AN: Hey, everyone! Here's another mini chapter. The song was requested a long time ago (I think by a guest, but I'm not for sure) and I finally found a way to work it in. I know what I'm doing next, so the next chapter should be up within the week if all goes well. Enjoy!
The nations were fairly quiet. Gilbert was immensely bored.
A few nations were listening to music, though he had retaken his seat by the window and couldn't hear what they were listening to from there. There were a few pen clicks every now and then, some taking on a rhythm, but that was never enough to go by.
This was one of the meetings that procrastinating nations both loved and despised: a work day. It was one where they only walked in, sometimes chatted with a few friends, and then got to work on what their usually immense stack of papers. Being an ex-nation, Gilbert was usually short on activities when he managed to show up on these kinds of days.
For a while he had simply stared out the window. Sometimes people would look up, see him, and give him weird looks. That was pretty amusing. And then other times- like now- he would try to come up with stories for the people that walked by. They were in a busy part of the town, so there was no shortage. Sometimes they would stop and talk and he would try to see their expressions to add a little something to his make believe. Occasionally an animal would walk by. Other times he would wave and pretend they acknowledged what they probably saw as 'that weird guy' in the window.
Now, though… the effect had worn off. He kept glancing at the clock to see if any more time had passed, when in reality it had been only a minute or so.
This wouldn't do. Not for someone so awesome.
His ruby eyes skimmed around the room, finally landing on his brother after a few seconds. Ludwig did have a lot of work to do and… being the other half of the nation… he should probably help him out.
Gilbert slid off the spacey window sill and made his way over, getting a few glances from other nations. There was a seat next to his brother, but he settled for peeking over his shoulder instead. A few moments passed, like the ticking of the clock, and it seemed West hadn't noticed him. Another couple of seconds and he received an acknowledging glance and a slightly confused expression. More ticking… he tried to, unsuccessfully, read the paperwork Ludwig was working on. And then, after around a minute, the peeking became leaning and confused became exasperated- if a little begrudging.
That was his cue. "So," he whispered, his voice still sounding much too loud and out of place in the room, "Is there anything I can help with?"
His brother glanced at his paper, then to the stack, and thought a moment. "Hm…" For a second he thought they would agree, especially because he would be doing work, but he still shook his head. "Nein, I don't think so, Bruder. I've got it."
"Are you sure?" He wanted to say something like 'you shouldn't be doing all that crap by yourself', but it didn't really come out.
However, Ludwig was always very adept at translating. "Ja, I can handle it."
'This is nothing. I do more than this at home.' Pff. Yeah, okay. Remembering to keep his voice down, he argued, "Come on, West. Look at that all that." Grant it, his pile was smaller than most everyone else's, but he wasn't about to let him do it alone. Even if he hated paperwork, it was a different kind of boredom.
His brother hesitated a second longer before his expression softened. "…Alright. Just let me finish these." He held up the four page packet in his hand. It looked like he had just started and, knowing that Ludwig would generally go over most of the things in it to make sure, it would take the better half of ten minutes.
An idea suddenly struck and a smile slid onto his face as he nodded.
He could do a lot in ten minutes.
Ludwig sighed softly and set the paper to his right, immediately looking up to try and find his brother. Gilbert had gone off somewhere and… that generally wasn't a good sign, especially when he was bored.
After searching the room and finding a heap of nothing, he frowned. He double checked the window, and the door, but still couldn't find a thing. For a moment he tried to subtly peek under the table, but that also left no results.
And then he looked near the break room.
Just from the expression alone, the anticipation on his face, he knew that something was about to happen. He didn't know what, but it wouldn't be good. His bruder had his eyes set somewhere and, momentarily, he followed his gaze. Immediately, he found the culprit.
Oh scheiße.
Gilbert caught his eyes a second later, pleading that he stay quiet. His eyes kept flickering back, though, and that indicated that whatever was going to happen was going to happen soon. In this situation, he usually had two options; alert the one being pranked, or let it be. Right now… there was only one option.
His brother's face lit up, making him fight back a fond smile, when, suddenly, it happened.
"I like German sparkle party, sparkle party-!"
The room entered a new kind of silence as a few nations jumped, and all of them looked up to stare. The song was blasting- at full volume no less- from Roderich's phone.
He had no idea how his brother had managed to take the man's phone and slip it back without realizing it. Honestly, it was a bit impressive.
The man himself looked stricken, his face the epitome of horror. In that moment he could hear Gilbert cackling like a maniac from inside the break room and he could imagine him recording the whole thing. When Roderich fumbled to try and find his phone, he had to admit… it was kind of funny. When the Austrian had the device in his hands and found that he couldn't turn it off, the situation became hilarious.
By this time, the room was filled with laughter.
"I like German sparkle party! Sparkle Party~!"
"GILBERT!"
Roderich was out of his seat now and was storming towards the break room. His brother had obviously seen this coming, though, and exited, his face red, laughs still spilling out of his mouth.
"I-I'm sorry, Roddie, b-but you've gotta admit that it's pretty funny-"
And then the usually composed nation was chasing after the perpetrator, his phone still going off on the table. "You-"
"I- phaha- I regret NOTHING!"
That only brought a new cacophy of laughter, Ludwig himself joining in. After a minute or two though, he managed to calm himself down and find Eliza. She wasn't unaffected either, but she nodded when he caught her eyes, watching the trail behind the two almost fondly. Then she stood, and went after the two, who had now left the room and were probably scaring the employees.
Ludwig smiled and shook his head. Ah, yes… he did love his bruder.
AN: Thanks for reading and, as always, sorry for any errors that are probably in there. I'll be back with more soon!
Also, the song was made by... I think it was made by The Nothing Experience.
