Somebody To Die For
Chapter 34
Anna placed a hand on her chest and looked at her hand, covered in blood. "Carol, get down, quick!" Anna yelled at them, as everyone ducked for cover, and they heard gunshots going off.
She grabbed Rebecca as they heard gunshots going off and one of the bullets hitting her in the shoulder as well as she shielded her daughter and Carol.
"Mama, mama." Rebecca sobbed terrified.
"Sh, everything's going to be alright." Anna comforted her as her eyes started to close and she clutched her daughter tightly.
"Anna, stay awake," Carol said as she pressed a cloth to the wounds to stop the bleeding, and tried to clean them out. "We're going to be OK, Rick is safe, and the men are going to take care of it," she assured her, as the gunshots stopped, and Hershel hurried over to Anna so he could stitch her up.
"I'm going to guess that's Heath and his group," Maggie said alarmed.
"I guess so." Sophia said as she helped Beth keep the children calm when Dean took out his gun and checked the ammo.
"I'm so tired, so tired." Anna said, her voice slurred as she held Rebecca's tiny hand and her daughter started to cry.
"Someone help her!" Sophia cried as she picked up the distressed infant.
Hershel hurried over and sat Anna up, holding a cold cloth to her forehead, and finishing stitching up the wounds so she didn't lose anymore blood. Maggie brought over a drink and a sandwich to try and give her some of her energy back, before Rick hurried over.
"Anna, you're OK," he soothed. "They're gone now, you're alright."
She gave him a weak smile as Tom and Matthew ran over with James, Carl and Judith just as they saw Daryl and Bailey come in.
"What the fuck happened?"
"Heath and his group came back," Rick said tiredly, as he helped Hershel place a bandage over the stitched up areas, and helped Anna up and onto the sofa.
"Is Becky OK?" Anna panicked. "She was beside me."
"She's fine," Rick assured her. "You saved her life," he added as he rubbed her sore shoulder gently. "Let's just hope they don't come back again."
"Well that was very entertaining." Merle said dryly as he grinned at Daryl and Bailey who were holding the triplets and Aoife, Dean and Rayland ran over.
"Pa, mama can we see the babies?!" Dean asked excitedly and Bailey smiled at him as they sat down and showed the three cooing girls.
"Didn't pick a great time to come home," Morgan frowned. "Especially with Heath and the rest of the group around. No doubt they'll be back."
"We'll be ready for them," Rick assured him. "We could work on the security of the place or something?"
"We tried that before with Nate and Chris," Glenn said quietly. "Didn't work, remember?"
"That was different Glenn, please lets not all argue." Bailey said as she rocked Charlotte in her arms and looked at everyone softly.
"Would you all like to hold them?"
"Sure," Carol said as she took Lara.
"Who's on watch?" Rick asked. "How did Heath and the group manage to get in without being spotted?"
"They broke down a part of the fence and managed to get in." Will said sighing as Peggy waved at him and Patricia.
"Hello there, little lady." He said smiling.
"They're so beautiful, mama." Dean said as Aoife played with Charlotte.
"What are their names?" Beth asked warmly.
"Charlotte, Lara and Peggy," Daryl answered.
"As long as everyone's alright," Rick said softly, as he helped Anna sit up. "Come on, we should get you into bed for a rest."
Anna nodded and let him take her upstairs as everyone fussed over the babies and smiled at them happily.
"Can we hold them?" Aoife asked softly.
"Sure ya can, they're yer sisters," Daryl replied.
Aoife nodded as they played happily with their newest members of the family.
The next few days passed by without any incident and everyone relaxed slightly, little Josh and Maria were blooming along with Damien and Annette, they were like partners in crime.
Charlotte, Lara and Peggy were beautiful little angels and looked exactly like their parents and siblings, Charlotte was quiet and sweet while Lara was a cheeky monkey, and Peggy was soft and content.
"They're beautiful." Bailey said softly.
"They sure are," Daryl smiled as he looked down at them lovingly, and they snored softly as they slept.
