Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well :) Here's Chapter 6, enjoy!

Normal POV

Santana slowly regained consciousness as Dani was finishing her song. She kept her eyes closed as the sweet melody of her girlfriend's voice filled the atmosphere until it ended.

"That was beautiful," she said whispered.

Dani gasped and opened her eyes at the sound of Santana's voice. "San?" She nearly throws her guitar on the floor and stands up, hovering over the hospital bed, taking the taller girl's hand in hers. "San, I'm so glad you're okay."

Santana looks up and Dani, then looks around the hospital room in confusion. "What happened? W-where are we?"

Dani looked down at her girlfriend as her face was filled with confusion and a hint of fear. "You were in an accident. You were coming home after your class and we were on the phone and someone ran a red light…they hit you," Dani explained. She prayed to God that Santana wasn't suffering from any memory loss. The only head injury the doctor explained was a concussion. The pink haired girl hoped that was the only one. "Do you remember, San?"

Santana kept her eyes on Dani and knitted her eyebrows together, trying to remember the events of the day. She searched her brain for answers and she couldn't seem to remember what landed her in the hospital. She looked down at her bandaged left wrist and felt bandages wrapped tightly around the top of her torso, just under her breasts and the stitches on her left side from the surgery and suddenly felt the pain of her injuries. "I…I can't-"

"Hey it's okay, baby," Dani interrupted. She saw that Santana was struggling to remember and she didn't want her to rack her brain or cause any more stress to her body than she already endured. She wanted her to rest and relax so she could recover as soon as possible. But Dani would be lying if she said she wasn't slightly afraid and nervous about Santana not being able to remember. The darker girl hasn't asked or wondered who she was when she woke up, so Dani was at least relieved that her girlfriend knew who she was. She doesn't think she could handle it if Santana didn't recognize her.

"Why can't I remember?" Santana asked fearfully. She looked up at Dani and a tear rolled down her cheek from frustration and the pain she felt from her fractured rib, sprained wrist, and stitches.

Dani wiped the tear with the pad of her thumb. "It's okay baby." Seeing her girlfriend scared and in pain, made the shorter girl want to break down, but she knew she had to be strong right now for her love. "Why don't you tell me what you do remember, maybe retracing her your steps will help bring it all back," Dani suggested.

Santana sniffled a bit. "Okay." She leaned her head back onto her pillow and looked up at the ceiling. "Umm I remember waking up this morning. You were snoring in my ear," she said with a small smile.

"Hey! I do not snore!" Dani quickly defended.

"You do. But it's a cute, light snore."

Dani rolled her eyes. "Ugh, whatever."

Santana continued to recite what she remembered from the day, going to her acting class, calling Dani during her lunch break. "Umm I think I went to a coffee shop afterwards. After that, it's all a blur. Dammit, why can't I remember?"

"San, don't worry about it, okay? It'll come back to you soon," Dani reassured. But she didn't know that for sure. She just wanted Santana to relax.

The nurse walked in a few moments later with a genuine smile. "Hello Ms. Lopez, I'm glad to see you're awake. How are you feeling?"

"Like hell," Santana answered honestly. "Can I get some pain meds or something? My entire body is killing me."

"Sure. I'll up the dosage of morphine in your IV just a tad and the pain will subside."

Dani moved back some while the nurse did her job, checking Santana's bandages and asking her a few questions about her condition and jotting words down on her chart.

"Dr. McKay will be here shortly to talk with you and answer any questions you have, okay?"

The couple answered the nurse and she walked out of the room, leaving them alone again.

"Is Denise here?" Santana asked, taking Dani's hand in her own.

"Yeah, she went to get coffee and some food. She should be back soon," the shorter girl informed. "Oh, and she called your mom and dad. They're getting on the next flight to New York, they should be here tonight."

Santana closed her eyes and sighed. She knows how worried her mom gets and was hoping she wasn't losing it right now. She looked over at her girlfriend who was staring at her, her eyes full of unshed tears. "What's wrong, babe?"

Dani wiped her face as soon as the tears fell. "I just feel like this is all my fault. If you didn't go to the coffee shop to call Brittany, if we weren't on the phone…I distracted you…this would've never happened if-"

Santana looked confused when Dani mentioned Brittany. Why was she calling Brittany? She decided not to try and remember right now, she'll deal with it later. "Dani it's not your fault," she interrupted. "That dick who ran the red light, that's whose fault it is. Don't blame yourself, okay baby?"

The pink haired girl wiped her face again and shook her head. "Okay." She ran the back of her fingers gently along Santana's cheek. "I'm so glad you're okay."

"Me too."

