AN: Sorry about being MIA, I have been busy editing my Nano novel. I will attempt to upload a new chapter of this every other week, but it should be at least once a month. I would love to hear what you think so far!

Chapter Six - The First Day
After the welcome feast the night before Sadie had quickly made her way through her nightly routine before curling up in the comfortable four poster bed that was provided for every the scarlet curtains that surrounded her bed she heard the other girls in her dorm catching up. They spoke extensively the topics they covered included, boys, their holidays, Professor Umbridge, boys, up coming classes, and boys.
Sadie had been ignored by them. The others had become close during the first two weeks of attending Hogwarts. Sadie on the other hand had been tense and impolite, she had been waiting to be withdrawn from the school. She was also worrying how a Malfoy would be accepted into Gyrffindor house. Just after the twins had managed to befriend her, she had simply deflected one of their pranks back upon one of them, her father wrote to her explaining that she was still a Malfoy regardless of her house. By then it was too late for her to befriend the girls as they were a close knit group.
When Sadie awoke she walked down to the Great Hall by herself. She would not wait for the boys, she much preferred to take her time at meals, really enjoy them, and actually taste them. She found a seat easily enough and started eating slowly as the hall filled up around her. She sat and read her Charms textbook hoping to read ahead of their first lesson so she already understood the theory. Eventually the twins walked into the room smiles on their faces. The grins on their faces however informed Sadie that they wanted something. After wishing her a good morning they asked her a question in unison "Can you give this to your brother please?" She held her hand out for the piece of parchment that George had in his hand. She looked down and read the advertisement:
Gallons of Galleons!
Pocket money failing to keep up with your outgoings?
Like to earn a little extra gold?
Contact Fred and George Weasley, for simple part-time
Virtually painless jobs.
(We regret all work is undertaken at applicant's own risk.)
Sadie looked up at the twins in astonishment. "You seriously think that the Slytherins will volunteer?" they looked at her, puppy dog eyes now gracing their faces. She rolled her eyes but nodded her head regardless, if they didn't ask they didn't get. She would pass on the message regardless of the likelihood they would get a reply. Sadie looked at her finished breakfast and glanced up at the Slytherin table, she glanced down the length of it before concluding her brother was not there. She rose and quickly made her way out of the hall, and down to the dungeons. She stood outside of Snape's office a small smile on her face, she spent more time than other Gyffindor's in the dungeons, then again she wasn't going to be attacked by a Slytherin. As she was waiting for her brother to show up she felt an intimidating presence behind her.
"Miss Malfoy," the smooth dulcet tones of her Godfather filled the air around her. "you are loitering, is there a justification for you doing so?" Sadie turned and her dark eyes locked on to Severus' obsidian eyes. His hook nose made him look older than he really was, and though Sadie had never asked she had the feeling it had been broken a few times and not been healed magically. The frame she once thought was towering was now only a few inches taller than her.
"I am completing an errand Professor." Sadie stated, keeping eye contact at all times, she knew that Snape could smell a lie a mile away as such she had learnt to never lie outright, she had however learnt how to give as little information as possible while truthfully answering any question he asked.
"I have your time-table, if you are not returning to the Great Hall I would strongly suggest you procure it from myself." Sadie just nodded her head. She had a habit of visiting him before the start of the year, to wish him luck, he had started acquiring her time-table, so she would not have to return to the Hall after visiting him. After he had given her the piece of parchment she spoke once more.
"Thank you Professor. I hope you are not afflicted with any helpless potions students this year." He narrowed his eyes at her, but she noticed the small movement of his lips attempting to hold back a smile. She would have missed it if not for the years she had spent attempting to read her Father's emotions Sadie just grinned at him not bothering to hold back her feelings.
"There is little purpose in yearning for such a thing, I am still teaching Longbottom." Sadie smirked, she knew that Longbottom was useless at Potions, but his ability within Herbology was more than sufficient to make up for this flaw.
The conversation between them was abruptly stopped when Draco sauntered around the corner his posse in toe. Snape nodded towards Sadie and then walked away, most likely to the Great Hall. "Sadie this is earlier than usual for me to see you here." After his for lack of a better word 'friends' had wondered further down the corridor, he relaxed slightly leaning against the wall. His friends were not worried about him, after all this was the usual meeting spot if Sadie needed her brother for any reason, if Draco desired to speak to his sister he would undoubtedly find her in the library, usually sitting close to the Ancient Runes section.
"What do you need?" he asked, an eyebrow raised. He was feigning indifference, Sadie could tell that he was just putting on a show for his cronies, there was a small spark of interest in his eyes.
"The twins asked me to give you this." He took the piece of parchment, suspicion in his eyes. "They just want you to put it on the notice board." She quickly spoke attempting to allay his fears. He quickly scanned through the advert and looked back up at his sister frowning slightly.
"Do you really believe a Slytherin would answer this?" his eyebrows both raised and she could not help but laugh at the similarities of the argument, it appeared the pair thought alike.
"No, but if it isn't put up then I am sure that nobody will." Draco nodded his head but he clearly didn't agree with this ideology.
"Ok, I will do it. Have a good day." Sadie smiled in gratefulness, he nodded his head towards her and meandered towards his friends, continuing on his way to breakfast as though he was never interrupted. Sadie shook her head at his antics but understood his reasoning. She finally looked at the piece of parchment she had been given be Snape. She sighed at today's lessons, but was already planning her homework into the free period.
On her way to her first lesson she ran into George who offered her his arm, which she accepted without a fuss and they continued on their way. Silence reigned over them for a few moments both happy to be surrounded by students running around them. "How is your first day looking Mandy?" she took in his smug countenance. After all he and his brother only took three lessons each. Sadie on the other had taken six, meaning her time-table was a lot fuller than that of her friends. "I have Transfiguration," he grinned at her already knowing this, but she then continued a slight whine in her voice. "then double Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, my only free period of the day, followed by my most hated and loved subject, Ancient Runes." She informed him already wishing she had his time table. At least she would never have nothing to do, she attempted to take that as a silver lining but it was difficult she already could feel tiredness seeping into her bones simply with the thought of her impending workload.
Once the pair had arrived they made their way to the back of the class, George was not going to distract her note taking. They had a system, Sadie took down the notes, and then copied them for George, who in return helped her with the practical side of the lesson, she also did this with Fred and Charms. It was easier to practice spell work with someone watching you who can tell you where you are going wrong.
"Good Morning class, today we will re-cap what we covered last year then I will set some homework." Sadie groaned and placed her forehead on the table before her, she knew that this would happen in all of her lessons today. She was correct, well apart from Defence Against the Dark Arts.