"Peggy's got curly brown hair." She said lovingly and stroked their faces as Daryl rubbed her flat stomach tenderly.
"How are ya feeling?" He asked softly.
"I'm alright thanks," she said with a small smile, as she stroked Rayland's hair as he watched over his sisters. "Just a little sore still."
"I'm glad; I love ya so fuckin much." He said kissing her passionately and she kissed him back with just as much love before he held her tightly.
"I love you too," she said softly as she rubbed his back gently. "I love all of you," she added as she smiled down at her sleeping children.
"We love ya too." He said holding her close as they slept with Dean and Aoife curling into them happily.
"We got some good children there," she said with a smile as she went back downstairs where Patricia was making dinner. "Anything I can help you with?"
"You can help with making the stew." Patricia said warmly as they made rabbit stew with carrots, the smell made her hungry.
"How are you and Will going, Patricia?" She asked kindly.
"We're going good," Patricia smiled. "I really like him."
Bailey smiled happily at her. "Never know, you two might get married soon, and you'll be Daryl's new mom," she chuckled.
"I don't see that happening anytime." Patricia said blushing as they finished cooking and heard knocking on the door.
"Who on earth is that?" She asked confused.
Bailey walked over towards the door and answered, to be met with Catherine and John smiling at her. "Hi Bailey," John said softly. "May we come in?"
Bailey nodded as she let them into the kitchen. "What can we help you with?"
"We were wondering if you could gather the whole group, we need to tell you all something about a dangerous group that has been stealing supplies from groups and killing them." Catherine explained and Bailey nodded as she gathered everyone and they all looked worried.
"What's going on?" Rick asked calmly.
"It's about a dangerous group we've come across," John said as Bailey handed him and Catherine a cup of coffee.
"We've already encountered them," Rick said quietly. "No need to explain to us."
"You've met them?" John asked concerned as he saw bruises on Rick's face and arms, he also noticed that Anna had a bandage across her shoulder.
"They attacked us and beat Rick." Anna explained as Rose headed outside to catch some frogs and smiled happily.
"You all need to be aware that this group is full of sadistic people including a violent paedophile and two serial rapists who escaped prison." Catherine said gently.
"What do you want us to do about it?" Merle asked annoyed as he looked at the two FBI agents.
"We don't want you to do anything," John confirmed. "We were just warning you."
"How the hell did they escape prison?" Axel asked shocked as Sophia sat beside him and Carol, Rick had Anna into him tightly.
"We believe when the dead rose, they escaped." John said as they got up to leave.
"Thank you for letting us know," Bailey smiled as she pat his arm gently. "We appreciate you still looking out for us and everything."
He smiled back at her. "Don't worry about it."
She nodded and smiled as they drove away and rejoined the others as she took Rayland's hand and helped Patricia and Maggie set the table.
"Dean could you get the kids down for dinner?" She asked her son warmly.
Dean nodded. "Sure mama," he said as he went off, and slowly the kids started to come into the kitchen and sat down. Dean came back about five minutes later. "I can't find Aunt Rose," he said quickly.
"What do you mean?" Will asked his grandson. "She went out to the garden, did you check there?"
"I checked there too grandpa, she isn't there." He said quickly and they all hurried outside to look for Rose when they saw that her teddy bear was on the floor.
"No, no, ROSE!" Will yelled as he looked around for his daughter, terrified that something had happened to her like his poor Essie.
"Dad, dad, it's alright," Merle assured him as he put a hand on his shoulder. "We'll get her back, we'll find her. Daryl and I will go," he said softly.
"Let me come with you," Will pleaded.
"Alright pa but ya don't do anything crazy." Daryl said as they grabbed their guns and hugged their women as Dylan clung to Patricia and wept.
"I shoulda gone with her." He sobbed.
Patricia stroked his hair gently as she held him close. "You didn't do anything wrong, Dylan," she assured him. "You didn't know it wasn't your fault."
"What should we do?" Glenn asked. "Is there anything we can do?"
"Just make sure she isn't hiding in the house or that there are any clues." Daryl said and everyone nodded as they all broke up.
