This takes place after chapter 54, as a little side note on Dauntless justice and the friendship between Zeke and Four, but also the understanding between Zeke and Ro.
Ro pushed his helmet into his locker, shaking it to get it around his body armor, but he still had to shut the door fast to keep it from falling out. Zeke and Bernie leaned in the doorway of the locker room, letting each member of Ro's patrol slip out single file with a curt nod. Ro took a breath. A chill slid down from the nape of his neck out along his arms. He hoped it wouldn't come to this, but there was no denying he sort of expected it. He made the analysis of his body seeking past simple fatigue for what could give him trouble. He took note of the ache in his right ankle and the stiffness in his neck, but otherwise, he felt right as rain.
The last member of his patrol, Aggie, glanced between him and the Pedrads and back. This would be his fight and only his fight. His nod told her it was Dauntless law coming to pay a visit. And everyone knew Pedrads kept to the rules. It wouldn't go too far, or get out of hand. Just a plain, honest fight.
"I warned you," Zeke pushed off the doorway and onto his feet.
Bernie shifted behind him, there only if Zeke needed his help and to keep things from escalating.
"They aren't the most obvious couple, okay?" Ro started, as if there was a defense that could stop the altercation.
"And the dancing and the flirting was fine until I warned you." Zeke flexed his fists.
"Yeah, so where is Four? Sending you to do his work?" Ro tightened his belt and put his shoe up on the bench to tie it.
"I warned you. You didn't back off. This can be between us about you disrespecting me, or I can go get Four. But you know, I watched him almost beat a man to death last spring. I couldn't pull him off him until it was almost too late. So, it's your call. Keep this between us, or I can go get him?"
"Let's get on with it then." Ro pulled his fists up to his chin, widened his stance and waited for Zeke's advance.
Zeke stepped in to the through-way between the lockers. The bench between them. Ro glanced down to find the end of the wood. Zeke took the opening, launching over the wood and slamming Ro into the lockers with his shoulder. Ro hit hard and pushed back, but couldn't get his elbows extended to punch. Zeke twisted him until he faced the locker and gave him three fast punches to the lower back before letting him fall to the floor to gasp.
"Don't make me tell you again, you and Tris are friends, and nothing more. Got it?"
"Yeah, got it," Ro pushed up onto his hands and knees and then sat back against the lockers, not ready to stand up.
"You're lucky Four thought that was just dancing, he almost ended you right there," Zeke sat on the bench and rubbed his knuckles.
Bernie stepped up and offered Ro a hand. Smiling while he asked, "Time for beers?"
Ro took Bernie's hand and stood up careful. "The kidneys?"
"Probably should keep it to one beer." Zeke slapped his shoulder and lead the way out.
Some of y'all wanted Ro put in his place and there would be a clash of titans if Four were the one to do it. Zeke knows better than to let that happen. He loves Tobias too much to see him get in that sort of trouble.
