DWMA in the sweltering desert heat. "M-miss Ryugazaki… it's too hot out here…" one stated, trying to cool down by fanning themselves with their hand, only to find that the air was too hot for that. The other three figures that were walking alongside the one who spoke glanced forward to their leader, who didn't seem to hear.
"Hey, Wrath?" one asked, tapping her shoulder, making her spin around. "Are you okay?"
"Not really…" she mumbled, cheeks flushed but skin pale. "Come on… we'll be there in a minute…" she stated softly. The others fell back into line behind her as they walked towards the looming structure in the middle of nowhere, finally reaching the bottom only to find that there were stairs to climb. The leader cursed under her breath, sighing before she began climbing with the others. Though… when they got half way to the top, their leader was the only one not tired. "You guys… the GHA didn't train you so you could die on a staircase like this… come on, get up…"
"B-but Miss Ryugazaki…"
"Th-these stairs are huge…"
"C-can we rest… for a minute… Wrath-chan?" one gasped for breath, looking exhausted.
"No. We're already late as it is…" she opened her bag and handed them each a somehow icy can of juice. "Drink up and take two minutes." She stated, turning to look back up at the other half of the stairs. "I'll head up now. Don't mess around okay?" she said, opening a can of juice for herself, downing it in one long chug before she headed up the stairs.
"M-my god… what keeps her going?" one girl asked, opening the can of juice and drinking it slowly, savoring it's cooling effects.
"Miss Ryugazaki's pretty strong…" the boy who'd complained a little earlier opening his can of juice as well. "I heard she's been training with the GHA Jokers since she was only 10… that's younger than any of the other jokers, or any student for that matter…"
"Maybe she's just trying to keep her mind off of her little brother?" the one who'd tapped her shoulder asked. "After all, when she gets on the subject, she has trouble not thinking about it…" the others nodded, the girl pulling her hood off her head, her soft brown hair sticking to her a little because of the heat. The last boy stayed silent, sitting there with his can of juice in his hand.
"Well, whatever. Let's not keep her waiting too long. I'm sure this heat is getting to her worse than any of us." The other boy drank from the juice can, downing half of it in one gulp. Before any of them could agree, they heard yelling, then a shot of a gun. They all jumped up and hurried up the stairs, wondering what happened, hoping it was nothing serious.
The girl who'd made it to the top of the stairs sighed, seeing someone waiting for her. Whatever it was, it made her sigh. The blue-haired boy was pointing at her. "You there!" he exclaimed. "You're the transfer student that's stealing my spotlight!"
"What on earth are you talking about?" she mumbled, already a little irritated from the heat. The boy continued to go on about her and why he had a problem with her for another minute, a girl in black hair standing next to him looking rather worried about the whole situation. At the end of the boy's rant, he got into a stance.
"Fight me, transfer student!" he exclaimed. She just stared at him before removing her hood.
"I'm late for a meeting, why must you insist on an unnecessary fight?" she asked, looking slightly annoyed, and almost like she hadn't been sleeping. Her lavender eyes just watched cautiously, her blackish-purple hair lying flat. Her bangs were in her face a bit, and the hair on the sides of her face hung over her shoulders. "But if you insist upon it… I suppose there's no getting around it…" she mumbled, drawing her weapon. Well… it didn't really look like a weapon, it looked like gun-grips…
"Now we're talking!" he exclaimed, charging at her. But as he got to where she was, having readied himself to hit her with a palm thrust, all he hit was air. "Huh-?!" Click. Bang. He fell to the ground, his body like a live wire, blue sparks flying off of him. "Wh-what's going on?!" he exclaimed, the girl standing over him with what looked like a black and red cross-shaped gun, the barrel smoking as it vanished into the air. All that was left in her hand was the grip that she had pulled out. "H-hey! What did you do?!"
"You'll be able to move again in 5 minutes… your soul is impressive… usually it would take 20 minutes or more for a normal person to move after that…" she stated, returning the grips to her jacket as the others she'd been travelling with came up to the top of the stairs.
"Miss Ryugazaki!"
"Whoa, did you shoot him?"
"Looks like a Phase 2… Shockwave?" one asked her, causing her to nod. "Did he do something?"
"He challenged me…" she stated. "And he didn't look like he'd give up… I didn't want to make Shinigami-sama wait any more than he already has." She looked the group, then back at the school. "Shall we get moving?" she asked, heading towards the building, the others glancing at the boy on the ground silently or apologizing under their breath for their leader's behavior before they followed her. The girl with black hair stopped them, the leader stopping and looking up at her. "I apologize for doing that to your meister… he'll be back up and moving in a few minutes… there is no physical damage." She added, bowing to the girl before walking past her.
"Miss-"
"If you call me Miss one more time, Satoshi, I'll shoot you." She stated. The boy muttered an apology, the girl walking next to him chuckling a little.
