Somebody To Die For

Chapter 39

Rick, Morgan, Duane, James and Carl were in the police station sorting through files and making reports.

"Some of these people are dead." Lambert said sadly.

"We should shred the files then," Rick said as he gave the files to Carl and Duane to get rid of.

"Y'all know how to fire weapons, yeah?" Lambert asked.

Rick nodded. "Don't worry, they've all had plenty of practice."

Lambert nodded and they continued to sort through the files when he looked at Rick quickly and sighed.

"How did you find Anna?"

"She was at a farm where we happened to end up too, it belonged to Hershel, the vet," he said with a small smile.

"I'm glad you two found each other." Lambert said smiling as they watched it rain outside and heard the radio crackle.

"Dispatch we have a body."

"Let's go," Rick said as they got ready for their first job and headed outside to the car.

They drove to site where the body was found and got out, the smell was awful and Carl swallowed back bile as they headed to where the body was.

"So what have got?" Lambert asked Quinn quietly as they headed to where the body was.

"We're not quite sure," Quinn replied. "It's a male, looks to be late twenties, early thirties, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, body's probably been here three to four days."

"We got any ID on him to identify him?" Rick asked as he checked the body.

"Yeah he was wearing a ring with the initial CR on it." Quinn said as everyone searched the perimeter.

"He put up a hell of a fight." Morgan said looking.

They waited until the coroner was finished checking over the body before moving him. "You think it's one of the Ronson's?" Lambert asked.

"It could be there are a lot of them." Rick said as they got into the car and drove back to the police station.

"You think mom's alright?" Carl asked along with James.

Rick nodded. "She has all the others at the hospital working with her," he said softly.

Anna smiled as she checked the medical health of everyone in Kings County, creating new medical records for them all. She had all her equipment back, and Maggie and Patricia were assisting her, while Bailey and Beth worked on the children's ward.

"Alright Mr Grey you're healthy as a horse." She said smiling at the middle aged man who smiled at her as he left and headed to where his son was.

"Anna I need you're help other here!" Jenny called out.

Anna nodded. "I'll be right there," she said as she put her new files away and headed over to where Jenny was with a patient.

"What have we got here?" She asked s she checked the patient who was sweating heavily and groaning in pain.

"Patient has a gunshot wound to the side and some stab wounds." Jenny said as they helped him into a room.

"Alright, we're going to need to clean up those wounds and get him stitched up, can you get my kit ready?" She asked as she prepared some painkillers for the man and helped him down onto the bed. "Can you tell me your name, sir?"

"Patrick Carter." The man groaned in pain and Anna nodded as she hooked him up to a drip and he fell asleep with in minutes.

"He looks like he's been in a fight." She said to Jenny who nodded as Bailey came out with Aoife and Beth smiling.

"How are you?"

"We're good thanks, how are you?" Anna smiled, looking at Aoife who was wearing her scrubs happily.

"We're doing well," she said as she looked at the bed and frowned at the somewhat familiar face. "Who's this?"

"Patrick Carter," Anna answered, and Bailey paled.

Dave's brother.

"Bailey are you alright?" Anna asked seeing her turn pale and she calmed down slightly when Patrick spoke.

"I'm glad Dave's dead, I'm sorry I let him hurt you like that." Patrick said feeling guilty about how he had allowed Dave to hurt Bailey.

"It wasn't your fault, it was his," Bailey said softly, as she helped Anna clean him up. "Are you alright? What happened to you?"

"A family attacked me and my friend on the road, we got separated and I ended up here and collapsed." Patrick said as they stitched him up.

"What happened to your friend?" Anna asked him as she fixed up the stab wounds on his stomach.

"I don't know but his name was Casper Ronson, he was trying to get away from his crazy family." Patrick explained as Rick and Lambert came in.

"We know where he is," Rick said quietly, as he watched Bailey and Anna finish work on him. "He's dead. We found the body."

"Fuck," Patrick said quietly before looking at Bailey. "Can I stay with you? You're the only thing close to family I have left."

"Of course you can, you're like another brother to me." She said smiling as Daryl came in with the kids.

"Who's he?" He asked Bailey as he looked at Patrick.

"Dave's younger brother." She explained.

Daryl growled and pulled out his knife. "Why ain't he dead yet?" he snapped.