Bailey kissed Daryl hard on the mouth, "You'll find her and please be careful." She said softly.
Merle hugged Beth tightly while Will said goodbye to Patricia and Dylan as the three men got in the car and drove off.
Rose was tied up on a chair with two women deciding what she should wear, they were Disney costumes and she tried to get the ropes off.
"Please let me go, I won't tell anyone." She pleaded as a black woman walked in with two men behind her.
"Dress her up and make sure she's wearing make up." The woman said coldly.
"Please... Please don't hurt me," she begged. "My daddy is going to be looking for me, and my brothers," she warned them, as one of the women took off her clothes, and started to put her in a dress. "Stop it!"
"Shut the fuck up bitch!" A man snarled and slapped her hard across the face as they put her in the dress and started applying make up.
"Get the drugs ready, Tess."
The woman nodded and set up a drip, which they inserted into her skin, pumping a clear liquid through it, and Rose watched before she fell asleep.
Daryl, Merle and Will were searching through the woods when they found an abandoned house near where the estate was.
"Ya think Rose is in there?" Daryl asked quietly.
"It's worth a try," Merle said as they parked up the car and got out quietly. "She could be anywhere."
Will gripped his riffle tightly as they all got out and saw two men taking out a body, his heart jumped into his mouth.
"Daryl, Merle, is that Rose?" He choked.
Daryl looked closer. "No, I don't think so," he said softly, as he aimed his crossbow and fired at the men. "But we'll check it out."
Will nodded and they hurried over to where the men were and saw that it was a baby lying in a thin blanket, snuffling.
"WHERE IS MY FUCKIN DAUGHTER?!" He snarled and grabbed the man by the shirt.
"Get the hell offa me!" the man snapped as he shoved Will away.
Daryl raised his crossbow and aimed at the man. "He asked ya a goddamn question!"
"I aint telling ya'll anything." The man said before Will punched him across the face and the man collapsed as Will started to brutally beat him.
"She's inside the house, alright with Randall!"
"Fucking Randall?" Merle snapped. "Didn't we kill him already?" he asked.
"Let's just go and get her!" Will said as he stormed inside.
He stormed inside the house and shot one man who charged towards him and his two sons as he saw Rose being dragged away by Randall.
"DADDY, MERLE, DARYL!"
"Son of a bitch!" Will snapped as he stormed towards Randall and pulled out his knife. "LET GO OF MY DAUGHTER!"
Randall smirked and threw Rose over the railings as she screamed terrified as Will watched horrified and heard her crash onto the floor.
"ROSE!"
"Go to her!" Daryl said quickly, as he and Merle charged towards Randall. "WE'RE GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!" he growled, as they both took out their weapons.
The doors were kicked open then and FBI agents stormed the house and called to Daryl, Merle and Will who holding an unconscious Rose.
"FBI DON'T MOVE, DROP YOUR WEAPONS!"
Daryl, Merle and Will dropped whatever they had as the FBI rushed through the house, handcuffing all the men they could find, and shooting those who were resisting. John and Catherine came in at the back and seen the Dixons. "What the hell are y'all doing here?" John asked.
"These bastards took my daughter and we went to find her, Randall threw her over the railings and she needs help. PLEASE!" Will pleaded.
"Take her to the estate and we'll bring a medical team to you." John said quickly.
They nodded as the three men hurried back to the car with Will holding onto Rose tightly, as John radioed in a medical team, and he and Catherine followed them back in the car behind, where Big Tiny let them all in through the gates.
"Hershel we need ya'll!" Daryl yelled as Maggie opened the front door and they all hurried inside where they took Rose upstairs to her bedroom.
"Daddy?" Rose asked weakly as Will placed her on the bed, her face was scrunched up in pain and there was blood on her dress.
"I'm here Rosie, daddy's here." Will said holding her tightly.
"It hurts in between my legs, daddy." She sobbed and started to have a fit.
Just then, two strange young men rushed into the house, with John behind them. "Don't worry, they're with me," he assured them. "This is Henry and Brad, they're paramedics," he said, as they hurried over to where Rose was and tried to stabilize her.
