Guys, I was joking when I said i'd channel Shonda (Or was I?) But here's quick guide to see if i'm turning into SR- 1. Is there an unnecessary amount of Jake? (p.s. 'Any' is unnecessary) and 2. Has B613 taken over the story? If you answered 'No' to either of these questions you can rest assured that I'm not channeling Shonda lol.
Anyway its a short chapter this week, so apologies for that, but I hope you enjoy :)
Inauguration day was upon them, in just one short hour, Fitz would be standing at the front of the platform and he'd be swearing to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. It had felt like a lot of work had gone into getting him to this point, but Olivia knew it was all worth it.
She had stayed the night in the residence. The last week she had spent more nights there, than at her own apartment. Fitz didn't want her alone, just in case she went into labour during the middle of the night. Olivia tried to remind him about the agent stationed outside her door, but that didn't convince him. Olivia didn't put up much of a fight, she wanted to be there, just as much as Fitz did.
Olivia would be at the ceremony, and then she would disappear until the first or second ball. And it wasn't because she was trying to hide. She would have been walking side by side with Fitz in the parade, had she not been two and a half weeks from giving birth, and had it not been in the middle of winter.
No, she was going to be much more comfortable getting zipped into an expensive gown, that wasn't like her normal style. But nothing she wore recently was like her normal style. Nothing was normal anymore. She had to wear flats, because her ankles were too swollen. Her make-up was going to be minimal, because she couldn't stay in the chair for too long before needing to use the bathroom. And she thought her hair was going to be a mess, much for the same reason.
Although she would be on the platform for Fitz's ceremony, she wouldn't be all that visible. Of course, in two days she'd be allowed to sit up front, and could have even held the bible for him, but there was protocol in place, and tradition to keep to.
Knowing there was going to be a sit-down interview with her and Fitz, was causing her a lot of stress. She liked her privacy, liked to keep her secrets close, and in just two days they were going to out for everyone to read and talk about. Everyone was going to have an opinion on her life, and her baby's. She just wanted to be in their little bubble for a little longer. But she had already gotten as much time as she was going to.
When typical soon to be mothers were at this stage of their pregnancy, they were preparing for the baby, but Olivia was preparing for an interview. She had to hit the right cord with the American people or everything would fall apart. Everything she had carefully and painstakingly put into place, would be gone, it would vanish before her eyes.
She tried to keep calm and preparing for inauguration had helped. Because until Fitz had been sworn in again, there was nothing to worry about. It was only after that things would change. She'd had at least four months to get used to this. This had been the plan since she had come back from Vermont. But now the day was upon them, it felt far more daunting than she could have expected.
Olivia found her seat on the platform, she was at least five rows behind Fitz, she could barely see anything. But that meant she could barely be seen. And that bought her some comfort. She watched as Karen held the bible for her father and smiled as Fitz took his oath for the second time. Maybe everything would work out. It seemingly had so far.
When the ceremony was over, and everyone was standing to leave, Liv made her quick exit. She and Fitz caught each other's eyes and everything they wanted to say to the other came across in one look.
She'd see him later, he had his duties to attend to.
…
After spinning Karen around the dance floor, Fitz couldn't help keeping a look out for Olivia as his eyes glided along the crowd. She wasn't there yet. And he knew that for a fact, because he could always tell when she was in the room.
He bowed to his daughter, and everyone clapped, as he led her off the floor. He kissed her the cheek before going over to one of his secret service agents. "Where's Olivia?" He asked quietly, so only the agent could hear. The agent took out his cell and made a call.
"She apologises, but she's running late, sir, some kind of shoe emergency" he explained after getting off the phone. "She'll surely be at the second ball," he added.
Fitz decided to try and enjoy the event without her there. After all, how many times could a man celebrate his own inauguration? Well, twice really. But so much had happened since the first that it had seemed like a lifetime ago. Everything would soon start being separated into first term and second term. And he already knew that he was going to be far happier his second time around.
The alcohol was flowing, and after one champagne to toast, he was steering clear. Do you know how drunk you get from just toasting at each of the eight balls? From what he remembered he was near tipsy by the third ball last time. He wanted to really remember this one.
There was a lot of hand shaking and photo ops, something he had come to be quite used to, no matter how much he truly despised it. But it came with the job, and people called you 'Mr President', which was a nice perk.
They would be leaving this ball in ten minutes, give or take, but that couldn't come fast enough. Fitz just wanted Olivia. He knew Olivia wouldn't think it about herself, but he wanted to see how amazing she looked. He literally couldn't imagine anyone looking as good as Olivia would tonight.
It was unfair. All he wanted to do was lead Olivia into each event and be allowed to have her on his arm. And if they were going to go public in two days then why couldn't they start by acting like they truly were tonight. But Olivia would be against it, she didn't want to rock the boat until it time. And like he always said, he'd do anything Olivia wanted. Especially now, she was so close to give birth he didn't want to be the one causing any access stress. And if this was what she thought she could handle, then so be it.
The second ball was just like the first. Same toast, same big wigs, same photo ops, same music, same dances. It was the exact same, even down to the fact that Olivia still wasn't there.
"Okay, where is she?" Fitz asked, again going over to the same agent. She had promised she would be there, and it was now halfway through the second ball, and he wanted to see her. He wanted to be with her. He wanted to thank her. She was the reason he was here.
"She didn't want you to know until now, Mr President," the agent said.
"Know what?" Fitz asked, the worry forming in his voice becoming evident.
"She's gone into labour, sir," he said, and Fitz began to panic internally.
Same Fitz Same
