Chapter 25

Help You To Remember The Dead

My phone began to buzz in my pocket rising me out of my sleepy daze. I lifted my head off the window it had been laying on. I looked down to find Isaac's head on my lap as he slept in the most awkward angle possible. Even with his body contoured his face looked so serene. The buzzing began again and I pulled it out of my jacket pocket to find Stiles' face on the screen.

"What's up?" I whispered.

"Where are you?" Stiles asked in a rush.

"With Isaac, why?"

"Get to police station now. We found who's controlling the Kanima. It's Matt." My whole posture changed. Matt. I knew it. I knew something wasn't right with him.

"We were so right! High five Stilinski!" I said in an excited tone that matched Stiles'. He chuckled in response and said he'd be waiting at the station. I ended the call to see Isaac staring up at me with a frown.

"Before you say anything. I have to go." My voice was steady and I knew that it was causing Isaac distress.

"Aria, the Kanima, is dangerous. Matt is dangerous. I don't want you to go." I opened my mouth to protest but Isaac placed a finger on my lips hushing me. "But, I know you will anyway. So, I'm going to go with you. I have to protect you even though most of the time you don't need me too." Isaac caressed my cheek and leaned down to kiss me.

"It's a full moon. I don't think it's such a good idea. What if you lose control?" I questioned looking at the boy I loved nervously.

"I won't. Not anymore. Not ever." Isaac's lips crashed into mine. The kiss was sweet and passionate and I felt my insides stir with yearning. "With you I will never loss control. I love you." Isaac whispered. I smiled and brushed my hands through his unrolling curls.

"I love you, too." I whispered and gave his a stray curl a small tug.

I knew Isaac would be in danger regardless if he had found his anchor. I couldn't let that happen to him so I did what I had too. I leaned in and kissed Isaac and placed my hand on his forehead. Isaac looked at me in confusion.

"I'm sorry." Isaac's eyes widened with realization at what was going to happen next.

"Somnus." I whispered before he had a chance to react.

Isaac instantly went limp as he went into a deep slumber. I kissed the top of his curls and laid his head against the window. I gave Isaac one last look before I turned and headed out the door. I was about to open the door to my car when my phone began buzzing again. I looked down at the screen to see a number I didn't recognize.

"Hello?"

"Aria, it's Alan. Dr. Deaton. I need you to meet at the Hale house now. It's urgent." Deaton's voice cause a surge of panic to rush through me.

"What has happened?" I questioned as I jumped into my car.

"It's Derek. He's hurt. I need your help."

I stomped on the brake and put the car in park. I burst out of the car not to certain of I had even turned the car off, but I didn't care to be honest. It was Derek. He needed me. Regardless of how much he angered and disappointed me. He was still important to me. In a strange way I still cared about him.

"Deaton!" I shouted as I rushed through the front door.

"Over here." He called out.

I followed his voice and found him in what used to be a living room. Derek was sprawled on the floor looking lifeless. My heart dropped into my stomach.

No.

In an instantly I was at Derek's side. I placed a shaky hand on his forehead. It was cold. This couldn't be. I had treated him horribly and I needed to tell him I was sorry. I needed to let him know that I still cared about him. Tears trickled down my cheeks.

"He's going to be okay but I need you to help. He's in a void."

"A What?"

"He's in between the living and the dead. We need to bring him back." Deaton's words scared me.

I nodded my head in response.

"What can I do?"

"You need to lay beside him." Deaton instructed.

I looked toward the ground beside Derek and realized there was a hole in floor. I looked up questioningly at Deaton who was looking at me with worry.

"It's Peter. He's alive."

"How i-" Deaton interrupted my question.

"Not now Aria. We need to hurry." He motioned toward Derek.

Right, Derek needed me. We could handle Peter later. In an instant I was laying beside his body.

"Place your left hand in his right."

My trembling hand found his and I laced our fingers together.