"Sir I'm afraid you have to leave." One of the paramedics said to him gently and Will shook his head firmly, he wouldn't leave his baby girl.
"I'm not leaving."
Henry huffed for a minute before looking at Brad and nodding. "Fine, but you need to move back and let us do our job," he said firmly. Will nodded reluctantly and took a couple of steps back, but still stayed close.
He watched as they managed to stabilize Rose and felt his heart break as he watched Brad attach an IV to her right arm.
"Mr Dixon I need to take a statement from you and the others." John said gently.
"There ain't fuckin' anythin' to tell ya!" Will snapped as he watched over Rose. "While ya were here this afternoon my little girl was taken! We went to the house and we found her all fuckin' dressed up and shit, Christ knows what those sick bastards did to her. Then Randall pushed her over the railings an' you showed up!"
John knew Will was upset and saw Patricia come over along with a female medic who looked sad but firm.
"Mr Dixon I need to see if Rose was sexually violated and you need to leave." The woman said gently and Will crumbled.
"But she'll be alone?" He asked brokenly.
Patricia rubbed his arm gently. "No, she won't be, don't worry. I'll stay here," she said softly, as she followed the woman to the bed with Rose.
She followed Amber into the room where she took out a rape kit and while she did that, Patricia got Rose a nightgown and her favourite teddy bear when Bailey and Beth came in to help her.
"She was definitely raped." Amber said sighing as she went to tell Catherine and John as they watched her go.
"This will kill Will." Patricia said wiping her eyes.
Beth hugged her tightly as they looked over at Rose who was asleep. "It's alright, it's alright. She's alive and she's safe now," she assured her, as Will came back in looking distraught.
"Amber told me."
"I'm so sorry Will." Patricia said feeling tears in her eyes and Will pulled her into him as they both cried and Dylan came in and cuddled into them sobbing.
"How is she?" Daryl asked Bailey, his eyes were red and there was rage in his piercing blue eyes as he pulled her into him.
"She's asleep," Bailey said quietly. "There was signs of... sexual abuse," she added, her voice dropping to a whisper.
Daryl paled and Beth was talking to Merle gently and he saw Merle let out a sob as he felt his own eyes burn with tears.
"Was it like Emma?" He asked trying not to cry.
Bailey nodded and held him tightly. "Yes. I'm so sorry, Daryl," she said quietly as she rubbed his back. "But she's going to live."
"I should have kept an eye on her, I'm her big brother and Dylan's my baby brother, I failed them Bailey and my old man." He broke down sobbing and Bailey pulled him into her tightly as he sobbed heartbrokenly.
"It wasn't your fault, Daryl, there was nothing you could have done," she said. "No one knew the group was going to go into the garden and take her. You got her back, that's all that matters, it could have been a lot worse," she said as she pulled him up. "Go to bed, get some sleep."
"Ya sure ya don't need help with the uns?" He asked worried and she nodded as she took him into their room where he took off his clothes and curled under the sheets as Aoife, Dean and Rayland snuggled into him with the triplets sleeping in their cribs.
"I love you Daryl." She said kissing him.
"Love ya too," he whispered, as he held the children tightly.
Bailey sighed and went downstairs where John was waiting with Brad and Henry. "What are you going to do with them? Randall and the others?"
"We'll take them into jail where there will be a trial and you'll all need to come to testify." John said softly and Beth sighed sadly as she watched the kids play.
"Does that include Rose and Emma?"
"Emma won't, it was Nate and Chris who was responsible for what happened to her. But Rose will, yes," he said sadly. "We'll try and delay it for a bit, give her time to recover."
Bailey smiled and hugged John tightly. "Thank you. For what you do for us."
"It was no trouble, I'm sorry we didn't catch those animals sooner." He said sadly and left along with Catherine as they all watched with Dylan coming down with Patricia.
"Will Rose be alright?"
Beth gave him a small smile. "She'll be fine, sweetheart, your daddy is looking after her now. And the bad men are going to be punished for what they did."