"Can I get you anything? Some water, ice, something to eat?" Dani offered. She planned to tend to her every need for as long as it took until she fully recovered.

"No, I'm fine. Just don't leave." Santana reached up carefully to place her hand on top of Dani's while leaning into her touch. She hoped Dani wouldn't mind her being so clingy.

"Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere," the shorter girl confirmed, giving Santana a small smile. She always thought clingy Santana was adorable.

Denise came back with a tray of coffees and food. "San, you're awake! How are you?" She asked as she sat everything down on one of the large chairs in the hospital room.

"I'm alright, waiting for this morphine to kick in."

"We were worried sick. I'm glad you're okay." The older woman walked to stand on Santana's other side. "You need anything?"

The darker girl smiled up at her girlfriend's sister. She was so grateful to have people that cared for her this much. "No, I'm good. I'm just happy you guys are here."

Dani and Denise sat down and began to eat their food and drink their coffee while they all talked. Dr. McKay walked in a little while later to check on Santana. She greeted Dani and Denise for the second time, then gave Santana her attention. "Hi Santana, how are you feeling?" She picked up the clipboard from the foot of the hospital bed and scanned her charts.

"I'm doing better. I'm not in as much pain as before, but I feel a little light headed."

Dr. McKay put down the charts and walked over to stand next to Santana. "Yeah that's a common side effect of the morphine. Any nausea or other symptoms?"

Santana shook her head no and winced a little bit as the doctor checked the stitches on her side from the surgery.

Dani noticed and immediately took her hand, giving it a light squeeze. She remembered Santana's slight memory loss and decided to ask the doctor about it.

"She can't seem to remember much of what happened before the accident. Is that normal?"

"Yes, it is. She suffered a severe concussion from the impact and it's common for patients to experience some amnesia after a head trauma," Dr. McKay explained. "Everything should come back to her soon, don't worry."

Dani was relieved. From what Santana recalled earlier, she gathered that the taller girl didn't remember the conversation she had with Brittany and she was afraid, they'd have to have the conversation all over again. "Okay. Thanks."

The doctor gave Dani a sympathetic smile. She could tell Dani was worried about her girlfriend and she was happy to give her good news about her condition. "Alright Santana, your stitches from the surgery seem fine. There aren't any postoperative complications. We're going to keep you here overnight for the next couple of days until you recover enough to be able to go home."

Dani didn't like the sound of that. "How long do you think that will be?"

"Maybe 2 or 3 days. We just want to monitor her and make sure she recovers properly from the surgery. Don't worry; we'll take good care of her. She'll be home in no time," the doctor reassured with a smile.

Dani knew Santana was in good hands, but she hated the idea of her being here all alone, and for several nights in a row. The shorter girl hated hospitals. She checked the time and it was nearing 6pm. Visiting hours ended at 8pm and she hoped Santana's parents would make it to see her in time.

When 7:30 rolled around, Santana's parents entered the room. Maribel began to cry as soon as she saw Santana, which was expected. They both walked quickly to the hospital bed, though remaining careful not to touch her in the wrong places.

"How are you feeling, mija?" Maribel asked through her sobs.

"I'm okay, mami." Santana took her mother's hand and tried to soothe her and calm her down.

"How did this happen?" Santana's dad asked. He shed a few tears and it broke Santana's heart. She rarely saw her father cry.

Dani and Denise filled her parents in on what happened. Her father grew angry as they explained someone ran a red light. He immediately asked if the man was in custody and they informed him that the man responsible was in custody of running a red light and hitting a pedestrian in the process. He calmed down a bit, but it was obvious he was still worked up. Ultimately, he was just glad that his baby girl was okay.

They were sad that they came a half hour before visiting hours were over, but Santana's parents promised to be back first thing in the morning when visitors were allowed back.

A few minutes before 8, Denise, Maribel, and Alex said their goodbyes and let Dani have a few minutes alone with Santana.

"I don't want you to go," the taller girl said sadly as she squeezed Dani's hand.

"I know, baby. I don't want to go either. But I'll be back in the morning, okay?"

Santana nodded and looked at her girlfriend through sleepy eyelids. "Okay." She gently pulled on Dani's hand, signaling her to lean down.

The shorter girl got the message and leaned down to press a soft kiss onto Santana's lips.

"I love you," Santana whispered.

"I love you too." Dani began to pull away and chuckled lightly when Santana tried to bring her back. She could tell Santana was exhausted and tired. Her body went through a lot today and she needed to rest.

"Don't go," she whispered as she closed her eyes, sleep pulling at her.

"I'll be back, first thing in the morning, San."

"You promise?"

"I promise, baby." Dani watched as Santana fell asleep instantly and placed a kiss on her forehead before leaving her alone.