Bailey pulled his arm back. "No, Daryl, he's alright. He's going to be staying with us."

Daryl stilled and looked at Patrick carefully before looking at Bailey more tenderly as he spoke to her quietly.

"Did he look after ya when Dave hurt ya?"

"He tried to stop Dave," Bailey assured him as she kissed his neck gently. "Relax, Daryl, he's a good guy," she said softly, before looking at Dean and Rayland. "Did you two have a good day at work with daddy?"

"We did mama, we fixed up an Impala truck and fixed some RV's." Dean said happily, his face was smeared in oil and grease.

"I had fun working with dad." Carl told Anna who grinned as did Judith with everyone packing up for the day.

"Let's all go and rest after our first day of work," Rick said with a smile, as they got all their stuff together, and Patrick followed Daryl and Bailey home.

"Ya can have the guest room, it's got a bathroom." Daryl told him and Patrick nodded before he spoke.

"She told me about you, how she wished she had married you."

Daryl looked at him carefully. "Yeah, well, we finally got married," he said quietly. "After that bastard was dead and gone. Ya better not cause trouble or ya can join him."

"I won't she's family to me and I want to see her happy, aint like I got long to live anyway." Patrick said taking some tablets.

"Why?" Daryl asked curious.

"I've got liver cancer."

"Shit," Daryl said quietly. "Sorry 'bout that."

Patrick shook his head. "I've come to terms with it. S'my own fault anyway, doc thinks that alcohol misuse caused it."

"Does Bailey know?" Daryl asked quietly.

"No I haven't told her yet and I don't wanna upset her." Patrick said drinking some water and he paused when he looked at Daryl.

"Did you kill him?"

Daryl nodded without showing any emotion. "Yeah, I did, I burned him alive," he said flatly. "He deserved it after what he did to her. You knew about Celia?"

"I do. I was the one who found her on the floor; she was barely hanging on and kept on telling me about her baby, I'm sorry I didn't keep her safe." Patrick said pained.

"Weren't yer fault," Daryl said as he nodded in understanding, as Lara, Charlotte and Peggy came running in. "Wanna meet our girls?"

"I'd love too." Patrick said smiling as they went to meet the kids and saw Bailey cooking dinner with Dean and Rayland setting the table.

"These are our sons Dean Rick Merle Dixon and Rayland William Hershel Dixon, our four daughters Aoife Marie Dixon, Charlotte Essie Celia Dixon, Lara Maggie Andrea Patricia Dixon and Peggy Beth Carol Anna Dixon." Daryl said smiling happily.

"You've got some wonderful children here," Patrick said smiling as all the kids said hello, and sat down well behaved at the table after getting cleaned up for dinner.

"Who's that, mama?" Peggy asked shyly.

"That's your Uncle Patrick," Bailey said softly.

"Hello Uncle Patrick, it's nice to meet you." Charlotte said happily and smiled as she ate some food and Patrick smiled warmly.

"It's nice to meet all of you." He said smiling as they ate dinner.

"How was your first day of work, sweetheart?" Daryl asked Bailey softly as he ate, giving some of his dinner to the children.

"It was strange but really good, thank you how your day was, baby?" Bailey asked smiling warmly as they ate dinner.

"Not bad," Daryl smiled as he looked at Dean and Rayland. "I had some pretty good help," he said softly, as he wiped at the oil on his face. "Though I swear I'm gonna have to shower every night with the filth I got on me."

"Well how about we shower after dinner then, hmm?" Bailey suggested as she kissed him lovingly on the lips as the others watched smiling.

"I'd love that." He said holding her close.

"So, Uncle Patrick, what did you do?" Dean asked curious.

"I owned my own bar and worked there until the dead rose." Patrick said smiling softly at them all.

"That's cool," Aoife said with a smile.

Bailey smiled at the children. "Why don't you all go and brush your teeth and put your pyjamas on?"

"Alright mama." Dean said as they headed upstairs to get changed and Patrick smiled sadly at Bailey.

"You know about me having cancer then?" He asked softly and she nodded.

"It showed in the tests." She said upset.

"Why didn't you tell me, Patrick?" she asked with a sad smile as she cleaned up the dishes.

"Didn't want to make things any more depressing than they already are," he said with a sad laugh.