"Wish we could kill them with our own hands in the Dixon tradition." Dylan said sadly and stroked Ben who curled into his owner's body.
"Don't worry, they'll get what's coming to them," Beth assured him, as she held the twins. "I'm going to go up and check on Merle," she said softly as she left the room.
Beth found Merle in their bedroom looking through a photo album as he smoked a cigarette, his face was pale and tears slid down his face.
"I'm supposed to protect my family."
"You do protect your family," Beth said softly as she sat down next to him. "You protect me, and you protect Damien and Annette, and you protect Dylan and Rose too. But you can't be there all the time, you had no idea that would happen," she said as she hugged him tightly.
"I didn't protect Daryl though or Bailey or Essie who I was supposed to fuckin keep an eye on. That's why dad belted me, I didn't watch Essie and then she just disappeared and we found her body in the woods two weeks later, she'd been raped and strangled." Merle sobbed.
"Will knows you're sorry." Beth said gently and Merle sobbed harder.
Beth sighed sadly as she held him tightly and rubbed his arm soothingly. "You're a good man, Merle, whether you believe it or not," she assured him as he fell asleep leaning against her.
Will had barely left Rose's side and soon Daryl, Bailey, Merle, Beth and Patricia sat with him as they held vigil over Rose, Dylan sat by him.
"Daddy?"
"Rose, sweetheart?" Will asked softly as he held her hand. "It's me, I'm here. Yer safe now," he assured her, as he touched her bruised cheek gently.
"You all came to save me, daddy I'm so sorry for going into the garden." She sobbed.
"It wasn't your fault, Rose," Will assured her. "Nothing was your fault, please don't blame yourself," he said as he hugged her. "You're safe now, we're here."
Rose nodded and cuddled into Will as Dylan sat on her other side when Patricia spoke gently to her.
"Are you hungry sweetheart?"
"A little," Rose said with a faint smile, as Patricia went to make something for her to eat. "Thank you all for saving me."
"Of course we would save you, sweetheart," Will said softly.
"Ya our baby sister, Dixons protect their own." Daryl said kissing her forehead as Bailey went to help Patricia cook lunch.
"Shall we make her blueberry pancakes and a hot chocolate?" Patricia said softly.
Bailey nodded with a small smile. "Yeah, sounds good," she said as she got out what they needed.
They cooked the food and made the drink as they brought it upstairs and placed it on a tray as Rose looked up looking shy.
"Thank you."
"You don't need to thank us," Patricia smiled as Rose began to eat her lunch, and she sat back down beside her. "We're just glad you're OK."
Rose smiled softly at her and hugged her tightly as she finished eating and fell asleep, her chest rising and falling softly.
"Thank you." Will said kissing her gently.
"You don't need to thank me," Patricia said softly. "Y'all are like family to me too," she said with a smile.
"I'm glad," Will said as he rubbed her arm gently. "Because you're our family."
Patricia smiled gently and sat by him and Dylan as the others headed outside and went downstairs with Bailey rocking Lara to sleep as Peggy and Charlotte played with Annette, Judith, Maria and Aoife, Rebecca was playing as well with Judith.
"How are you and Rick?" She asked Anna warmly.
"We're good thank you," Anna said as she subconsciously rubbed her shoulder. "We both seemed to have healed up pretty well, luckily enough."
"That's good." Bailey said as she rocked Lara to sleep and she cuddled into her mother as Daryl sat down beside her.
"Can I hold her?"
"You don't have to ask that Daryl, you're her father," Bailey said as she handed Lara over to him, and he rocked her in his arms.
He smiled down at his third daughter, she had dark brown tufts of curls and had beautiful dark blue eyes that shone brightly, and she placed a tiny hand on his cheek.
"Hey there sweetheart." He said softly.
She cooed back at him and Daryl kissed her forehead softly as he stroked her hair. "Yer beautiful, ain't ya? All three of ya are," he grinned as he held her close.
