Hey guys. Thanks again for your amazing reviews. So I made a decision where to take this story. I started it as a Matt / Gabby / Severide Story and yep that's the way I will end it. As I started this story Matt and Gabby weren't dating at the show so I really liked the idea of them together.

If you guys are longing for a Severide Casey story I have to search my head for a good idea and maybe start a new story…. :o)

So here we go again…..and I really really hope that you won't be to shocked at the end of this chapter!

Chapter 21 – Just fine

Severide looked up as the doors busted open and Dawson entered the room.

"How is he?" She asked, clearly troubled.
"I wanted to call you but…."
"You should have called me!" Gabriela interrupted and Severide could see that she was mad at him.

"Dawson you needed some time off, your father needed you too." Severide pointed out.

"How is he?" He asked.

"Better. He will be released from the hospital today. Shay had called yesterday to tell me that Matt had to undergo skin transplantation. I was….you really should have called me!"

"I am sorry you are right. It wasn't on me to make this decision. I just wanted to protect you from making a decision whether to leave Matt or your father." Gabby exhaled deeply now sitting down on the other side of Matt's bed.

"He was awake."

"What?" She asked starring at Severide out of disbelieve.

"Yeah he was really good. We already talked. He is going to be okay Gabby, I promise. Skin transplantation went great, he is out of the woods now." Severide said while watching the tears building up in Gabby's eyes.

Severide and Dawson sat in silence for another two hours until Matt was slightly shifting in his bed again.

"Pain medication seems to wear off." Severide pointed out as a soft and small moan escaped Matt's mouth before his eyes flutter open.

"Hey there." Gabby said overwhelmed to look into this blue eyes again.

"Gabby." Matt said and Severide could see how happy he was to have her by his side.

"How are you?" She asked softly touching Matt's cheek.

"I don't know. Tired and in pain."

"I will give the doctor a call to…."

"No." Matt interrupted getting Severide and Dawson to look at him.

"The pain medication will suck me into sleep again."

"It's the best you can do right now." Severide said.

"Matt he is right. Your body needs time to heal."

"I know but I just want to be full responsive for more than 10 minutes. The pain is okay, I can deal with it, I just want to talk to you guys for a little while."

"Don't rush it, you just got back out of a very very long sleep." Dawson said smiling softly. "Kelly filled me in about everything. Hey, how is your dad?"

The two of them continued to talk until Matt had to give in and get something for the pain again.

Four weeks later….

"I am so glad to finally walk out of here." Matt said while Kelly was supporting him tightly. He knew that Matt had a lot of physiotherapy and that he was stable on his own but Kelly just wanted to bring him home safe after everything they had been through.

"And you are absolutely sure you want to go home on your own?" Kelly asked for what felt like the hundredths time. He had tried to get Matt to stay with him or with Dawson but on the other side he could understand that Matt needed some privacy, that he wanted to be on his own again. The shrink Robert had talked to him and Dawson and had filled them in about Matt. He knew that he didn't need to worry anymore but Severide was afraid that it could all get downwards again once Matt was back in his daily routine.

"Kelly we all really need to get back to our normal lives, to our normal routines. You heard the doctor, the wounds are healing perfectly fine. I will be back to work in 4 weeks so there really is nothing to worry about anymore." Severide just nodded guiding Matt towards the car. He knew that the wound on Matt's leg was still sore so he wasn't surprised as Matt slightly flinched while getting his right leg into the car. Severide knew that it was only a matter of time until his friend would not feel pain anymore. Yesterday on the last examination he had seen both, the wound on Matt's leg as well as his arm. Severide had to swallow hard but also he had to admit that the wounds where clearly healing, that Matt was getting better. It had helped him to be with Matt during this examination and he knew that Matt had only asked him to be with him because he knew it too.

"Call me if you need anything."

"I will."

"You promise?"

"Kelly come on! Of course. Now don't worry, get Shay, grab something to eat, spent time together, sleep, do whatever you want without worrying for just a second, you hear me?" Casey said as he entered his house right behind Severide who was carrying his bag.

"Hey Matt!" Gabby said getting Matt to look up in surprise.

"Hey. I haven't expected you here."

"I know. I just cleaned up a bit and stocked your fridge."

"Guys seriously I can't thank you enough for everything you have done."

"You are welcome." Severide said still remaining in place.

"If you need anything…." Gabby was cut off by Matt.

"I will call you both." Matt said laughing

"It's good you are back." Gabby said gently hugging Matt.

"Thanks."

Matt was glad as he closed the door behind his friends. He was deeply thankful for all of their help and for everything they had done to him during the past weeks but right now he just wanted to be alone for a while, get everything that had happened straight. It was the first time he was really able to think everything thou and this time it felt difficult. After the events of the last weeks he was now perfectly clear that killing himself or harming himself was not an option. He had seen his friends crying for him, he had seen what his mindless action had done to them and to him. He knew that he still wasn't completely okay. There where just to many things bothering him, to many things he needed to come clean with. His family, his mother, the death of his father, the end of Hallies and his engagement, Darden's death, his feelings for Dawson, he really needed help with all of this things but he wasn't feeling awkward for it anymore.
Robert had told him a good sentence he was saying himself over and over again.

"We can't change what had happened in your live, we can just figure out how you can love your life again, just as it is, not as you wish it would be."

And Matt knew that he was going to be alright, with the help of his family and his friends.