"It showed in the tests." She said upset.

"How long do you have?" Bailey asked softly and Patrick sighed heavily.

"Three months."

"We'll try and make you as comfortable as we can here," she said as she hugged him. "I'm sorry there's not much else we can do."

Patrick shook his head. "Don't worry, it's my own fault."

Bailey hugged him tightly and he hugged her back as the three of them sat in a peaceful silence.

"So how did you two meet?"

"We met years ago when we were teenagers," Bailey said with a soft smile as she took Daryl's hand.

"And then we found each other again at the farm when the world ended," Daryl added.

"I'm glad you two have each other." Patrick said smiling at them both warmly as the kids came down.

They all came in and cuddled into their parents in their pyjamas, looking clean and ready for bed.

"What age are they all?" Patrick asked warmly.

"Aoife and Dean are six years old, Rayland is four years old and Charlotte, Peggy and Lara are one years old." Daryl said smiling at his children.

"You got some good kids there," Patrick said as the kids all smiled at him happily.

Bailey nodded. "Thank you. Why don't we get all you little ones into bed then, eh? We have another busy day tomorrow."

They all nodded and soon everyone was heading off to bed with Daryl going into the bathroom to shower.

"Need help?" Bailey asked softly.

Daryl smiled at her as he took off his shirt. "If you're offering," he said softly, as he turned on the hot water.

"I am." She said as she pulled off her scrubs and then her vest as Daryl watched.

He growled slightly as he watched her take off her bra and panties. "Get in here woman," he said with a smirk, as she stepped under the water and he wrapped his arms around her.

"So fuckin' gorgeous and yer all mine," he whispered, and she pushed herself back into him, desperate with need. Bailey grinded her ass against him making him instantly hard as he turned her and placed her against the wall, his hand going around to massage her breasts gently. "Mmm, we're gon' have to shower like this every night."

Bailey chuckled at that, and with one hard thrust, Daryl was inside her, and wasted no time, before he went straight into a harsh rhythm. She was moaning within seconds as Daryl pounded himself into her, gripping onto her waist tightly. She placed her hands onto the shower wall to brace herself and tilted her head back to Daryl's shoulder to watch his face, his features twisted in pleasure, as his hair stuck to his sweaty forehead. Her moans continued to get louder as she got closer to the edge.

Daryl reached around with one hand and found her clit, rubbing furiously, as his hips slammed forward into her. He felt Bailey tense up, before she let out a cry as her mind blowing orgasm hit her, she had never felt anything more powerful before. "DARYL... YES!" she yelled out, glad they were in the bathroom where no one could hear them, as her muscles contracted violently around him. He leaned forwards, holding onto her tightly, and bit down roughly into her neck as he too came, spilling himself inside her, before they both collapsed to the floor.

"Damn I love ya woman." He said kissing her lovingly on the mouth.

"Love you too," she said softly as they sat under the shower water. "So much," she added as she washed the oil from his face and hair.

He leaned into her touch as she washed his face gently and stroked his hair lovingly as she finished washing his hair.

"Let's get dried and into bed, baby," she said softly as they finished cleaning up and wrapped themselves in a towel.

They went into their room to get dry and pulled on their night clothes as they curled up together under the sheets.

"I love you." She said kissing him.

"Love ya too, angel," he said as he pulled her against his chest, and they both curled up together and fell asleep.

The next morning Daryl headed to the garage with Dean and Rayland while Bailey took Aoife to the hospital.

They started working on a Harley motorcycle.

"Can we have a motorbike when we're older, pa?" Dean asked, as Daryl showed him the different parts.

"Ya can but talk to yer mama first." Daryl said smirking as they mended the truck and Lupo was being walked by Penny and Sophia.

"Hi." They called out happily.

"Hey girls," Daryl said softly, as he seen Carol walking in the distance. "Ya all OK?"

"We're fine don't worry, me and Penny are helping mom look after the younger kids." Sophia said smiling.

Daryl nodded. "That's good to hear," he said softly as he seen the triplets holding Rowan's hand and gave them a wave.

"How long did you work in a garage for?" Rayland asked his father.

"Five years and I did some construction work." Daryl said fondly as they saw Charlie barking at the empty playground and Penny followed him along with Sophia.