Peggy and Charlotte cooed at him as well, waving their arms at him as Bailey picked up Charlotte and Peggy who snuggled into their parents.
"Peggy's tiny compared to Charlotte and Lara, mama." Dean said softly.
Bailey smiled at him and ruffled his hair, as she gave a bottle to her girls.
"How's Rose?" Anna asked them all.
"She's doing a little better," Beth smiled. "She's eating again. She's resting now though."
"I'm glad." Rick said relived that Rose was alright as they all sat in a peaceful silence when Anna got up to check on the kids who were playing outside.
She smiled when she saw Sam and Peter playing baseball with Carl and Sophia as Tom, Matthew and Becky looked on smiling with James.
She was just about to go say hello when something was smashed over her head and she collapsed to the floor as someone dragged her away.
Carol was making dinner with Maggie a few hours later, when Rick came in looking worried. "Has anyone seen Anna around?" he asked.
"Not since lunch, maybe she's upstairs with the kids." Maggie suggested and Rick nodded as he headed upstairs to see if Anna was there.
"Anna?"
"She's not here dad!" Carl called back from his bedroom, before coming out to see his father. "Is everything OK?"
Rick nodded. "I think so; I just can't find your mom around anywhere. Help me look?"
"Sure, no problem." Carl said and they all looked around in each of the rooms and couldn't find Anna anywhere.
"Where the hell could she be?" Rick asked worried.
Carl looked confused for a minute before he looked worriedly at his dad. "Dad... what about Heath and his group?" he asked alarmed. "Do you think they've taken her?"
Rick paled and ran outside with Carl behind him as he saw tyre tracks leading away from the house along with blood on the ground.
"We're going after them!" Rick said quickly as he ran back into his house for the car keys. "We're going to get her back, and we're going to end Heath. This isn't what we need, what with the trial coming up and everything."
"I'm coming with you, dad," Carl said firmly, and Rick looked at him for a long moment, before nodding, and they both ran out to the car.
They both got in and drove down the road as the others watched quickly and looked at each other worriedly.
"Is dada alright, grandpa Hershel?" James asked worried.
Hershel nodded as he hugged the younger boy. "He's alright, just looking out for his family," he assured him softly.
"Where do you think Heath and the group will be?" Carl asked as he gripped his gun while they followed the tracks.
"My best bet would be that they're at Lori's parents house, they were well off and didn't like me much, said I wasn't good enough." Rick said sighing.
"Would Heath hurt mom?"
"I don't know," Rick said sadly, his hands gripping the steering wheel as they drove. "I hope not, but Heath wasn't a very nice man. I imagine you know that by now."
Carl nodded sadly and they continued to drive when Rick spoke again with a sigh.
"Lori's parents disowned her after she married me, said she shamed the family and that she wasn't their daughter anymore." Rick said sighing.
"Did they want Shane to marry her?"
"They always preferred him over me," Rick nodded quietly, as he followed the tracks down a small, side road.
"But why?" Carl wondered. "You were Shane's boss, he was only a deputy. You were better than him."
"Shane had a better off life, I didn't. His family came from a line of wealthy senators; I was only a son of a ranch." Rick said sighing.
"Add to the fact that Lori didn't like Anna and hated her."
"But Shane was dating Anna, was he not?" Carl asked confused by the story.
"That's why Lori was even more desperate to get with Shane," Rick said with a faint smile. "They were made for each other, now I think about it."
"Did you and Anna ever you know...?" Carl asked remarking to the fact that had Rick slept with Anna before the world had ended.
"Once." Rick said sadly.
"And you didn't realize you loved her then?" Carl asked quietly.
Rick nodded. "I did. I always did. But she was with Shane, and I didn't want to hurt my friend. Plus, Lori was pregnant with you."
"Wish Anna was pregnant with me." Carl said then saw a look pass on Rick's face and he sighed sadly as he thought back.
"Anna was pregnant, she knew it wasn't Shane's but it was mine." He said pained.
Carl looked at his father shocked. "What happened?" he asked quietly, wondering if Rick wanted to talk about it.
