Sorry about the late update. Hope you enjoy this one though! It was Lily's idea to prank the Marauders. She came up with the idea on the train back after Easter, saying that she decided that she needed some good laughs in the exam term in order not to go completely crazy. Lily has a way of completely stressing out over exams and work in general because (as she told me in third year) she feels that she has to do really well to hold up the names of muggle-borns everywhere, which is why she can quite often come over as uptight. (Include Potter into that mix and she could almost be Professor McGonagall's younger sister.)

I'll follow you and make a heaven out of hell, and I'll die by your hand which I love so well. - William Shakespeare

Her reasoning was quite sound; that the Marauders got a lot of enjoyment out of it and so we should too. However, pranking could upset/embarrass people but she thought that it was almost impossible to embarrass a Marauder and they all had a good sense of humour, it would most likely not cause said embarrassment or distress. Plus she wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine. So there it was, our aim for the term.

We spent the first three weeks planning our prank and then had to wait another week whilst we sent the order to the Magical Garden Emporium in Diagon Alley and for them to send us back the items we had ordered. Our idea was to create a garden in their dormitory and so to do so we had Mr. Magden's overnight grass, which you could sprinkle on the ground, it would grow overnight and then in the morning the Marauders would wake up to a beautiful green lawn instead of their dormitory. There were also overnight flower seeds mixed in with the grass, although we were careful not to have any rose or lily seeds in case that gave us away. We had a portable fountain, and, le piece de resistance, a few little fish to go in it.

Two weeks before the exams, we were all set. As Lily had predicted, it proved a welcome distraction from the upcoming exams and all the homework teachers were piling upon us. There was a sense of fevered excitement as we woke up that Saturday morning. The plan was that Katie and Megs would act as lookouts for the boys whilst Lily and I crept up into their dormitory during dinner and sowed the grass and flower seed. Alice would be sent to notify us if the boys were anywhere near the Gryffindor Tower. Then, Lily and I would leave, after opening a window a crack. The boys would then go to bed and overnight the grass would grow. Around five in the morning, we would levitate the portable fountain in through the window having reduced the size and then increase the size before putting the fish in it and leaving the boys to wake up to their new dormitory.

We all spent the day catching up on work (Lily, Alice and I were of the mind get your work done first, and normally then managed to coerce Katie and Megs into doing their work too) and soon, enough, it was dinnertime. We all went down to dinner early, sitting near the doors so Alice could slip out if the Marauders started to stand up and leave. We didn't quite manage to smother of giggles as the boys walked into the Great Hall. Thankfully they didn't seem to notice anything was amiss (we were teenage girls; this particular species has a habit of giggling). Lily and I quickly ate up and then, with a salute to the others, made our way hastily to the Tower. Grabbing the seed from just inside our dorm, we snuck back down to the empty Common Room and made our way up into the 6th Year Boys Dormitories.

To be honest, the mess that greeted us wasn't that bad. Having been to my brothers' flats at university, I knew what a real mess could look like. Plus I knew what to expect from my time up there before when I had my conversation with James. There were clothes strewn everywhere, the beds unmade, apart from one at the end which I took to be Remus', a trunk open on the farthest bed, but apart from that it was alright. I guess having house-elves to clean up every few days tended to ensure that a room was tidy.

We began to spread the grass and flower seed, and had just about finished when I heard a deep voice resonating up the stairs. I froze, hardly daring to breathe as I tried to deduce to whom the voice belonged. Surely Alice... Lily was happily spreading seed in the bathroom and had not heard the voice.

"Lily!" I hissed.

She didn't hear me.

"Lily!" I hissed again. She poked her head out of the bathroom, a wide grin upon her face.

"Just spread some seed in the shower. I wish I could see their faces when they have to stand in grass and flowers to wash!" she announced triumphantly.

"Lily!" I whispered.

"What? Why do you keep..."

She froze as the voice resonated again, this time joined by another.

"... and did you see that dive! It was incredible. I didn't know that a beater of his proportions would have the aero-dynamics to pull that off!"

There was no doubt about the owner of that voice. The tramping footsteps were fast approaching and Lily and I were standing like dazed idiots with sacks in the middle of their bedroom.

"We've got to hide! Anywhere!" Lily rushed towards the cupboard and yanked it open, only to have a pile of clothes fall on top of her.

I darted my eyes around the room, looking for a hiding place.

"How about under the bed?" I ventured.

"That's so obvious. They'd find us in a minute." she whispered helplessly.

The voices were almost at the landing. Any moment now the boys would be in the room and we would be caught red-handed.

"Lily!" I sighed plaintively.

She grimaced at me, then nodded and as one, we dived under the nearest two beds, not a moment too soon as the door opened and in walked James and Black.

From my position under the bed, all I could see was their shoes. One pair quite scuffed, although well-made and the other highly polished and also well-made. If the shoes were anything like their wearers' hair, I could tell which wizard was which. The scruffy shoes reminded me of Potter's messy hair and generally untidy appearance, whereas the shiny shoes were indicative of Black's shiny hair, impeccable robes and the sense of casual elegance which he exuded.

The shiny shoes made their way over to rest barely two feet from my face, the heels towards me as the wearer sat on the bed under which I was laying, in the powder of dust sprinkled there. The scruffy shoes were about six feet away, toes towards me as the wearer sat on the bed above Lily's hiding place. I could see Lily's eyes staring at me widely.

The urge was inappropriate. And annoying. But the thing about Sod's Law and laughter is that is doesn't care how much trouble you are going to get into. In fact, it most likely wants to get you into that trouble. Why else do you always have the urge to laugh in the most unsuitable situations? Like when a teacher is shouting at you? Or in the middle of a wedding? I felt my chest heave with the effort of holding in the laughter, my face screw up so as not to open my lips. In the end, I think it was only through practically biting through my tongue (I tasted the blood, I can tell you) that I managed not to start snorting then and there. I could see Lily doing her hardest not to laugh as well.

Fortunately for my tongue and for Lily's lungs, the boys stopped talking about Quidditch. This news was heralded by the arrival of a pristine white shirt on the floor in front of my face. I abruptly stopped my suppressed laughter and caught Lily's eye. Her face was priceless, eyes bugged out as if she had only just realised the implications of our position. Sirius' voice announced. A hand reached down to pull off the shoes and socks, and as lovely as the outside appearance was, it seems that all boys' feet, whether encased in clean shoes or not, all stink. I had to breathe through my mouth for about a minute as the smell wafted towards me.

"Right mate, I think I'm gonna hit the shower."

Fortunately (or not so fortunately – I couldn't really decide) Sirius then made his way into the bathroom and shut the door for his shower.

James then proceeded to kick his shoes off, one flying into the wall, the other straight under the bed into Lily's stomach. James sighed, and then stood up. He went and picked up the shoe which had hit the wall, then knelt down by the bed to pick up the other one, right next to Lily. His head descended to look under the bed.

Cliffhanger! I don't think I've done one yet, so I thought I'd treat you all! Next chapter should be up in the next week/ week and a half. Thanks so much to all reviewers. Lol EllieBaby xxx
