Chapter 5

Sunday

It was Sunday and Mia had invited Evie over for a BBQ. Dom had been acting funny since he went to make things rite with her. Mia couldn't put her finger on it, but she was glad Evie and him were on good terms now. Evie walked in the kitchen through the back door and smiled at Mia who was cutting lettuce.

" Hey girl nice salad. " She said laughing knowing it was Mias specialty. Mia glared at her. " Don't you give me shit Evie not everyone can be Martha Stewart. " She said going back to cutting. Evie laughed. " Don't you mean M. Diddy? " She asked going to the sink to wash her hands. Mia laughed and set the knife down. She went into the fridge and got out a tomato, and a cucumber.

Dom came in and smiled at the two women. " Evie do you know how to season hamburgers? " he asked leaning on the counter next to Mia. She slapped him on the arm playfully before going back to her salad. " Yeah I can ever patty them up. " She said making a face at Mias back. Dom roared with laughter. Mia turned to look at her and she turned her head away as if she did nothing. Mia threw a chunk of cucumber at her at it hit her in the head. Evie caught it in her hand and ate it.

Evie went into the fridge and got out the pack of hamburger and then went to the cabinet getting out the seasoning salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Mia handed her a bowl and she opened the pack and dumped the hamburger in. Next she added equal amounts of each seasoning. She used her hands to work it in the hamburger. She was so engrossed in her task that she didn't notice Dom staring at her with a pleased look on his face. But Mia sure caught it and turned her head away from him to smile.

A little after six Evie decided it was time to head back to the motel. She promised Brian she wouldn't be late. She said bye to Mia and walked out the back door. She was walking past the garage and noticed Dom was in there working on his Charger. She stuck her head in and the familiar smell of oil and gasoline hit her. It smelled like home.

" You just gonna stand there? " Dom asked bringing her out of her thoughts. Evie walked in and ran her hand over the glossy black paint job. " I love american muscle. " She said softly. Doms eyes darkened at her words. He shut the hood and rested both hands on it and looked at her. " you wanna go for a ride? Costa Rica is even more beautiful at night. " He said hoping she wouldn't refuse.

Her eyes lit up, and then fell and he knew she was going to say no. And he wasn't going to let that happen. He walked slowly to her deliberate in his movements. The closer he got, the more he couldn't stop himself. Evie just stood there in anticipation, her stomach doing backflips. He was right in front of her. So close she could smell his cologne. She almost melted at the scent. Dom bent his head slightly as if he couldn't decide if he wanted to kiss her.

" Evelina Belle Kapula! " Came Brians voice from outside the garage and broke her and Doms moment. She looked up at Dom and saw the disappointment in his eyes. Sighing she said " I have to go. " And walked out of the garage to find Brian before he made his way to the house.

Evies POV

I walked out of the garage and caught up with Brian. " Did you really have to middle name me like that? " I asked grabbing his hand and pulling him back in the direction to the driveway. " Why are you in such a rush Evie? It's not like you came back to the motel like you said you would. " he said pulling his hand free and walking back towards the house. Evie just caught up to him and started pulling him again. " I know what you're doing Brian Dom told you to stay away from Mia and I don't need you starting some shit when I just mended fences with them. She knows you're my brother, but she doesn't know you're her and that's how it needs to stay. " I said but being Brian, he wasn't budging. " Evie are you out here? Brian!? " Came Mias voice from the top of the driveway.

Shit! Why did she have to come out here? Brian turned to Mia and smiled. Mia on the other hand glared at him marching up and punching him in the jaw. He fell to the ground holding his face. " Nice arm Mia! " I said laughing at my brother on the ground. He shot daggers at me but I kept on laughing.

" She's a Torreto. " Came Doms voice from behind me. " Well Brian since you can't follow simple directions I wont feel bad about what happens next. Now " he said putting his hand out for me to take. " We have a ride to take don't we Evie? " He asked with a hint of lust in his eyes. I grinned knowing Brian would blow a gasket, but didn't care I grabbed his hand and let him lead me to his Charger.

Third person POV

They drove around for almost ten minutes before Evie realized they were getting higher. Instead of the water being level to them, it was far below them now. Dom parked almost to the edge of a cliff. They got out and Dom popped the trunk pulling out a blanket. They went to the edge of the cliff and he spread the blanket out so they could sit.

The sun was setting and Evie couldn't help but think that this was the most romantic thing that has ever happened to her. She pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin. Dom was quiet. He just couldn't understand what is was about her. He placed his palm on her lower back and she stiffened and turned her head to look at him. Dom knew it was a mistake, but he didn't care. He pulled her to him, her straddling him as he attacked her mouth.

Evie kissed back arching into him. The kiss was very passionate and quick. Dom pushed her back after a minute and stood up. She took a second to pull herself together, and looked up at him. He just held his hand out to help her up. " It's time to head back. " He said getting in the car.

The way back was silent and Evie wondered what she did to make his mood change. When they pulled up to the motel she was staying at Evie looked at him in disappointment, not that she thought he was going to take her back to the house and make sweet love to her or anything. She just wanted to close to him. Sighing she unbuckled her seat belt and turned to get out of the car.

Dom grabbed her arm and she looked back at him. His eyes were darkend with a hint of regret. " It's probably better if you didn't come back to the house. Brian was rite we shouldn't see each other. The kiss was a mistake. " He said and Evie could feel the hurt from his words cut yanked her arm free and got out of the Charger. Dom just watched her unlock the door to her room and disappear behind it.

Evie slid down the door and curled up on the floor with tears rolling down her cheeks. ' How could I have been so stupid? ' she asked herself after a few minutes. She got up and went to the bathroom. She turned the shower on as hot is it would go and stepped in to scrub five layers of shame off her body. Only one thing was on her mind: She would never let Dominic Torreto get that close to her ever again.