"She talked to me about it and I told her that I would support her no matter what, Shane overheard though and when we went to drop off Randall at that high school, and he told me he had made her lose it. Shane punched her in the stomach and she miscarried seven months along." He said remembering Shane's revelation.
Shane and Rick were driving back with Randall in the boot after their little fight and Randall had revealed he knew Maggie. Shane cast a sideways glance looking at Rick. "You were always jealous of me, weren't you? Anna loved me. Lori loved me. You had to get some of what I had," he spat, referring to the night that Anna had slept with Rick.
Rick tried to keep calm, he knew that Shane was trying to make him lose his temper but by god he wouldn't give him the satisfaction of doing so, no way in hell.
"Least I know she isn't gonna spread her legs for every guy." Rick said coolly.
"I feel bad for you man, really I do." Shane said pityingly.
"Why is that, Shane?" Rick asked with a tired sigh.
"She's no different," Shane shrugged. "After all, she slept with you while she was with me, right? Had to get rid of that damn kid you knocked her up with."
Rick froze for a minute. "What?"
"I said I got rid of the baby that was yours." Shane said slowly as if Rick was retarded and with that Rick stopped the car.
"You killed mine and Anna's baby!" He snarled at Shane who simply shrugged at him as if he didn't care.
"You've got Carl."
"FUCK YOU!" Rick snarled as he hit Shane across the face again, leaving another mark added onto the ones he had gotten from their previous battle.
"She wasn't yours to have a baby with," Shane growled.
Rick felt outraged. "Yeah, and neither is Lori, but you went and knocked her the fuck up, didn't you?!"
"I loved her and she loves me, hell her parents and brother liked me more than they liked you." Shane said coldly and Rick saw red.
He punched him hard across the face and Shane stumbled back as they both got out of the car and started to fight on the road.
"I won't let you hurt Anna or Carl, you sick, twisted bastard." Rick growled at him and Shane laughed at him.
"Really? You couldn't protect her when I punched her across the face."
"I'll fucking kill you!" Rick snapped angrily, as he hit Shane again, blood tricking down his lip. They heard a bang and looked to see Randall was trying to escape the trunk. Rick growled and banged his fist on the car, before looking at Shane. "Get the fuck in the car," he growled. "This ain't over."
"I'm sorry dad, really." Carl said upset as he thought of how painful that must have been for his dad and Anna.
"I asked Anna why she didn't tell me what happened, why she didn't come to me about it. I knew Shane could be an ass but never that." Rick said sadly.
"Poor mom," Carl said sadly as they drove towards a house in the distance. "I could have had another little brother or sister."
Rick gave him a sad smile. "We have a wonderful family now, though."
Carl nodded and they pulled up at a very old house that had flowers over the pillars and he looked at Rick.
"This house reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
"Let's just hope Leatherface isn't inside," Rick said humourlessly as they walked around the back of the house.
"Let's check through the back windows, we'll go in that way," he suggested. "Stick close to me."
Carl nodded and they went to check the windows.
Heath had tied up Anna to wooden rail and had dressed her up in a white dress with black high heels, her hair had been washed and blow dried as well, she looked like Lori aside from the fact she had blonde hair.
"Wake up Sleeping Beauty."
Anna stirred and looked up at the man, glaring at him in disgust as she tried to break free. "Get the hell away from me you sick son of a bitch."
"Now that's not nice Anna." Heath said dangerously and he grabbed Anna by the face as he looked at her closely.
"What does Rick see in you?" He asked curious.
Anna looked at him with cold eyes. "I love him. And I love our family. I trust him and respect him, not like that sister of yours ever did," she said bitterly.
Heath back handed her across the face making her gasp as he glared at and he circled around her like a predator.
"He wasn't any good for Lori but Shane was until you came along and ruined everything for our family." He spat at her as he picked up a long knife.
"I think I'll start cutting you slowly but first I wanna see how Rick can fuck you."
Heath touched her waist, and Anna kneed him in the crotch, pushing him away. "Get your filthy hands off me," she hissed.