"Aria, you are going to have to tap into your spirit magic. We haven't delved into that very much we've only touched the surface. What I am asking you to do is something only highly trained Guardians can do, but we don't have much time. You will just have to trust me." I looked up at Deaton as the weight of his words hit me.

"D-d-do you think…" I took a deep calming breath. "Do you think I can do this?"

"Yes. You are stronger than your mother was at your age." I nodded my head and swallowed down my fear.

"Now, center yourself. Clear your mind. Take calming breaths and focus on your body. How it feels as light as feather. You can feel yourself floating up into the air. Everything around you is becoming distant…" Suddenly Deaton's voice stopped.

It became silent. I opened my eyes to find that it was bright. Too bright. I instantly tried to bring my hand to my eyes but realized my left hand was holding on to something. I turned to my left to see a drenched in sweat Derek laying beside me. The sight reminded me why I was in this void. I looked around to see just endless white haze. I turned back to Derek and sat up.

"Derek. Wake up. Derek." I pleaded as I squeezed his hand in mine.

Nothing.

"Derek. Please wake up. I need you to be okay. Please." I placed my forehead on his sweaty chest.

"I need you to be okay." I repeated as a tear fell from my eye.

"Please." A small whimper escaped my trembling lips.

Suddenly two arms encased my shaking body.

"Milena." Derek's voiced echoed.

As his words bounced around my ears my body suddenly felt like it was sucked down, and the air in my lungs was knocked out of me. I instantly shot up and gasped for air. Thats when I realized it was dark again and I could hear a voice calling my name. I turned around to see Deaton walking toward me.

"Aria, can you hear me?" Deaton's voice sounded muffled as if I was underwater.

I closed my eyes and shook my head trying to regain myself. I felt a hand grab my chin and I opened my eyes to see a set of Dereks. I shut my eyes instantly. Derek's grip on my chin tightened and he jerked my chin gently. Again, I opened my eyes but this time only one Derek appeared and his eyes were boring into me.

"Aria. Are you okay?" Derek's voice echoed with concern.

I nodded my head in response. Derek's eyes still held worry but the intensity died a bit.

"You two need to get to Scott. I sent Orion and Paige but he's going to need you two as well. We don't have much time." Deaton supplied breaking the intense moment Derek and I had going.

I nodded my head and attempted to get up but found myself staggering to the floor. Luckily for me Derek and Deaton reacted in time if not I think my nose what have been busted.

"You might be weak for several hours." Deaton informed me as he helped me stand up straight.

"That actually happened?" Derek said as he looked down to the busted floor.

"Don't worry. You're still an Alpha. But, as usual, not a particularly competent one." Deaton supplied and I looked to Derek to see him giving Deaton the stink eye.

"Where is he?" Derek's was even but you could hear the rage simmering.

"I wish I could tell you."

"Then how about you tell me what you're doing here, and why you got Aria into helping me."

"He helped me save your life. How about you show him some respect." I quipped causing Derek to look at me.

Derek's hazel eyes again began to search mine. I could see the confusion and sadness that Derek usually hid so well.

"Helping your family actually used to be a pretty important part of my life. Helping you was a promise I made to your mother. Just like the one I made to Aria's mother." Deaton said causing me to look at him with a grateful smile.

"You're the one my sister talked about. She said you're a - kind of advisor?"

"She was right. And I have some advice that you need to listen to very closely right now. What Peter managed to do doesn't come without a price. He'll be physically weak, so he'll rely on the strength of his intelligence, his cunning. He's gonna come at you and Aria. He needs her for whatever master plan he is working on. Keep her safe and protect her at all cost. He'll try to twist his way inside your head, preying on your insecurities. He'll tell you that he's the only way you can stop Gerard. Do not trust him." Deaton then turned to me.

"I don't trust anyone." Derek quipped quickly.

I felt my stomach drop and my heart stop. I felt the tears prickle and gather in my eyes. Derek was never going change and I am stupid for hoping he would.