"What is it boy?" They asked and followed after him when they saw a hand sticking out from a fence and looked further when they saw a young woman sitting on a swing limply, her eyes were gone and socket less.

Sophia let out a scream as Daryl and Merle came running from the garage over to where Sophia was. "What the- oh shit," Merle said as they seen the woman. "We better get Rick," he said quickly.

Daryl nodded and ran to get Rick as Merle took Sophia and Penny away as Carol hurried over with Axel.

"Oh my god!"

"Don't look," Axel said to Carol quickly as they both turned away from the horrific sight, as they seen Rick and Lambert running over in the distance.

"Oh hell." Rick said as he saw the woman's dead body and they all stared in shock at the horrific sight.

"Alright let's take statements and keep this park secure." He said trying to stay calm.

"We didn't see anything," Sophia said quickly. "We only found the body the way it is right now."

"You're sure?" Lambert asked as he wrote it down.

Sophia nodded. "We're sure. There was no one around or anything like that. We heard Charlie barking and we followed him here."

"We got any ID on her?" Rick asked the Doctor who was examining the body and taking notes as well.

"No but she is wearing a necklace with the initials, LR." The woman said as she looked at the body.

"Another Ronson?" Rick asked as he checked the body for any other signs of identity. "Someone must have a vendetta against them."

"There's signs of sexual assault, I'll have Dr Grimes help me with the examination." Heather said as she got up and a man helped her take the body to the morgue.

"Man that is fucked up." Daryl said disgusted.

"I thought the Ronson's had a lot of power over this town," Axel said confused as they went back to work.

"Yeah, but obviously someone didn't like it," Merle mumbled as he headed back to the garage.

"Maybe someone was fed up with them bossing everyone around." Carl said when Rick and Lambert came back.

"That's true, not everyone liked them." Rick said eating some lunch.

Anna looked down looking horrified at the body. "I can't believe someone has carved her eyes out as well." she said disgusted.

Heather nodded in agreement as they started to examine the body and soon learned her name was Michelle Evangeline Ronson, she was twenty seven years old with no children or a husband.

"What do you think the cause of death was?" Heather asked. "Apart from the obvious," she said, gesturing to her eyes.

"The cause of death was blood loss from the multiple stab wounds to her stomach and back." Anna said as she looked at the young woman's body, she had been very beautiful.

"There is a gunshot wound to the head as well, I'm guessing to stop her from turning." Heather said looking.

"Alright, well, we'll have Rick and Lambert search the area for clues," Heather said softly. "Hopefully we find who's doing this."

Anna nodded and they left room and she went to see how the others were doing when she saw Aoife and Bailey talking to a young woman and three children.

"Hey guys," she said softly and walked over and sat down next to them. "Everything OK?"

"Everything's fine, Anna." Bailey said warmly as she gave some iron tablets to the young woman said good bye as everyone got ready to leave with Anna picking up Judith.

"Did you have a good day?" She asked cuddling her as they all got ready to leave.

"I did mommy, we had fun. We made paintings and Carol taught us how to read a little," Judith said happily as they went back to the house.

"I'm glad sweetheart, really." She said hugging her tightly as they started to cook dinner and Judith set the table with Lance following them around.

"Mommy are we safe here?" She asked softly as Becky played with Matthew and Tom, James was with Rick and Carl.

Anna nodded. "We are, sweetheart, don't worry," she said softly. "There's plenty of people around and your daddy is keeping the town safe."

Judith nodded and helped her with dinner.

Dinner had been cooked just as they heard the door open and saw Rick, Carl and James walk into the kitchen with Rick looking tired and worried.

"We think it might be someone the Ronsons know or might have pissed off." He told her as he hugged her and the kids.

"You think there would be many of them left to kill then?" Anna asked worriedly as they all sat down and she handed them plates of dinner.

Rick nodded. "A few, but we'd rather stop him or her first."

Anna nodded and they ate in silence as they watched their children talk to each other, she was lucky to have them all, she realised with a soft smile.

"Mom there's a package for you!"

Anna nodded and stood up, going to take the package from Matthew before sitting down at the table and opening it. "I wonder what it is?"

She opened it to find a jar with filled with eyes.