Rick and Carl were searching through the rooms when they heard a commotion and shouting from the sitting room.
"Hurry!" Rick said quickly to Carl.
Carl nodded and they both ran downstairs where they found Heath trying to rape Anna as she kicked him in the crotch and he staggered backwards.
"YOU FUCKING BITCH!" He snarled and rushed towards her with the knife in his hands as both Rick and Carl shot at him as he slammed it into Anna's stomach.
"Shit, ANNA!" Rick yelled running down the stairs towards her.
Rick quickly untied her as Carl ran over with a towel and wrapped it around her waist to stop the bleeding. Rick shot at Heath's head several times, making sure he was well and truly dead. "Carl, check the house for medical supplies," he said quickly, as he sat Anna down. "It's OK, Anna, we're here. We're going to fix this."
Anna gave him a weak smile as she held his hand and gasped in pain when she tried move as Carl came back with a first aid kit.
"I found it in the bathroom." Carl said as he took out the supplies.
"Alright, thanks son," Rick said as he opened the box and took out some of the rubbing alcohol. "This is going to hurt, Anna," he warned as she held his hand tightly, squeezing it and groaning out in pain, as Rick cleaned up the wound with the alcohol and a wipe. He took out some of the stitches, and started to stitch up her stomach, as she scrunched her eyes tightly shut, trying to forget the pain, as Carl stayed close by and comforted her. "Alright, Anna, almost done," he said softly, as he took a bandage and wrapped it around her stomach, and gave her a few painkillers out of the box.
"Thanks, both of you." She said kissing them and Carl sat next to them as they heard it start to rain outside and she smiled softly.
"I always loved thunder storms." She said fondly and Rick laughed as he remembered a fond memory.
"Like the time in the tree house?"
Anna chuckled. "Yeah, exactly," she said as she held his hand and he helped her to sit up.
"What happened?" Carl asked intrigued.
"You're dad, me and Shane spent the night in our tree house, I was eleven, Rick was twelve and so was Shane. It was raining heavily and Shane thought it would be funny if we stayed the night in the tree house, we stayed there and Shane ended up leaving and breaking the ladder." She said smiling fondly.
"So me and your mom got stuck until the morning," Rick laughed as he rubbed her sore stomach gently.
Carl smiled at that as he looked at the way they both interacted with each other.
His parents were so in love that much was easy to see. He smiled as Anna cuddled into him, and he helped her up, and to pack the medical supplies.
"Why did you want to be a doctor mom?" He asked as he helped her into the car and they started to get in when they saw storm clouds in the sky.
"Looks like we're spending the night here."
What about Judy, James and the triplets?" Carl asked worried, as they went back into the house and looked through the cupboards for some blankets.
"The others will keep them safe," Rick assured him, as they all cuddled up on the sofa together.
"How old do you think this house is?" Carl asked curious as he looked around the living room that belonged to his dead grandparents.
"It belonged to Lori's parents since the fifties." Rick said looking around the house as memories over took him.
"This was where the prom was." Anna said quietly.
"Yeah, and of course Lori was crowned as the prom queen," Rick frowned as he wrapped the blanket tighter around them all. "Should have been you," he said as he kissed Anna's forehead.
"I'm not bothered by it." She said holding him and Carl tightly as they heard it rain outside and smiled softly.
"What made you want to be a doctor?" Carl asked curious.
"I just wanted to help people," Anna said with a smile as she stroked his hair. "My father was a doctor too, and I loved seeing how he would come home from work happy when he saved a patient, or some little kid he had cured wrote him a thank you letter or something like that," she said fondly.
"You call me and the others barin, what does that mean?" He asked curious and Anna smiled gently at him.
"It means angel in welsh, my dad would call me and Alistair it." She said fondly.
Carl smiled up at her. "I love you mom. I love you too dad."
"We both love you, son," Rick smiled as he held the two of them tightly.
Anna smiled down at Carl as he fell asleep and stroked his hair gently as Rick held her tightly to him and ran his fingers through her blonde waves.
"I told him about Marcus."
