Kate and the boys had made it back to the 12th and were working on everything that had occurred today. First, the guy in the car was indeed a driver and had a rap sheet for minor offenses. He had managed to not do anything overly stupid so he had managed to stay out of prison.
This idiot inside the building had never made it out of the house. The lady that had come out of the building had been arrested for the illegal discharge of a firearm. CSU was presently searching her house.
Shawn turned out to be Shawn Murphy. His father was dead and they were looking for his mother Lisa Murphy. However she had not shown up for work today so there were units headed over to her house. In the meantime Shawn was under age so they had to call in someone to take him.
The two idiots who were holding him had lawyered up the first chance they got so they were sitting in holding.
The little girl was one of the neighbors and her parents were downstairs with her trying to make a positive ID and make arrangements for her. It appeared that when the car took off she got caught on the side of the car somehow and fell down. Then the left rear tire had run over her head, crushing her skull. Her death had been practically instantaneous. It was the one consolation that Kate took from it.
Kate pulled out her cell phone and scrolled down the list, then pressed send. "Hi Castle, is Alexis there? …. Can you put her on the phone? ….. Hi sweetie. …. Yes I'm still at work. … No I'll be home in time for dinner, …. Oh, how is uncle Roy feeling? ….. Are you helping your father? …. I miss you too. …. Bye sweetie I love you."
Kate could feel herself starting to panic that something would happen to Alexis or Castle and what that would do to her. However she also remembered what Martha had told her, and her own mother had told her to never lose them. She had a family and it was pushing away her fears. Lanie was right, she was in love.
Rick looked in on Roy just before going downstairs to start dinner. "Well you're looking better, how do you feel?" Rick sees him sitting up with the TV on.
"Much better, I assume I need you to get home tonight?" Roy asks.
"Yea, I'll take you to your car and then follow you home. I hope you know how to cook or you're going to starve." Rick teases him.
"I'll manage though I'll probably have to increase my take-out." Roy starts chuckling.
"You'll do fine. Dinner is in a little over an hour. Kate should be home soon unless they got a big one." Rick tells him. "Maybe you can convince her to give you a tour before you leave." Rick tells him and heads downstairs to start dinner.
Kate is home and enters the kitchen. "Smells good Castle." As she steps up and gives him a quick kiss.

"I'm also making the same salad as last time to go with it and a normal salad for those of you who are boring." Rick tells her.
"You're learning Castle, you're learning. How's Captain Montgomery?" Kate still can't call him Roy.
"He's up in the spare bedroom. Alexis is probably watching him. I think he's interested in a tour. And dinner will be ready in about a half hour." Castle tells her.
"Then Alexis and I will just have to give him one." And Kate heads upstairs.
They were sitting at dinner. "Your house is amazing you two. Evelyn would love it, and I'm never going to hear the end of it when the girls see you have a pool." Roy is forced to tell them.
"I'm glad you like it. I think Castle and I got lucky when we found it. It's just isolated enough to give us some peace and yet close enough to the freeway to get into work with only a little longer drive. Might be more of a challenge when winter comes." Kate comments smiling.
"If I know Rick, I'll bet he's already got plans to handle most of that." Roy tells her.
Kate grins. It seems Roy did know him pretty well. "He has plans for an emergency generator along with 3 different SUV's he wants to look at. And he has already filled our pantry to over flowing. Along with 3 propane tanks for the grill." Kate tells him still smiling.
"You just be careful Beckett. He'll have a doomsday bunker out there if you're not careful." Roy warns her. And Castle does open his mouth to comment.
"Don't even think it Castle!" Kate tells him in a low tone while glaring at him. And Castle closes his mouth.
All this gets a chuckle out of Roy. The change in Beckett was monumental. The transformation from before to now was nothing short of amazing. Rick and Alexis were so good for her. She was smiling and happy. Something she did so rarely before.
Rick had taken Roy to his car after work and followed him home and then waited outside for almost half an hour before driving home.