"Told you she hates being called Miss." She said.
"I know Tia, but she's still our superior…" Satoshi replied. "Besides, she's also the GHA military leader… we can't just stop addressing her with respect… it's just how we were taught." The girl sighed, shaking her head.
"Don't say that… she's still only a year older than we are." She scolded. "It must make her feel like an old lady when people address her as miss…" Tia stated, nodding her head as she crossed her arms in front of her.
"If you two keep talking you'll get left behind." The other boy called to them. They looked up and saw that they had been left a whole 30 feet behind the rest of their little group. They hurried over to them, looking apologetic before they bowed deeply to Wrath. "So… this Shinigami… he's the same to this school… as the old man is to ours?"
"Do not call Sumagawa-sama old, Yuuji…" Wrath said sternly. The boy stiffened a little before apologizing. "But the concept is the same… Founder… protector… an entity above the normal being… though, Sumagawa-sama isn't quite on Shinigami-sama's level…"
"That's because Shinigami's a death god, right?" Tia asked, earning a nod from Wrath. "But Sumagawa-san's just super powerful… like, a huge soul-"
"It's a Strong Soul, not a huge soul." Satoshi stated.
"It is? I thought it was a massive soul…" the other girl stated, looking confused.
"Enough. We're here. All of you be on your best behavior…" Wrath said, stopping at the door to Shinigami's Room. She wrote the numbers she'd been told of on the mirror. "Shinigami-sama… I apologize for our late arrival. I am Wrath Ryugazaki, the Oblivion Joker of the GHA. I also have two meisters and two weapons with me… May we enter?" The door opened and she smiled, walking in with the others trailing behind her.
"Nice décor…" Satoshi stated, admiring the walkway and the moving clouds on the walls.
"So this is Shinigami's Death Room…" Yuuji pondered, walking along the path with the others.
"This room is awesome!" Tia exclaimed as they approached the end of the walkway.
"Is he here…?" the last girl asked, wondering why there was no one around.
"He's here, Aki. Just not technically in this space, is all…" Wrath said, heading over to the mirror and wrote the numbers again, same as how she did at the door. "Shinigami-sama?"
"Hello hallo good afternoon!" a sudden voice of the DWMA headmaster and a black cape and white mask appeared. "Oh, you must be Wrath! Sumagawa has told me all about you." He said cheerfully, bouncing around a little as he spoke. The others seemed a little surprised at his behavior for a moment.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Shinigami-sama…" Wrath bowed to him. "I apologize for the delay." Shinigami chuckled, shaking his head.
"Oh no not at all." He waved his hand. "But there are some people I want you to meet." He said. Some voices came into the room, and the GHA students turned around to see the blue haired boy from before and his weapon partner, as well as a girl with pigtails and a boy with white hair. There were also two blonde girls dressed in very similar fashions, and a boy with two-toned yellow eyes and 3 white stripes across one side of his head of black hair. "Wrath, these are some of our best students… in certain fields." Shinigami stated. "Black Star and Tsubaki." He motioned to the blue haired boy and the black haired girl.
"Transfer student, fight me again!" Black Star pointed at Wrath, who turned to him.
"Sure, if you don't care about getting your head handed to you." She replied simply as the other students of the GHA watched on in slight fear of what Wrath might actually do.
"Oh you two have already met?" Shinigami questioned. "Good good." He nodded. "Next we have Maka Albarn and Soul Eater Evans." Shinigami stated, motioning to the pigtail girl and the white haired boy. The pigtailed girl offered her hand for Wrath to shake.
"Hey. I'm Maka and this is my partner Soul." The girl smiled. "It's nice to meet you."
"And the same to you, Miss Albarn." Wrath replied, bowing her head a little as they shook hands. The students bowed politely to Maka and Soul before shaking their hands.
"And this is my son Death the Kid and his two weapons, Elizabeth and Patricia Thompson." Shinigami motioned to the last 3. Wrath turned to them and bowed her head much faster than she had with Maka, as well as deeper.
"It is a pleasure to meet you." She stated.
"It's nice to meet you too." Kid replied. "You don't have to bow…" Wrath looked up at the boy as he spoke, nodding her head slightly.
"I'm sorry… it's a force of habit." She stated. "I'll do my best not to bow again." She turned back to Shinigami. "I would like to introduce the representatives of the GHA that I have brought with me if that's alright." She stated.
"Sure sure, that's good." Shinigami nodded his head. "Go right ahead." Wrath nodded, turning to the group she'd brought with her.
"These are our best non-graduated pairs… Aki Miyazawa and Yuuji Chess… Satoshi Aoi and Tia Rene…" she turned to the DWMA students. "Please take care of them while they are attending classes with you…" she bowed again.
"E-eh? You won't be taking classes…?" Maka asked, a little confused.
