The plane landed in Japan several hours later. The 5 men walked out, and were immediately bundled into a car driven by Watari, taking them to the headquarters. This place triggered bad memories for Light, after all, he had been detained there for 50 days straight. They walked in to find Matsuda in a panic, as Aizawa and Mogi sat there motionless. 'Help! There has been so many killings today, we can't even keep track! I think they broke Aizawa and Mogi!' he cried, running around.

L simply walked over to the two policemen and pushed them off their chairs, making room for him and Light. Suddenly, they both sprang to life. 'Hey! What the hell was that for?!' Aizawa shouted, brushing himself off.

'You were 'broken'. I simply fixed you.' A monotonous reply echoed around the room. They switched their attentions to the computer screen in front of them. Even L paled, his already ivory skin losing all possible colour. He was glad he'd sent the boys upstairs to unpack, he didn't want them to see this. There had been 73 killings in the last 6 hours, but this time they weren't just criminals. Ordinary people had been killed ruthlessly, and this time they weren't just heart attacks. People were stabbed, decapitated, burned, crushed, but it was all by invisible hands. L turned to Light who looked equally as shellshocked. He then gasped, as he saw familiar names on the list of deceased. Soichiro Yagami... Sayu Yagami... Sachiko Yagami... Light gasped, his body shaking. Kira took his family... L put his hand on the brunette's shoulder. Light slumped, defeated. It wasn't enough for Kira to take over him, but he took his family. This made Light look bad, he was the only one of his family who wasn't yet killed. Aizawa, who had never trusted him, gave him an accusing look. 'We should detain him again.'

L gave him a death stare. 'Light has been with me the whole time in is no way that he is the killer.' He replied coldly. Light couldn't stop shaking. He was alone. His family gone. Kira out to get him. The only thing he had now was L and the trio. He just couldn't comprehend it. Why him? Why his family? Why was he the prime suspect?

'B-But he spoke to me just 2 days ago! He can't be dead!' Light was bordering hysterical.

'Please excuse us. We're very tired from the journey and we've just been hit by some very bad news. We will continue the investigation tomorrow. Goodnight.' L cut in at just the right moment. He grabbed his boyfriend by the wrist and began pulling him up the stairs, where he could cry in peace. The trio had done the sensible thing and gone to bed, so L didn't have to worry about any disturbances. The two of them sat down on the bed, and L took Light into his arms. 'It's okay, it's okay...' He whispered, 'Your father died a noble new what he was getting himself into. As for your family, that was unexpected and wrong. We will catch the killer. I promise.'

Light just sniffled and dug his face further into L's chest. Without L, he'd be nothing. The detective smiled, his boyfriend could be so uke sometimes.

The next morning came by too quickly. Light had regained his senses but was still shaken up by the events. 'L?' he asked softly.

'What is it?'

'Will we still be home in time for Christmas?'

L sighed. 'I don't know. This case looks like it's my biggest one yet.'

The trio were already downstairs and looking through the computers. Watari did have passwords on the servers but they'd forgotten that Matt was a computer genius and could hack his way through any firewall. They wished they hadn't though. The pictures were shocking, horrible even. People covered in blood, murdered ruthlessly. Even Mello was speechless, and he usually liked this sort of stuff. Matt, being his innocent self, was traumatised and Near's fear was visible in his eyes.

'This isn't Kira...' Near whispered. 'This is all too violent...'

At that moment, L walked in, and he gasped when he saw the teens. 'Please don't tell me you looked...'

Their facial expressions said it all. 'Oh no... Maybe I shouldn't have brought you along...' L sounded rueful. He went and 'sat' down next to them. 'I wasn't expecting this to happen. I don't think this is Kira... At least, not the Kira we're familiar with.'

Light came down the stairs. He was once again composed, and he sat next to Mello. 'L, I think they should stay, their intellect when put together is capable of exceeding even yours. If the 5 of us work together on this case, we can't lose.' He was right, 5 geniuses would be more than enough to stop this killer.

'This has to be someone different to the other Kira, the methods of killing are all wrong. Who was the first Kira L, did you ever catch them?' Mello asked, his eyes curious.

'I was. I think.' Light's words shocked everybody except L. ' I have no memories of anything like that, but at the same time, I have no memories of that time at all. Everything points towards me.'

'What matters most is you're not Kira now. Kira possessed you, he wasn't you. He acted through you. I knew it all along, we were just waiting for him to resurface. Either he's not going to, or he's busy somewhere else at the moment, hence this new Kira.'

'How can you trust me? For all you know, I could be Kira right now!' Light didn't understand why everyone was standing by him when be was obviously a prime suspect. Not that he wanted to be, of course.

'Light-kun, I know you're not Kira. I can just tell, ok?' L's eyes were soft and forgiving, and made everyone just want to melt.

Light looked down sadly. He knew he wasn't Kira, but be had been. 'Just think of how many people I killed...' His voice was barely a whisper. He'd thought about this often, and it still made him uneasy.

Aizawa walked in from upstairs, a tape recorder in hand. ' I think that's enough evidence! Detain him L! He's obviously Kira!'

'Aizawa, since when were you smarter than me? Detain Light if you wish, but by doing that, you'll be detaining me as well.' L countered, his eyes stony cold. Everyone was shocked at this. 'And me.' Matt's voice arose, defiant.

'In that case, me too.' Near was defiant.

'Count me OUT.' Mello said, but received 4 death glares. 'Ok, ok count me in...'

Matsuda walked in, unaware of the situation. 'What's going on?' he asked.

'Aizawa wants to detain Light, but he has no evidence!' Matt was physically seething.

'What? Aizawa, you can't do that! What would Mr. Yagami say?!' Matsuda exclaimed.

'Screw him! Kira is in this room and you just expect me to sit back and watch? Bullshit!'

Light didn't know what to say, he had so many people standing behind him. But he felt like crying, someone who had his father's complete trust was now trying to kill his son, just hours after his death.

Aizawa lunged forwards, knife in hand, but was caught easily by Mello and Matt, taser at each temple. 'Don' .With.L.' Mello growled, his mouth to his ear.

'Don't underestimate us.' Matt hissed, his voice unwavering.

Aizawa looked side to side in panic, then dropped to the floor, writhing in pain.

'What happened, I didn't taser him!' Mello asked.

'Me neither! I didn't touch him!' Matt cut in, but stopped short in terror. Aizawa's limbs were cracking and bending into weird positions, bones erupting from the skin. His limbs were being broken. His head began to twist backwards, accompanied by several sickening cracks. It turned 360 degrees, blood seeping from the wounds, and what used to be a detective lay mangled and lifeless on the floor. 'Kira...' L muttered, trying to get what happened around his head. Just a room away, A similar fate had taken Mogi too. Kira was planning this out. If they weren't careful, they'd all be dead. 'Light, we need to strengthen our security immediately. I can't let this happen to you.I don't know what I'd do without you...' L said, a sense of urgency in his voice.

'Waaaaait... Are you two seeing each other?!' Matsuda's tone was incredulous.

'Be quiet Matsuda , make yourself useful and make us some tea.' L said, a dry smile on his face.