Anna squealed as she shoved the jar away from her and the kids looked in shock horror. Rick immediately picked up the jar away from them.

"What the hell?" Anna asked disgusted. "Who would send me that?"

"I'm guessing the Ronsons." Rick said disgusted as he looked at the jar with the eyeballs staring at him.

"That's disgusting." Carl said trying not to be sick.

"Why would they send them to us?" Anna asked as she sat down and tried to get the image out of her head. "We're not the ones killing them."

"But maybe they think we are," Rick replied. "Since we don't like them. That means we need to find the real killer fast."

"Ok so Chelle and her husband Lucian are in prison while their eldest son Heath is dead, so who's left?" Amelia asked as the others came round to help.

"Maybe one of their cousins." Will suggested.

"Most of them were killed were they not?" Glenn asked. "Maybe it's someone who's not in the family?" he suggested.

"Maybe its one of their friends or distant relatives?" Daryl asked as he looked through photos and frowned when he saw one of Rick and Anna before the world had ended, she had a slight bump on her stomach.

Daryl stared at it for a second before showing to Bailey. Bailey looked and remembered how Anna had told her about losing her baby when they met, after Bailey had told her about Celia. "We'll talk later," she whispered quietly.

He nodded and put the album back down when he saw how happy Rick and Anna were with each other, they were like soul mates.

"Why don't we all go and get some rest?" Rick suggested as he wrapped his arms around Anna. "I think we could do with it after today."

They all nodded and left the house as Daryl and Bailey walked back to the house with the kids in front when he spoke.

"So wanna tell me?"

"Before the world ended, Anna and Rick had a one night thing, after she found out Shane was cheating with Lori," she explained quietly. "Anna ended up pregnant, and Shane knew it wasn't his. Rick said he would help her raise the kid, but Shane punched her in the stomach and she lost it."

"Christ, Shane killed Rick and Anna's baby?" He asked horrified and Bailey nodded, he felt disgusted at Shane.

"That's sick." He said as they reached the house.

Bailey nodded. "I know," she said softly as they went inside. "But keep it quiet, yeah? I don't think anyone else knows."

Daryl nodded and then froze when he saw Patrick as a walker as he stared at them from where he was pinned to a fence his mutilated face destroyed.

Bailey choked out a sob and covered her mouth, as Daryl pushed her towards the door. "Get inside," he said quickly as he went over to Patrick.

He walked over to him and stared at Patrick's mutilated face, he would make sure Patrick's death was avenged.

"Sorry brother." He said quietly before shooting him.

Daryl walked into the house where he found Bailey comforting the children. "Who murdered Uncle Patrick?" Aoife sobbed.

"I don't know, sweetheart," Bailey said as she rocked her gently.

"I wanna help Uncle Rick find the bastards who killed him pa." Dean told him as they all sat in the living room and grieved for their friend.

"He was a good man." Bailey said upset.

"That he was." Daryl said holding her tightly.

Bailey gave him a soft smile as she held the children, before they heard knocking at the door, and Rick and Merle rushed in.

"We heard a gunshot. Is everything OK? Someone hurt?"

"Patrick's dead, we found him pinned to the fence as a walker." Daryl explained as he showed them what was left of Patrick's body.

"Fuck." Merle said stunned.

"Can ya get rid of the body?" Daryl asked quietly as he saw Aoife looking out the window with tears running down her cheeks. "Don't want the kids to see him in the mornin'."

Rick and Merle nodded as they took Patrick's body gently off the fence, they took him away as Daryl went back inside the house.

"Is Uncle Patrick in heaven?"

Daryl sat down on the sofa and pulled the kids up on his lap. "He sure is, sweetheart," he said softly as he held all the kids tightly. "Uncle Patrick was going to heaven soon anyway, God just took him early."

"I'll miss him daddy and mama." Peggy sniffled.

"We'll miss him too, baby," Bailey said softly as she kissed her head gently and stroked her soft curls. "We all will," she said as she picked up Peggy and Charlotte and Daryl took Lara. "Let's get you three some rest."

All of the kids nodded and followed after them as they all got into bed and curled up to each other.

"Night pa and mama." Rayland said softly.

"Night Rayland," Bailey said softly. "Dean, Aoife, Lara, Charlotte, Peggy," she said as she kissed each of them's foreheads.

