Somebody To Die For
Chapter 40
Three years had passed since they moved into their new homes in Kings County, and everyone had settled into their homes and their jobs.
Rick was still a sheriff with Morgan as his deputy; Carl, Duane and James were going to take over when they were old enough.
Daryl and Bailey were the proud parents of their children who had become brave, loyal members of the town, there was no point denying that Dean and Judith were made for each other, Rayland and Becky spent a lot of time together, and Carl and Sophia were proud parents.
Maggie and Beth's twins had all grown up into fine young men and women and helped out their parents, and Andrea had given birth to a son named Calvin Blake. Everyone still worked in the jobs they had been assigned to, and the town had continued to grow, with new survivors coming in every month or so.
Anna had given birth to her and Rick's final two children, Caleb Declan Grimes and Eve Carol Grimes, Eve had nearly killed her during the birth.
Rick could still remember it.
Anna was coming home from working at the hospital when she felt a twinge in her stomach and looked down at her bump. She rushed home and only managed to get in the door as she felt her waters break.
"Oh god not yet." She panicked as Rick hurried in with the kids as he helped her upstairs to bed as she gasped in pain.
"Alright Anna, alright." He said holding her hand.
"No, Rick, not alright," she panicked as he helped her out of her jeans. "Baby's not meant to come out yet," she groaned.
"We're going to have to deliver this baby now," he told her. "I need to do it alone."
She nodded as she suddenly screamed in pain and Judith saw blood staining the sheets as her dad pulled out his knife.
"Dad what are you going to do?" She asked scared as she heard knocking on the door and Becky ran to get it and it was the rest of the group.
"We need to do a c-section," Rick told Hershel quickly as he sterilized his knife, and Hershel nodded, making sure he had the equipment to stitch Anna up again.
"Alright, give me the knife," Hershel told him. "This is going to hurt, Anna," he said as he cut her stomach and she passed out from pain. Hershel made the incision and reached into her stomach, gently easing out the baby. "It's a girl!"
Rick felt tears come to his eyes as his daughter came screaming into the world, she had tufts of his dark brown hair and Hershel pulled out the second baby as more blood stained the sheets.
"Bailey, Patricia I need your help!" He yelled as he placed the baby girl in Rick's arms and gently shoved him out of the room.
Carol helped get them cleaned up, as Hershel looked at them. "We're going to have to do a hysterectomy," he said sadly. Rick nodded at him before leaving, he couldn't be upset, and they had eight beautiful children. Hershel performed the hysterectomy successfully and they left Anna to rest.
Anna hadn't cried about it, they had Carl, Judith, James, Tom, Matthew, Becky, Caleb and Eve and they couldn't be happier.
Carol was smiling from ear to ear as she and Axel held their first grandchild; Adam Rick Daryl Axel Grimes had come into the world two months ago.
Sophia fussed over their son, while Carl watched smiling proudly from the corner of the room, his wedding band on his finger. As soon as they found out Sophia was pregnant, he had insisted on marrying her, and everyone else had been over the moon for them.
Anna smiled as she curled into Rick and they watched their grandson. "I'm so happy," she said softly.
"I am too, I'm glad I found you Anna." He said smiling at her, his face wasn't stressed anymore and he looked calmer, he was getting older though.
Bailey smiled at Daryl as they watched Dean and Judith dance while James talked to Aoife while the other kids chatted.
"Looks like our family finally found peace," Rick said softly as he stroked Anna's cheek. "Took a while, but I wouldn't have changed anything for the world. Otherwise things might not have turned out the way they did."
Anna nodded. "Everything worked out alright in the end."
Daryl smiled at Bailey as they interlinked hands and smiled as they saw Will and Patricia talk happily as they held their four month old triplets Sam Merle Dylan Dixon, Cain Daryl Hershel Dixon and Debbie Beth Bailey Maggie Carol Dixon.
"They look happy." Daryl said softly.
Bailey nodded. "They sure do," she said with a small smile as she watched everyone happy around her. "Everyone does for a change."
"Are ya happy Bailey?" He asked softly and she smiled at him happily.
"Of course I am," she said softly as she cuddled into him and watched their children play. "You made me happy."
"I have somebody to do die for." He said smiling and she smiled back as they all held hands and watched their family.
Rick and Anna smiled as they went to bed, when everyone else was asleep for the night.
"I love you so much, Anna," Rick said softly as he held her close.
"I love you too, so much." She said kissing him gently and they held each other tightly as they both fell asleep.
Anna awoke the next morning and shook Rick gently when she seen he was still asleep.
"Rick? Rick, wake up. We need to go to work," she said softly.
Rick didn't wake up, she shook him again and again before she finally realised with heartbreak that rick had died in his sleep.
"Please help me, please!" She screamed as she started to press on his chest but nothing happened and she started to cry.
Rick was gone, her best friend, her rock, the father of her children, grandfather and her lover, he was gone.
Becky and Tom came running in and looked at the two of them worriedly. "Mom? Dad? What's wrong?"
"Your dad's gone," Anna choked out as she felt tears running down her face. "He's gone to Heaven."
"No, daddy no." Becky wailed as Carl ran in along with the others as everyone hurried into the room.
"Dad's gone?" Carl asked choked.