"How is he?" Kate asks when he gets back.
"He knows the score Kate. Not that it isn't going to be hard on him." Castle looks at his watch. "Evelyn and the girls should be arriving at the house in about 6 hours. It would be fun to see the look on her face." Castle is grinning.
"I can't believe she gets to see it before I do." Kate is only a little bummed.
Castle takes her in his arms. "You'll get there. And you'll get to see what Christmas is like that you've been missing all this time. It's going to be magical Kate, simply magical." Castle tells her and then kisses her.
"Oh all the other stuff is going to arrive tomorrow I was told." Castle tells her excited.
"Really! I thought it was several days from now?" Kate is shocked but also happy.
"She got lucky and found everything. Six guns safes, pool table, foosball table, air hockey table, corn toss, and the weight equipment for the exercise room. Plus she thinks the carpenter should finish my office tomorrow." Castle is grinning.
"Six gun safes?" Kate doesn't understand.
"Two big guns safes and four of the little ones like what you want at the front door. The second big one is for you. Which reminds me you got something in the mail today." Castle is excited and retrieves the letter.
Kate looks at him puzzled. Partly about the letter and partly about the second gun safe. So she opens her letter and starts reading.
The more she reads the more her mouth falls open. And the more her mouth falls, the bigger Castle's grin gets.
"CASTLE!?" Kate is floored. "This says I have an appointment for weapons training at Quantico!"

I actually selected that weapon and went back to train with just it. I think you know who set it up for you." Castle warns her in case she was thinking of not going.
"I don't have a choice do I?" Kate almost sounds sad.
"Not to worry Kate. Alexis and I are going with you. I need to re certify so I'll be doing what you will be doing right next to you. And if we are going to be working together it would help to know what each of us is capable of." Castle offers.
"I don't have to leave Alexis behind again?" Kate was worried about that. And watches Castle shake his head.
"It would be good to see what you can do Castle." Kate tells him smirking.
"Ooohh, do I detect a bit of a challenge there?" Castle asks.
"Damn right you do. …. We buy the SUV I select using your money if I win?" Kate offers.
"And I get that panic room you don't want using your money?" Castle tells her.
"DEAL!", … "DEAL!"
"Where's Alexis?" Castle asks.
"You took your sweet time taking Captain Montgomery home so I had to put her to bed." Kate explains.
And Castle promptly swoops her up into his arms getting her to squeal. "What are you doing Castle?"
"I'm taking you to bed Kate. I have plans for you this time." Castle explains.
Kate woke in the morning and got Alexis up and into the shower while she went back to her bedroom to find Castle missing and got into her shower.
She found Alexis and Castle downstairs with breakfast waiting for her. "We need to make arrangements for our trip to Quantico, Castle." Kate comments.
"I'll do that while you are at work and I'll talk to mother about coming with us for Alexis sitting." Castle tells her.
"We need to talk about getting a dog while we are there too." Kate tells him.
"We're getting a dog?" Alexis was interested now.
"Yes sweetie we're getting a dog. But not until we get back from our trip." Kate tells her smiling. Hopefully it will have Sparky's dedication. "Do you know what kind of dog you want?"
"Can we get a Lizzy?" Alexis asks. Leaving Kate with a questioning look on her face.
"Lizzy was a collie we met in the park one day." Castle explains.
"A collie. I like collies. I think they are family dogs that love kids if I remember correctly." Kate is on board with a collie.
"I'll look up collie breeders while I'm looking up hotels for us. Oh, and the emergency generator is getting installed starting tomorrow." Castle tells her.
"Sounds like you've got a busy two days Castle. Delivery today and generator tomorrow." Kate notes.
"Yup, we are almost all moved in." Castle notes sighing a little.
"You're just a big softy Castle." Kate tells him as she rinses her dish and glass, then kisses him.
"You ready to go sweetie?" Kate asks her.
Getting a head nod. Kate takes her coffee mug from Castle and kisses him and heads out dropping Alexis off at school.