"I know. If you did, you might be the Alpha you like to think you are. And unfortunately, the two people you should trust don't trust you at all." Deaton supplied.

"Scott." Derek replied but held a quizzical look.

"And me." My voice came out stronger than I thought it would.

Derek turned to me and his eyes instantly shown with regret, but of course, like always he masked his true feelings and replaced them with stone cold walls.

"Scott's with Stilinski right now. You two need to find him, you need to find him as fast as you can. I've known Gerard for a long time. He always has a plan. Something tells me - it's going exactly the way he wants it to."

"I know where they are." I supplied.

Derek and I walked toward the front door of the station in silence. The car ride had started with Derek thanking me and me telling him to shove it. I wasn't going to accept an apology from someone who didn't trust me, after I saved his lives. Since then we both hadn't uttered a word.

I pushed the door to find it was locked.

Seriously?

I placed my hand over the bolt wielded my air magic to pop it off. I was glad that even with my weakened state I could use my magic. I kicked open the door to find Matt holding a gun at Scott's head. My heart stopped.

"Scott." The name escaped my lips causing him to look at me with fear in his eyes. He turned to look at a surprised Matt.

"Please, don't hurt her." Scott pleaded.

"I knew you were different I just didn't know how different." Matt's voice brought a chill down my spine. I looked to Stiles who's eyes were dangerously watery.

"Matt, please, don't hurt her." Stiles pleaded causing Matt to become angry.

"SHUT UP!" He yelled causing the three of us to jump up. "I'm not going to hurt her." His eyes glint evilly.

"What are you going to do to me then?" My voice shivered a bit but I stood my ground.

"I don't know yet." Matt answered with gun still pointing directly at me. I looked to Stiles who is looking at me with panic. I try my best to show him I'm not afraid for my life, but in reality, I am. I am scared that he is going to shoot me and I'm going to die here in front of my best friend and cousin whom I love dearly.

"Brought someone with you?" Matt pointed toward the door.

"Yeah. Back up." I answered defiantly. Matt arches his eyebrow and shakes head.

I turned around to see Derek standing extremely still. His lips in a thin line. I move to the side to let him through but instead he is pushed into the station and thrown on the floor by Jackson.

You've got to be kidding me!

Derek looked at me with worried eyes and then toward Matt with anger.

"This is the one controlling him. This kid?" Derek's condescending tone made my lip twitch into a small smirk.

"Well, Derek, not everyone's lucky enough to be a big, bad werewolf." I gasped and turned to Matt who was looking around at us with an evil smirk. "Oh, yeah, that's - that's right. I've learned a few things lately. Werewolves, hunters, kanimas. It's like a frickin' Halloween party every full moon. Except for you two, Stilinski's. What do you turn into?"

"Abominable snowman. But, uh, it's more of, like, a wintertime thing, you know, seasonal." Stiles sarcasm whips out like lashes.

"Well, I don't turn into anything but I can do this."

I concentrate on Matt's gun and bring all of my negative hot energy into the pistol. Matt screams out in pain causing the gun to fall to the floor. His hand has a scorch mark inside.

"YOU BITCH!" He yelled out.

I staggered back in weakness. I was drained. Deaton wasn't over exaggerating the way I'd hoped. Suddenly a hot fire spread across my stomach.

"NO!" Three voices echoed around me but was replaced by a small ringing in my ears.

I looked down to see Jackson's claw coming out of my stomach. I felt my mouth fill with thick metallic tasting liquid.

Blood. No. Not good.

My legs began to numb and I watched as the world tilted around me. I felt two arms catch me. I looked up to see Stiles milk chocolate eyes filled with tears staring down at me. He was saying something but I couldn't hear him. It was eerily quiet. I desperately wanted to hear his voice. I felt my lungs begin to fill with fire and lose precious oxygen. I tried to pull in as much air as I could but nothing was entering. I felt the world around me began to haze and at that moment I wished I could see Isaac one last time. I tried to tell myself it was okay he at least knew that I loved him. The two people who I wanted to see more than Isaac at this moment were my Dad and Uncle Jack. I just wanted to tell them both I loved them.