"No, you see…" she looked up. "I've been given permission to act as a teacher while I'm here…" she took out some papers and showed them to Maka and the others. "As GHA's military leader, I was assigned to show the students of DWMA how to fight poltergeists."
"Poltergeists…?" Before anything else, Shinigami interrupted in his most cheerful manner.
"There will be an assembly tomorrow morning~" Shinigami stated. "Wrath-chan, if you'd like to head to your living quarters, I can have someone escort you now~" He tilted his head at the girl. "Is that alright?"
"Ah, yes…" Wrath nodded. "We'll take our leave then." She turned to leave, catching a glimpse of Kid staring at her with a slight blush on his pale cheeks, turning his head away hastily like a child who didn't want to be caught staring. She just continued to walk, but now an ever so slight upward curve of her lips present.
The next morning, an assembly was called. The DWMA students were all taking their seats, chatting about what was going on. They knew they had transfer students, but since Black Star had been blabbing, they also knew about Wrath being a "teacher" or something. It was hard to tell since he was mostly just ranting about how he'd beat her next time. Spirit was leading the assembly next to a mirror so Shinigami could be present as well. "Alright, settle down!" Spirit stated. "Come out!" he called back stage, the 4 students walking out first. "These are your new class mates, transferred from the Ghost Hunter Association Academy! Treat them well!" he then turned to the backstage area again. "You can come out!" he stated, Wrath walking out on stage and wearing a more professional outfit than she'd been wearing yesterday. "And this is your new teacher! Wrath Ryugazaki, a graduate of the GHA's Academy! Treat her with respect!" He left out her reason for being here and her real position within the GHA, and with no explanation, the students seemed to take offense.
"What, you're kidding!" one person exclaimed. "She's hardly older than we are!"
"She doesn't look like anything special!"
"Hey, shut up!" Yuuji exclaimed. "She's a hell of a lot stronger than you!"
"How would you know, transfer student?!"
"Yeah, seriously!"
"Hey, back off!" Satoshi stepped in.
"W-wait, don't fight!" Tia tried to stop her partner. Wrath stood there looking exasperated before she took a black pistol from her pocket, the chain making a bell-like chime as her soul began to flare outward. She closed her eyes and raised the gun barrel to the ceiling, pulling the trigger after a mumble.
"Oblivion Phase 1… Silence Marker…" the shot fired up into the air, raining down on everyone who'd started yelling, putting a huge black X shape over their mouths. "That's enough… there's no reason to fight… if they need a display my power I will take them all on…" she added. Many of the students commented on how cool that was.
"Whoa, what was that?" one asked, as whispers spread through the crowd.
"Yuuji. Satoshi. I thought I asked you not to get mad if this happened…" she turned to them, a purple spade outline barely visible in her eyes. "I can handle the criticism… its nothing new…" Both boys froze, looking nervous before giving a slight bow of apology. She then turned to the DWMA students who'd been marked with the X. "As for you… if you want a challenge, then come ask for it. Do NOT pick fights with my students." Her soul began to flare again. "Do I make myself clear?" The students from the DWMA who had an X over their mouths all backed up a little from the woman on stage. They all sat back down. "This… is going to be a long semester…" she muttered to herself. She snapped her fingers and the X's vanished from their places over the mouths of the people.
"Alright alright, settle down!" Spirit stated. "I just told you to treat her with respect, you know!" Wrath turned to Spirit, putting her gun away. She bowed to the red-haired man and the mirror.
"Pardon my outburst, Shinigami-sama. Spirit-san." She stated.
"No no its quiet alright~" Shinigami said. "That technique is impressive, though." He nodded, turning to Spirit. "Now, if only YOU could get the students to settle so easily…"
"Sh-shinigami-sama don't say such thing…" Spirit replied, looking crestfallen.
"Well, in any case~" Shinigami exclaimed. "Everyone, please do be nice to Miss Ryugazaki. She's come a long way to assist us, and it's important that you not dismiss things she says easily!" he called to the large group of students. Although a little reluctant, the majority of them seemed to agree. But Wrath could sense some ill feelings. She bowed to Shinigami again before going over to her students.
"We're going back to the house. Come along." She stated, not waiting for them as she made her way off stage. They all scrambled after her as they headed out of the building and back to where they were staying, Wrath seeming quite bothered by all of this. Satoshi and Yuuji stayed perfectly quiet the whole way back, Tia and Aki trying their best to be cheerful, but to no avail. Wrath wouldn't speak to anyone when she was like this.
Back at the room where the meeting had been held, only one student seemed to notice how upset Wrath had been when she left, his heterochromatic yellow irises seeming lost as he stared at the door that Wrath and the other GHA students had left through. But eventually he got up and left with Maka, Soul, Tsubaki, Black Star, Liz, and Patti. But his mind remained on that lonesome look in her eyes that he'd caught a glimpse of before she walked off stage.
