I don't stay very long after that. Cas doesn't know how to console someone. He mainly just tells me that she isn't suffering anymore. And that her death had been quicker than others. It doesn't help. Sam calls my phone around midnight. I consider not answering, but I can't do that to him, "Hey Sammy."

"Where are you?"

"Out, why, what's wrong?"

Sam laughs, he sounds too young to sound so sad, "What isn't wrong Dean? Mom's dead. She didn't just die she was killed."

"Sam-"

"Are you with him?" there's something in his voice, he wasn't accusing me, he wanted to know if I had asked Cas about killing for us. I didn't want to do that.

"Yeah I am." I don't like the way Sam's mind is working. I don't like anything about the way today turned out.

"Don't ask him to do it." I widened my eyes with surprise and I saw Cas give me a strange look. "I know what I said earlier was wrong, we can't just take the law into our own hands. It's wrong and if we do anything to find this man we have to turn him into the police."

"We will Sammy. We'll find him and let the law punish him." Cas gives me a weird look but I turn away from him.

"Dean, there's something I have to tell you. I went into your room earlier, to see if you were home. And there was a note on your bed." I can hear the sound of wrinkling paper behind him and my heart drops.

Whoever this man is, he's not done. And he won't stop soon. "What did it say?" I quickly put my phone on speaker and grab Cas's arm.

"Just how many people do you love Dean Winchester?" Sam's voice cracks and I hear him suck in a breath. "I've got one brother left, let's see how you like it."

"Sammy, call the cops. I'm coming home now."

"Dean-" I hang up before he can say anything else and I look Cas in the eye.

"If you know anything, about who this is, you need to tell me. Please Cas, please."
He doesn't blink, or even hesitate, "If I knew anything I'd tell you."

The drive home is a blur. I ran stop lights and I fish tailed around too many corners but I managed to make it home in one piece. The police lights made everything seem more real. More dangerous. A cop stops me before I can make it inside, I can see Sam and dad standing in the kitchen talking to a cop. The cop who stopped me, Deputy Shaw starts talking to me. He has to repeat himself a few times, "Dean Winchester?"

"I'm sorry." My hands are shaking and I can't take my eyes off of my family. Off of Sam. "What do you want?"

"Where have you been?" he seems young, only a few years older than me. He probably thought that taking a job in the middle of God knows where would be easy. Well I'm sorry buddy. Things don't turn out easy for anyone.

I feel the phone in my pocket start to vibrate and I ignore it. What if it's Cas? "I was just driving around. I needed to clear my head. I needed to not think."

"Can someone prove that you were just driving around?"

I start to grow irritated and I tighten my hands into fists, "I drove around so much that I had to get gas at the edge of town." He nods to me and says that I can go to my family now.

You don't have to tell me twice.

"Dean." Dad looks when Sam calls my name, but he doesn't look at me for long. He hasn't looked at me since earlier today. Or I guess it was yesterday. I have no idea what time it is but I know it must be early. "Dean are you ok?"

"I'm fine Samantha. Are you?"

I look at the cop who was talking to Sam and my heart stumbles a little bit, its detective Hendrickson. "I thought that since the letter was addressed to you that it might be Castiel Novak that's causing you all this trouble again."

I want to shout at him that what this is, whatever is happening, this isn't just a little bit if trouble. This is a murdering spree that even Castiel wouldn't commit. "Thank you." My voice comes out sincere, and I start to wonder when I became such a good liar.

"Do you have any idea, any at all where Castiel Novak could be?"

"Are you sure that it's even him? What if it's someone completely different?"

Hendrickson looks doubtful so I go for another tactic. "Can I see the note? I know how he writes his letters"

Everyone, including the people nearby all look down to the spot on my arm covered in a jacket. To the spot where he carved his name into my skin. A girl deputy comes up and hands Hendrickson the note while I strip off my jacket and my flannel shirt.

It feels like the house itself holds its breath. But I already knew what we were going to find. "It's nowhere near close detective and you know it."

He turns to the woman who handed him the note and says something to quiet for us to hear. When he turns back around she leaves and he looks at the last three Winchesters. "Alright, we're going to have a cruiser stay here tonight and tomorrow. If need be we'll have them stay until we catch this bastard. And I'm going to give each of you my number just in case you find anything else I need you to call me first. Do you got that." He hands out three business cards to us and I see Sam stare at it.

"What about when I'm at school and dads at work and Dean's here alone? Or when both Dean and dad work late and I'm here alone?'

"Like I said, there's going to be a cruiser sitting outside the whole time. Don't worry." When everyone leaves, except the one cop, Sam and I go to my room and wait for dad to go to sleep. The clock on my desk says 3 a.m.

"Can I sleep in here tonight?"

"If I told you no would you leave?"

"No."

"Hey Sam?" I stand up and shut off the lights while he crawls into the far side of the bed and pulls the quilt up to his chin.

"Yea?"

"Are you going to school tomorrow?" the bed is already warm from him so I leave him the quilt. I don't know if I could sleep tonight anyways.

He stretches out his feet and they almost reach my own. He's going to be taller than me one day. "I don't want to. I think i have to though. I just don't want everyone staring at me like a freak."

"You are a freak."

"Jerk."

"Bitch."

"Are you going to work tomorrow?"

I hadn't thought about work, I probably should talk to Bobby. He'd like to hear the story from me, "Yeah I guess so." Sam's breathing starts to even out beside me and I turn away from him, "Don't kick me in your sleep."

"I love you too Dean." And I could tell that he was asleep. At least he gets to escape this nightmare we're living in.