"I'm afraid so," Anna said as she wiped at her eyes and kissed Rick's forehead, placing her hand over his heart. "It was his time to go. But he went happy."
Carl and the others nodded sadly as they went to say good bye to Rick and kissed his cheek with the others hurrying in.
"What's going on?"
"Rick's gone," Anna said softly, as she pulled a blanket up around his body.
That afternoon they had a funeral service for Rick and everyone mourned the loss of their friend.
Carl took a minute out to go and sit with Anna. "He wouldn't want us to be sad, mom. You still have all of us, and he'd want us to be happy."
"I know he would Carl, I love all of you so much." She said hugging him tightly and he hugged her back as they stared at Rick's grave; it had a beautiful tomb stone over it.
Here lies Rick Anthony Grimes
Born 1989 - Died 2017
Loving husband, loving father, loving grandfather and loving friend.
The world has heroes.
Carl took Anna's hand and squeezed it tightly, as they both touched the grave gently. "Goodnight, Rick," Anna sniffled as she hugged the grave. "Sweet dreams."
Two years later the group had lost some of its original members, Axel had died after the birth of his and Carol's granddaughters Sarah Carol Anna Maggie Grimes and Polly Beth Bailey Patricia Grimes, Carol had died a few months later with Sophia and the group with her. Hershel had passed away in his sleep.
"I miss everyone," Judith said softly as they all sat down in the house she shared with Dean. "I wish we could go back in time when we were all still around."
"I know it feels strange and sad." Penny said as she held Louis's hand tightly as their daughter Mary played with Peggy and Tom's son Luke.
"How are you mama and pa?" Dean asked Daryl and Bailey.
"We're alright, son," Daryl said with a smile as he sat down next to his eldest boy. "Just glad that our family is happy, little man." Dean smiled at his father, he was far from little, but Daryl had always called him the same.
Dean smiled tearfully at them, he knew that his parents were getting old, Daryl had grey in his hair and Bailey had some silver in her hair but still looked beautiful.
Uncle Merle was in a wheelchair after having a terrible accident that had resulted in him being seriously injured but he didn't let it get him down, Beth sat by him with their children and grandchildren.
They both smiled at him, as they heard Judith and Carl get up and run over to Anna, as everyone else followed by. Anna was clutching her heart and smiling tearfully at the kids. "It's alright, kids, I'm going to see your father," she said softly. "Y'all be strong for me, and don't be sad, alright?" she asked, and the kids watched heartbroken as Anna slipped away before their eyes.
"MOM NO NOT YOU TOO!" Becky sobbed as Damien pulled her into him and she cried as she held her mother's hand tightly.
Annette sobbed as she and Jake held each other tightly, Jake was Martinez and Rowan's son as they watched Anna pass away.
Anna was standing in a beautiful front garden when she saw Rick a few feet away and shakily walked towards him, her heart in her throat.
"Rick?" she asked quietly, as she reached out to try and touch his face to see if he was real.
Rick nodded. "It's me, Anna," he said softly as he pulled her into his arms. "I'm here. So is Carol, Axel, Hershel and everyone else. You're home now."
She smiled happily as she rested her forehead against his and simply held him tightly as everyone watched smiling happily at the two lovers reuniting.
The next couple to pass away were Will and Patricia
"We're all going, aren't we?" Bailey laughed sadly as she looked at the graves of the people they loved out in the back garden.
"We are but we'll see them again." Daryl said holding her tightly as they watched their grandchildren play in the back garden.
"I love you Daryl so much." She said kissing him lovingly.
"I love ya too, Bailey," he said as he swallowed a lump in his throat. He knew himself that he didn't have long left. "Always."
Bailey gave him a sad smile. "We go together," she said softly. "I'm not going anywhere without you."
He nodded. "Wouldn't have it any other way." He said thickly as they saw their kids running over to them quickly.
"You're letting go aren't ya?"
"Mommy and daddy are tired now," Bailey said softly as she crouched down and kissed their children's foreheads. "But you all have each other and your own families now. We'll be watching over you until we see you again, we promise."
"We love ya mama and pa." Dean said hugging them tightly as Aoife ran into them and hugged them tightly, sobbing.
"You two saved me." She sobbed as Lara comforted her.
"Was the best thing we ever did, sweetheart," Bailey said as she hugged her. "You look out for your brothers and sisters, alright? I love you all."
Daryl smiled at his kids and looked at his gun. If he was going to go, he wanted to do it with Bailey by his side, and no other way. He hugged them all tightly before taking Bailey's hand. "Let's go to the lake house, sweetheart."
Several months later, and the new generation of the family were all that was left, as they sat in the sitting room of one of their houses and looked through photo albums.
"I miss them all so much." James said sadly as he looked at a photo of his parents out on the porch smiling happily.
"I do too I miss dad and mom, Aunt Beth, Hershel, Uncle Merle and Aunt Maggie and Uncle Glenn." Lara sniffled.
"They're in heaven and watching over us." Calvin said as he sat beside Eve with Penny next to Peter.
Carl nodded as he held Sophia and their children. "They sure are. This family is going to live on forever. No matter what happens."
"We all have somebody to die for." Dean said as he held Judith and their children.
The End.