I took in a few ragged breaths.

"Tell both." I tried to inhale more oxygen. "Dads. I-I love them." Stiles eyes watered.

I fought to take in air and watched as Scott came into view. I looked up at him and saw his sweet boyish face was looking down at me as if his world had fallen apart right in front of him. Tears began to fall down his face and his hand made it's way toward me. I felt a warmth fill my cheek and suddenly Scott's voice echoed in my ears.

"Rimi, hold on. Please." His voice shook and cracked.

"You can't leave me, too. Remember when my mom died, you said," Stiles stopped mid sentence and cries over took him. I raised my hand to his face. "You promised it'd be me, you and Scott against the world forever. You can't leave us. Me." The last word made it's way out with a cry.

I opened my mouth to speak but liquid started to clog my throat causing me to cough. Stiles closed his eyes as he cried clutching me in his arms. Scott placed both hands on either side of my face. The warmth that was once there was beginning to fade and become cold.

"Fight. Please." Scott voice drifted slowly into my ears.

The world became hazy once again and I could faintly hear cries. I struggled to bring air into my lungs as Scott became blurrier as each passing second. I felt myself slipping away. I knew I wasn't going to make it. So, I watched as my best friend watched me die and my only thought was.

I love you.

Scott heard her last heartbeat. He looked down at her chocolate colored eyes that used to hold so much life. That used to hold a thousand suns behind them that her eyes were the brightest darkest eyes he'd ever seen. Even after everything she had been through she was always the brightest light in his life and held the biggest spot in his heart. The only piece that didn't belong to Allison.

Now, as he looked down at her lifeless eyes Scott felt that piece of his heart shatter into a million pieces. He let out a cry of anguish as he brought his head down toward her forehead. In that moment he let out the saddest howl he'd ever let out. Scott hadn't ever howled in his whole existence as a werewolf but the first and only time he had was the saddest one. Suddenly it wasn't just his howl of pain filling the air but Derek's as well.

Derek's eyes were filled with tears and he didn't care that they were flowing freely down his face. That was Aria. The pain in the ass, beautiful, stubborn best thing to ever happen to him Aria; and it killed him that she'd died without knowing the truth. He had trusted her, more than anyone. She'd been the only good thing in his life since he'd been back to Beacon Hills and he'd continually sabotaged their relationship.

He didn't know how he was going to explain this to Isaac. But, he was pretty sure, the howling he'd and Scott had done would. Derek wished he could get up and bring Aria into his arms and make her better but he knew he couldn't.

Stiles held Aria's limp body in his arms. He knew it would sound weird if he said this to anyone but he felt her leave her body. He felt the moment she was gone. It was like the warmth in her body was sucked out. He kept his eyes closed not wanting to see her lifeless body, even though he could feel it. Stiles still held her body tightly as he openly wept.

Stiles could hear his father's voice echoing from the back begging to know what was going on. He didn't know how he was going to break it to him. The only daughter he'd ever had. The glue that held him and his father together. He'd didn't like to admit it before but, when I Aria arrived, it lit a flame that was long flickered out between his family. She made them laugh again like his mother used too. Now, just like his mother she was gone too.

He slowly opened his eyes and looked down to see Scott caressing her face and kissing Aria's forehead lovingly. When Scott moved back Stiles was able to see her. She laid there lifeless. Lips stained red and parted where she let out her last breath and eyes staring directly at Scott. Stiles let out an anguished filled cry.

"I WILL KILL YOU!" He yelled as he ran toward Matt.

"NO!" Scott yelled out as Jackson slashed Stiles' neck hindering him.
