"It's been three months and nothing has happened." Caroline said as she was putting groceries away. "I honestly think it's over."
Nick sighed and leaned against the counter, his arms crossed, "He waited three months before. Stefan has people on the lookout and last they heard of him, he was looking for us in Hawaii. That was roughly two months ago."
"Maybe he gave up."
He shook his head, "He's obsessed with you. He's probably lurking and waiting for the moment he thinks we're vulnerable."
She sighed and looked at him, "I want him dead. I know it's bad to think, but when…when you killed Michael, I felt a million times safer. With Mason out there and…knowing that he will hurt anyone to get to me, makes me more scared than ever. At least we sort of knew what to expect with Michael. But Mason, he targeted Becca of all people to find us. He threatened Stefan and you and we both know he isn't bluffing. I just want all this to be over."
Nick went up to her and placed his hands on her shoulders, "I promise you, it's going to end. I can't exactly promise you when it will be over, but just trust me when I say that you won't have to live in fear forever."
"You know that you can't make promises you can't keep." She said before turning away and continuing to put the groceries into the various cabinets in the kitchen.
"It was worth a shot." He shrugged while opening a package of meat; planning to make hamburgers for dinner.
Caroline looked over and the sight of the raw red meat made her stomach churn. Covering her mouth, she ran to the bathroom and barely made it to the toilet before emptying the contents of her stomach.
This had already been the fifth time this has happened in the past week alone and she was starting to wonder what the hell was wrong.
"Are you okay?" She heard Nick ask in concern and felt him pull her hair back.
She shrugged slightly, "I don't know what happened…"
"You've been getting sick a lot lately…Maybe we should take you to the doctor…"
"I need to brush my teeth." She said before flushing the toilet and standing up, her knees shaky. He helped her and stood behind her, just in case she got sick again.
While brushing her teeth, Caroline tried to figure out why she had been getting sick, she hadn't eaten anything new or rotten, that she'd noticed. She didn't feel feverish so she couldn't have had the flu.
Just then, they both heard their front door open and in walked Kol and Rebecca.
Rebecca had followed the sound of the running water and saw Caroline, who seemed clammy and pale, "Aw did you get sick again?" She asked in concern.
Nick nodded for her and Kol walked over, a huge grin on his face, "Bonnie and I have a bet. I honestly think you've gotten yourself knocked up and Bonnie keeps telling me you just have the flu or something. So I bought you this." He said while reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out a pregnancy test box.
Caroline, who was placing her toothbrush down and wiping her mouth, froze at the thought that she might be pregnant… "Oh my god…" She said under her breath before snatching the box from Kol, shooing both him and Nick out and pulling Rebecca into the bathroom with her.
Three months. He had been searching all over these islands for three fucking months and there was no sign of her anywhere.
He had called Rebecca to see if Caroline and Nick had returned home but she never answered; maybe he was calling the wrong number or maybe she was purposefully ignoring him. Either way, he wasn't leaving this island until he knew for sure that she wasn't here.
He didn't want to return home only to discover that she was still here and waste time. He had to find her.
Two months ago, he tracked down where they had been staying only to be told that they had checked out exactly two months before. He knew that they were smart and she wouldn't want her honeymoon cut short. Maybe they had just gone to another hotel.
It took him two weeks to search every hotel online to see the new arrivals and still he came up with nothing.
It took him three months to realize that Caroline and Nick had given him the slip; three months to realize that Rebecca had warned them. He was planning on killing her before, but now he wanted to make her suffer for ruining his plan. He was going to kill Nick and take her away; show her all the people that had betrayed her and would kill them too. That was his plan and Rebecca ruined it all.
In anger, he bought himself a plane ticket and started forming a new plan.
Caroline was going to be his and he didn't care who he had to kill to make that happen.
"You honestly think you're pregnant?" Rebecca asked as she sat with Caroline in the bathroom.
"It's a possibility." Caroline shrugged as they both looked anywhere but the test that was sitting on the counter.
Rebecca couldn't help but smile, "What are you going to do if you are?"
Caroline though about it for a moment and smiled a bit at the thought, "Protect him or her with my life." Then she sighed and looked down, "But it wouldn't be fair to this kid, being born into this family full of so much fear and danger."
"It's been quiet for three months." Rebecca reminded her.
"Ha. Yeah, it was quite before, Becca." Caroline said as the timer on her phone went off; she didn't turn to look at the test, two things stopped her; fear and panic.
Rebecca rose from her resting spot against the door and went over to the test and looked at it, "Would you like me to tell you the result or are you just going to stand there and ignore it?"
Caroline just shook her head, she didn't understand why the fear and panic were all settling in now. She knew she and Nick could handle a baby, they loved each other enough to commit to it all. They were married for crying out loud, so "Why the hell am I scared?" she asked, slightly breathless.
"Maybe because…Well, I know you were beyond terrified at the thought of losing Nick, just like I am at the thought of losing Stefan…But I'm sure the thought of losing a child is far more frightening…" Rebecca surmised while looking at Caroline with a bit more sympathy than Caroline would like.
Caroline nodded a little bit and sighed before gathering herself and looking at the test…
While Rebecca and Caroline were tending to the whole pregnancy test taking, Nick was busy pacing in the living room while Kol looked on and laughed.
"Nervous there, Daddy?" Kol asked in between his laughs.
Nick shot him a glare, "We don't know if she's pregnant or not, Kol."
"We will very soon, god you look hilarious when you're scared. You didn't even look like this at the wedding." Kol laughed again, this time snapping a picture of Nick on his phone. "I'm sending this to Elijah with the caption, 'You're gonna be a Grandpa!'"
"Must you treat everything like a goddamn joke? This is serious! If-If she's pregnant then all this shit with Mason is going to have to be stopped one way or another. We have to find him and either have him locked up or something because I refuse to have her and our child in any form of danger." Nick ranted slightly, over-thinking everything that could possibly go wrong, just like Caroline was doing.
Kol smiled, "See…Even though we had one shitty ass father, you dear brother, are going to be exceptional; whether it be now or in the future."
Nick was about to reply but Caroline and Rebecca walked in.
Caroline smiled at Klaus, "It's now actually…"