Daryl kissed their foreheads as well as they all headed into their bedrooms to sleep and grieve for their friend.

Anna had been tossing and turning in her sleep, she kept on having the same nightmare about her unborn baby.

Anna smiled as she rubbed her stomach, feeling her baby kick at her hand from the bump on her stomach. "Hey, little one."

The baby kicked happily at her as she heard the front door slam open and came face to face with Shane storming into the living room.

"YOU LYING BITCH!"

"Shane, calm down," Anna said quickly as she wrapped her hands around her stomach. "Please... It's not what you think."

"So you ain't pregnant with RICK's kid?" he snapped.

"I am but it was an accident I was upset and Rick was upset as well what with Lori ditching him because her parents said so, I swear Shane I didn't mean for this happen." She said trying to calm him down.

"When did it happen?" He asked calmly.

"After I found out about you and Lori," she answered flatly. "Yeah... you think I wouldn't find out or something?" She asked, deciding he was as much to blame as she was.

Shane stilled at the fact that Anna knew about him and Lori, the fact that they had been sleeping together.

"Does Rick know?" He asked quietly as he looked at her quickly.

Anna nodded. "I talked to him about it. He's willing to help out with the baby," she said firmly as she stood up from her chair. "And I'm going to let him."

Something in Shane snapped then as he looked at her then and started to punch her hard across the stomach.

Anna cried out in pain and doubled over in pain.

"STOP SHANE! PLEASE STOP!" she begged as she felt something warm and wet and looked down to see that she was bleeding. "NOT MY BABY!"

Shane ignored her and continued to punch her as she passed out.

Anna woke up with a start and realized she was in her bedroom with Rick. She took a deep breath and got up to go into the bathroom, splashing some cold water onto her face.

She breathed in and out for a few moments as she saw herself in the mirror and sighed heavily as she saw that she looked older than she did.

She sat on the chair and sobbed.

"Pull yourself together, Anna," she muttered as she took a deep breath. She had Rick now, and a wonderful family who loved her. She couldn't take them for granted.

She breathed for a minute and headed back into the bedroom where she soon fell asleep.

She held Rick tightly and reminded herself that Shane was gone, and all the trouble he had caused her. She had a proper family now.

The next morning Anna was at the hospital with Patricia as they watched the kids play happily, it was their lunch break and everyone was enjoying themselves when an alarm sounded.

"WALKERS, WALKERS!"

"Shit," Anna cursed as she ran to try and find her children with all the others running around. She seen Becky and Judith playing in the distance and ran towards them, picking them both up, before she felt something sharp on her arm, and then a dull pain.

She looked down to see long scratches on her right arm, she paled as she heard the soldiers run in and kill the walkers as her world tumbled down.

"Mommy?" Judith asked hugging her tightly.

"It's OK, sweetie," she said quickly as she hugged her and Becky. "You go on with the soldiers, mommy will be alright."

"Anna what's going on?" Bailey asked as she held Aoife in her arms with Beth beside her as they looked at her concerned.

"I've been scratched, I'm going to turn." Anna said feeling her eyes burn with tears as Bailey and Beth paled.

Beth frowned and looked at her. "But Anna, you had the injection. You should be cured," she said confused as she got something to clean the wound.

Anna tried to keep calm as she watched Bailey wrap her arm in a bandage and smiled slightly when she saw no harm was done.

"Thanks."

"We'll keep an eye on you," Bailey said as she finished wrapping Anna up. "If you start to feel unwell or anything, let us know, alright?"

Anna nodded as everyone continued to work and she made sure everything was in place when she saw Rick come in looking relived.

"We found out who was killing the Ronson family."

"Who was it?" Anna asked, as Rick looked confused at her bandaged arm. "Don't worry about it. Who was it then? A family member? Friend or something?"

"One of the family members went crazy after Chelle killed her daughter and started killing them off, her name was Pearl, and she lost her whole family when Chelle abandoned them to a gang." Rick said holding her close as everyone smiled.

"As long as it's over," Anna said as she cuddled into him, with the kids smiling happily as they stood beside their feet. "Maybe now we can live in peace."

Rick nodded and grinned. "I certainly hope so."

Bailey smiled up at Daryl and curled into him as they watched their children play together and simply held hands.
